I tried the Salmon, Scallop, and Blue Crab Sonmari. All of them had a wonderful blend of flavors and the ratio of toppings to rice was perfect! The salmon stood out to me the most! It tasted really fresh and was slightly cold, which really emphasized the flavors. I love how the seaweed comes separately so that it doesn't get soggy from the fish and rice. You simply slide the hand roll off the wooden paddle onto the seaweed when you are ready to eat! Our server was great! Always checked on us and food came quick! Street parking is available, but can be hard to find. Overall, really enjoyed the vibes and the food!

We were able to easily get a reservation about 2 weeks ahead for a Friday night dinner. The server told us they do lunch specials which are sets of their handrolls, but for dinner you need to order a la carte. I think based off this information, I would opt for lunch next time but almost everything we ordered was amazing. What we ordered: Small Plates: -Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice: One of my favorite tuna crispy rices I've had. The rice was crispy even after sitting at the table for some time. Had a nice brush of soy glaze on exterior which gave it extra flavor. I love that their rice had some chew after the initial crunchy bite. It wasn't hard and dry like other spots. Generous amount of spicy tuna. Topped w/avo and a tiny sliver of jalapeno. Comes as 2 pieces per order but they are a bit larger than other spots so you could easily cut them in half for optimal sharing. -Hikari-Don: The star of the show. Delicious. I am considering coming back and just ordering one for myself as the meal. Has scallop, shrimp, tuna, uni, ikura, and small bits of yellow radish for texture. We noticed the nori served with this dish is a thinner sheet that's the seasoned kind with probably sesame/salt as opposed to the plain sheets served with the sonmari handrolls. We had to ask for more which was an annoying $2 charge because the sheets are also cut smaller than the handrolls so you can't fit much into one. This bowl alone also costs $65 so it is hefty but very INDULGENT. Hand Rolls (Sonmari): -Scallop: Supple, fresh. Yummy, would order this again. -Seared Salmon: My friends and I agreed this might have been our favorite handroll. It was simple but done well. Fatty salmon, was not over-torched. Nice char flavor. -C.U.T (Caviar, Uni, Tuna): Decadent. Thick cut of tuna. Shiso leaf is not my cup of tea so I had to remove it but still a real treat if you're will to splurge $25 on one handroll. Otherwise, I would say this is skippable if you're already getting other high-ticket items. -Saewoo-Jang: Soy-marinated shrimp. My friend and I both agreed we would not order this one again. The flavor was very one-noted. It really only had a pronounced kimchi flavor. The flesh was also on the tough side and difficult to get a clean bite (I had to yank on the shrimp). We wished the shrimp was as soft and plush as the ones in the hikari-don. We don't recommend this one. Cocktail: -Citrus Splash: Sweet but not overwhelming. Good acidity and fragrant rosemary. Would order this again. Portion size: I think if you eat an average/small amount and were planning to get the Hikari-don to share, I would start with 2 handrolls and share a small plate before splitting the hikari-don with 1-2 other people. I ate 4 handrolls and 1 spicy tuna crispy rice before eating a large chunk of the hikari-don and was pretty full by the end so do keep that in mind; the handrolls can be filling from all the rice and plump size. The restaurant and parking: The restaurant has nice ambiance with a main medium-sized room and bar seating, and a separate room closer to the entrance where reserved seating is. Service was attentive and prompt. They provide a wet nap at the beginning before you eat. The prices are on the higher end but I would go here for a special occasion. The restaurant faces Sunset and I believe they offer valet in the front but I easily found free street parking on a Friday night next to the elementary school on the right turn before you approach the restaurant. Not sweet, perhaps even a bit bland. The skirt steak for brunch was a nice piece of meat and the hash was unique, but the runny egg in a compact plate didn't really seal the deal for me.
