I went to get my smog checked and the worker told me I failed because a valve was broken off and my engine light was on. I fixed the valve and wanted to retest that day, but the worker told me it needed to be driven 100 miles before I brought it back. I got a second smog test at a different location and they told me that someone had tampered with a different valve other than the one I fixed. The worker at the different location asked me if I tested my smog recently and I told him about my visit at Smog King and we came to the conclusion that Smog King tampered with my other valve and didn't tell me about it then. He basically wanted me to come back and have it retested just to fail again. I don't recommend going to this location because I feel like I got scammed. read more

The only reason I have one star is to write this review. Smog King should be out of buisness due to it's bad/corrupt practices. Some how they always get an ad in the coupon book. I sent my 17 year old daughter to get her car smogged not knowing there was an engine light on. They acknowledged the fact that the light was on but said it could pass. Ten minutes later they tell her it failed due to the engine light being on. Charged her the smog check fee and said once she get's what ever was wrong fixed she could come back for a second look having to pay the full cost again. I couldn't believe they did a child like that and told her never to go back there and that we would report their actions to the Better Business Bureau. I found an honest Smog Shop of Enterprise. Warning to people who need a Smog. Smog King are Crookes and I hope they get closed down. read more

I've been coming to this shop for years with all of our vehicles & was quite disappointed this time,the tech knew there was a faulty vacuum hose & yet still ran the smog check only to tell me the emissions part passed,but the car failed the smog inspection because of the vacuum line issue,of course I can have it fixed & then come back for another smog check & pay another fee,they used to be more honest & tell you what needs to be fixed BEFORE running the actual smog insp,long story short,I fixed the issue & brought the car to Hi-Tech Smog which will be the subject of a more positive review.... read more

Dishonest and very rude. Did the visual and ran the test. Came back and said my truck failed the visual and charged me $30.00. I ended up at this little certification station after trying a few other of the larger businesses. I was a little confused by the area seeing as it is sort of hidden between two other businesses. The woman who helped me was polite in her own way, she seemed sort of standoffish at first, but as conversation continued she was very engaged and I enjoyed spending a few moments talking with her. The technician put my car through the tests and from the time I walked in to the time I left, I only spent about 25 minutes here. The first place I stopped at had a wait time of 2 hours just to get my car seen! I also was genuinely surprised to find the price was extremely reasonable, I only paid $35+tax whereas the other store was charging $68 for the test alone. I already know my car will pass emissions test, I certainly didn't want to have to pay a large amount to prove it! All in all, I enjoyed my experience at this company, the reasonable prices alone are enough to take me back again. read more

Great place to get your car smogged! Not fancy, but straight to the point, definitely done quickly. I went on a Sunday, not realizing it was about 45 min after closing time. Jag was just getting ready to leave, but he stayed and smogged my 2006 Ford even though it was after closing. I was in and out in under 15 min! Jag was great, no unnecessary frivolous chatter, but didn't feel like I was being rushed out the door either. Definitely will use Smog King for future smog checks (and one of the least expensive places in Fairfield)! read more

We have a 12 year old subaru. Took it here for a smog check. With a coupon it was$30; however it failed the first time because the check engine light had been turn off after mechanical work the day before. Apparently you have to drive 100 miles after that before a smog check. So it cost another $30 to check it a second time after driving the required miles. Was able to get the work done quickly both times on a Saturday morning. read more

so i have had 3 cars there, 10 year old kia amanti with so much plastic covering the motor he could not have "inspected it" but a very clean car and it passed in minutes. car 2 a 16 year old jetta that i just bought with all smog liability on me, failed visual inspection because the vacuum line to the brake master cylinder 1 way check valve had cracked so the previous owner glued it together and he noticed...ok no problem so i went to a junk yard bought a used one went back and the guy that explained what was wrong did such a poor job they were all scratching their heads including the same guy till i got the old part out of the trunk and showed him then he remembered otherwise they were going to fail me again. and i still question the vacuum line to the brakes, but "its attached to the emissions system" you mean the plenum or intake manifold? annoyed but hey it passed. now for the 86 ranger. two years ago i sank alot of money in the truck ( about 800.00. 4x4, good off road vehicle and worth it ) all the smog stuff is in tacked and works well. it does have an after market fan wired in the hood because when i am off road in 110+ degree heat i like airflow over the entire engine, "but" he saw that and instantly said it was wired inline with the original wiring which that will cause it to fail, but its not and when i showed the wire from the battery thru the firewall pointing at the switch that controls it he just kept bitching about it. fine i will go to the same place i went two years ago (very reputable shop, lots of articles on the wall, and community achievements etc). so he goes to pull my truck out with the sensor still in the exhaust (remember me now?) i stop him he grinds my starter a couple times trying to back up? trucks running dude, oh yea you cant hear it. anyway so i am trying to get the attention of the dude who checked me in who is on a call about something that happened to him to cause him to be late today with who knows who, mean time the tek is yelling for me to just leave. no i want to hear from phone guy i am free to leave and when he finally nods his head i get in my truck and hear the tek call me an asshole, really you turd sucking piece of dung button masher. i did back up and tell him i would bring the smog cert from the next place he just kept saying no. so place number two for the ranger. explained the fan and that its wired separate from factory fan system which is a mechanical fan belt driven fan anyway,he just said that's the difference from mechanics and "teks". my truck did pass visual, these are the guys that told me two years ago that when i replace the cats they have to have the california numbers laser etched in them, dont get generic. passed with good numbers. read more

I went there the day after Christmas. Many other places were closed and I was selling a car and needed the smog check. I pulled the car in the lot and was helped quickly. After the tech checked it, I was told it failed due to the timing was way off. I thought that was a little strange, since I hadn't heard of that before. I spent half my day looking for someone to re-set the timing. Finally I headed back to Vallejo, where I live, and decided to go to Vallejo Smog Center (previous customer there and EXCELLENT SERVICE) to see what they say. Rich, the owner, tells me straight up that on the year car I had (1999 Nissan Sentra) they don't need the timing checked. So, he hooks it up to smog, and again it fails! It fails because a very small hose to the EGR valve has a hole in it. An easy $8 fix. I take it back to Vallejo Smog the next day and it passes with flying colors! Smog King did not say anything about the hose, instead failed it because the "timing" was off, which does not get checked anyway. I feel totally ripped off of my $30, but more importantly, my half day wasted trying to get someone to check the "timing." In my opinion, this place is not a good business to go to. Rich spotted the hose problem on the visual inspection and on the mechanical it passed the first time from Vallejo Smog. Upon replacing the hose, the numbers dramatically improved. read more

Called to get a smog front counter person was very helpful and polite and parked truck inside to get a smog.as i was waiting 3 more late costumers came in for a smog.the smog tech then was cursing and started having a temper tantrum.the costumer that was standing next to me said what's his problem .i am and Mercedes benz factory trained master technician i set timing per toyota specification jumping diagnostic pins i watched him check timing and he did not jump the pins and failed the smog.he marked catalyst failed after they smoged car last time with that same catalyst when i asked why he failed it ,he was rude and said you think that i am making this up with a attitude. The costumer that was next jumped in his car and left (some thing i should have done ) counter person was still very polite and said call in tomorrow to try and make this right i will never take my cars there again.costumer service is what drives a business not individual egos read more

the tech doesn't seem to be knowledgeable enough. the tech check the timing first. my car was not on the correct timing specification for the car but the tech ran the smog test any way. guest what, of course it failed. i had it corrected then came back and had to pay extra for re-test. read more
