    The Pearl Panini and Chips!
    Mia H.

When my friend and I came here for lunch to chat over some coffee, we came at a bad time as the kitchen was closed since the staff member was on a break. Nonetheless, we still waited and got drinks instead! They have a wide variety of drinks and I also noticed that they had seasonal drinks, which looked amazing. I got a hot chocolate (which I normally never get, but I was craving something sweet, without caffeine) and it was perfect! It was rich and chocolate-y without being an overwhelming sweet. My friends latte was good as well. :) I got the pearl panini for lunch and it was great. A perfect savory and sweet sandwich with the turkey and brie balancing with the apple. The chips were your standard bag of chips and I'm not a fan of pickles so I couldn't tell you that (but it looked good!). Overall, a nice spot to grab a quick bite but I wasn't a huge fan of it as a hangout/chatting spot as it felt too busy (being a hotel lobby) and there wasn't much seating.

A lovely place for grabbing coffee, drinks and studying/working too. Their rooftop is amazing too, lovely view of the downtown. Got their house favorite Lavender latte and it was good.

Stopped here for some coffee (we weren't staying at the hotel). We got their vanilla latte and their dirty chai. The dirty chai was spicy so if you like it that way this is for you! It was fun and unique without being too strong. The vanilla latte was sweet and tasty. Would definitely get again. Their snickerdoodle cookie slapped! Soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside! Special shout out to Andrew who was crushing orders like no one's business while also being probably the most pleasant and happy person during our trip. This is a cute spot adjacent to the hotel lobby. Fun and chic. Can't say anything about parking as we walked here but seemed like street parking wasn't bad.

This was a really great find by the honey on a day when we had a ton of time before our flight and a couple pieces of luggage to carry round. Enter in The Society Cafe. We ended up getting a few herbal iced teas as well as some canned cider, soda, lacroix, and some tasty coconut drop pastries which we were able to bring up onto the mostly empty rooftop. Essentially killing time until a reasonable hour for us to leave to the airport. The rooftop is lovely and if you're visiting, you should definitely ask to see it. There were spots that had shade and quite a few spots with sun, so it was an all around very lovely seating space surrounded with pampas grass. The Society Cafe is technically a hotel with attached bar/cafe and it boasts a few rooms and some hostel style bunks, but we originally chose it for the fact it carried coconut milk. However, some places find it hard to keep it in stock and tend to run out and the Society Cafe was no different - so I ended up just getting a few teas and sodas. While the bathroom is downstairs, we usually just ordered more drinks when we needed the facilities, and everything considered it was a really nice way to spend a few hours. We will definitely keep them in mind when we're back staying in the area!

A grilled cheese sandwich after an exhausting day

Stopped in for a quick bite after a long, exhausting day. (No free parking nearby that I could find, bummer.) The minute I walked in, the coziness of the fireplace and velvet chairs had me feeling more relaxed. I noticed a display on the wall next to the door advertising a wide variety of sightseeing activities around the city, which I will definitely reference next time near the start of my adventure. The staff were so lovely and helpful to this first-timer. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich (only $10!) and was shown to the rooftop seating area within 10 minutes. It was chilly out, but the heaters kept it tolerable while I ate. The view was spectacular and their music choice was perfect. Definitely on my must-visit list for future Portland trips!

Vibe is nice! Food is okay. Coffee is good. This would be a great place to work on a laptop for a bit or read a book mid-day. When we went there was pretty much one person making everything , so be patient! It's a walk-up and order at the counter and then they call you to come get your food place. Kind of in a sketchy area though.

I stayed in the Society and the cafe was a great pit stop everyday. The baristas are super friendly and go out of their way to make you feel special. One morning I had a delicious egg sandwich. Add the pesto. Very fresh and flavorful. Coffee drinks are served rapidly. Really nice touch inside a very cool hostel.

My friend and I wandered in looking for some coffee and as other reviews note, there really isn't a menu in here? For a second, I couldn't tell if they even made lattes since the only signage noted espresso and drip coffee. My friend grabbed an 8 oz latte an I went with a 12 oz vanilla latte -- came out to $11 total so not too bad, particularly for the quality. It's just one person behind the counter making the drinks, but he displayed a great deal of care between the syrups, latte art, and sneaker decals on top. My drink was perfectly hot, not too sweet, and had a great flavor overall. I would absolutely go back for another latte and to grab some beans as well. This place is small, there's a VERY small amount of limited seating; definitely not a sit and sip your coffee for hours type of spot. Loved the sneakers displayed inside though. Overall, a great neighborhood spot - check it out if you're in the area!

Java Man is the clear winner. open at 7:30am, you don't need to look anywhere else. As a guest at the Hoxton Hotel, I was happy to find this nice little coffee place off the hotel…read morelobby as the "real" (local independent artsy looking) local place around the corner I noted last night doesn't open until 8. Even though the 5 star rating was based on just one review I thought I would give it a try as the all of the drinks coming out while I was thinking about it looked pretty good. The basic 2-shot latte was pretty good. I'm a coffee snob so I save 5 star ratings for places with amazing coffee that really makes coffee a transcendent experience or places with pretty good espresso drinks at places with consistently good service, so I'd probably just give this place 4 1/2 stars on coffee alone. However the atmosphere for a little spot is reallly nice, with interesting books on the shelf on the back wall and real artwork by local artists on the wall. Plus the spot opens up into the lobby of the Hoxton Hotel, which of course has that trendy but classy Hoxton aesthetic. Also a plus, the place has ceramic mugs and cups, but as most folks are getting coffee on the way out, you will get your drink in a paper cup unless you ask. These other factors justify bumping it up to a full 5 stars (especially as Hotel coffee spots frequently suck). Note this is a one person operation, so some patience may be necessary. Hours: At the time of this writing, Yelp had this spot's hours conflated with a similarly named restaurant in the lobby. It's actually open for 7 to 12 every day.

Weird by a Mexican (-owned?) place! I don't know why this young woman had so much hate toward us, we kept wondering if it was because we speak Spanish inside the establishment, or because we hugged each other, or because we asked for pastries which they had none, or because I asked questions about getting a Mocha, which is not on the menu. The business is small inside, only 4 visitors at a time, maybe she got upset that we came in when there were 2 customers already in? It was rainy outside though! Initially, my wife and I were super excited and chatty (in Spanish, our native language) about the opportunity to support this business and waited patiently until it was our turn. We had lots of questions since the menu is vague and limited, compared to any other coffee shop, and there were no pastries on display. The attendant was short and using a rude tone when responding to my wife (As in: "But how do you want it?" in response to "I'd like a latte"). To top it off, she asked us to move to make space for another customer, when we had been already been patient with her and the prior customers, to read the menu, which she had already told me was unavailable. So weird! I didn't tip. We didn't even say "Thanks" upon leaving. Damn you Instagram.
