Went into the shootist yesterday for the first time just to look around. As I was looking around I saw a knife I knew I needed and that I wanted, so I was sold on it. Patrick was so kind and patient with us and answered all of our questions and he stayed with us as we looked around and let us hold and feel some of the items in the show cases. I didn't look at it too closely at the knife I had purchased, when I got home and did further inspection I found out I over paid for this knife. It was in the wrong box and priced way toooo much for what it was. It was the same brand as the box said but a different knife than what was labeled. We brought the knife back into the store and explained what happened to Tim, who was the sweetest! He heard us out and when he opened the box he saw that it was indeed the incorrect knife and that I was overcharged. Tim took great care of us in helping us resolve this issue as I really did want this knife but I didn't want to have paid more than I should have. The Shootist is by far one of the most family friendly community oriented gun stores in our existing area . I knew Randy ,the original owner for decades and of course his daughter Erin ,who's been running the store for over a decade plus by herself ,which is commendable. Patrick, is a great asset to their operations as his extensive knowledge with weapons is commendable as he has also served in federal service for over 20+ years. Briatta is just outstanding with superlative customer service and she makes many other people feel at ease when they come in for the first time as some individuals are quite reticent about purchasing guns and not having much knowledge of those ,yet Briatta is very accommodating as to explaining their weapons history , prices, as she has an excellent product knowledge and can do--special orders -as warranted , as well as has an understanding of these weapons, their use/caliber via ballistics and their respective applications for range//Hunting/self-defense applications as well as for law-enforcement use ,as applicable etc.. Tim is a pillar in the organization as he has been there a long time as well as have others. Tim is extremely comfortable ,like the " Dutch "uncle that you might know with whom you can speak with as he has a plethora of knowledge and speaks with candor yet is comfortable with a "down to Earth approach" without pressuring you to buy anything, which is a commendable and a tribute to their organization. - Their motto is :-"customers first"!- So what can be said about this local family business is that they are true to their word, true to the community, they support law-enforcement 100% , yet are extremely accommodating and very accessible. I know historically with other reviews sometimes folks can be a little bit unfair because of peoples personal experiences when to go into the shop for the first time and expect an "immediate response" and answers to their many questions *pronto *within seconds . So my response is *news flash*.... ;without sounding rhetorical ,existential or metaphysical- "this is not the In-N-Out Burger place people" -this is a the place to think about what you wish to purchase, as it is a big expense so one needs to think about the need for your weapon purchase ,the "correct"use for their specific need as one needs to always have a sense of civility , have patience and calmness with kindness when purchasing a weapon since you are being videotaped . So you never want to look like you're going to go off "half cocked" ,as my grandfather used to say all the time while being in a gun shop ,as that is not good form. Therefore ,in summary, for many years the "Shootest" has been consistently a "solid pillar in the community", paying taxes ,participating in local NRA and civic activities and functions with a strong sense of a patriotic direction for this great country as they give back to the community at large a lot . Good selection of weapons from handguns, shotguns to rifles. Lot of accessories to go with your weapons as well. Plenty of ammo but a bit on the higher price side. I have been here roughly 6-7 times and my experience with the staff has been helpful. Some are strictly business and don't want to talk about anything else. Others have a personality. If you know what you want, you can go here to get in and out. If you have a lot of questions, this is not the place to go. I would recommend this place for more experienced shooters but for the inexperienced shooter, I recommend you try elsewhere. read more

I was the buyer of a PPT. At the time of DROS, they charged me the $47.19 DROS fee plus a $10 storage fee. All of the research I have done shows the storage fee is not legal to charge. I contacted them approximately a week ago and they ignored my message to them. As much as I liked the store and the employees, I will not do business with a store that charges a storage fee up front and ignores a message to them. read more

Have bought 3 firearms over the years from these folks, and brought 2 friends in to purchase as well. My last 2 experiences are why I now give them a 2 star. Customer service is gone. The guys behind the counter seem bothered. They used to engage and ask questions and go through options with you. Now they are no different than going to Turners. They are like fast food now, so I will save 15 to 20 % buying the same exact gun and maybe wait a little more. They have eliminated the reason people came there. I get some of the reviews but I had a good experience. I brought in a custom slide for the gunsmith and got it back a week later. Paid a hassle free $45 for something I did not have the tools or expertise to complete. Prices are decent and well stocked. I was helped fairly quick. Visited this store three times and wont be back again. Each time i did not feel welcome, never being acknowledged even though i made clear eye contact with staff. That's one issue. Number two: the political talk is just unbearable. I get it, generally speaking guns and 2a is a right leaning thing, and all the shops ive been to have some political talk, but man is it extra here. I dont think this place has adjusted to the current climate of the nation, as all types of people on the political spectrum are out buying guns these days. My suggestion as a customer would be to keep the conversation on the one item everyone is in the room for: GUNS! I mean in the end run the business how u want to. U can be as unwelcoming as u want with all the political rhetoric, that's fine, im just saying who knows how much money youre letting walk out the door with that type of environment. So immediately after the 1st unpleasant experience back in july, drove right down the road to turners to buy my first smith and wesson 9mm. Then in august went back to turners for my mossberg 12 gauge (didnt even think of going to shootist cause of my last experience). Then in September visited again for reloading supplies for 12 gauge. They dont have reload supplies, which is fair enough but that was after multiple laps around the store waiting only to never be acknowledged and ultimately having to walk up to someone for help. Not good customer service. And now today. Im Working on building my first ar15. Got an aero precision m4e1 receiver from turners but remembered all the ar stuff the shootist had so decided to give it one last try. Same unwelcoming atmosphere, which is ashame because i was ready to buy the truglo armorers wrench they had on the wall their cmmg complete lower parts kit, a stock...like i said i only have the receiver so still have a lot of stuff to buy, but my experience was so bad overall that id rather just purchase elsewhere read more

First off let me start off by saying I used to be a ffl holder. I owned a gun store in El Cajon but live in temecula. Before buying my gun store I used to shop here. At that time there wasn't any other gun stores in town. I recently purchased a brand new beretta nano off a friend. It was his choice to do the ppt here. Mind you this is a off roster gun and was brand new so I payed more for it. I met him there on 8-21-13 to start the ppt. On 8-31 I go in to pick up the gun. The guy starts doing the paperwork then hands me the gun to check out. Immediately I notice multiple swirl scratches on the top of the slide. This is down to the metal. I got really upset and told the guy wth is this? He said I don't know we didn't touch it. You can leave it here or you can call Erin on Tuesday. So I took my gun and called Erin. She tells me to bring in the gun. I had it with me and was in the area so I was there within 15 minutes. She looks at it and asks me if I'm sure it wasn't like that. Yes lady I'm 100% positive it wasn't like that. They took the time to write on the paper work that the gun came in with no magazines, lock, and was with box only. So if it was damaged why wouldn't that be written??!! She says let me have the gunsmith look at it. She brings it back minutes later and the swirl marks are gone. I know what they did but asked. She said do you want to talk to the gun smith? I said yes. He comes out and says he put bluing on it. So I said it's going to come off again. He has the nerve to tell me if you shoot the gun the bluing comes off anyways. Yeah I know that it will come off where the slide meets the top off barrel but the top off the slide will not get swirl marks. I again was furious. Told Erin I was a Ffl holder and was not happy. She asked how I handled the situation when I had it happen. Told her I never had it happen. I never damaged anyone's gun. Told her I will let everyone know about this and write reviews everywhere I can letting people know. Her response was "I'm sorry we are a family owned and operated business". So what? What does that matter Now I finally had time to go to riverside county sheriff and add this on my Ccw. I have carried it once and guess what, the stuff their gunsmith sprayed on is now gone. Swirl marks are back just like I told them would happen. Complete bs and I do not recommend this place to anyone. And if you don't believe me contact me and I will send you pics of the gun. Oh yeah they also contacted the guy I bought the gun from and he even confirmed it was brand new. And he is a Leo so if you didn't believe me why wouldn't you believe him If you still want to do business with this place, I strongly recommend you take complete pics of the gun you are purchasing or doing a ppt. That way you are covered when you pick you gun up. I wish I could give this place 0 stars as they don't even deserve 1. And before you reply with some bs reply Erin, remember the facts and that you guys did this to yourselves. You could have easily taken care of the matter and treated me with respect and this could have been resolved. Instead you chose to do nothing. Treat a customer right he/she will tell a few friends. Treat a customer poorly and he will tell everyone. If this was a gun I could buy easily it would have been upsetting but not this bad. The fact this is a off roster and cost me some serious money and was damaged before I even got to shoot the gun has me furious. Avoid this place if you want to avoid problems. And to Erin and family, look for my review. I will be everywhere. Including forums where I can provide pics for proof. There were 4 employees preset that day, I waited patiently for my turn to purchase and ask a couple a questions, one guy with a seemingly crap attitude didn't acknowledge me at all after making eye contact. When he finally decided to help a customer, his attitude and answers were as crappy as the look on his face. I bought a KelTec Shotgun from a fellow Calgunner and he suggested we meet at The Shootist to do the PPT. I had to drive all the way from Northridge through holiday traffic and when we got here found out they had stopped doing PPT back in March! Our bad! But hold on - the owner heard us and said not to worry - since we had driven so far they would go ahead and process it for us! I can't thank them enough!! This is an AMAZING Gun store that looks like you've stepped into the Old West. They have a TON of rifles on the wall and plenty of ammo. The one time I but a used gun that was damaged beyond repair their gunsmith refused to charge me and they gave me full store credit.
