But will miss the southern hospitality, generosity the owners Lisa & Steve have given to the community. A Bittersweet Farewell to a South Bay Icon! I've been coming here (well first in Hermosa then their food truck now here) for their entire 31+ years! I couldn't let Ragin' Cajun Cafe close its current chapter without one last visit for that authentic Louisiana soul food. This place has been such a staple in Redondo Beach and South Bay and while I'm sad to see the "Cafe" era end, I'm also excited for what's next - it's sure to be a hit! You can tell they don't ever skimp on the seafood--it was packed with flavor and the perfect way to start the meal. * Hush Puppies: Golden, crispy, and exactly what a hush puppy should be. They have that slightly sweet cornmeal interior that pairs so well with their savory dishes. Always worth adding! * Combo Jambalaya Plate: A massive portion and pure comfort. The spices were spot on--bold but not overwhelming--and every bite was loaded with meat and perfectly cooked rice. My goto comfort... The Next Chapter: For anyone worried about losing these flavors: don't panic! While Ragin' Cajun is closing, the owner and chef are reopening very soon in the same spot as Redondo Beach Grill. I was nice to give a 2-stars review. Since the owner apparently got offended by MY review and experience, he decided to comment right away. So here's an update. 1st assumption: I've never eaten here before. Nowhere does my review state this. 2nd assumption: My party and I ate on the patio tables. Nope! I never stated that either! 1st accusation: My review holds no merit. To be an elite yelper of 12 years, my reviews obviously hold some type of weight. 2nd accusation: I want to create drama. Ha! My history of reviews reflects many more positives than negatives. A child could read and see this. For $20, the portion was small. It tasted like basic corn chowder with a few sprinkles of seafood. Fried pickles = thumbs down. Most places sell them crispy and overly salty. These were a far stretch. Fried shrimp = flavorless. Coating was too light and barely fried. This building surely needs a major overhaul. I understand it's closing in a month and understand why. My friend used a napkin to wipe the table in front of her. The napkin was full of dirt! The women's bathroom had patched up stucco on the walls. One toilet did not flush and had no sign on the door. Heads up: After 32 years of serving the South Bay: Ragin' Cajun will close its doors on March 1, 2026. So go soon if you're hankering for Cajun à la Cuisine Acadienne. Bon Chance et Prospérité!!! Ragin' Cajun looks as though it were plucked right out of the Bayou Tèche in Southern Louisiana. I could be somewhere on a back road near Saint Martinville. The owner was in her Mardi Gras best in shades of purple, gold, and green on this Tuesday the day before Ash Wednesday. Parking lot has over grown plantings that also feels Southern. Kinda charmingly ramshackled, self consciously kitschy to perhaps reference itself to the rightfully proud "Coonass" culture. 1) Cajun Fried Chicken: "Perfectly seasoned and cooked with our own secret spices." Very delicately seasoned unlike the bold flavors of Cajun spice mix added in when I ate fried chix near West Feliciana Parish, LA. But the buttermilk marinade made the meat soft, moist except the breast which in most cases is almost always drier. The thigh has a combination of lush fat & plush, Jidori-like meat that was impressive. I wish I could only order the thighs. However, the menu says "no substitutions" which I respect. Sides: a) Delightful Hush Puppies like buttermilk donut holes except pleasantly extra crispy almost crunchy on the outside and cakey inside when hot from the frier. Almost subliminal chicken fat flavour as though it were fried in the same oil to fry chicken. b) Corn Bread is moist, dense, cakey. Probably has a bit of wheat flour, and not the crumbly pure corn meal type. 2) Crawfish Étouffée Combo: a) Crawfish Étouffée has a great buttery, suave, smooth roux with subtle Cajun Mirepoix contrasting well with the chewy Crawfish tails. Of the 3, the Étouffée was the most sophisticated. b) Gumbalaya with the same dry, shredded fibrous breast meat absorbing Gumbo soup which had very little Umami. A dash of Cajun Power Lightin' Strikes with a sharp gastrique pepped up the Gumbo enough. c) Red Beans & Rice with that earthy legume scent & rather bland yet porky Sausage was good. When the Cajun Power Garlic sauce was judiciously applied, it kicked this dish up a notch. All the above was served with very soft, well sauced rice. 3) Butter Cake: Heated, soft, gooey, mushy w/ nice light, toasty caramel taste, soothingly butter scented, rounded flavours. Dollop of good dairy scented vanilla ice cream, and drizzling of fruity strawberry sauce. Perfect for those with a major sweet tooth. 1-3a) Iced Tea and lots of it to slake the thirst after 1 1/2 hours of driving to Redondo Beach and to clear my palate during a massive meal of which I am not complaining. Lord knows I love this place to pieces. But today.... I'm not a happy camper. Ordered Bayou Bisque and Seafood bisque. Both withOUT rice. I had the tiniest scoop of soup with the largest portion of rice on both. I did NOT want a cup of $13 rice each. Smh. I'm beyond disappointed today I always know this place to give 110% and always get my order right. But I drove 45 min to come and support just to be given RICE uuuuuugh! I should have looked at it when the hubby picked it up. And the only reason I ordered without rice is because I CANNOT eat white rice. I get really sick. Cute little Cajun place in the South Bay. Spacious and has a parking lot. Walked in on a Friday for lunch without any issue. Service was great and responsive. For food, we went with the wings and fried pickles for appetizers. The pickles were fried well and it overly salty. The ranch was excellent. The wings were great but nothing too special. They taste great and I'm pretty sure they use franks red hot sauce. For entree, I went with the po boy which was excellent. The gumbo was just okay a little less thick than I'd want. Grilled alligator is better than fried alligator?! Think a cross between frog legs-fish-chicken texture. Highly recommend. I sampled 3 things on happy hour: Gumbolaya 2/5: too salty; rice was too hard or stale? Fried catfish and fried okra: 5/5. Kristina and I returned to one of our favorite South Redondo haunts, Rajin Cajun, for a night of sports and great food. Per our tradition, we sat at the bar to take advantage of their excellent TV setup. It was a wild night for sports, featuring a Lakers/Clippers showdown and the Chicago Bears clinching an overtime victory against Green Bay. While the Cajun specialties are always tempting, we went with Nick's Burger and Cajun fries this time. The burger was delicious, but the variety of Cajun dipping sauces really took the fries to the next level. We were also pleasantly surprised by the wine list; we spotted a Chardonnay for $30 and were thrilled to find out it was Josh. Between the affordable wine, the great food, and the upcoming Journey Jukebox concert series this February, Rajin Cajun continues to be a local favorite. read more

This is the only cajun place I could find in South Bay. So, I was really excited to find it. It is located on PCH and it has its own small parking lot. Somehow it was full when there were only 6 tables occupied. Not sure what happens when the restaurant gets full. I had the crawfish étouffée combo, which had the crawfish étouffée, gumbo, and red beans and rice. The gumbo was fire. The red beans and rice was great too. The étouffée wasn't living up to expectations. The crawfish had not taste. It was bland. I drowned it with the sauces on the table plus the salt and pepper. I even put in the butter that came with the roll. Not sure if I was supposed to mix everything up but it wasn't what I expected. I'm no expert and don't claim to be one of cajun food but this isn't my first étouffée, and it didn't live up unfortunately. I would come back to try the other dishes. I've been going to Ragin Cajun for almost 30 years and even followed Steve Domingue to his different locations. Loyal doesn't even begin to cover it. About 11 years ago, Steve sold it to another Steve (don't get them confused), and it has never been the same. Since then, this place has been run straight into the ground. The food is a sad shadow of what it used to be--bland, inconsistent, and honestly disappointing. The service? Worse. Slow, careless, and completely lacking the charm and pride that once made this place special. It's no surprise they're closing. This didn't "just happen." When you ruin the food and let the service go downhill, loyal customers eventually stop coming. Longtime fans watched a beloved spot get dismantled piece by piece, and this is the result. What a shameful ending to what used to be a great place. I'm sure the owner will have to have his say since he replies to every negative review with how great the place is, they've won best Cajun Food South Bay every year which is not hard to do.... Rage InCajun: A Feast Worth Pacing Yourself For If you're planning a meal at Rage InCajun, here's some advice: skip the sides unless you're really hungry. The portions are deceptively generous, and the dishes are incredibly filling. I ordered a side of the vegan gumbo to start, and while it was delicious, I couldn't finish it once my main dish--a bowl of catfish etouffee--arrived. The rice alone is hearty enough to fill you up, and the servings are much larger than they appear. That said, save room for dessert if you can. 2026 annual birthday celebration at 1 of thee most authentic Cajun spots in LA. I ate so much so much tasty food that I had to take off my watch. After opening gifts at the table I ended up forgetting my watch at Ragin Cajun. Once I got home I called and spoke with Lisa who so graciously looked for it even though it was pretty busy at dinner time on a Saturday night, left my name and contact information and she called me back within 30 mins with good news that she found it on the floor. There are a few cajun-style restaurants in the South Bay, and in my opinion, Ragin Cajun is the best of the lot; maybe not as good as what you'd find on Bourbon Street, but as good as you're going to get when you're more than a thousand miles from NOLA. The menu has a wide range of items. There are many other events like music every Friday night, special dinners and concerts, and the occasional crawfish boil. Of course, I always have to try the gumbo at a Cajun restaurant, and here there are two, a chicken & sausage gumbo and a vegan gumbo. Very good, and even better after adding some hot sauces to the mix. There are so many dishes that I've had I'm not sure what to say. The po-boys have always been good. The seafood (catfish, salmon, snapper, shrimp, lobster, etc.) has always made a great dinner. For a treat, there are some cajun delicacies like frog legs and alligator. If someone in your party isn't very daring, they can always order a burger and fries. I will mention that I was a regular visitor a couple of decades ago when Ragin Cajun was located on Pier Ave in Hermosa Beach. Since they moved to their new location on PCH in Redondo Beach, I don't come as often, but when I get an itch to have some cajun food, this restaurant is my first choice. read more

I wish them well, and hope that Steve Domingue (hope I got that right!) and his family pop up with another Cajun restaurant soon. My son always loves the alligator bites. This time I tried a cup of vegan or vegetarian (sorry, I'm neither, and I've forgotten which category this dish fell into) cup of gumbo. Served with red beans and rice. Yummy flavors, but still way too spicy for this gringa's palate. I'll be cooking more rice to dilute that sassy spicy zing! Leftovers should be perfect then! Sadly, they were out of our favorite dessert, pecan pie. So, I opted for peach cobbler. When I got it, it was served cold. It was looking good, the server was nice and friendly. I ordered to go at the bar today just after lunch (2 pm) in an empty restaurant. The atmosphere gives you the illusion of what you can imagine and I hoped their cajun food was going to be about. Cajun fun flavor - Cajun license plates, fleur-dis-lis all around, alligator heads, dollar bills taped to the walls (good looks, signs of life and good times). Today the ambiance was much better than the food. The catfish bites while looking delicious had very little taste, as there was no Cajun in that catfish. I was pleasantly surprised with this restaurant. I've passed it multiple times but it never caught my attention. The menu is vast. There are so many options to choose from, in a good way. I decided to go with the fried chicken meal. It was a little heavy (as there are 4 pieces), but I shared it with my date. The chicken was piping hot but it lacked some salt/seasoning. I tried frog legs for the first time and it was definitely better than I expected. The seafood bisk my date got was phenomenal. It had a chowder consistency and was very flavorful. I enjoyed the red beans & rice, but would've liked a little more rice than beans. We ordered a pitcher of the hurricane and it was pretty strong. There was a little too much ice in the pitcher, but other than that, no complaints. Overall practically everything we ordered was delicious. Fantastic service and good food. Me and my roommate went on a Saturday night just after the rush. The food and drinks came o it quickly. The server timed the orders well and entree came out after appetizer. We got the fried catfish which was fantastic. Their gumbalaya is fantastic. Gumbo was good goo but the gumbalaya was more hearty. We split a softshell crab po boy and this is the reason for the reduced star. The crab itself was well fried and slightly fishy which is fine, but for the price, I expected ceab in every bite but it was mostly bread and very bland. We'll definitely be back and try other things. What we tried is equivalent to what I used to get in rural Alabama, just higher price point of course since it's LA. We've lived in the area for ten years and I've driven by so many times and finally made it inside. Ironically we were trying to go to boiling crab but didn't feel like waiting 2 hours for a table- so we ended up at Ragin Cajun. Their seafood boil was pretty good and we thought the shrimp were especially fresh. We would've liked a few more potatoes and more than one piece of corn. Also tried the alligator and tots. The good: This place always has the coolest outdoor seasonal decorations! The place drew my attention because they have giant inflatables on their roof and a fun outdoor space. We came on a weekend and there was live music outside (Def Leopard covers). There was a good crowd and my toddler and her cousin enjoyed dancing to the lively music. I tried the fried pickle appetizer, chicken tenders, a fish dish and a few of my other family's dishes. The bad: The fried pickled were recommended but weren't that interesting. The batter fell off the pickles and the pickles were pretty hard inside. The portions weren't as big as I expected and all of the food was just ok. I felt like the food wasn't the freshest. Parking was difficult. Their parking lot was blocked off for the outdoor concert so we had to look for street parking across the street and up the hill. This use to be my go to if I wanted a good Cajun meal. I haven't been in quite awhile and needless to say , I will not go back. My appetizer was great. I had fried okra but the rest of my party's food was mediocre to say the least. The catfish bites were not seasoned at all. I had a shrimp po boy sandwich that was tolerable but the fried shrimp was tasteless and the stuffed red snapper left a lot to be desired. For the money that was spent, I would not recommend. I should have suspected something when I walked in. The place was practically empty. The only thing I can say positive is that our waitress was very polite and accommodating. Nola native, and I thought this place was pretty good. Red beans had good flavor, though andouille was a bit mild. Etouffe had good depth and it came with a good amount of crawfish tails. Shrimp poboy had nicely done fried shrimp and dressing, but the bread was off mark (was fresh, but was more like Jimmy John's instead of poboy bread). Corn bread was super moist, though on sweet side. Small gripe, but hot sauces were strange - why not just keep it real with tobasco, Louisiana hot sauce or even crystal? no outside place can really do cajun justice, but this place is as close as it comes.
