I found the coffee to be pretty average. I was hoping to try a few of their specialty drinks, like the Vietnamese coffee, but they were sold out when I visited, so I ended up going with a latte instead. I liked that they use Krakow organic syrups, but I was a little disappointed that I couldn't really taste the pistachio flavor in my pistachio latte or the hazelnut in the americano so they might be do fewer pumps of syrups in their coffee. The space itself has lots of seating, which is a plus if you're looking for somewhere to hang out for a while. They also have a pool table, which could be a fun activity if you're coming here for a date or with friends. When I visited, they were playing the World Cup game, so it had a casual and lively atmosphere. Wouldn't have even known this was an evening drinks option in downtown if not for my pal's private party here. I just thought it was a daytime coffee counter, but apparently at night it transforms to a low key casual hang with lite bites, beer and wine and a surprisingly creative (but short) cocktail list. The interior is interesting-- tall ceilings and lots of concrete but tempered by lots of exposed natural wood and a good proportion of windows. Somehow airy but also not too cold. There's a big u-shaped bar where the very attentive staff slings those very solid drinks (I had the Aviation). Came in the morning to this coffee shop in the Yamhill District. 40 LBS has been here awhile and has since opened a few more locations. It has coffee of course along with some other things. A small inside area with a few tables so it's not good for big groups. The prices are pretty okay for being hipster. Basic menu of mostly coffee. It's about $5 to get a latte. They have a few non dairy milks. Good coffee but honestly nothing extraordinary. The food menu is pretty paltry. It's about $2 for a bagel. There's limited choices of toppings except for butter and cream cheese, and maybe jelly. Basically not much for vegans to eat. The atmosphere is pretty cool so it has that at least. For the original location come here. It's on SW 2nd Avenue at Taylor. They're closed Wednesdays. read more

FYI this location is across the street from the Portland police department, so almost all customers were police officers, lawyers and other gov workers. A few blocks north is another 40lb, which is just the shop and not a coffee shop + bar The interior was so beautiful! The worst chai latte I've ever had. Usually chai lattes are delicious and creamy. The chai I got was neither one of those. It tasted mostly chai spiced and a lot of water. Like super watered down. I also substitute the milk with coconut milk for an extra $2, but didn't taste any coconut milk at all. I'm not sure if the barista forgot to include coconut milk but the chai looked good but tasted horrible. I checked how the chai color looked and it was super light brown, like a watered down chai. Most likely she forgot the milk. It was too late as we got it and left! What a waste. read more

First time here. Ended up going to the wrong location. There are 3 of them, all in short distances from one another, can be confusing. I was meeting 3 people for a business meeting and it took me to the wrong one, luckily the correct location was only a block and a half over. If you have been to the other location down the street you know what a great ship this is. I was surprised when the owner opened a new location so large and near his other location in downtown right near the dark days of COVID. He not only opened it but also upped the experience by adding a bar to this location. The interior has a great vibe with wood and warm decor that makes you want to just hang out. Coffee is always outstanding and the bar cocktails are excellent in quality and creativity. Bottle selection in my opinion is spot on for variety and shelf position. So I do like this place and I do get coffee here about twice per week. Good space, nice music playing, and friendly staff. My issue is that 40lb have raised prices recently on just plain coffee and discontinued their loyalty punch card. This makes me consider the frequency of my visits and tip. If I'm getting black coffee to go do I really want to pay +3$ and then tack-on .50$ because it was poured into a paper cup? 12 oz. of coffee even with overhead has to be 1.25$ even at full retail mark-up that's just 2.50$ per cup. read more

Beautiful coffee shop with gorgeous interior and good coffee. I love hanging out here though sometimes their hours are confusing. We've gone there only to find them closed when online it says they are open. The coffee is really good. I hope they keep using Oatly milk as it just makes the best lattes. They use Coava coffee, a really good local company. Sometimes the music is too loud but at least it's good, so I can enjoy it, though when with friends they have says it was too loud. One of my favorite coffee shops to frequent when I'm in the downtown area. Housed inside an office building on the first floor, I've had their drip coffee, matcha latte, and their normal lattes and all have been fantastic. The employees are always friendly and the drinks come out fast. A couple of coworkers I went here with ordered food from here too and spoke highly of their food offerings.
