So, I do not generally leave 1 * reviews. However the treatment that my two adult children received at The shootist yesterday was abhorrent. They went in to the store to ask some questions about weapons they were considering purchasing for their CCW. Not only were they treated like idiots but they were given incorrect information. My husband and I purchased many firearms and would love to use someone local. However we will continue to drive to Oceanside to purchase our firearms and get information. If it were me that were spoken to that way the police probably would have had to be called to the store. As for you owners of The shootist you should be ashamed of yourselves and the way that you are representing the firearms community. I do not know how you stay in business. Best customer service I've had anywhere in YEARS. Can't find employees who will take the time to genuinely help out anywhere else BUT here. I, a young female, went in and took the FSC test. TIM went over it with me when I was done and reviewed the one quesiton I missed. He then started showing me various pistols that would fit my needs and let me hold them and educated me THOROUGHLY on each one. We then moved to the revolver section and he again taught me the differences each one held AND the pros and cons of all the ammo available. Ended of purchasing a beautiful practically one of a kind floral S&W with a lot of history behind it. Tim's got me now potentially hooked on a new hobby/collection for the amazing pieces The Shootist carries. I've been looking for a good gun store in Temecula/Murrieta for a while now. Faith Armory wasn't bad, but they were a bit pricey and, eventually, went out of business. When I found The Shootist, I couldn't have been happier with the selection and service. They have a decent selection of new guns, but to be honest, I'm kind of a cheap bastard and their considerable volume of used/consigned arms is just right! I do wish they had more tactical rifles, but I do have the option of finding a new one through their online store and picking it up. Staff was rude. Unwilling to help and explain simple things to a paying customer (over $3,000 out the door.) Never felt like such a burden asking questions about something I just purchased. When my wife and I first visited The Shootist, I fell in love with the store. The way it was, the great help I got from Daniel and the product they had in stock. ( I have no idea what happened to Daniel) I did buy a gun and when I returned ( to go shopping some more) I was ignored, treated badly and the customer service sucked. I will never return again. I notice some customers and employees not wearing mask so I asked if it was required. The man rudely told me, "This is America, we do what we want. You can wear it or not" The gun I bought has an issue with locking up. When I asked for help, the guy responed by saying, "I don't know what to tell you" Really? how about bring it in and let our gunsmith look at it. Then I started looking at the Law Enforcement gun display. I was rudely told I was not allowed to look at that section because it was for cops only. Fed up with this guy, I told the man I had a badge. Quickly, his attitude changed toward me and I finally got some help. Not good customer service help, but I did get some help from someone else. I felt descriminated against because of the color of my skin. (I'm from Texas and Hispanic) Never have I felt this way or treated as such. What is this world coming to. read more

I have been to every gun store from Tijuana to Temecula and am usually pretty accustomed to seeing poor to average customer service at a gun store. With that being said the customer service, or lack of, I experienced at The Shootist was so horrible that I decided to write this review. I saw that the Shootist had a really good price on an HK pistol (well below normal price) so I decided to take a look at one. The rep who helped me (Will) looked like he didn't want to be there and acted that way. Every question I asked seemed like a burden for him to answer and when I decided I wanted to go ahead and buy the $800+ pistol I asked if he had a newer off-shelf version in the back and his reply was "we probably have a bunch back there and I'm not going to look through all of them to find one for you". At that point I had decided that even if I spent $100 more on this same gun elsewhere I would gladly give any other shop my money. I walked out and called Faith Armory and although they don't normally price match on guns, they said that they would gladly honor the same price that the Shootist advertised since I had such a bad experience there. I was in and out of Faith Armory within 20 minutes with the money down on my new HK. Bottom line, firearms go through tons of abuse and have a high likelihood that at one point you may require a warranty replacement, fix, or modification. If the process of giving this place money is unpleasant, imagine what the post-purchase service would be like. Stay away from the Shootist unless you like dealing with grumpy middle-aged men. read more

This is my last stop before small claims court. I dropped off my shotgun over a year ago for repair and I cannot get them to return a phone call. When I brought it in originally I was told "we'll take a look at it and we'll let you know how much it will cost to fix". Great. I was then called back later and their repair price was more than what I wanted to pay, so I said I'd just come and pick it up. Much to my surprise I was informed that I would have to pay for the inspection. Reluctantly I decided to have them just go ahead and do the repair since they were going to apply the inspection time toward the repair. Fine. So I wait a couple weeks and then leave a voicemail to check the status of my repair. No call back. Repeat this every month for the next twelve months and here I am without one call back in over a year. Ridiculous. Very disappointing, I really wanted to like this place considering everyone but the owner was very helpful. read more

This place is a joke! There are a few exceptions, but for the most part the staff is as rude as they come. They talk down to their customers and make you feel belittled if/when you have questions. Not only have I experienced this first hand, but I have observed them doing it to many others. On top of that they are almost always busy and they have not figured out away to systematically get to their costumers. It's a free for all and it's a joke. A number system would be an easy fix. This place is great. I've only recently started visiting there to pickup ammo transfers. Always greeted respectfully and business as usual. I have stood and watched them interact with other customers and see the same for everyone. they are well staffed and the inventory is better than some others with exception to ammo. I'l say this. Wow I couldn't disagree with Damien more. I found out about this place through Yelp and the huge billboard on the I-15 by Lake Elsinore. So I finally decided to pay them a visit last week. Walked in to find a western type vibe with lots of staff dealing with surprisingly lots of customers. Great selection of guns and accessories from cowboy style lever action rifles to a huge selection of service pistols and ammo. Prices here are closer to MSRP but it's expected with mom & pop shops. Customer service was def not a problem since they were well staffed at the time of my visit. I was helped by Bill B and he was very helpful and went out of his way to help me find what I was looking for. Will definitely be back! read more

I was looking for black Friday deals and browsing the local gun shops and saw these yelp reviews for the Shootist in Murrieta Ca. I was surprised to see so many low stars on some reviews. Two years ago I found a mint 1970's Smith and Wesson model 41 at an Arizona pawn shop website. The 41 is an off roster pistol here in Ca but has an "Olympic exemption" which makes it legal to import into Ca. I tried several FFL's including Turners but nobody would touch it. Then I called the Shootist and they said they would check it out. To my surprise they called me back the next day and said go ahead and buy it! They really took good care of me through the process and today the 41 is one of my favorite 22 target pistols thanks to the Shootist. read more

They could pull off their arrogantness when they were the only game in town. You now have other local mom and pop shops in Temecula. You have to play their game (mind game) if you decide to shop from them. There is only one decent customer friendly person there. It is the younger guy. The others are jerks. My friend once bought a shotgun from them after negociating the price over the phone and they change their price when he got to the store and wouldn't budge. They also had all these low quality (Olympic Arms) AR15 rifles they marked as Law enforcement only. These guys are well behind progressive thinking. If your an old timer from the area, go for it. I had decided I was finally going to get the Savage Arms Mark II BSEV. I had a quote from Turners Outdoors but decided I'd rather support a local merchant if they could get within $25 or so of the Turner's quote. So I went in to see if I could buy my first gun (I have two guns I inherited). The guy behind the counter wasn't familiar with the gun I wanted which is fine as it's not a popular model. He asked someone else and then both went in to the back to look it up. After a while, one guy came out with a web print out and a hand written price, handed it to me, and walked away. So there I am, with a print out, a price (a little too high but close enough to explain what I wanted to discuss), and I still haven't told anyone that I wanted to give them my business. So I stand there for 5 minutes looking around. The first guy is just dinking on the computer and the second guy is nowhere to be found. And no one else in the store is paying attention to me even though I'm trying to make eye contact with anyone with a pulse. So I leave, only to give Turner's my business that same afternoon. So if you want to be ignored when you want to talk business, then The Shootist is the place to go. And when the conversation turns to "saving the local merchant", give this story a second thought and ask if that particular merchant is worth saving. Really attentive staff. I have been in here twice. Staff has been terrific. They are patient and informative. They will help you find the right gun - home protection, target shooting, hunting, and collectors... They have a large selection. They also clean and repair guns here. They have new and used. The only annoyance I have had is from some customers that cannot suppress their politics. Twice I have been cornered by these 4 percenters who proselytize of a coming disaster, government conspiracy - that evangelical and conspiratorial demographic of white, rural, male, 50s, disenfranchised, NRA member, that speaks for just 4% of gun owners and makes the other 96 million owners somewhat uncomfortable. Went in with my husband to do a title transfer on a rifle, and can I tell you that impressed can't begin to describe what I was!!! Bob was awesome!!! He made a mundane transaction educational and interesting at the same time... Who knew?!? As a female it is easy to feel intimidated by the whole "firearm" situation, however as a result of the way Bob presented information and conducted the transaction, I was completely comfortable with the entire experience!! read more

Had a great first experience visiting the store and buying my first hand gun from them! Chris provided excellent customer service the entire time from beginning to end of my purchase. He dealt with all my questions, showed me their selection of 45's and guided me through every step a first time gun purchasing process while being attentive and kind. I never felt like he was condescending or annoyed of having to deal with a gun newbie and explain what certain basics were or why he recommended what he did. He also never tried to up sell me on different items the store had or even recommend more pricier hand guns options. He understood what I wanted and made me feel confident in my decision.
