We've been going to this Shrimp Lover location for years and have celebrated many birthdays and other special occasions here. This past weekend, we realized we haven't visited this place for several months so we decided to go for dinner. The parking here is usually packed but there's a lot of parking spaces, so it isn't too much of a bother. We were surprised to see a few changes in the store - good changes. Part of the store has been renovated to accommodate a cloud kitchen (Thai cuisine). They were closed when we came so we'll have to try next time. They've removed the signature Polaroid photos of customers who have dined with them (which I kinda missed seeing) as well as the fishing net that hung on the ceiling. These changes gave the place a cleaner look. What hasn't changed? The same friendly staff who have been there for years. Our server even recognized us and said it was nice to see us again. The menu had a little more added to it but the usual Cajun seafood boil remains the highlight. They now accept credit cards again but the option to pay cash is still available. Since there were only two of us, we only ordered the Cajun seafood boil, the Cajun fries, fresh coconut juice, and their new dessert - coconut pandan cake (this is a must try). At the end of the night, we came to an agreement that the flavor of their seafood boil is still our personal favorite. We arrived at about 6:55pm, closing time is listed at 8:30pm. We considered it odd to pay before you sit down to eat, but we're pretty chill so we didn't think much of it. I ordered the unpeeled shrimp, big mistake. Shrimp was impossible to peel & extremely fishy. It was NASTY. Luckily, my partner told me to try his peeled shrimp & it tasted much fresher. At which point, he went back up to the counter to order another pound of peeled shrimp. You'd think that for the prices you're paying you would at least get decent service. Sadly not. The people working were incredibly unwelcoming, never coming to check on us or the table next to us the whole time we were there. We had to flag people down for service. My partner went to wash his hands, at which point the employee looked at him & took his time with his task before moving out of the way. No apology, very little acknowledgment. When we were gathering our stuff to leave, one of the lady's working there started cleaning our table! We were still sitting!! This was at 7:45pm at this point. If service were better I would've given this at least 3 stars. We wont be coming back, which is unfortunate considering how close it is to home. No wonder this place was empty. We were there for mother's day dinner Sunday. Good thing we made reservation for 3PM. The place was packed w line out the door! Everything was so yummy DELICIOUS! Drinks: Thai tea, Diet Coke, and beers/lime. Dinner: Pad Siu w beef (so tasty) seafood combo, 2 lbs shrimp extra spicy hot (seafood is so plump,fresh and sweet); the fish and chips w Cajun fried were the children's favorite!, crispy calamari w Cajun fries are so good; coconut seafood soup (loaded with fish), best Cajun fried rice ever. Food: The shrimp and other seafood is fresh and sold per pound. It includes the sauce choice along with the options for the add-ins such as potatoes, sausages, and corn. They offer other Thai inspired offerings such as fried rice, noodles, etc. as well as fries. It actually makes it a bit eclectic but I come here for the shrimp. I get them unpeeled with the heads on so you can snap them and then suck out the juices. It is really good for that and the sauces make them better. Service: The service is fine here but I only care about the food since I am going to get messy. My water and drinks were not left empty. Ambiance: This is a good place to eat shrimp right on the Redondo Beach pier. You can view the ocean as you chow down on some shrimp and have a beverage of choice. I love boiled shrimp in a bad with all the spices and ingredients. This one was not to disappointing . I grabbed a pound of shrimp with all their flavors in a bag except for the curry seasoning . First time I saw that as an option on the mix flavor , but I didn't know what to expect from that so I didn't want to ruin my experience. The sauce was very , very tasty . service was great . We came in a slower day probably before rush hour . We go to redondo beach pier often to eat shrimp downstairs at quality seafood , even though we always pass by this place to park . Never went inside till we decided to . I definitely recommend this place . One thing I do HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Pay the extra bucks for the Deveined shrimp . . There was way too much vein and it made it a bit uncomfortable to eat . Even though I extremely love the Head on . It was just way too much yucky vein on the shrimp . This place is amazing!!! Let start by saying I read all the reviews and well there is allot of false comments. This is not a cash only place, they accept all major credit cards. Also, they do have bathrooms for their customers. The food is amazing and very flavor-able. Every dish is exquisite. They taste authentic. It's fresh and great portions. Here are just a couple of plates we ordered. Honestly it was so good I had to put my camera down and enjoy the food or I would have taken more pictures of some of the other plate we enjoyed. The meats are moist, tender and every bite is delicious! The service was great and they were all very attentive. The staff is very sweet and great people if you take the time to speak with them. They all greeted us with smiles. I preferred the pay upfront motto. That way when we are done and ready we can just go. I know in comments said they backward leaving a tip before getting the meal, I am sure if you ask they can remove and add at the end if you ask. Or can leave a cash tip at the end. Let's talk about the view! The sunsets are amazing here and you are practically ocean front. There is a full view of windows to enjoy the view from any table. Walked in & was immediately greeted by the person at the register. They have the menu to the right of the entrance & laid out on the table where the register is. We ordered at the register first & then we were directed to our table. These two plates were shared between two and my favorite of was the Chow Mein w added shrimp as our protein. The entire plate was delicious but I really enjoyed the amount of veggies. I felt the cilantro added a refreshing taste to it all and the cabbage side was a great addition that offered a different texture from the noodles, veggies & shrimp. I love it here ! This is definitely my go-to place at Redondo Beach! I've heard that there are other great places at the pier, and personally... I didn't like them. From the shacks to the formal attire locations - this is the best. It feels like home, everyone is so welcoming, there's plenty of space to bring the whole family. Cash only though! We used to live in Torrance so would come here all the time. Was in town for a wedding and thought we would get some good shrimp boil. Not sure if this place changed owners but the food and service was terrible. You now order as soon as you walk in also expecting a tip before service. We ordered shrimp with sausage, mild cajun seasoning with a side of rice. The shrimp tasted like freezer burn shrimp, the seasoning was just oil, the sausage was terrible and rice was basic white rice. The service was a joke they never checked on us never refilled our drinks and if we needed anything had to get up from the table and find someone. We got the shrimp boil with "medley" mild seasoning and corn on the cob. 4/5- the shrimp was fresh and delicious and the sauce was really tasty but some of the sauce had an oily taste to it. Corn was super sweet and perfect with the shrimp boil sauce. The fried shrimp- 5/5 delicious and fresh, thin and crispy crust layer. Came with a delicious sweet and sour type sauce and the Cajun fries were on point. Garlic bread- 5/5 soooo soft and great flavor. The pricing was very reasonable, especially for the prime location and views. Our total with everything above and a raspberry iced tea, with their included 15% gratuity was around $67. This is my favorite South Bay resto. But I really hope they can get back to pre-pandemic times. The flavors here are phenomenal with the Thai influence, especially the flavorful Medley seasoning that I can't get enough of. I always order a pound of shrimp with the head on with medley medium spice, West Coast wings with ranch, and an ice cold Blue Moon. The views of the pier and beach are truly worth the premium prices here. It's not Boiling Crab, but in my foodie opinion, it's so much better. Service is a bit lacking but understandable with the lack of tourism on the weekdays. Remember to bring cash and a 15% service charge is already included. For casual dining, with the added bonus of 5 star views, I wish I could give it more stars to show how good their unique sauce really is. They are truly the only Cajun boil I will eat now. read more

When I arrived there was no one at the restaurant. There was also no host in sight, so we entered deeper into the restaurant to be told we have to order first and wait up front. The host didn't give me any memorable welcome she was like, whatever about us being there. She didn't say hello. Was not rude either, though. I ordered our food and paid first. I was informed that if we are paying with card it's a 3% fee. I received the print out for the credit card receipt but no itemized receipt. I was filling it out and realized that the total was a bit more than I calculated. I think the host realized my confusion and THEN informed me there's also an imposed 15% service fee. The food was okay, just okay. It was not memorable. The Thai tea that I had was good. I ordered the spare Ribs which included three with not much meat. My grandmother got the fried shrimp with fries. She enjoyed her dish. Unfortunately, I won't be returning. I do not like imposed tipping or "service fees". The service was okay as well. The host checked on us.
