From the looks of what our friend ordered, the crab cakes were plump and juicy with crab meat. The crab bisque was also delicious though a bit salty for my taste but that's usually the case. The bread. Make sure you leave room for that! The catch of the day was fresh but the flavor was alright. I ordered the duck breast and enjoyed every last drop! The views are amazing too! We were lucky to have fireworks the night we were here. The dress code also is flexible whether you want to be more dressed up you don't feel out of place. The service was also great. This is a restaurant we always make reservations for when we come to Ocean City and often eat at twice during the week. This is a beautiful restaurant overlooking the bay, perfect for a romantic dinner or celebration. We shared the Beet salad which was nicely brought to us on two plates and was quite fillings. The Smoked Cheddar Pierogis with sauerkraut and fried apples was delicious, not heavy or smoky. My husband had the Petit Filet mignon then a creme brulee for dessert which was small, thin, light, and wonderfully creamy. It came topped with strawberries. The indoor dining area is elegant, comfortable and romantic. You can watch the sunset but at the table by the windows, you may be a bit blinded by the sun until it sets and it got rather warm in the sun. It was worth it - watching the birds fly into the marsh and hop around. Previously, we have also sat outside on the small balcony at the high two person tables and high chairs. There is a better view of the bay from inside the restaurant since the restaurant and apartment building does not block the view on the sides. The food here was seriously to die for! We came with a group of 10 ladies for a bachelorette dinner. They had a "congratulations" sign on our table upon arrival which was a nice touch. Our table was near the window so we got a gorgeous view of the sunset although half the table did have the sun in their eyes for part of dinner. We started with a round of espresso martinis then calamari, and Caesar salad (two of each). Portion sizes were not huge but enough for us. The calamari was cooked well but probably my least favorite thing I ate here. The Caesar salad dressing was some of the best I've ever had. 8 of the 10 of us got the short rib dish and I don't think anyone had any complaints, it was VERY good. The Hobbit is an upscale American and seafood restaurant located in the Rivendell Condominium building on 81st Street. It's open Sunday through Thursday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and from 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM Friday and Saturday. My friends and I had a list of spots to try this year, and this one was at the top. We'd heard nothing but great things, so I'm happy to say it didn't disappoint. All the food was enjoyable and our server Vern made sure we were well taken care of. We kicked things off with the Cherry Bomb Calamari and the Scallops Tagliatelle. The calamari, topped with toasted coconut and served with Shanghai aioli, was good, but the tagliatelle was the standout. Perfectly seared dayboat scallops paired with housemade tagliatelle in a truffle butter sauce, with peas, pancetta, Parmesan, and a drizzle of jus gras. Rich, fresh, and beautifully balanced. Next, I tried the cream of crab soup, made with fresh Maryland jumbo lump crab meat. The flavor was rich and well-balanced, but I did encounter a few shell fragments. A truly great bowl of cream of crab should be smooth and shell-free. For our entrees, we ordered the smoked cheddar pierogies, the red wine braised short rib, and the filet mignon. While everything was delicious, the filet was by far the best. You can choose from three preparation styles, we had it blackened, and it was cooked and seasoned to absolute perfection. The view overlooking the bay was also a really nice plus. The menu: Sparse. Some items not did not look appealing to try. I chose the veal medallions. They were poorly dredged in flour, had a floury residue with each bite, and the complimenting sauce just didn't save the dish despite the shallots and Madiera wine. If you decide to go, I'd opt for a conventional steak. And FYI since my visit last month I don't think the menu has changed. The 14 mains options are simply not enough. Maybe we just all chose wrong with our selections? My other 2 in the party had crab cakes with a side of the green beans and a cream of crab soup app along with the scallops and taglietelle. Neither was impressed. The positives. They had a hopping bar, which apparently has other dishes for the bar patrons. Our server was quick to take our order and share drink/food specials. bread with butter was provided for the table as a starter and it was fresh and warm. It was incredibly disappointing. I don't recommend it. Three hundred bucks later, we had enjoyed two drinks and some all right bread. The service was rushed, the appetizers (we got cauliflower and cream of crab soup) were mediocre, and the entrees were basically inedible. I could go on about the incredible views with the floor to ceiling windows, the incredible service (top level trained waiters), but all that is nothing without the food, because oh my goodness the food is just delicious. The filet blackened with boursin sauce is one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life. And I've eaten a lot of great things. I dream about that filet. The perfect crust that's not too salty, and the silky texture of the boursin sauce with the butter-textured filet. Every bite melts in your mouth. The lamb is also on my best things I've eaten list. Truly worth the price and hype. Every side, every appetizer, every cocktail I've ever gotten there is just outstanding. No notes. I am no fool so I quickly consulted with my Yelp Elite peers in Ocean City and found The Hobbit! Boy, was this a terrific choice! The appetizer selection was unsurpassed in creativity and flavor. The service was first class all the way, we could not have asked for higher quality care by our service team. The view from the dining room was extraordinary and the sunset was spectacular. Parking was free and easy. There is an impressive selection of house-special cocktails and mine was delicious, (24 year-old Mccallen Scotch whiskey) The halibut special was extremely wonderful with late sweet corn and peppers! My chocolate desert was huge and fresh and delicious. My three old friends all raved about their meals! I don't think my experience lines up with others. I am surprised this place has such good reviews based on food taste alone. Atmosphere might be very nice as it has beautiful views however when it is sunny you get a bit baked and when I looked around half the people had sunglasses on indoors. Service from our water was solid... manager unimpressed. Food this is where our experience fell apart. Steak ordered medium... came out very rare. The steak somehow was not evenly cooked. Not exactly clear how that could happen as I cook a lot of steak. Not the end of the world the water took care of it. Now the bad part while I didn't have my steak I ate what was left on the plate. On the plate was a fly.... A bit of an appetite killer. Waiter kindly replated the steak when it was ready. Manager stopped by to apologize and offered a drink on him and a dessert. Candidly, I didn't finish my steak so hard to think I am going to eat a dessert. On top of that the steak was okay at best. Wife's meal no flies but the fish was okay. I had the same fish at one of the sodel's restaurants the night before and it was a couple notches tastier. Sodels is a different price point so clearly they stepped up. The upgraded potato side (au gratin or lyonnaise can't remember) was amazing. Best I have had. Cream of crab soup... I was dying to come here as I have read a lot about their cream of crab. The crab content was fine... not impressive. The issue with the soup it seemed like there was a spice in the soup that did not belong or someone had a heavy hand with it. The soup was okay. Wedge salad was also okay. Someone had a very heavy hand with the balsamic glaze. The balsamic over powered the wedge. Drinks solid but nothing amazing. No dessert. For me my meal was a lot of my favorites and outside of the side the food really did not taste all that good. My wife had a similar opinion. Normally I don't complain and even if my steak comes out over or underdone I eat it anyway. I have never asked for anything to be compd but if your customer in a high end restaurant doesn't eat their meal and there is a fly in it then maybe you should do something. read more

As a long-time frequenter of O.C., I've been coming to The Hobbit for years and have never been disappointed. My appetizer personal favorite is the Lollipop Lamb Chops--tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Close seconds are the Smoked Beef Carpaccio and the Elite Baked Oysters, both of which are consistently delicious. When it comes to entrées, I highly recommend the crab cakes and the filet mignon. As for drinks, I'm a huge dirty martini fan, and the "Polish Dirty Thoughts" cocktail (stuffed blue cheese olives) is to die for. The gluten-free options here are outstanding. All the dishes I've mentioned are gluten-free, including the crab cakes. The atmosphere is top-notch--elegant and upscale with gorgeous views of the bay. Everything here is what you would expect from a fine dining establishment. From the time you are greeted to the presentation last bite of dessert every moment is enjoyable. The staff is very professional and attentive, the food is scrumptious and perfectly portioned (except desserts which can be large), and the cocktails are well crafted and if you prefer wine they have a well laid out selection. There are great views of the Bay from anywhere in the restaurant but your window seating is optimal and if you are looking to capture one of those tables make reservations early. We spent a long weekend in Ocean City specifically to eat here and it was fantastic! The entrance is an adorable circular Hobbit door, and as you walk through, the white interior reflects the light coming in from the long glass wall facing the marshes. No matter where you sit in the restaurant, you get a great view through that glass wall. Our server was so friendly and kind, she came back to check on us frequently and helped recommend dishes to try. The manager also came by to check on our experience, which is such a simple but impactful gesture! The food was wonderful. We started with duck cigars, and they were so crispy, the meat was tender, and the sauces complimented it well. I had the maple glazed salmon as my entree and the filet was so huge, I couldn't finish it all. I loved the vegetables that came with it, too. My fiancée had the swordfish and dayboat scallop special and it was incredibly fresh and so flavorful. The scallops were meaty and complemented the swordfish flavor well. If you are in Ocean City, Maryland, you must stop here for a romantic or adult date night out. Beware they have a dress code, pants and sandals for all the guests. Gave me as much time ordering and helped with some suggestions. They have a robust wine list so if you love wine you are in heaven. I ordered a 10 oz glass of a Merlot and it got me through all three courses just fine. I ordered a gluten free potato/ sausage soup, the smoked cheddar pierogies and the crème brûlée. Everything was amazing and I couldn't have been more happy about the meal. The way the chef combines the flavors was truly mesmerizing. My pierogies had capers, sauerkraut, cheddar, bacon with sour cream. I never knew that I liked sauerkraut until it was served to me on that plate. It was definitely a night to remember and recommend to everyone. For both of us (1 app, 2 entree, 2 desserts and 2 drinks) we paid about $150. It was pricy but well worth the price tag. The Only Review You Need To Read This was our first visit to this restaurant. The front looked like the entrance to a hotel, but we were welcomed in by a friendly smiling host. The ambiance inside was elegant and perfect for date night, the view out the windows of the bay was spectacular, and the food? A solid "very good." The cream of crab soup was salty (not a problem for me) and there was a ton of crab meat mixed in. Unfortunately there was also several pieces of shell mixed in as well. The filet mignon was tender, flavorful and perfect. It paired nicely with the soy & shallot butter. Not a huge fan of hard green beans, but the mashed potatoes were good. The creme brûlée for dessert was not-so-perfect. The burnt sugar top shell was hardly burned and not crispy at all, and the slice of strawberry that came with it was very tart. Overall, I'm not sure I would go back again myself - not because it was disappointing (it wasn't - you couldn't go wrong with dining at this restaurant), but there just weren't enough options of items on the menu that riff raff like me would find appealing. This was our first time here. A number of our local friends highly recommended this restaurant. We were both here for our 6:30 pm dinner reservation to enjoy the sunset. The Hobbit is located on the ground floor of a residential building located on the bay. There was lots of self parking available when we arrived. A staff member opened the door when we entered. I requested the host for window seating. We were seated on a nice window table overlooking the bay and the sunset. My only complaint was that our table was adjacent to a large round concrete support column, which limited our view of some of the other nearby tables in the restaurant. I started with their "LUKE'S LUXARDO" manhattan with Rittenhouse rye whiskey, Dolin rouge vermouth, luxardo cherry and blood orange bitters. served up for $15. My second cocktail was the "SMAUG'S SPICY MARGARITA" with a special South American spirit infused with jalapeno, triple sec, lime, OJ, rimmed with Tajin and garnished with a jalapeno also for $15. I also started with and enjoyed the smoked beef carpaccio with cold-smoked beef tenderloin carpaccio, fried shallots, truffled horseradish sauce, and capers for $16. Our friend recommended the pan roasted duck breast. I enjoyed the pan roasted duck breast with house-aged duck breast, pan roasted, served with truffle creamed peas, balsamic roasted mushrooms, baby turnips, and a rich duck jus for $43. A cup of coffee was $3.25. Our server Alina H. was very knowledgeable. Alina served us very well. Alina also recommended the duck. My total bill was $185 less gratuity. We arrived 40 mins. early do we didn't mind waiting, but surprisingly we received our table about 20 mins. early! The staff was constantly cleaning which was great. Empty plates didn't stay long on our table and our water glasses were refilled quickly. Not once did we need to ask our waitress for anything, she was on top of it! Gaby was THE BEST waitress!! The ambiance was truly amazing and the view was breathtaking. TIP: make sure your reservation is around sunset, the sky glows in so many vibrant colors. All the food we ordered was PHENOMENAL! I had the Pan Roasted Duck Breast. This was the 2nd time in my life I've eaten duck and the bar is now set extremely high. The breast was cooked to a perfect medium and had an amazing pan seared crust. The huckleberry compote brought a nice subtle sweetness that perfectly complimented the breast. The vegetables were seasoned with love. Every ingredient shined with its own personality, but also balanced each other. I love trying new dishes, but I already told my wife that I'm getting the Pan Roasted Duck Breast again next summer. I'll dream about this dish. Compliments to the chef!
