We wanted to try a restaurant on our way to the beach. The Sloop was good choice. I had the plain chicken wings, they were kind of small but good. My kids each had bbq and hot wings and they were bigger than mine. Place would be cool to have drinks but it's small place so the noise level picks up quick. By far the best hole in the wall place my husband and I have eaten at. Recommended by a local we decided to try it. They have a full bar, but nothing on tap. It's all bottles or cans. We started with the Buffalo party fries. I love Buffalo sauce so I had to try it. If was a double order of fries with shredded chicken tossed in Buffalo sauce, topped with mozzarella and either ranch or blue cheese. I could have just eaten that and I would have been great. I tried the cheesesteak. The small one was huge! It came with homemade chips. I thought it tasted great. My husband got the cheeseburger and said he was not disappointed. This place is mostly a local dive and we love it that way! Just had beef cheesesteak (best in town). Never any complaints here at the Sloop but if I could have them change one thing, it would be the fries. If they could make them like 5 guys that would be awesome. We discovered this little gem looking for another restaurant, tucked under a bridge span of the highway Decided to try it and so glad we did. Good service, fast delivery. The drinks we ordered -a margarita on the rocks and a Mojito drink were just ok, but the food was delicious and unexpected. We ordered stuffed mushrooms (divine!! and rich), Caesar salad (this was just average and dressing tasted bottled), the Reuben egg rolls and a little garlic butter scampi shrimp skillet that came with toast points for dipping. The scrimp scampi was so good I could have licked the cast iron..lol. Extremely fresh shrimp, as expected in the Gulf, and a butter-wine sauce with little burst roasted cherry tomatoes and onions. Excellent! The egg rolls were prepared and presented in an elegant way and so flavorful, served with an orange tangy dressing drizzled on top. The presentation of the food was beautiful, too. Someone is rocking it out in this kitchen! *Loved the food here, but the environment was kinda loud. A crowded sportsbar with locals type of place, so keep that in mind when choosing this place to dine in. We really liked it! read more

It seems to be a local favorite. It got backed as we were leaving. Okay but probably won't be back. Limited menu, no outdoor seating (when we were there) which was a main point on why we choose it. Prices were okay on par with beach food. The Italian was good, no side options besides the homemade chips (I am sure were fine but I dont like chips). Loud bar atmosphere. My meatball sandwich was good but the meatballs themselves were sort of bland (but I'm nitpicking now - probably because my Italian husband can make them better...) Loved the food, the service and the friendliness of the local folks. Had the twin burger and fries. It came with fresh cut fries and homemade potato chips too. Burger was hot and delicious and the chips were crisp and not overly cooked. We will definitely be back! read more

Hello from PHILLY!!! We are in town for vacation and had to stop by to show our support. The cheesesteaks are right on...true Philly cheesesteaks. This place is very good!! Love the service too. They get their rolls shipped in from Philly. You will not find a better cheesesteak outside of philly than this place. We came with 14 people and they were able to get us seated fairly quickly given how busy they were. We met the owner, really nice guy. You gotta try it if you really want a true philly cheesesteak. We have visited The Sloop several times in the past, and usually enjoyed it--especially the nachos which we have considered to be some of the best we have had anywhere. No more. We ordered nachos on March 17, and got a plate of chips. More than half of the chips literally had nothing on them. Those that did had such skimpy topings that they we virtually dry. One hopes for better days. read more

What a great little gem of a restaurant tucked away under Highway 59 on the south side of the Intercoastal Waterway. Great lively & fun atmosphere, mostly locals, which speaks very well for the anticipated quality of the food, and almost everyone, staff & customers, know each other. Our food was outstanding. I had the Italian Sausage & Peppers, and my fishing buddy had the South Foley Cheesesteak & Provolone. The picture of my empty & clean plate 'after' I finished says much for the quality of my meal! This place was cool. I'm a sucker for anywhere with live music off the beaten path. Local atmosphere with tasty food and drinks. Being from NJ, anytime I find a place that serves Cheesesteaks I'm in. I enjoyed the toasted roll, which tasted a lot like home. However, the cheesesteak was slightly underwhelming. we tried the cheesesteak with American cheese as well as one with whiz - definitely don't recommend the wiz as it has no flavor. We also ordered a basket of fries which were so thin and crispy we thought they were Pix Stix. Nice enjoyable band outback, but you have to get through a very out dated, family restaurant bar. A lot of knickknacks on the wall like they've been around for years. A lot of locals which is always good to see. I try not to go the tourist route. Seemed like the spot to take the family on a Friday night. Stop by this place and park yourself in an Adirondack chair out back, grab a drink and put your feet in the sand. read more

Atmospheric local dive bar/restaurant. Not lots of seating, but the food is worth it! We sat on the patio in the heat, but overall very good experience. The live band was a nice touch as well. Some of the staff were helpful, but others seemed more occupied chatting amongst themselves. read more

Came here while on vacation in Alabama and my overall impression is that I am less than impressed to an extent. My Philly Cheesesteak was delicious, my Wife's on the other hand was made incorrectly amongst multiple other mistakes in the orders at my table. My Wife ordered the Philly cheesesteak egg rolls with no peppers and hers came loaded with peppers. My mother in law got a meatball sub and the meatballs tasted very disgusting very unfresh, so much so that she had to get it replaced with something else. Best stuffed mushrooms I ever had!!! Must have them!!! Next was the Philly Cheesesteak. You can specify what you want on it, mushrooms, onions, peppers, type of cheese etc. absolutely fantastic. After a FUN afternoon & night at The Flora Bama for the annual Polar Bear Plunge...this was a great idea for the slight hangover I had...LOL. Tucked away under the bridge going into Gulf Shores; this place is a hidden gem. With 9 TV's you can see the most popular football games. They treat you like family around here so take care of your wait staff. Great food good times. The owner is from Philly so the cheesesteaks are great! The sloop dog is a must try.
