We visited the Soupery before they closed for the season. It's a small takeout window with a few soups to choose from, and we got the New England corn chowder. The soup was great, but even better was their grilled cheese sandwich - a combination of gruyere, parmesan, and cheddar. Delicious on its own, and wonderful on the side of soup. read more

I was feeling peckish before heading to the wedding show so I headed over for a snack. I loved the blend of flavors in the jammin bacon grilled cheese. The soup was piping hot and full of chunks, but I thought it could have used a lil more flavor since it was a "Cajun" sweet potato and chicken soup. Happen to find this place walking through downtown Fort Smith. I couldn't believe all five of their soup selections were gluten-free. I was so excited! On a cold weekday, I decided to head to the Soupery to satiate a craving for chicken noodle. The location is wonderfully walkable if you work in downtown Portsmouth. Service was quick, friendly, and helpful when they ran out of the full amount of one ordered soup. I've driven or walked by the Soupery while visiting downtown Portsmouth so many times but never been in the mood for soup until yesterday. Cool and windy it seemed like the perfect day to stop and get a bowl. I was pretty disappointed with their soup list. I would have thought at least 5 interesting soups but there were only 3 and all relatively boring. They also sell what sounded like juice shakes and had a lot of those on the menu so maybe that's where their business is focused now. I thought the grilled cheese sounded good so I ordered (or thought I ordered) Not Your Mama's Minestrone soup and a grilled cheese, however, noticed when I was paying that they only heard the soup part of the order. I had to get going and I figured the soup would be good enough so I didn't correct the woman. The soup came out fast and I was on my way. Despite not being my mama's minestrone it seemed pretty traditional to me. There was a bit of a weird after taste and it was super onion heavy. My partner and I both ate it and he ended up eating the bulk of it as I just didn't like the taste. Hours later, I had a bad stomach ache that seemed related to that soup so I don't know if had some secret heavy duty garlic (my food nemesis) or was bad as it had an off taste but yuck. So, I went to The Soupery hoping to nosh on a grilled cheese and soup. I was lucky enough to walk in 15 minutes before closie, which happened to be 3 pm on this day. They had a note posted on the door, that they were closing that early for a staff meeting. Strangely, it wasn't the only busniness I noticed in town with notes like that. I think I found the restaurant from the town map they gave me at my hotel. I am a sucker for an amazing grilled cheese, so with my mid afternoon hunger in hand, I set out to find this little hole in the wall. And that it is: a hole in the wall! Teeny, tiny. There is a tiny counter against the wall, with a few stools squeeed in, but for the most part, it seems to be a place best suited for grabbing your food and going elsewhere to enjoy it. Very small and cramped, Can't say that the service was friendly, or in any way engaging, unfortunately. I did notice a "help wanted" sign seeking "energetic" people, so it seems the owner realizes how important being helpful/friendly is. Hopefully, The Soupery will have some luck soon finding at least one energetic, friendly worker. Not that the girl working there was rude, or slow...just kind of bored to be there, you know? I understand where she's coming from, but you still have to try to seem more interested. Unfortunately, they only had 2 or 3 soup choices...doesn't seem like much for a restaurant called "The Soupery". Nothing floated my boat, so I skipped the soup and went just with the grilled cheese. It was delicious. YUM I would have loved a Diet Coke with it, but they don't carry any sodas, so I drank nothing. That grilled cheese was a 5*, but considering everything else, I must give a lower rating. read more

The Soupery is one of the best soup places I've ever been too. It is one of our go-to spots in downtown Portsmouth! They have delicious and flavorful soups. My favorites are their Cajun sweet potato chicken and their chicken and rice soup. They have grilled cheese as well. Their soups are the perfect comfort food! Comes with your choice of bread on the side or crackers. They also offer gluten free & vegan menu options too. I wish they stayed open a bit later as we'd definitely go more often if they had evening hours! Best soup in Portsmouth! We stumbled upon this place while walking around Downtown Portsmouth. The inside is tiny and adorable, but it's a must-try! The Cajun chicken sweet potato soup is SO GOOD. We ended up waiting until they opened again the next day at 11:30 to get a 32 oz one to take with us. Try it with the cheesy focaccia bread as well. If you want to sit and eat it there, you can go next door to The Juicery which has a bit more seating room. Delicious juice there as well! read more

Conveniently located to my downtown Portsmouth office the Soupery is an ideal place to grab fast food that is not fast food. The interior is the basement of a historic home, with less than 7' of ceiling height and 200 square feet of space of which over half is utilized by food and equipment, this is an In & Out type establishment. Typically you have five or six soups to choose from and the same for their breads. For $7 you'll get a good sized portion with roll and you'll be on your way. Plain and simple: I also agree with the other reviewers about the small portions for a high price. Although the soups taste great and are of high quality, the poor value keeps me from coming back to this establishment. I actually did a survey of all the other places that serve soup and The Soupery was so out of line with everyones else's pricing. Usually pretty good, but today they gave me bread that they specifically said was vegan, but when I went to eat it at home there was cheese all over the top. I absolutely loved this place. It's very small and cozy which might have been my favorite part about it. The soups all have really great flavor (or at least the ones they had the day I visited). I frequent The Juicery, which is right next to The Soupery and I have passed by this restaurant multiple times and decided to eat there today. The staff was incredibly friendly and pleasant and the soup was very tasty, but the main highlight for me was the grilled cheese. The combo of cheeses that is used is super. My only complaint is that it is very small and thus I was not able to eat inside because there were a group of people inside. Otherwise I had a great experience! read more

As other reviews suggest, yes the prices are not cheap - but neither is the quality and you get what you pay for. So disappointed.... We decided to get some soup to go this past Sunday after a 4 hr drive. I got 2 grilled cheese and tomato, chicken vegetable and rice, and curried root lentil soup. There was nothing special about any of these soups. They lacked taste. The grilled cheese and tomato soup was on the gritty side instead of a smooth puree we were expecting. The chicken soup was ok at most along with the lentil soup. We got the bread option and found that 2 of the breads were stale. For 4 bowls of soup it cost us about $26; costly. Though I think they must have made a mistake cause they were like cup portions. For a place that has a website called wickedgoodsoup i expected to be blown away. Next time I'll just suck it up and make my own. read more
