We were able to be seated immediately at the counter, though there was a little bit of a wait if we wanted a booth, which was fine because we are counter people. Immediately, after sitting down, we were asked what we wanted to drink and hot coffee was brought right over. Not too long after that, the server took our order with a smile and we waited not long at all for it to have been as packed out as it was to receive our food. We ordered two Spooner Breakfasts, one with scrambled eggs with cheese, pork sausage, homestyle potatoes, and a biscuit and the other was two eggs over easy with bacon, cornbread, and grits. When I tell you every single thing was absolutely incredible I'm not lying. Those homestyle potatoes were easily the best I've ever had, and I'm a potato girlie. Unfortunately we don't live too close, but if we did this would easily be our breakfast spot.

I love to come here and eat before I get my day started in Los Angeles and this time I went before hitting up LAX. It was a bit frustrating that they wouldn't seat us before our guest arrived especially since we had somewhere to be by a certain time. We decided to just forget about our guest and get seated since we were starving in a small, four person seated area but once our fourth showed up it was so uncomfortable and tight! I have been trying to be good so I didn't want to get anything super sweet, deciding to go with just eggs, potatoes, turkey bacon and toast. I love that they give you four pieces of bacon and I especially love that they have non pork options! The bacon was cooked crispy just the way I like it but the potatoes were not good to me at all. I'm not sure if they douse them with ketchup or not but they had a red tint to them. I will continue to come here to get some great non-pork breakfast. The service is always super friendly and nice. I love a good family oriented and operated place!

I got "The Big Spoon" and the name is absolutely appropriate. I didn't finish it all. Standouts? Those chicken wings! The waffle was also very good. They're a think waffle, as a heads up! Atmosphere-3/5 It's a laid by diner. Old school R&B music was on, the tv was playing and it was nice vibe. Totally compliments the comfort food that you're eating. Service- 5/5 Service was fast, very courteous and personable. I had to spend a certain amount to use a coupon I had and the sever was very supportive and accommodating. Value- 5/5 Totally worth it. No comments on the value. I'll be back! Opportunities for Learning- 3/5 This is a typical "southern," soul food restaurant. Not much to learn, but much to enjoy! As a note. They are James Beard award winners, so that was really cool to lean.

Popped in today for fairly traditional breakfast. Went with an extra sausage link which I didn't touches I overestimated my hunger. Smh The grits, sausage link, and eggs were made to order- another great experience. I didn't get the name of the main server, as there were more than one who actually helped out. Today was more of a team like effort-which was fine. The last thing of note is the timing when you descend on this business. If you're going to come after the morning rush, you're absolutely going to be good to go whether you are solo as I was or in a larger party. Count on a wait time of about 5 to 10 minutes max. On the other hand, if you're doing a real morning breakfast in a true morning time slot, be prepared to wait a while, and make that reservation via Yelp as soon as you arrive. And during the morning rush, even coming by yourself won't necessarily mean you're going to be able to bypass any lines and go straight to the bar-as I found that out on a recent visit. All in all another great experience.

Been some time since dinning here and it has always been a valuable experience. Food fresh and cooked with care and attention. Service professional, personable, like you're at your cousins. The crowd is always on ten. Ordered the Spooner Breakfast. Had a taste for Turkey Sausage Patties Eggs (w/cheese and Green Onions) Grits Sourdough Toast and Coffee. My meal hit the table not too long after, cooked to perfection with all fresh ingredients. All I had to do at that point was tap a little Seasoning Salt and Pepper on the Grits (with a dab of Butter) and chow down. Had to hit the Buttered Sourdough Toast with some Grape Jelly and there was just no looking back after that. Everything paired well together. I literally had a fork with Turkey Sausage Scrambled Eggs and Grits on almost every bite. Nostalgic. Like my Mothers kitchen growing up. The Hosts Servers and Staff were all great adding to a great experience. They owe me nothing for today's meal and experience. Got everything I came for. Gratitude and give thanks to The Serving Spoon for a very pleasurable Breakfast experience that I look forward to repeating.

Pros: -Super friendly staff who are quick to serve you despite the long lines and wait times -The CORN BREAD. This was a favorite in our group because unlike many locations in So Cal, this one was NOT overtly sweet. Instead the corn bread was salty. The texture was perfectly crumbling in the inside yet firm with a crisp slightly burnt crust on the outside. Add some honey and butter and this was DELICIOUS. -The cinnamon butter. The waffles came with a delicious cinnamon butter that added a great flavor to the waffles. -The Chicken Wings. They were perfectly cooked making them piping hot when they arrived and were simple but delicious. Cons: -Dry Food. The fried chicken breast, red snapper, and waffles all tasted over cooked. The chicken breast was butterflied so it was very thin, not like a traditional bone in breast. I think this led to a drier chicken. Similarly, the red snapper tasted dry around the edges of the fish where it was thinner. Lastly, the waffles were a mix. The cinnamon butter added a great flavor yet the texture of the waffles were dry meaning I added more syrup and butter to soften them up. By comparison, the French toast were super soft and fluffy but lacked the cinnamon flavor. Final thought: -Overall, I would defiantly recommend this place for the great hospitality and great options. Not everything is a hit but if you stick to wings, corn bread, and French toast with cinnamon butter, you would be have a lights out dinning experience!!!

Pretty consistent neighborhood restaurant. The turkey chops were good but cooked a little too hard for me. Grits were nice and thick. Waffle tastes like it was made with wheat flour and was a bit rubbery. Eggs were prepared well. Coffee is a little mild but hot. Food was hot. Service was fast. We were charged for one meal x2 but thankfully caught it before paying.

I haven't been here in a couple of years. I decided to stop in this morning. The food is just outstanding- if you're looking for a good southern breakfast. This is the place to definitely visit for those of you that are visiting out of the country for FIFA . I'm telling you this is the place to come and have a wonderful delicious down home southern breakfast. I had scrambled eggs, egg whites with spinach and a little cheese the wings - fried wings. They were excellent not too greasy. The home fries potatoes were cooked to perfection. They were better than mine and I know mine are good. Pancakes were nice and hot. The Service was outstanding. I highly would recommend this place. For those of you who live in Los Angeles or in the neighbouring area please stop in. This is a wonderful place. I will tell you it's crowded. It is a little crowded but it's worth the wait! Bon appétit!

So I had the fried turkey chops, grits and scrambled eggs with cornbread. The turkey chops were absolutely delicious and seasoned just right. The grits were awesome (butter and pepper; no sugar!). The scrambled eggs were cooked to perfection, soft but done just right. The orange juice was real, just a tad sweet. My wife had a polish sausage sandwich and my daughter had a breakfast bowl. The aromas at our table were amazing! I'm getting hungry all over again as I pen my memories there! The restaurant is cozy, service is superb and very friendly. The prices hit just above $$. The Serving Spoon is billed as an urban eatery and that is the vide fo sho! Parking is limited because it's shared, but some spaces are generous in size. There are a couple of handicap stalls. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there with my wife and our daughter. Our hostess has been there over 20 years, she must've started working at the age of 5 because she seems to be in her 20s! She is fantastically fun. We all agreed that The Serving Spoon is worthy to be elevated to our favorite breakfast spot.

I finally tried this spot...on Easter. But still waited about twenty minutes. It's a no for me. There were several red flags for me. But the number one problem was spending 55 dollars( before tip) for breakfast for two and it being below average. My daughter got a waffle and bacon. I've never seen her leave bacon on the plate. She is a bacon fiend. She left bacon on the plate. They give you big vats of fake syrup warmed in a plastic bottle. I thought we had moved on from diabetes high fructose poison syrup. It's a disservice to the Black community to still offer this. Know better do better. They could save lives by using real maple syrup. I'd rather pay more for syrup with nutrients. Now the real kicker.... I ordered two sides, catfish nuggets and grits. The catfish nuggets were 15.95. I ate a few. Took most of them to go. On the way home, I snack on the catfish. I get to the last nugget..bite in....its chicken. Firstly...I do not eat chicken. Secondly....how the hell? The whole experience made me sad. My pockets and my belly.

My breakfast today was so good! I'm glad to give The Serving Spoon an updated review. There are so many people who love this place, I figured the first time, I must have gotten the wrong thing. Ordered takeout. I had the Little Spoon and opted for French toast (4 pieces), friend chicken (6 party wings), and eggs scrambled medium with cheddar cheese. I like how customizable their plates are. Eggs were cooked perfectly. French toast was fluffy, flavorful, and not dry. And that fried chicken was crispy, the batter on it had a nice crunch. I would have liked a bit more salt for my own liking, maybe hot sauce, but it's still good fried chicken.

The only reason I don't give this place 5 stars is because of the wait. What they said would be a 40 minute wait, ended up being about an hour and 10 minutes. The place isn't that big so expect to wait a while if you go on the weekend. TSS reminds me of a roscoes chicken and waffles with more of a diner feel to it. The staff was friendly and once we were seated, we were taken care of right away. The food was amazing. I got "the Rambo" (scrambled eggs, sausage patties, potatoes, and a waffle) I'd definitely go again. read more

Tasty food, and many choices, even for a vegetarian. All veggie sides, even the greens are well-seasoned and meatless (although the biscuits do have bacon fat in them). Yummy omelettes, and the grits are fluffy & buttery. The pancakes and waffles usually have the right combination of al dente chew and aerated sponginess. My non-vegetarian family complimented their succulent chicken wings and salmon patties. The staff are pleasant, knowledgable and friendly. They're also super clean - I haven't seen this level of meticulous care and service for decades. Come in hungry and you'll always leave happy. read more

This is the kind of food that makes you want to hop on the first flight smoking, just to have a bite. Came here on a Saturday morning, all excited from the reviews! The line was long and full of natives, which let me know that this place was probably going to be the answer to my southern prayers on the west coast. This place is more like a hidden gem, not as popular as Roscoe's. The building itself is small and resembles a whole in the wall, which makes the place even more charming. The wait was about 30 minutes, which I had no problem with waiting. The hostest was kind and made the place feel even more home like. We were seated and I already had my game plan in mind on what I would be ordering. Pancakes, Fried catfish & Eggs (this girl can eat) Our server was kind and made us feel like she was aunt Shirley from back home ( I don't actually have an aunt Shirley but it fits). The food took approx. 15 minutes to come. At this point I was afraid that maybe the it was all hype and that I would be disappointed.... But that first bite.....FIRST BITE.. was magnificent!!! I was in catfish heaven. Seasoned to perfection, nice and crispy, and a huge portion. What more could this southern girl ask for!! The pancake was nice and fluffy, and the eggs were nothing special but not bad either. I left this place full, happy and with the itis. I suggest you do yourself a favor and come here. read more

What a fun and lively atmosphere! Came on a weekday for breakfast after dropping off some friends at the airport and the restaurant was nearly filled! They had Michael Jackson playing loudly in the background as we ordered our food (so many good options!)-- we decided to go with "the cookie" (chicken wings and a waffle) and the huge Hugo (pancakes, eggs, grits, and sausage). Everything was on point-- perfectly crispy yet juicy chicken wings, deliciously cinnamon-buttered waffles, and a bottle of HOT maple syrup for the pancakes. The sausages had a nice little kick but were a bit too salty in my opinion. Everything else was great! Tried to use the yelp check-in offer for 10% off, but they told me the discount is only supposed to be if you have a boarding pass showing you just came from the airport. (They gave it to me anyway :))! I'll definitely be back if I'm in the area for brunch! read more

I loved this spot! The staff went out of their way to be friendly and welcoming. I even met the owner and her dad, who started the place. I had the pork chop breakfast, but chose one pork chop and one turkey chop. Both were fried to a crispy perfection, while maintaining a moist and tender center. The eggs tasted fresh and the surprise joy was the grilled cornbread served with honey. I have never had this treat and it was delicious! My server and the busser were both attentive and informative. The folks sitting around me were all jovial and talking to strangers. (when does this happen in LA?) All in all a fantastic experience and the serving/price ratio was generous. read more

Food was awesome. I had the chicken and pancakes with a side of grits and a biscuit. I left with leftovers. Prices are amazing they have names for the different orders. Our waitress was super pleasant and fast. Food came hot and super fast. I would've given them 5 stars but the table was dirty when we were sat and the hostess was not the most pleasant of people. read more

"Me and nephew Snoop were sitting at the serving spoon..." The gf got in on the groupon deal so she came along last week to give it a try. This was her first time here and my first time sitting at a booth instead of the counter. We were quickly welcomed by the cashier at the entrace; she complimented the gf on her outfit. We sat at a booth and were quickly welcomed again by the busboy, he took our drink orders. The waitress came by and took out order. My usual is the Huge Hugo (scrambled cheese eggs, rice, spicy chicken link) with sourdough toast. Everyting went smooth this time around, the manager even came by to check up on us; it was quite funny once we were done with our food she came by because we were just sitiing there shooting the breeze and she thought we hadn't received our food yet so she looked very concerned! Once we told her we were done she seemed relieved. That was nice seeing her concern for our appetites:). read more

This place is good stuff. Deep fried delicious gold. Had the catfish 'n waffles--an adventurous departure from the standard chicken 'n waffles notorious around these parts. Wrong place to be skipping on the chicken, fellas! They don't skimp out on portions unlike silly Roscoe's. You get a waffle and quite a few chicken wings (7+?) or in my case two large fish fillets. Their fry batter is crunchy crunchy yummy! And free champagne on Sundays was a nice surprise. Didn't look like it was advertised anywhere, but it definitely took off the edge of what could of been a horrible horrible hangover. To The Serving Spoon staff: Thanks for introducing me to grits. After having a very good soul food breakfast in Seattle at King Fish, I was hankering for a good soulful breakfast. We waited I want to say about an hour for a table. It hit the spot for me because I got everything I came there for biscuits, chicken and grits. My girlfriend was not impressed. She didn't feel like it was worth the wait at all. The service is really good, everyone there is super friendly. But, I must admit it was very ok. We ordered the Cookie's Wings and Waffles and a bunch of sides, the spicy sausage, grits with cheese, a biscuit, eggs, bacon. One of my friends had the turkey sausage which was much better than the beef sausage. I'm still on the hunt so if anyone can tell me where to go for a good soul food breakfast please NOT roscoes. read more

This place makes you not have a care in the world and allows you to focus on the food and good conversation. Staff makes you feel like a friend. I hadn't came here in a while but decided to take my boyfriend who's never been. He came to this place and ended up saying he's glad to be black, lol. It made him say that no matter where a black person is from or raised there's a certain persona about blacks that make us stand out from any other race and the feeling of togetherness and happiness is apparent in the black culture and evident at The Serving Spoon. The food was pretty good, definitely order a waffle with cinnamon. My chicken had dried blood on the inside and was overly moist for some reason. It was freezing cold where they sat us and many patrons complained and wanted to be seated somewhere else. But all in all The Serving Spoon doesn't disappoint. read more

Great food & service but the guy who brings out the drinks was a little shady.. When we asked for a little butter he said I'll tell your server so we had to wait with our food getting cold before our server came to bring something so simple..Today was a test run before bringing my mom.. I hope his attitude changes by the time I bring my mom cause I will definitely speak up then if the attitude continues. #theservingspoon read more

Delicious breakfast! Hubby ordered the Huge Hugo and I ordered the Cookie with a side of scrambled eggs. I must admit these wings are the best I have tried. So my 4 star review is based on two visits here. Both fantastic, but the first time here, I found a hair! Understandably, it took a while for me to give them a second chance, but when I did, whoa! They food here was great! I had deep fried turkey bacon! Which tastes better than it sounds. I had a waffle, eggs, and I forget what else, but it was all delicious. The place seemed like they tidied up more from my first visit, so I will return when I get hungry and am in Inglewood. As long as they keep their hair out, I will keep coming! read more

Yummy in my tummy. Everytime I have a craving for Southern style breakfast I come here. I always order SILAS' combo. What is that you ask? Well, (smacks lips) party wings/drumettes nicely battered. Its crunchy which I love! 1 waffle, eggs and the syrup, it comes warm. Wonderful right? I know, I said the same thing. Anyway the service is always good and staff is friendly. Big Portions and Good Soul Food at a reasonable price. I love brunch and the serving spoon is a great place to be... well served. The fried chicken is crispy on the outside, wonderfully spiced, and tender on the inside. My waffle, ham, and eggs were delightful. They give you hearty portions so you may have to take some of it home, which is great because then you get to eat your meal twice. As I was leaving, another customer who was either octavia spencer or closely resembled her, complemented me on how stuffed and satisfied i looked as i rubbed my recently full stomach. If you are coming during peak hours, it will be difficult to seat large parties as most tables are for 4 people, with only 1 that can seat more. Also, they recently started having late night hours (10 pm- 5 am) on Fri & Sat if you get those cravings after your galavanting around town. read more

Wow... the food was amazing. Good friendly service and I will be back here anytime I am in the area. We came in early for some breakfast, starving from our 5 am flight from Tucson. Based on Yelp, this was a must eat breakfast spot. Only way I can describe this establishment is down home and soul-food. Something my wife would make me an she is the best cook I know. 5 star food and service. read more

I tried thinking of a reason to dock a star, but I couldn't. Maybe because it's far from UCLA, but that's no fault of their own. The gf and I came back a little over a year ago while we were in LA to watch a UFC fight. Naturally, after we got in I yelped and serving spoon was close and highly ranked on yelp to the airport. Very friendly staff, this time the gf and I made a trip deliberately to go back here. When we arrived a very nice man greeted us hello sitting on a bench outside the restaurant, and he very kindly said goodbye as we left. Perhaps he is the husband of the woman whom I presume is the owner at the cashier? Anyways, we came and were seated immediately at the counter. Staff was very nice, food came quick and was delicious. I ordered the first thing on the menu, forget what it's called but I got the bacon. Two eggs, potatoes, bacon, and cornbread. Delicious! The cornbread and english muffin are to die for. So simple yet so good. You'd be surprised how often people mess up such simple things. Oh and while mentioning simple things, their eggs were perfectly done! It amazes me how some places mess up a simple thing as eggs, but this place has it on the dot. Asked for over hard, perfect. The potatoes are in a league of their own. I don't know what they put in them, but they were amazing. They have green peppers in them, that's all I know. They also pre-butter their english muffins haha. Bacon was thick and delicious, not too greasy. A bit cold, must have been pre cooked and set under a warmer but still good nevertheless. I would definitely recommend this place if you're coming into LAX. Oh and they make their mimosas well, we were watching them make them. Just a bit of orange juice and majority champagne. Amazing to see coming from Utah. My gf's omelette looked divine and I almost wish I had ordered one. If you're in the area give this place a try! read more

The other day I woke up extra early so I can have enough time to drive to this place and got this sudden urge to have some soul food brekky. I ordered the chicken drummets... Grits and scrambled egg.... Chicken wings was amazing and tasty... I can say it is a little better than roscoes. :-) The egg was ok... Maybe next time I will try the easy over instead. Grits was extremely buttery... A little too buttery for my taste.. But I guess I didn't have the knowledge that it was going to be like that until after I had eaten and read the reviews on here. Some people like it. I'm an occasional meat eater so the grease on the chicken was already enough for me. Staff was pretty ok. Not as friendly but that's okay because I got there at 7am lol... I'll come back again for sure and try more of their famous food. read more

I visited "The Spoon" the day after Thanksgiving. I wanted that same at home feel so I came here for breakfast. Between me and my guy we had grits, potatoes, English muffin, salmon croquettes, omelette & cinnamon waffle. The Salmon Croquette wasn't all that so I wouldn't recommend it but everything else was tasty. Now if your trying to be on the healthy side they have choices there for you also. The staff is very nice. The parking sucks. (but you will find one) & word on the street is now on Friday and Saturday they reopen from 10pm to 5am. So if your in the area no need to stop at a fast food joint when you can come here for a good meal. (Oh and they no longer take phone orders but you can still order take out once you arrive) read more

I found this place On Yelp, and I was so glad my husband and I decided to try it. It is very relaxed, the wait staff are professional, and more importantly, the food is great. My husband loves the salmon croquettes. When I tasted them, I was instantly transported back to 1977 when I first ate my mom's salmon croquettes. Although she has long passed away, when I order them, they remind me of her. I've tried several breakfast items, they are very good. You will not be disappointed. read more

The pictures of the waffles is what sold me. It's located in a plaza so the parking wasn't hard to come by even on a holiday. We were so happy that this place was open we arrived around 11:30am. There was a waiting list but we didn't mind the wait at all considering the fact that it was New Years Eve. Once seated you notice it has a comfortable homey type of vibe to it. I ordered "The Richard" which came with eggs, your choice of meat and a waffle. The food was really good if you want quality food you need to come here. The ham was a thick large cut instead of deli meat slices like most places serve. The eggs were nice and fluffy they're not shy with their portions. The waffle was amazing it came with powdered cinnamon on top and a little scoop of butter. Then they give you syrup but not in a small cup on the side like most places. But in a large bottle and it's warm to the touch! Overall I can't wait to come back here and try others items off their menu. The waffle with cinnamon is delicious! Their egg whites are really good too. My boyfriend ordered the t-bone steak and he said it's one of the best he's had. The service is excellent. I loved this place! The food was fantastic and the staff was equally amazing. I went here on the advice of Sabra R. I had the fried red snapper, scrambled eggs w/ cheese, grits and then I had to try a waffle (just plain greedy). Everything was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. It tasted like someone's Big Momma cooked it with all the love in her heart. I have to agree with Sabra R It IS without question the best breakfast spot I've been to. I loved it so much I went back before I got on my flight back to DC to get chicken and waffles. Did I mention they sprinkle cinnamon on the waffle? The cinnamon gives it a certain personality. When a place is recommended in Cali chances are its the bomb. This establishment was just marvelous! Got my soft bacon just right and the French toast was delicious! It was 1983, Harold E. Sparks, a handsome young man from Hamilton, Ohio leaves the security of a foreman position at Fisher Body, a division of General Motors, and moves to Inglewood, CA to fulfill his dream of opening a soul food restaurant. "The Serving Spoon" TM The idea of providing excellent food that is not only "Love At First Bite", but a place where customers feel like family, quickly caught on. "The Spoon," as often called by many, has served customers ranging from entertainers to politicians to the neighbor next door. All in the spirit of making you feel at home, with food that's good for the soul. Harold's two of three grandchildren now own and operate the family business, and are developing "Urban Eateries" in key markets throughout the United States.

What is there to say about The Rusty Pot Cafe? Actually, there is a lot to say and I am going to get into that right now. So strap on your safety belts because we're blasting off to good ol' Inglewood. Located in the heart of Downtown Inglewood, this place truly is a gem. I first came here back in 2018 when myself and a fellow activist known as the Angry Gay Pope came to Inglewood to do an infiltration of the Scientology Org located directly across the street. I could go on and on about that place. But this review isn't about Scientology. It's about The Rusty Pot Cafe. But before we could begin our work, we decided to go grab a bite to eat. This was how I first discovered The Rusty Pot Cafe. So fast forward to 2026, I found myself back in Los Angeles. I had traveled there with a friend of mine who had some legal matters to attend to at the LAX Courthouse. We won't get into that either. So instead of sitting around in court all morning, I decided to head on over to The Rusty Pot Cafe. I ended up walking all the way from the LAX Courthouse over to Downtown Inglewood. For those of you reading this who live in LA may be asking yourself, why didn't he just take the Metro? That's a good question. By the time I arrived at The Rusty Pot Cafe I had worked up quite an appetite. One of the first things I noticed upon arrival is that they still had the same style sign hanging over the entrance. It's like one of those banner type of signs with the businesses name and phone number on it. You know the kind you'd see hanging on the side of a flatbed truck during a parade. I love it. I like how they haven't changed the sign's style. To me a sign like this ads character to the place. Plus it brought back memories from my original visit here. Upon walking into The Rusty Pot Cafe I was immediately flooded with a boatload of memories. This place was exactly how I remembered it. White walls with black tables and pieces of art hanging on the walls. It's not over the type flashy. But not a Plain Jane kind of a place either. More of a humble kind of a feel. Just enough character to make you feel right at home. Or at least to me it did. Anyways, I walked over to one of the tall tables and sat down. It wasn't long before I was greeted by a friendly, and handsome, Latino waiter. He was friendly and had the smile of a Hollywood actor. But not a phony kind of way that you see at a lot of restaurants where the servers are constantly trying to upsell you. It was that of a waiter who really cares about the customers he is serving. He didn't hesitate to bring me some freshly brewed coffee. This really hit the spot as would the burger that would soon follow. Now I'm not going to be shy when I say that The Rusty Pot Cafe has the best burger in all of Los Angeles. I know that may seem like a bold statement. But it's true. I've eaten at a lot of burger joints in and around LA and I've stuffed some tasty burgers into my belly. But none of them have tasted near as good as The Rusty Pot Cafe's burger. It puts In-N-Out's burgers to shame. The angus beef is soooooooo delicious and they cook it just the way meat should be cooked for a burger. Not well done and not rare either. But just enough so that those wonderful flavors come out of the patty and into your mouth. My oh my did this hit the spot. So did the flavor able fries that were served with the burger. Seriously The Rusty Pot Cafe's house burger is AMAZING! I highly recommend it. This burger is better than sex. The service at The Rusty Cafe is also top notch. The waiters were very attentive and are always checking on the customers to see if any of us needed more coffee or water or another margarita. Hold it. They don't serve margaritas here. You got to go to Los Amigos for that. But I think you get the idea. I really dig this. One thing I hate is when you go somewhere to eat and the servers let your drink go empty. Then you got to flag someone down in order to get some more coffee or whatever you're drinking. That is such rubbish. But that is not a problem at The Rusty Pot Cafe. Their servers will make sure your cup gets refilled before it goes empty. These folks are right on top of it. So if you have gotten to this point, I am sure you will see that I really love The Rusty Pot Cafe. I live about 3 hours north of Los Angeles and I would make a trip down there just so I can go eat at The Rusty Pot Cafe. And that's real talk. So if you happen to be in the LA area and want to fill your belly with some delicious food, I highly recommend that you make the trek over to Downtown Inglewood and check out The Rusty Pot Cafe. The restaurant was clean and it was a great place for me and my friends to catch up. It's street parking with pay to park. Missing ingredients, sloppily throw together food, and lacking flavor across the board. At least the coffee was decent. I've tried this place several times, dining in and delivery, and it has disappointed each time. I could understand one bad experience, but 4 times is enough for me to say I gave them a fair shot, and it's just not good. With so many options locally, this place should be avoided. The kitchen staff is the problem. Breakfast isn't hard to get right, so either train them or turn over the staff and get people who at least care about the customer and have some passion and respect for what they make and send out the door. This was made by someone who doesn't give a sh!t about what goes out the kitchen door.

It feels like one of those places where you'd meet up with friends, relax, and chat for a while. Visually, it makes a great first impression. The food, however, was average. I ordered the Best Avocado Toast, and while it wasn't bad, it's hard to justify the price. At the end of the day, it's avocado on toast, and I've honestly had more flavorful versions elsewhere for less money. The smoked salmon toast was also underwhelming. The salmon surprisingly lacked much of that smoky flavor, and the bread felt thicker than the toppings themselves, making the balance a little off. The shrimp Tom Yum soup was probably my biggest disappointment. At $14, I expected something with bold, authentic flavors. Instead, it tasted fairly basic. It had the citrusy notes you'd expect, but it was sweeter than I prefer, likely because of the amount of cherry tomatoes used. The service is where things became frustrating. We waited around 20 minutes before our order was taken, then roughly another 30 minutes before food started coming out. What made it more frustrating was that everything arrived at completely different times. The matcha latte came first, then the Tom Yum soup, and it was another 20 minutes before the rest of the entrées arrived. We ended up waiting so everyone could eat together instead of one person eating while everyone else watched. Normally I don't mind waiting if a restaurant is busy, but based on many of the Yelp reviews, this doesn't seem like a one-time occurrence. A common theme is that there's only one server running the dining room. Our waitress was friendly and polite, but she was clearly overwhelmed, juggling six or more tables by herself. I don't blame her--I blame the staffing. At one point I even watched someone wait over 30 minutes for two specialty drinks because the server was busy with other tables. That really summed up the experience. If the food had completely blown me away, I could overlook the long wait. Unfortunately, the flavors were simply average, so the overall experience didn't justify the prices or the time spent waiting. Would I come back? Probably not. I'm glad I gave it a try because it's a nice-looking café, but with average food, premium prices, and consistently slow service, there just wasn't enough to make me want to return.

This was my third visit in the last month, and each experience has been excellent. On my first visit, I enjoyed a Hot Honey Lavender Latte with a pastry. My second visit was for an Iced Vanilla Latte, and today I stopped in planning to grab an Iced Honey Vanilla Latte to go. Instead, I decided to stay for lunch, and I'm so glad I did. The café is clean, inviting, and the staff is genuinely friendly. I was greeted by the owner/manager, who took the time to welcome me and check in throughout my meal to make sure everything was to my liking. That level of hospitality goes a long way. I'll admit, I was a little skeptical about ordering Mediterranean food from a neighborhood coffee shop, but that skepticism disappeared after the very first bite. I ordered the white meat chicken kabob plate with hummus, garlic sauce, rice, and pita, and it was absolutely delicious. The chicken was perfectly marinated, tender, and full of the authentic Mediterranean flavors I know and love. It was clear this wasn't an afterthought on the menu--it was prepared with care and quality ingredients. Before leaving, I couldn't resist taking home a few pieces of baklava for the family, and they were the perfect sweet ending to a fantastic meal. I'm happy to say I've found my new local spot whenever I'm craving a great coffee, breakfast, or a satisfying lunch or dinner plate. The Serving Spoon has the best "soul food" in greater L.A. Soul food is supposed to be cheap and hearty - it's supposed to contain no-frills ingredients, cost less than $15 per entrée, be served in a divey restaurant in a not-so-nice neighbourhood and be cooked by an old lady that looks like Moms Mabley. The Serving Spoon delivers on all of those (although I didn't see the cooks so I couldn't determine if they were Mableyish enough). This place seems to be a pillar of the Inglewood/Ladera Heights/Crenshaw/Baldwin Hills black community. It's always packed, and on a Sunday you can expect to wait up to an hour. The last time I stopped in for lunch on a weekday I had the oxtails (served as a special every Wednesday). They were fall-off-the bone tender, not too fatty, and nicely seasoned. On previous visits I've had the fried catfish (delicious), fried chicken (a bit disappointing...not as good as Roscoe's or Johnnie's Pastrami) and chitlins (also delicious). I ordered the collard greens and red beans and rice as my 2 sides and they were well prepared, although I would have preferred if the collards were drained before serving to get rid of the bitter broth. On previous visits I've had their black-eyed peas (outstanding) and their yams (sickeningly sweet). The oxtails + 2 sides cost $14.95, which is a fair price. Other entrees typically cost between $8.95 and $15.95, which is reasonable considering the large portions and high quality. The staff are all super-friendly and treat you like a house guest, but when the place is especially busy they can get a bit frazzled and service can suffer. The overall cleanliness of the restaurant is OK, but I would like it to be a bit cleaner (i.e. no spilt food on the floor, counters and tabletops wiped better). The restaurant is located in a strip mall with a decent size parking lot, but since the joint is often so crowded the lot is usually full. Five stars... and that's before the kids even finished redecorating the table with juice. Taking two little ones anywhere that has a line is basically an Olympic event, but somehow The Serving Spoon makes it part of the experience. We ended up chatting with the people around us, my kid pointed out a guy wearing the brightest yellow glasses I've ever seen (apparently he's a famous podcaster... if you know, you know), and it reminded me why this is one of the places that makes "The Wood" feel like home. The staff deserves a medal. Before our food even came out, they brought the kids a biscuit to keep the tiny hunger riots under control. They also gave us plastic placemats, which I originally thought was for the kids. After watching the juice spill, syrup spread, and crumbs multiply like they were on a mission... I realized those placemats were really to protect the restaurant from my children. The food was worth the wait, the service was patient, kind, and genuinely welcoming, and nobody made us feel bad for dining with two tiny tornadoes. Great food. Great people. May have been a little out of our minds to try score a seat at The Serving Spoon on Super Bowl weekend Saturday morning, days after Eater posts a feature article, noting it as one of the "must eats" when visiting LA. Expecting a decent wait, by the already building crowd, I put our name down for counter or table, whichever was available first, and after about 30 minutes or so, a couple of counter spots opened up. There was a great energy in the lot where locals and visitors waited, repping their respective jerseys, as well as inside the diner itself. Now the food - So many options and combinations, and peering at the dishes the other diners are enjoying, it's quite difficult to choose. I got the Jerry (3) pancakes w/chicken wing splits with eggs sunny side up. Super fluffy pancakes, plump flavorful (all about that skin) wings and the perfect runny on those eggs. Plentiful enough to take half home for a round 2. My friend got the chicken and waffles, which also looked delicious. The food came up pretty quickly considering how packed they were, service and check-up were great, and one of the best breakfast experiences in the city. Do you love comfort food? Do you love breakfast? Do you love delicious fried goodness?! This is the place for you. I got the yelp $10 for $20 deal and decided to finally use the deal yesterday! We ordered 1) the catfish (breakfast) + grits + eggs + cornbread (our choice) and 2) chicken & waffles. The catfish was fried DELICIOUSLY - perfect crispy batter on the outside with juicy and tender meat inside. It was my first time having grits so I have nothing to compare it to... but it was very smooth and buttery. I like that they add cinnamon to the chicken & waffles - yummm. My favorite thing about this spot is the service. Everyone was SO friendly and SO inviting. As we left, the owners (the older couple I think?) asked us how everything was and asked us what we ordered and hoped they would see us back again. Everybody was GENUINELY nice and gave you genuine smiles, it felt like everybody was happy to be there. And I love their cute little signs around the restaurant with happy and inspiring quotes. Many individuals here tend to stay at the tables long after they've finished their meal and paid, which has increased the wait time. Our server was extremely courteous and attentive. The menu is small and lacks a variety of selections. They are more simple and classic foods, such as pancakes and eggs. They have a parking space immediately in front, but it was full when we came, so we parked in the Baptist Church parking lot, which is permitted according to the signs. As previously stated, the Fried Chicken Breast was really wonderful. I seldom order chicken for breakfast, but after seeing so many positive reviews and so many other customers eating it, I decided to give it a try. The pancakes weren't my favorite; they tasted exactly like Denny's. Also, I wanted over-easy eggs, but they were incredibly runny, therefore I gave the kitchen a 4/5 for total experience. In the words of my Aunt, "It ain't healthy and it don' matter." Cookies Combo with chicken wings and waffle is like fried crack with cinnamon crack. I was addicted from the first bite. He got a Sparks Combo with fried catfish and the same sweet waffle. I added a side of grits dripping butter more than Trayvonne sweats. For the price, it is hard to imagine any better comfort food. I stopped here last month with a friend of mine who recently relocated to the Los Angeles area. We were looking for a breakfast spot near his house before the USC game. I checked Yelp and found this gem. This place is great. My buddy and I had to wait about 5 minutes for a table (it was jammed packed with people.) BEWARE OF THESE THIEVES. I used my credit card after eating this mediocre food, and someone shortly after tried to steal and charge over $1,000 dollars at NIKE on MY CREDIT CARD. I try to support black-owned businesses, but scam businesses like this are never to be trusted. BRING CASH if you plan to eat here or you may be unknowingly paying for SOME GHETTO THIEF to sport new NIKES and CLOTHING.
