Babaaaaay! A time was had last night at The Southern Table. It was two of us. I ordered the blackened catfish with grits substituted the green beans for mushrooms and onions (and glad I did) and ordered the white beans. My friend had the hamburger with fries. The wait time for our meal was 15-20mins which is average. But honey if I knew what I was about to try, I would have waited an HOUR, no lie. Our food arrived and the catfish was huge, it was not crispy/seared enough so I sent it back. And proceeded to try my friend's food. I grabbed some fries and I swear someone in the kitchen is a drug dealer because the fries are like crack we were addicted. They seasoned those fries and not sure if there was truffle oil but they weren't ORDINARY fries. I then cut into my friend's burger (medium-well) BABY when all the juices escaped, I knew it was on like Donkey Kong. It was cooked to perfection and didn't disappoint. I'm not a beef eater but, I have a future Sunday lunch date to collect my own burger and fries, lol. My food arrived and I tried the grits and the cheese ratio and creamy texture had me almost eat them without the fish. The fish was now sear and the flavor of the skin was impeccable. I then tried my mushrooms, now I have been a vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian and when I say I'm sounding the alarm for any of those that are in those categories. Babaaay, no lie it had to be Jesus himself or an angel that was sent on a special assignment to only make those mushrooms. My palate immediately tasted the red wine and I loved the meaty texture of the whole wholesome the onions almost tasted like a French onion soup, I wanted to drink the juice in cup but my friend said, I was doing too much and we were out in public. So, I ordered an additional order of mushrooms and plan to drink the juice in the privacy of my own home ( haha). I moved to my white beans they were seasoned and like salty so I would need some rice to absorb the salt but they were good. No for the grand finale. I ordered their white chocolate strawberry bread pudding. I'm from East Baton Rouge, Louisiana. So, I grew up on bread pudding. Me and my friend shared the dessert. When I tell you this dessert DID NOT disappoint. At this point I asked to meet the head chef, to offer an official marriage proposal, but he was not there. Women in the Athens, AL, the chef is a bachelor. I don't know how with the way he cooks. So, stop by for the catfish and catch a man too. He's brother was there and I wanted to slap him to sleep because at this point the -Itis was overtaking me. The owner's brother was so polite and was a hoot. All I can say for the overall experience is, MY GOD! It was so good, I got lost in the moment and only have a picture of the dessert but posting receipt, smh. The atmosphere and our server, Estella, were awesome. Sometimes you have to thank God for being alive to experience food like this. My daughter and I stopped by when we were visiting Athens and had a wonderful lunch. The service was amazing. Our server provided information and suggestions (at our request), then followed up to ensure that we were enjoying our meals. I had the grilled pimento cheese with collard greens as a side and my daughter had the smoked turkey club with garlic cheddar grits. Everything was prepared perfectly. A true taste of the south. The Southern Table is proof positive that there are some exceptional restaurants located in smaller towns. It is good to know that youncan find a great restaurant outside of the big cities and the Southern Table was an overall winner. The menu is southern comfort food, but prepared with a skilled hand and a culinary passion. The fried green tomatoes are a heat way to start your meal and the pork entree was pretty stellar, as well. The ambiance is spot on and service was professional, friendly and only enhanced my overall experience. When you take into account that this restaurant is located in Pulaski, Tennessee (not exactly a hub known for its restaurant scene), you can appreciate even more the quality food coming from their kitchen. All in all, I would definitely recommend the Southern Table. Taking all into consideration, including the fact that it is in Pulaski, Tennessee, I have to give it five stars. read more

I went for low carb till I hit dessert, and the dessert alone is reason to return and to go on a diet. Just amazing. I had the banana fosters bread pudding, ands thought I'd take half of everything home but nothing lasted... including the crab stuffed grouper... just an amazing combination of flavors, none of them overpowering the others, although I really loved the citrus flavor ... not sure how the chef did it, but I'm a fan and all the veggies were on point, which I really appreciate because for me $36 a plate is a splurge. Heard about this place reading some legal thrillers by a lawyer from Huntsville AL named Bailey. Check him out too if you're into thrillers. Robert Bailey... had to go look him up. Great restaurant recommendation, and very very happy I came. It's not on my usual path, but one I wish to add. Some local folks came in and I heard one ordering the fried chicken. This is not your neighborhood chicken place, and this is in the south, so I suspect that is another dish to check out when I'm not eyeing the seafood. I posted some pics here somewhere. After a Facebook Marketplace transaction we found ourselves in Pulaski. Obviously this place was an obvious choice after checking out the reviews. I would totally eat there again if I was ever in the area. Tucked into the downtown area, this beautiful spot is unique and yummy. I love all the different ideas on the menu and the use of local farms! We tried the fried green tomatoes- fabulous! The catfish tacos were fantastic! The fries were crisp and fresh. The burger was the star of the show! Fresh, juicy and full of flavor! The biggest disappointment was the Brussel salad, it some serious seasoning and they needed to be roasted a bit longer. A group of family went for lunch to a recently new Resturant. The food was great some items were spicer than others but each was very good ! The fried pork chops were juicy and tender with an excellent crust. The grilled pork chops were juicy and tender everyone said really there wasn't much let on the plate that wasn't taken home for a second helping later! Good place to eat! We were thougherly disappointed when we came to Southern Table. We came here because WAFF-48's Tennessee Valley Living did a review on it. The bad news started when server told us they no longer make the brussels sprout side dish that TVL's host Payton Walker said was her favorite and to die for. I ordered the fried catfish with house cut fries with asparagus. All three items had so much salt on them I could not eat them. My fried catfish was so overcooked they came out black and were soaking in grease. On the bright side my sweet iced tea was great. But we left without eating or paying. read more

Stopped here a early afternoon bite while my wife and I were out exploring Tennessee on our Harley. Stopped in and they were having "Brunch" bonus!!! Easily the BEST burger in all Athens. The pickle slices are so fresh they either make their own or buy a premium brand pickle. The restaurant was cold. The door opening was constant allowing a brisk cold breeze each time it opened. The chips with spinach queso were overcooked or had an odd seasoning. The burger and fries were enjoyed. The house salad had an odd taste -- not sure what that was. The chicken fingers with the salad may have had the same seasoning as the chips. The waitress was doing multiple task and didn't take our order until after our appetizer arrived. The highlight of the lunch was the Grinch ran through and high-fived me. read more

Southern Table, I was so excited to come here after I had seen photos online, but it just didn't quite live up to my expectations. Service was impeccable, food was decent- but I felt was a little pricey for what it was. What lost a star for me was the building and seating. Although beautiful and clean, we just couldn't get comfortable. Our table was small, wobbly, and the bench I sat on was less than the depth of my purse (I would guess 8"-10" deep). If I'm paying $30 for a pork chop and two potatoes, I'd like a little more comfortable seating. I would like to go back and try again, maybe lunch. But if the bench side is all that's available, I think I'll have to pass or wait for a different table. read more

Ordering different plates and sharing was what we did after taking a bite off of our own plates. We wanted the other people in our party to try how good each person's selection was. Excellent food! The menu changes seasonally. Everything is fresh, of great quality, and from scratch. For those reasons, it's my favorite restaurant in the area. For GF folks like me: There's very limited gluten free items. They don't have a kids' menu. So it's $9 for chicken strips that the kids may or may not eat. They have Sundrop to drink which is always a plus in my book. There's outdoor seating but usually a limited menu for the outside. When they serve the full menu, I enjoy eating out there. (There's usually not any GF options on the limited menu.) If it was more kid friendly, it would be 5 stars. read more

This particular Restaurant had just started serving dinner this past week and we have never been there for lunch so this is all limited review for just their dinner service. The service bar waitress was wonderful. She was very kind and attentive and no problems at all. Unfortunately, being that we don't go out much to eat, I thought the portions for the money or terribly over price. I ordered a half a chicken with two sides for roughly $17, and that was a tiny chicken or the breast of the thigh or cut it half. Side of garlic, mashed potatoes was compressed into a little bowl and it was cold, or lukewarm it. my wife said the same of her grits for her shrimp and grits dish, which was 26 and she pretty much left the grits and ate half the shrimp, with me eating the rest. To answer your question, no, I didn't complain and send anything back because I've never done that before. However, I did leave a note on our credit card receipt for them to read at their own leisure. I really wanted to order the hamburger but it was $24 and in no lifetime am I paying $24 for any hamburger and french fries. read more

This was our second time dining here and enjoyed it just as much as the first. The fried green tomatoes are a must do. We went for simplicity tonight and ordered the hamburger steak. We were going to checkout the Mercantile store next door when I happen to see the Southern Table. They had popped up on my Yelp! before and have been wanting to check them out but they were temporarily closed. After leaving the store, my husband and I decided to grab lunch next door. We walked in and got a seat in the back. The decor and atmosphere is cute and rustic. Reminds me of a French hunting lodge. The server was friendly and very attentive. We ordered their cornbread for an appetizer which my husband loved as he said it was reminiscent of his grandma's cornbread. My husband also ordered their soup of the day which was roasted garlic. I also had a cup of the soup and their daily meet special which was pork chops. You had an option of getting it grilled or fried with a side of their fire roasted green beans and side of grits. All the food was amazing tasted great. We want to come back and try them out for dinner next time. I highly recommend you check out the Southern Table next time you are in Athens, AL!
