We love The Smith. We've been there multiple times and it's always pretty much spot on. We were greeted by nice hosts at the stand and our waiter was very friendly and accommodating and helpful with the menu. The food is always terrific. Flavors are great, food is fresh and well prepared. Just a few suggestions. The drinks, although incredibly well crafted seem on the smaller side as well as the Ribeye. We eat out at steakhouses quite frequently and thought the size of the ribeye for the price should have been a little larger. I've have been to multiple locations and had great experience but must admit the dinning experience at their 2nd ave location was nothing short of disappointing- especially after great last experiences. We sat outside and the service was noticeably slower than those dining inside. After coming to our table 3 times within 10 minutes of being seated, the waiter seemed confused that we hadn't decided what starter/meal we wanted. After receiving our drinks and receiving our starter we didn't see the waiter for another ~40 minutes! He was nowhere to be found outside. Eventually we asked another waiter to put in our order and our original waiter rushed outside upset that we didn't call him. Bizarre to say the least. Food: 9/10. We started with the chips with blue cheese fondue. Picture this: a mountain of chips covered in mouthwatering blue cheese fondue. The aroma of the blue cheese was enticing from the moment it came to the table and the taste was a delightful balance of creamy, salty, and slightly pungent notes. This velvety-smooth and luscious cheese sauce was to die for!! A must have starter! Our mains included two of the Smith Bar Steaks. A lean 9 ounces of tender and flavorful beef cooked to perfection and accompanied by a pile of fries. These came with undeniably good chimichurri sauce. I decided to try out the smith after being recommended by a friend. The smith is so big and have a urban American decor. There's lots of seating, which is good for large groups! I found my shrimp with squid ink tagliatelle to be kind of meh, but this spot really made it up for it with excellent service and outdoor options. Hunter and Juan are assets to the establishment and could work in any high end place in NYC. I would put up with the very average food just to experience their hospitality. Still one of my favorite spots in the city. They recently changed the menu and took off the Pot Pie. Before you all start freaking out, I talked with management and they assured me that it will be coming back after summer and it is a seasonal item. They added a lot of vegetarian options to the menu. This place now caters to everyone's eating and drinking pleasure. If you have never had a foodgasm before, their Rigatoni Ala Vodka will give you one. Cooked the perfect level of al dente this dish is one you can't pass up no matter what diet you are on. Their "spicy salmon tartare" is really a Salmon hamachi. Very good but needs chopsticks. They are going to get chopsticks in soon. The "Crispy Sesame Calamari" is a bit too spicy if you aren't expecting it. The sauce looks like spicy mayo but has a much bigger kick to it. I wasn't a big fan because I was too busy drinking water to really get an appreciation for it. The ambiance is really nice and is a great spot to take a date. 10/10 would recommend for anyone who likes a good espresso martini and good food. They gave us a bottle of sparkling and tap water for the table. The server was quick to come for a drink order. Cocktails were about $17 each. We got Mac and cheese and calamari to start. The Mac and cheese had a good crust on top and was creamy. The calamari was a bit small but tasty with some Korean flavors. I got a pot of mussels with a side salad (which I substituted for fries). To drink, I was told they were known for their Gin cocktails, so I tried one of them (the name escapes me, but it was purple and garnished with an orange), it was okay (I'm not a Gin guy, but 'when in Rome..'). It did have a little of a kick but it did not satisfy my craving for sushi that early afternoon. Royal Sangria- made in house with a mix of different drinks. It stays true to its name offering a delicious complex fruity alcoholic drink. Bloody Mary- I've always hated the idea of a Bloody Mary but trying this I'm now convinced it's a good drink. It was spicy and tasty. We were not offered a non spicy version and my sister was not able to finish it but I was able to enjoy it down to the last sip. Be prepared for a kick. Shrimp and grits- keep in mind. You only get 4 large shrimp for the price you pay. However I will say it was tasty and sure to fill you up. I personally would prefer more protein but I was full by the end. Benedict Johnny- cornbread is not too sweet and complements the chicken sausage and hollandaise sauce. It was overall great and would order again. Also kept us full. Overall the smiths is a great brunch spot. Would maybe skip on the salmon tartar. Had lunch with two colleagues yesterday and enjoyed our leisurely meal together. We were seated in the back in a quiet booth, not that many people in the restaurant so sound was not an issue for our work conversation (I understand at night it can be quite loud). We each had the kale/quinoa salad, one plain, one with chicken, mine with salmon. A very good salad, although next time I might ask for less ricotta salata (or on the side) and dressing on the side as it was more heavily dressed than I prefer. Went to a Sunday brunch here with my friends and it was pretty good. For coffee we got cappuccinos which were ok nothing special and a mocha which was delicious. For mains we got the French toast which was crunchy on the outside and soft inside without being soggy which was incredible, the caramelized bananas were a no from me though as I didn't enjoy the soggy texture, definitely get this if you plan to split it with the group otherwise it's very heavy and borderline sickly sweet for one person. The rancheros egg scramble was the least exciting dish, instead of being soft and fluffy the eggs were dense almost rubbery and flavorless, having a corn tortilla underneath the eggs made it difficult to eat and didn't add anything to the dish. For the price I'm not sure why they skimped on the avocado. The buttermilk pancakes were the highlight of this entire experience, they're the reason I'd return. They're fluffy but dense in a way that gives them flavor, the compote and lemon mascarpone balance out the sweetness and they're easily the best thing on their brunch menu as you can see from other reviews. As for ambience, it's like a noisy bar but lit up and with food. Don't go there for a date or deep conversations as you will borderline screaming to hear each other particularly on a Sunday afternoon. read more

Service was spot on and attentive. The menu had a lot of offerings to choose from. They have a full bar. My Bloody Mary was perfect! I had avocado toast and it was amazing!! My friend and I met up for a weekend girls' brunch date and we had a great time here! The Smith really reminded me how amazing the weekend brunch scene are in the city. It comes with cheddar jalapeño grits, baked eggs, four HUGE shrimps, and topped with shoestring potatoes, also served on a skillet. I loved the buttery flavor of the grits and the shrimp was perfectly seasoned and grilled! The shoestring potatoes topping was interesting but did not do much for me though.
