Arghhh!! I remember leaving a review here shortly after I visited, and when my experience was still as clear as day as I typed in an really nice description! Not sure what happened.... But let's try again but in a way less detailed review. Not because I don't want to, just that I can't remember the small details considering I go eat at so many places. But from what I DO remember, I had an awesome experience and it's definitely somewhere I'd visit again when I'm in the area. The ambience is more like a bar than a restaurant. Especially a BBQ restaurant. But that's a great thing because they have a great selection of beers and their food is superb! They definitely know what they're doing, that's for sure!! Fast and extremely friendly service really tops it off, and that's why I feel they are deserving of that 5 star rating. One last thing. I know we're in East TN so there are TONS of good BBQ joints around, but I do feel that The Shack is a step above most. Highly recommended. read more

Definitely a hole in the wall for the out of towners. Waitress very nice and attentive. The food was okay, not as good as everyone says in the reviews on here. The pulled pork was greasy and had a spicy, pepper rub on it which I did not really care for. The coleslaw was covered in more pepper. The twice baked potato was, again, overly dosed in pepper. The baked beans were also over peppered. The green beans were the only thing not drowning in pepper. Spice and pepper is not really my style so I just wish they wouldn't over season it and they could just leave it for each individual to season to their liking. If you normally add extra pepper to your food, then you would like the food. Overall, a good small town environment. read more

What. A. Dive... All in the Tri-Cities. It is admittedly located in an odd corner of a strip mall, but that's part of what makes it so unique. The people working were just incredibly friendly at lunch. No wait time, almost instant service, and chill hospitality. For my first visit, I had me ten Daytona wings, fries and the fried cheese for an app. All was absolutely mouthwateringly delicious! My only concern was the wings were a bit small, but for the $6.99 point, it's not expensive by any means. The Daytona flavor was barbecue sauce mixed with buffalo sauce. We left our server a $12 tip on a $33 bill... And he gave people free beer. :) I would absolutely recommend going over to The Shack in Kingsport. Young or old, it is a dive! read more

The pulled pork is some of the best that I have ever eaten! Super tender and melt in your mouth. The BBQ sauce is sweet but not overly sweet. We ordered a pint of it to go too. The quesadillas come with a variety of items you can add to them, but again the pulled pork is awesome and they don't skimp on the amount they put in it. WOW!!! What a diamond in the rough! In town for Meet in the Mountains Mopar event on our way back to Pigeon Forge from Bristol, decided we needed to grab a bite to eat. Group decided on BBQ and this was the closest place from where we were currently rolling through. Crowded parking lot was a good sign that we were in for a treat! The menu has a great variety of superbly priced food which was a welcome change from the tourist attractions we had enjoyed during the week. But even if the food had been bad (don't worry, it was far from it), the service was THE BEST we have had in ages!!! Our group of six arrived hot, hungry and thirsty and this little place did not disappoint!! We ordered a variety of food...burgers, pork sandwiches, quesadillas...all DELICIOUS!!! The owner, AMAZING!! He joked and cut up with all of us all while continuing to provide superb service. Never asked for a drink refill. Never actually asked for anything because he anticipated our every need! We can't wait to return again next year and we will be sure to visit while we are in town!! read more

Just had the best smoked pork I've ever eaten. Throw in so OK baked beans and great creamy coke slaw and man, what a meal. I tried out the local brown stout and it was a perfect compliment to the meal. Did I mention this whole thing was 12 bucks? Wow, I've eaten a lot worse for a whole lot more money. My husband, 1 year old daughter and I were looking for something to eat on our travels that wasn't fast food and came across The Shack and OMG are we glad we did! We ordered the full rib rack platter with French Fries and green beans, pork sandwich platter with mustard greens and coleslaw and 10 mild wings. We thought we ordered to much food but everything was so delicious we ate it all. The ribs melted of the bone; the pork sandwich was moist and flavorful and the wings were crispy and saucy all at the same time. My daughter loved the thin crispy fries & green beans. The staff and patrons were so friendly. If our travels ever take us past The Shack again we will definitely stop. read more

Great local place. Easy on-off I-81 for travelers. Outdoor seating. Pulled smoked chicken and the Shack Dog were delicious.

I was in the area looking for some solid local BBQ, but the top 2 options on Yelp were closed on Monday's. Oh well, there is always option #3, which was The Shack. This tiny restaurant is at the end of a little run down strip mall. Looks are not always indicative of good restaurants, so I gave it a shot. It turned out to be pretty good. Some people reviewed the wings, but I was eating in the car so that wasn't an option. They have a rather limited menu, but I was happy going with the pulled pork sandwich. There was a good amount of juicy meat on a nice fluffy bun. The fries that it came with were pretty good dipped in their house bbq sauce. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back, but if you are in the area it is worth a shot. read more

Hubby and I love supporting local establishments when we travel, so a visit to The Shack was in order. I had a cheeseburger and fries; hubs had the pork BBQ plate with green beans and fries. The cheeseburger was made with Angus beef and was tasty on the brioche bun. The fries are shoe string (which I like) but they were a bit too salty. Hubby said his BBQ was good and he cleaned his plate (then ate some of my fries). He's so helpful. There was one fella apparently running the place but he had it under control. They are looking for a cook or two. Would eat here again. read more
