Ribeye steak with mashed potatoes and truffle fries

The Shambles may just have the best steak in Seattle. They are a neat and cozy establishment in the Wallingford area and both their appetizers and entrees make them well worth a visit.

    Happy Hour menu (8/1/25)

Under the previous ownership, I visited Jan 2018 with a co-worker and tried again Dec 2021, but that ended up as a no go because my dining companion forgot her Covid-19 vaccine card when she drove down from Mt. Vernon. The Shambles changed hands, reopened in 2022,, and continues being a popular neighborhood destination. The butcher/retail side is no more. The ongoing dining model reminds me of the former Bateau with HH, but also features select cuts of meat available during restaurant service. I ended up making a spontaneous detour, snagged the last parking slot, and was able to partake in the last fifteen minutes of happy hour (4-5pm, 8/1/25). Pleasant waitstaff that covered patrons seated at the wrap around counter seating along the bar, plus various seating configurations in the main dining area, and the covered outdoor seating. I splurged and ordered a bourbon based Manhattan ($8), well crafted and strong! I also received a large baby gem Caesar's salad ($11), well dressed, generous parmesan, and requisite croutons. The lemon wedge added that brightness. Easily this could feed 2-3 people. I learned later that one can request a half sized one. My main entree selected was the Steak Frites ($24) which comprised of a well executed, medium rare 7oz hangar steak topped with compound butter, served with shoestring fries and ketchup. The couple next to me had bevs, same salad, and steak frites. They also enjoyed steak tartare topped with an egg and served with crostini. It was nice to have a brief convo with the personable guy who sat to my left at the end of the bar counter. He had a cocktail, pint of beer, and same scaled down Caesar salad. I ended up ordering the S'mores Dip ($12) which was pistachio butter topped with torched marshmallow cream, drizzled with chocolate, and served with warm snickerdoodle cookies. Rich dessert! Primarily I ate this slowly because I wanted to see the 16oz medium rare ribeye (a la carte/market price) and crushed potatoes with aioli that guy had ordered. That looked glorious when it was brought to him. Steaks are seared in beef tallow and butter, finished with sea salt, and served sliced. I restrained myself from taking photos for Yelp/IG, lol. I'll have to return and experience it personally.

I had not been back since the owners switched over. The decor has been overall elevated. They also refocused on steaks and no longer have a charcuterie plate (bummer). There is a lot less beer on tap and the back patio looks really nice! The happy hour is still pricey but much more reasonable than the regular menu. Had a steak frites, steak was well cooked to order fries lacked a little flavor and cooled down really fast. But will definitely return for a treat occasion.

Without a doubt one of the best, if not the best steaks I've ever had. The whole experience was perfect, starting with an innovative adaptation of a Sazerac, a well executed Caesar salad, and then that steak. The menu is to the point, and the wine list is broad and accessible. Our service was attentive and helpful. We loved the casual atmosphere which is often lacking in old school establishments was refreshing. One of the best meals we've had, we loved it.

No frills, homey steak house in Seattle. The menu is simple and the focus is on the steak. I ordered the 17oz rib eye and 5oz wagyu for 2. I highly recommend the rib eye - crust was cooked to perfection, flavor was rich too. I honestly thought the rib eye was the better cut of meat. Other than the steaks, the sides were also delicious. The mushroom medley has a strong acidic taste which cuts well with the rich steak and the potatoes are crispy and salty. Only FYI, the truth serum cocktail is strong!!!

This bar may look unassuming from the outside, however they cooked & served me hands down the best steak I have ever had. Their menu is small, and very intentional. Every single bite of our meal was exquisite. Wish I got better photos, you'll just have to go and feel it out for yourself!

Steaks and sides were delicious. The Caesar salad was enough to share between 3 people.

The food was absolutely amazing. We ordered two steaks--the Ribeye and the Wagyu Bavette--and I'd highly recommend the Bavette. The Belgian Tripel and the Malbec/Merlot were fantastic pairings. We also had the tartare and the mushroom sides, which were both excellent. Overall, a great experience and I'd definitely come back.

First off, their address is 7777, already a great sign! This spot might just become one of my favorites. The seating is community-style, with a long table where parties sit next to each other. We shared the olives, ribeye, broccolini, mushroom medley, and bread pudding, and the server recommended a red wine to pair with our meal. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly, and the bread pudding had just the right amount of sweetness. Service was friendly and quick. It's a super cute spot for date night or a cozy dinner with friends and family!

I was sort of thrown off by the festival and communal seating. But I ended up sitting across from the meat board, so the universe healed. It was a meat fest, simple and easy. We nestled all in and did the carnivore thing. It's not fancy but it was a pretty good time.

We went there for my husband's birthday. Three of us, we ordered shareable salads, bread and sides for the meal. All perfect portions for us- we ordered Rib eye and coulette cut- cooked to perfection and very tasty. Had a bottle of Merlot and shared a dessert! Everything was excellent; the staff was friendly and down to earth - we will go back again- heard they offer great cocktails!

Shambles is a fantastic local option in the Roosevelt area. It has a casual ambiance that is comforting and familiar. The staff are inviting and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. The food was phenomenal!!! Parking was a little tough in the back parking lot but we figured it out. I will be returning again soon!

This is the board that has the daily steaks.

Ask the Community - The Shambles

Can your steaks be prepared dairy free?

Absolutely! We cook our steaks in beef tallow and we can easily hold the compound butter that we put on top before serving.

Is this place 21 and older only?

That is correct. We are 21+ only.

Their bar area is centralized w indoor + outdoor seating options circling that area (+ an entire downstairs basement area they use for events e.g. weekly comedy nights, karaoke/DJ seshes, etc). Oh and their bathrooms are comically huge haha But yeah their outdoor seating options are insane. Long tables, patio type couches, fireplace seating arrangement... just a whole array of options yall. Ton of TVs + games such as darts, corn hole, board games, etc. As for beverages. Also helllla options on draft which range from classic offerings like Guinness to more unique things like peanut butter stouts. I wanna say there were like 40+ different types of beer on draft Their food menu featured typical bar options. We went w their mozzy sticks + bone in wings. Tbh nothing special bout them, but they were solid! The best thing bout this place was prob the service. The workers all seemed happy and that reflected back on how they treated their customers yall. It's been a while since I was at Human People Beer and I am just getting around to writing a review…read morefor it now. There isn't any good reason for it other than back log of reviews and I like to mix up my outings a bit and so the order I post reviews isn't always strictly chronological. Steve's and my experience with Human People Beer has been great! We have had their beer a few different times and we were always very highly impressed and I rated the ones I have had very highly on Untappd. Human People Beer also has a cafe where they serve food. I haven't had a significantly large meal here but the snack I had was fantastic. I will cover the beers first before proceeding to the food as I am a total beer nerd. One beer we had and loved was Neighbors. This is a Kolsch style beer and a great one! I found it very refreshing a great one to drink! Things to detect and have fun with in the flavor profile are maltiness, citrus, a great crispness and a clean finish. The mouthfeel with this one is very nice. Easily a favorite! The next beer I had was the Magick. This was a Hazy Pale Ale. I liked this one too. Perhaps not one I would classify as a favorite but a good one all the same. In the flavor look for elements of grapefruit, hoppiness, citrus and other fruitiness. It's an easy drinking beer where you could easily have more than one. Another beer that became an instant favorite for me was the Heavy Connection. This beer is a Brown Ale. I do enjoy getting this beer typed from time to time and this one proved to be a great return in having this beer again! With this beer look for flavors of coffee, maltiness, hazelnut and a breadiness. This beer is on the richer side but it is so, so good! The other beer that we have had... also a favorite( I am easily going to have lots of favorites here) was the Piknik Pilsner. I do love pilsners and it's so, so great having a really well made one. And this one definitely excels at being a good one! In the flavor profile it is roasty, bitter and crisp. The beer is aromatic and smooth. Another good one! And now onto the food. As I said I only had one item off of the food menu and feel like it was more on the snacky end of things but it was so, so good which really pushes my star rating hard in five star territory. I had Tahini Toast. It's something you don't see often and I haven't had it often but on occasions that I did I really liked it! With Human People you and this particular toast you get tahini, peanut butter, wildflower honey along with fresh fruit. It was so good that I fell in love with it madly! I feel like Human People Beer puts out a strong quality product in their food and drink and I look forward to more dining and drinking excursions with them!

Super cute bar/cafe! Comfy cozy vibe inside. Service is super quick…read more I learned about this place from Ba & Me's Vietnamese food pop up. I've been following Lisa @bamepopup on Instagram for so long -- I was enticed by she way she makes everything from scratch and the food did not disappoint! I ordered the Banh Canh, Banh Uot, and Che Chuoi for dessert. The Banh Canh was the perfect balance of savory, spicy, and homey -- think spicy udon noodle soup with homemade noodles and a perfectly simmered broth. The Banh Uot was satisfying and refreshing -- imagine thin rice cakes with fresh herbs, cucumbers, and a savory meat filling. The Che Chuoi was the perfect dessert. Slightly sweet, salty, and savory with a coconut and nutty topping. Although the vibe is pretty fast casual, I loved watching Lisa check in and connect with other guests while we dined. It's super clear that this goes beyond food for her; it's a passion and a way to connect with other folks. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and I'll definitely be back. Whether you're new to Vietnamese cuisine or a familiar friend, I highly recommend visiting Lisa at Ba & Me for your next fix. It truly feels like home!

Solid food, basic pub environment…read more I'm oscillating between 3 and 4 stars, but I think for the value (at the risk of getting a smarmy response from the establishment's social media person, I will agree with other posts that despite the award-winning homemade food and staff being paid a living wage, it did feel a little pricey for what we got). My kids and I split a 13" pepperoni pizza. It was solid. Nothing special, but nothing wrong with it either. Crust was thin, but sturdy enough to pick each piece up and eat with our hands without all the ingredients sliding off. Even splitting it between 3 people, we had 2 leftover pieces to take home. I also ordered a small Caesar salad, and it was delicious. Perfect dressing-to-salad ratio, loved how it came with brioche breadcrumbs that were simply part of the salad (as opposed to so many other places that have croutons that are giant and too hard to stick with your fork so you're left eating the salad and picking up the croutons separately - often with your fingers). While this review landed on 3 stars, looking over the wide variety on the menu, I can absolutely see how others have given it 4-5 stars. There were lots of options on the menu that looked fantastic - from starters to beer bread sandwiches and pie folds. The menu also had a number of desserts that looked quite inventive, and dessert is my favorite meal of the day. I just didn't have the wisdom to choose any of those options on this visit. Definitely a place worth coming back to and seeing if those other things are as good as the menu makes them sound. In sum, it's a solid, family-friendly place. Maybe try something more creative than I did.
