Stopped by here a few days ago to check it out. I ordered the Cubano sandwich and my husband ordered the brisket sandwich. The sandwiches are ala carte and on't come with a side, which is fine, but the size of the sandwiches was a bit small for the price we paid. I've had many Cubano sandwiches as it is one of favorites, but I would say this was the smallest Cubano I've ever had served on a small brioche bun. It did taste very good, but definitely left me hungry and i'm not a big eater. My husband said his sandwich was soggy from the BBQ sauce but the brisket was good. The drink selection is quite limited. We really wanted to like this place, but for the money, it just wasn't worth it. And....we totally understand that the cost and prices of food have gone up, but we'll probably not be coming back. read more

My family and I have been to Vail Headquarters many times and have never noticed the lil hidden eateries inside the Chophouse. We decided to try a lil at each place and the Smok'd hog is hands down the best of the 4! We went around noon and the ribs had just come off the smoker so we definitely had to try them. We got the full rack with Mac & cheese and baked beans. The ribs were fall off the bone tender with a sweet and spicy bbq sauce on the side. I so much wanted to like this place. Ordering was easy enough. I ordered a side of cole slaw, a side of beans and a sandwich with no sauce. They gave me a side of sauce. (I didn't care for it.) Beans and cole slaw were served in paper boats. The whole thing on a metal tray. Meat and bread in the sandwich were pretty good. I didn't end up eating all the bread. Beans were tasty, but the paper boat didn't last too long, so bean juice started leaking all over. The cole slaw was a huge disappointment. It had a grainy texture. I can't put my finger on it. It wasn't as gritty as sand, but like there was some powder sprinkled over everything that didn't absorb. It tasted strange, too. Why didn't I like it? Big social eating at shared tables is not my fave, but we were a big group, so we hijacked a table for ourselves. No fountain drinks. Girl who took my order would not engage with me. I had questions and she grunted out one-word answers. Finally got to try this place and it was good. Went on a Saturday afternoon around two so there was no wait and everything was available on the menu. We tried the three meat three side combo. Brisket was fall apart tender with a good crust pulled pork had great flavor and the hot links were huge and just a hint of spicy not overwhelming. The corn bread had great flavor not too sweet potato salad lacked seasoning and flavor it was just OK the greens were not prepared how I like my greens they were just OK. I'm not sure any restaurant that serves there food on paper bowls deserves 5 stars, but the food is reeeally good here and the fact that it doesn't come out in 20 seconds after ordering implies that there is some amount of preparation that's happening. I've eaten here a half dozen times. It's always terrific. For me, the brisket and the Mac n Cheese are definitely not to be missed. Holy BBQ, batman! This place is delicious! It's tucked into the Cookhouse food hall and is the furthest booth to the right. Do. Not. Miss. Them. I ordered the special which was a rib sandwich and it was humongous! They definitely give you a ton of value for your buck here. The sandwich itself was delicious - the meat perfectly cooked and seasoned. I really liked their BBQ sauce (I love a good condiment)! I got the mac and cheese as a side and it was decadent. There were a few cheeses mixed in and it made for a great bite. It was so rich I couldn't finish it, but it easily could be a shareable portion! This place is wicked good! I judge bbq places by the brisket and this exceeds most I've had. I ordered the 1 Meat-1 Side, brisket with potato salad. As you can see by the photo, it's exquisite brisket. The meat and the flavorful edges are just crazy good. So many yum. The barbecue sauce is good, but you kind of don't need it since the food is really flavorful on its own, a mark of good eats. The seating here is good, with lots of choices as to where to sit since it's a "Food Hall", with 4 mini-restaurants from which to pick. But pick this one. I felt very relaxed and welcome to just eat, noodle on my laptop and enjoy. I cracked open my laptop to get some stuff done but wound up writing this review first. Well deserved for sure. If I ever got the death penalty for slaying it at life, this might well be my choice for a last meal. The combination of the environment, the food, the service is a definite go-to for me from now on. OMG!!! The brisket melts in your mouth!!! And the chicken is so moist and delicious!!! I like the beans, too, which is saying a lot as I am not a bean lover. But meat was unbelievable the buns the sauce they put on the Kansas City pork was unbelievable very small place hard to find it's next to the cold store on highway 79 in Temecula. I go to Temecula fairly often but have yet to visit Vail Headquarters. My friend likes going here so we decided to grab lunch. I was already excited when we started walking up, everything on the grounds is well maintained, there are many choices, and the general feel and atmosphere is positive. I took a look at the different food options and BBQ looked and sounded good so I chose to get my lunch from The Smok'd Hog. The guy taking my order was very nice. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and mac and cheese. The taste of the food was great but the execution was a problem. The mac and cheese was barely warm. That isn't a huge deal, I can deal with that but when paired with my second issue it became a problem. My sandwich was crazy soggy. The bread turned to mush and no longer held the sandwich together whatsoever. I love BBQ sauce and that wasn't even the problem, there was actually (sadly) not that much sauce on it. The issue was that the meat was so wet that the juice and grease soaked the bread. I like juicy meat but this was ridiculous and made the sandwich pretty much inedible after just a few bites. read more

We finally made it in to eat during the Ramble on the Ranch event last week. I usually stick with pulled pork and slaw as my first meal at a new bbq place. Today wasn't any different. I thought the pork was bomb! Good color, flavor, and I had a choice of 4 sauces to go with it. The slaw wasn't my style, too much cabbage, but still good. Tried this place today for the first time and was super impressed with the food. The girl who took my order was super friendly and welcoming. It took a little longer that I was expecting to get our sandwich, but it was worth the wait. Wow, did we luck out, luckily on Sunday night we tried this place because on Mondays they are closed. What a great find, as our daughter had told us to check this unique historical area out. This place was not bad. I got the two meat- brisket, chicken, with corn bread and Mac and cheese. The chicken was nice it had good flavor. The brisket was solid, great smoke flavor and crust. The cornbread was good. It was coated with sugar or something so it was a little sweet. I prefer a buttery flavored corn bread but it was not bad. Now I'm not going to lie when I go to a new bbq spot I always have to try their Mac and cheese. I judge hard on the Mac and cheese. Theirs was okay. Really did not have much flavor to it. I am only writing this review on 2 side dishes, their Mac-n-cheese and baked beans. The Mac n cheese was basically elbow macaroni with a "light" flavorless cheese flavored sauce. Don't look for the real thing, this is quick boil the pasta and add "nacho cheese-like" sauce. The baked beans were also flavorless, no deep brown sugary sauce thickness, these were loose, a bit "hard" textured pinto beans, very bland.
