The best way that I can describe the sloop is, if you lived in the area, this would be either a regular hangout spot or a place you ate lunch several times a week. My family and I eat here a lot while on vacation, usually for lunch, but it's definitely a place that has a really good atmosphere. I recommend either the daily special, chili dogs or Philly cheesesteak. Either way, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Every time we visit they make us feel like we're a part of the family. We miss you guys! read more

I visited with 4 teenage boys during a mini spring break trip for lunch. This place did not disappoint. Great food, quick service, cozy atmosphere and strong drinks. The gentleman that waited on us was extremely engaging with the table and cracking jokes with the boys. I was not sure what I wanted and was stuck between the Italian sandwich and party fries... he picked for me and let me tell you.. the Italian sandwich was delicious! The red onions and balsamic vinegar gave this traditional deli sandwich a flavorful twist. My son had the saucy meatball sandwich and I think he finished it in a new record time. Other menu items enjoyed by the table were the grilled chicken sandwich which was cooked perfectly and the chicken Caesar salad... I honestly think everyone cleared their plates. If I am ever back in the area, I will definitely return. read more

I believe the owner served us. the chicken for the salad was alright, a few too many chewy pieces. the beef egg rolls were loaded with cabbage & very little beef. the philly was average. the price was insane for what we got. $70 later.... the most expensive place we've been in gulf shores for very mediocre food. read more

So we're down in Gulf Shores and we hit the "top spots" and we starting asking where the locals go for a drink. We hear "The Sloop" and directions were "it's under the bridge" I knew I had to see it. If you like to hang out in dives where everybody knows your name, the drinks are good and you feel at home then make this your first stop. PS: nothing wrong with taking a Uber home. read more

We loved The Sloop! My mom (70), my daughter (7), and I (45) went while visiting Gulf Shores. I only mention the ages because each one of us left full and happy. We had the Sizzlin' Shrimp- amazing, stuffed mushrooms- so delish, the Italiano (get the large and take 1/2 home, it's just as good later, and the Twin Burger- it's so messy you know it's fantastic. The staff are genuine and kind. Although my Indiana born and raised daughter was shocked to hear my mom called "babe" We might still go back this week before we leave! read more

We stopped at the Sloop during a family trip and softball tournament. What a quaint little bar! The staff were very friendly and great service. The food was delicious and beautiful presentation. Amazing hidden gem in Gulf Shores. Absolutely best authentic Philly Cheesesteak I've ever had. I recommend you get it with Cheese Whiz and all mushrooms, onions, bell peppers and hot chili peppers. For most, a half sandwich will be enough. The cheese is cooked in with the meat so it's not like Cheese Whiz on top. Oh, and try the Buffalo Chicken Fries... it's why you only need half a sandwich. read more

This place is horrible, don't eat here. Kidding! This place is a hidden gem! My go to are the wings, probably the best I've ever had. They are the small ones, but the best. Now I know what everyone was talking about and finally found the place. Loved the ambience... when I walked in just about everyone was enjoying a beer w/ a Philly cheesesteak. Guess they are known for them so I called in my order to p/u. It was probably one of the best Philly cheesesteaks I have ever had. And I loved the homemade chips. But what really impressed me beyond the quality food was being greeted when I walked in and asked by my name! Then within minutes I had my lunch and was on my way... will definitely come back for a Philly cheesesteak where I can also enjoy a beer with my sandwich. Don't go here! Please don't! This is one of the last little hidden gems for us locals. And to be honest if you start coming also it will get even more crowded. The food is awesome, the drinks are always just right and the servers always have a smile. The owner growls a little now and then but I can't blame them some people just don't get it. Wait your turn get your drinks food relax inside or outside listen to the music and just have a good time. If you're at the bar tell the them "Bald headed Fat Man" sent ya aka. This is one of my favorite places on the island! The vibe is very much dive bar/hole in the wall/where the locals go. The food is absolutely incredible and so uniquely different from all the other small joints that only offer fried stuff. The drinks are always cold. The music out back is a blast. Jhenya, Jazzy, and Juggernaut are the best bartenders on the island! Jamie and BR have the restaurant business down to a T. This spot is one you do not want to miss!! read more
