I highly recommend this restaurant. The slabs were delicious and we all appreciated the fact that they were cut. The sauce was very tasty and so were the fries. About a week ago I went to check out The Slab in South Shore. First let me say I loved the decor! It's the fist of its kind for the South Shore community, which has never had a barbecue restaurant. The food was excellent! I had some of the greens and potato salad, both of which will definitely warrant a return visit. Whenever you get me to drink the juice from the greens, you're definitely on to something! First of all let me start off by saying The Slab BBQ has turned me out to eating pork again. The food here is so worth it. The St.Louis Ribs and the Tips are so meaty and juicy. Oh! and please don't get me started on the hand cut fries that are to die for that comes with all the food. Honestly everything on the menu is fire! The customer service here is very accommodating and they are super friendly. This is a Black owned family business and the owners come and interact with the guests a lot. The meat wasn't consistent. A lot was dried out, while the portions that weren't, it was pretty good.

It seems that there's a BBQ revival going on in the food world. But with that, sometimes you get a glut of "fancy" BBQ joints, which, IMHO try to do WAYYY too much. Sometimes (in fact MOST times) you just need an old-school spot that honors BBQ traditions the way they're supposed to be honored. That is what The Slab brings to the table. I ordered through Uber Eats a jumbo tip with extra sauce. This is my first time experiencing this place, my total order was 28 dollars for a jumbo tip. When my order came I had what looked to be a medium with burnt fries soaked in sauce, and my tips were burnt and hard. I was so disappointed because I couldn't send it back for my money. If customers purchase through a third party app for food it's obviously a compliment they chose your establishment. I order from this restaurant yesterday off of uber eats and I added a note not to put sauce on my order or fries, And they did just that I immediately contacted uber eats and sent them a picture, But they claimed that I didn't send a note but I did I don't eat everyone's sauce I usually put my own on it,I still tried to eat some of it since I paid for it ,Trying to help smaller businesses in my neighborhood what a big mistake the little food that I ate was horrible, And I threw it all up so don't ever eat at this restaurant I have learned my lesson I will stick with what I know from now on! read more

Tried it out on the reco from family who lives in the area. Ordered tip, Link, and wing combo. Tips were tender and delicious...agree with others who noticed they were unevenly cut. Link was good, not great but not bad. But where's my chicken??? I should've known when I saw the very large portion of tips, something wasn't right. Tried calling to ask they make my order right, but as others mentioned, their phone line wasn't allowing me to get thru . Hand cut fries were delish, as was their sauce, but they were mad stingy with the sauce. I should have taken a hint from those who orders before me who asked for extra sauce . Finally, I ordered sides...all bland and not worth the $. I ordered green and Mac...just basic. One consolation was the cole slaw that came with the combo...now that was a good bite. I went here yesterday for a 1/2 slab of ribs but they ran out... so i got a small rib tip with a side of baked beans The rib tips were pretty decent and the beans were goos.I probably wouldnt try the tips however i am looking forward to trying the chicken and the charbroiled burgers. First order through Grub Hub. Seasoning and Flavor of rib tips was spot on; tasty sauce is two thumbs up. I think large tip was from Fri night. I ordered early Sat evening. Couple teaspoons of tasty coleslaw with with bread. REALLY. Brunt ends that I personally like, but normally should be optional in a tip order at customer's request. The dry fries were definitely not freshly fried - many Hours old. Bread and fries went straight to the trash. I saw mixed reviews and decided to try. Want to be supportive of minority owned businesses and essential workers & hustling delivery drivers. Kirks in South burbs is still the FAV because of their consistent quality. Resent when business try to dupe the customer with older food they should discount to move...and still but be fair to the customer. $60+ order...expect it to all to be freshly prepared to be satisfactory. I agree with the person who commented about the tips not being cut evenly. I ordered a large tip & had many different sized tips. Overall the barbecue was good. The hot links were not the greatest. The sausage needs to be ground more & the hand cut fries tasted like they used old potatoes. I love homemade fries with barbecue sauce, but these were not good at all. This review is not based on the preparation nor the taste of The Slabs cuisine; this review is based on the unprofessionals that were hired to perform a simple task i.e., taking food orders via telephone. I had relatives visiting and helping out at my home since i had major surgery a few weeks ago. So I decided to treat my family to a meal. I phoned The Slab up around 4:52 pm on Friday. My request was rather simple. Rib Tips and burgers. i decided to use the email order form on line. After a few moments, I made a call to the restaurant to verify my order had been received. The young lady taking my order never inquired about my choice of pick up/delivery. I then called back to verify that I had given her my address, name, and phone number. Her initial response to me, I thought you were picking it up. Then it dawned on me, she never inquired weather I wanted it delivered or picked up. I gave her my info plus my phone number and she said she would add the delivery fee. She then gave me a total. About 7:00 pm I tried to call back, to check on the status of my order but the line went to voice mail for at least an hour. We gave up. So around 8:15pm I phoned back and the order taker answered immediately. I informed her what had happened, and she immediately let me know she was not there earlier. She placed me on hold for a second then returned to our conversation. She was very apologetic, but I went on to say to her what was the point of my giving you my phone number, and you did not have the commom courtesy to phone me back with an explaination. She did indicate their driver was so busy, and they had a large crowd of patrons waiting for their orders in side the store. Then she goes on to ask me if I wanted to place my order again, my response to her was I dont think so. At that point some of my relatives had started to leave. In South Shore, you can honestly see the numerous vacant business that are no longer in existance. But one has to understand their business will only be patronize by those customers on the phone who are treated with the utmost respect, loyality, and gratitube. Remember that old saying "The customer is always right." That saying once meant something. I will never order via phone or walk into this establishment to patronize it because one would never know if the staff was operating with professionalism regardless of the crowd. What happened to "real customer service?" It said bye, we dont need your money, its Friday, and the crowd will continue to expand. To hell with that one customer on the phone, we are making money now, that one customer will not make a difference. We have arrived! read more

This is a great spot! I like my ribs with no sauce because I want to taste the real meat and it amazing. The fried chicken wings fresh and on point grease was fresh (PLEASE KEEP THE GREASE FRESH). and the links just YUM. This is a must. I will be back and this might be replacing Uncle J's. Okay so here is my review : the staff is very ( I had the chance to speak to the son very nice and humble young man) courteous and energetic.. the restaurant it is self is a great reflections of the owners (Very welcoming, clean, friendly and bright) with throw back arcade games to play while you wait for your order .... now to the food I ordered rib tips sauce on the side, macaroni and cheese and mixed greens....thank good for additional sides other than fries (even though orders do come with fresh fries cut as well, but additional options are great)...the tips are good but my opinion needs more, the sauce is good (I swear it's captain Curts hickory sauce) the macaroni and cheese is cheesy but bland, the greens on the other hand are delicious (cooked with smoked turkey) went great with my cornbread (The Slab should add that as a bread option)...The Slab is a great fresh spot in the south shore area that brings great, service, atmosphere, choices and better flavor than others. read more

Giving 2 stars because it's something different for 71st street, the customer service is great and it's nice and clean in the waiting lobby. The sauce is disgusting, which all of the food was covered in. If they revamp the sauce, it'll be good bbq. The hot links are huge and hot but not good at all. The rib tips were good but very bony. They put fries under the tips which I didn't expect. I thought that since they sell fries separately the order of tips would be just tips. This was our first time here. I had read good reviews about their food and I really wanted it to be good because it's close to my house. Whenever I get bbq I always have the fries wrapped separately so they can't soak up all the sauce. Now that I know I'll give them another try. What I really enjoyed was their other sides. This is my second time to Slab BBQ, 1918 East 71st, in Chicago! The service and the meal were quite excellent. The first time (I did not pre-order) was about three months ago. Although I did not pre-order the first time, lots of folks were coming in to pick up their orders. I ordered a lot, but only waited about ten minutes, maybe 15 minutes. Since we were feeding a few folks we tried a little of everything, the slab of ribs, a large order of the tips, the chicken wings, spaghetti, greens, etcetera, etcetera! I have to say, the mild sauce was really delicious. The ribs were tender and tasty! This time I pre-ordered and got in and out quickly. I think I spent $45 bucks! Again, the food was really good! They have not disappointed us in the least!!! We are excited to have a great BBQ restaurant in the community, Again! My sister-in-law is coming in for Christmas and can't wait to visit SlabBBQ! I kept hearing about the delicious food at the Slab, so I stopped in to try the place out. Everything was amazing! You could smell the food pulling up to the restaurant. The place was clean and the workers were very friendly. I just knew once I got home with my order, the ribs would be tough to chew. I was so WRONG! I've been here a couple of times when I didn't want to go all the way west to I-57, my fav rib joint. The meat is very tender and tasty. I get the sauce on the side because it's too sweet for me. The service was excellent. Just this past Sunday, they passed out samples of mixed greens, mac n cheese, and potato salad. I will def order sides next time as each one was delicious. read more

i have been to the slab barbeque resturant 4 times each time it has been a delightful experience. the customer service is excellant. they are a traditional barbeque resturant. they have a wonderful fresh turkey burger barbequed with all the trimmings (well worth the price) and they will barbeque fresh a 1/2 of chicken and will fry 4 jumbo chicken wings and add barbeque sauce. the french fries are fresh cut cook to perfection. they have a mild sauce which is very good and a hot barbeque sauce that is sassy and spicy with flavor. you can also mix the mild and hot barbeque sauces for a different sensation. they also carry the traditional rib tibs and slabs. it is a fresh new must try resturant in the south shore area. read more
