I met a group of friends for happy hour at the bar in early December. We had drinks and a couple of appetizers (I tried the arancini and a couple of oysters). The wine list was decent in that there were some interesting options. The bar was decorated for the holidays, giving a festive atmosphere. The service was reasonably attentive. The owner/manager stopped by our table and shared lots of stories about his background, as well as details about the restaurant. We learned that the select has a special reservations line for locals. What a wonderful new addition to the Charleston dining scene. The restaurant is located in the downstairs of the Greystar building on Meeting St at Columbia. The decor is modern, yet casual and since the space is SO large, they have done some things to divide the space up so it doesn't feel as big. They call it New American cuisine, so it's like fine dining, but not stuffy at all. The menu is a bit heavy, so definitely go hungry! We shared the lobster wedge salad that has this bacon jam on it that really makes the dish "pop". My husband had the lamb burger with oozy goat cheese and he devoured it (and it was huge!). It's served with rustic thin cut fries drizzled with pomegranate syrup, that adds just a touch of sweetness. I had the short rib which basically just pulls apart when you put your fork to it, why they give you a sharp knife with it, I don't know! Our server, Stefano, was top notch, he clearly has worked in fine dining before. We also met Elizabeth, who was just a doll and loved to talk about which dishes we had and what she loved, and Jen the general manager who was doing her best to meet everyone in the restaurant that night. When we arrived at 615, there were very few tables sat, although the bar was full, but by the time we left, after 8, the place was almost completely full! The bar offers generous seating both at and around the bar. They currently have live music 2 nights a week, but are hoping to increase that to 5. We saw the performers setting up as we were leaving. They have a private hot line for locals, so if you are, ask for the number! I love that! What an amazing spot in downtown Charleston! We came here for our 8th wedding anniversary and were truly impressed with the ambiance, service, food and drinks. We started with a drink at the bar, all of the house cocktails looked delicious, I settled on the Envy which is a gin and melon mixture, super yummy. My wife needed a pick me up and had an expresso martini. Upon being seated we ordered half a dozen oysters from Virginia and the blue crap dip! The dip was out of this world, mounds of lump crab and a crispy top! So good! We both ordered the risotto mine with lobster and wifey with crispy skin trout. Our second round of drinks I had the house specialty rum cocktail and wife had the latte martini! Both were amazing. The restaurant gave us dessert on the house, I had the house made salted caramel gelato and she ordered the expresso crème brûlée. Overall fantastic experience, we met the owner who sat down and chatted with us for a minute and our server Jocelyn was fantastic! Transported. The word that describes what you will feel like when you enter the doors of The Select! Modeled after a 1920's Parisian brasserie that used to house literary greats and artists. Inside is an inviting place to share time with friends or family over delicious worldly cuisine. It is open with great table spacing to fuel conversations and cocktails. A beautiful art deco design with rich woods and globed chandeliers. Service is on point with waiters and waitresses zipping about filling everyone's orders. We start our journey with cocktails. I sample the Velvet Voodoo, which was a pleasant merging of a White Russian and a Red Velvet Cake, creamy, rich and tasty! My wife went with the Goldfinch, a spicy, fruity cocktail served in a glass shaped like a little bird, perfect for a selfie or an Instagram moment. We then had one of the most tasty and delicious dishes I have ever enjoyed. Shakshouka! A fabulous mixture of tomatoes, olive oil, peppers, and garlic topped with poached eggs and served with a side of grilled sourdough bread! Protip, ask for extra bread! The flavors will blow you away. You mix the eggs and tomato mixture together then scoop it up with the bread. It's my new favorite! My wife went with the Quiche Lorraine with applewood smoked bacon, spinach and gruyere cheese and served with side salad. It was textbook in execution and one of the best my wife has ever had! I chose the Chicken Chilaquiles which came with marinated chicken, salsa verde, queso fresco, creme fraiche, onion, avocado topped with sunny side up eggs served between corn tortillas. A very tasty brunch item but it definitely packed some serious heat. Not for the faint of heart! A giant plus is if you park in the 128 Columbus Street garage and take your ticket they will validate for two free hours of parking! That is great for a downtown restaurant! Overall excellent experience! The bar is beautiful and there was live music playing on the saturday night we went. The absolute best thing I ate that night was the lobster wedge salad. It was incredible and I am not even sure why. The truffle fries were also the perfect mix of crispy and floppy. I think the portions for the apps could have been a bit better. My main issue is that the lobster mac and cheese did not have enough lobster for the add on price of $17 or whatever it was. For that amount I should have had at least seen a claw or something, but I literally had to ask if they brought the right one cause there was a microscopic amount of lobster - so skip that, but the mac and cheese itself was good. Spiral noodles and a good blend of cheeses that actually had flavor. Dessert was also excellent. It's a large place but the waiter was kind and attentive and food didn't take too long to come out. The bar bites were just okay, but the sweet bartender went out of his way to take care of the ladies in our group. I'm gonna be honest -- I don't remember what I ordered as an entree (we dined about a month ago while on vacation) but overall I thought it was an enjoyable meal at a pretty cool spot. I *think* it was the miso sea bass (looking back on the menu) but maybe not -- whatever it was, I thought it was good that night, but clearly it wasn't memorable. I know I got the lobster arancini as an appetizer -- I thought they were tasty, but didn't think they had a particularly lobster taste to them, or an arancini texture... They reminded me a bit more of wet boudin balls than the denser rice balls I typically associate with arancini. It was really crowded, but not overly loud. What a wonderful dining experience from beginning to end! This was our first time here and I highly recommend it. The atmosphere is absolutely beautiful and the dining rooms are spacious. The bar area is lovely but we didn't sit there this time. The waitstaff are knowledgeable, kind, and efficient. I had the French onion soup as a starter and it was luscious! I appreciate the non-alcoholic options on the menu and I had a complex and tasty Watermelon Nogarita. Of course they have an amazing wine and cocktail list for those who imbibe. For my entree, I had the Miso Golden Tilefish with forbidden black rice, and pickled shiitake mushrooms, bok choy, and orange miso. Oh my goodness - it was the best fish dish I've had in decades! My husband enjoyed the braised short rib dish - so savory! For dessert we fought over the sticky toffee bread pudding. I should have ordered my own. I admire that they validate parking. Our server, Aidan, made it a great experience. His knowledge of the offerings made it easy to select our meals. He was very knowledgeable and professional. The establishment itself was very nicely decorated and very clean. As for the food, very delicious! We chose to order a couple of things and share. The blue crab dip was a hit! Very creamy, with chunks of crab meat in every bite. The french toast was heavenly. Had I not known it was bread I would have thought my husband had ordered a dessert, Lol. I had the french onion soup, which was loaded with onions and cheese, and not over salted. Finally, the chicken chilaquiles. These came home with us because we were way too full to eat them there. They are very flavorful and the chicken is very soft and tender. My husband ordered a virgin Bloody Mary that was well garnished with olives and some citrus slices. It's been difficult to find virgin Bloody Mary's a few times so we were happy they were able to do this. I had a pineapple mimosa that was well balanced between the alcohol and pineapple flavors. Will never go here again! Not only did my friends and I wait forever for our server to arrive to greet us, but the food took even longer and wasn't even hot a good lukewarm at best. Very overpriced for the lack of seasoning. The cocktails they offer are mediocre at best. Tried to get the manager with the brown curly hair to come to table to tell her about how the food was not hot and either she was too busy for us or staff didn't relay message but we just paid the pricey check and left. If you want to pay 15$ for a plate of mushrooms and sit in a restaurant decorated by your teenage daughter....well here you go. read more

Staff was lovely, seated us right away, and made sure we were knowledgeable about the food and history of the restaurant. The owner came and spoke to us several times, was very engaged in conversation and was very sincere. Between the 8 of us, we had the pork chop, salmon, smash burger, and filet mignon. Ho Ho Ho. We went last night (February 1) and the Christmas decorations are still up. I found it odd and asked the waitstaff who didn't know why either. The large venue is nice but generic. It doesn't embrace anything Charleston and could be in anywhere America. The food - "good enough" is mostly the theme here. The specialty cocktail menu was uninspired but good enough. Blue Crab Dip was under seasoned and I asked for salt to help. The presentation was no better than a chain restaurant a la TGI Fridays. Salads (Caesar and Burrata/Beet) were good enough. The mains, Beef Short Rib and NY Strip, were unacceptable. The under-seasoned strip had a chewiness that made it inedible. We took a few bites (after I waited 5 minutes for a steak knife) and called it a night. The best thing about the night were the French Fries, so if that's what you are looking for, go sit at the bar, wear a Santa hat, order straight liquor and a side of fries to make it all bearable. read more

Brenda and I had a wonderful dinner last night at The Select in Charleston. Located along with Beautiful South by Kwei Fei in the Greystar Building the first thing we noticed about the Select as we were seated by hostess Kyra was the well dressed customers all looking so elegant in the beautiful built out space..a cross between the space at Marble & Finn and Costa. We started with Gambas Al Ajillo and Saratoga with limes. Our server Cody was very helpful to recommend the Miso Golden Tilefish best we ever had. Bartender Taylor mixed amazing martinis and vespers as we enjoyed over the top 5 star service food and ambiance. We finished with Flan and Sticky Toffee pudding as well as a bottle of Aperture Chenin Blanc as Manager Jennifer came over to make sure everything was going well. I went a few months ago - before the burger went from classic to "smashed wagyu" but mostly have not returned because of the previous. This literally (and I've tried at least 25 local burgers) the best burger in town. I am not a fan of smash burgers (love the taste of grilled) and this was one of the only places that served a grilled burger. Until they didn't. Also enjoyed the lobster roll. If they bring back the classic burger I will gladly return, but until then I have lost what made me excited to visit. read more

I've eaten there twice. The first time the food and service were excellent and that's what brought me back for the second time. Second time was a different story. I had a problem with my salad and five of the six entrée served were lukewarm to cold. In fairness, I mentioned it to the manager, and she offered to remove the salad from the bill. The Select is a great upscale type of place that has a nice set up. You have one side to sit and enjoy a meal via reservation and another side which you can either sit at the bar or at side tables to enjoy live music. The servers were attentive and were excellent at their job. I really enjoyed the ambiance, decor, music and atmosphere. The drinks were pretty good but the food wasnt the best, it was ok. It did take a while for me to get my truffle fries, but they did put a rush on it once I mentioned it, which leaves me to rate 4 stars. read more

I've visited the atlanta location and was excited to visit this one. We waited near the bar as our table was being prepared and the bartender was so hospitable. I ordered the ginger margarita and it was just sweet enough. The decor was beautiful and the restaurant is so much larger than expected. We had a large party and they did a great job managing the orders. I had a snag waiting about 20-25 for bread but besides that, the dishes came out quickly. We noticed a band up front as well. Will be revisiting to check out brunch or happy hour. read more

Do not go here if you want an intimate dinner with friends. The noise level is unbelievable. We ordered bread for the table, $8. Over toasted. Ordered shrimp and lobster linguini, it was just ok.
