Although there was a bit of a wait, it was absolutely worth it. Sparrow bakery really pulls out all the stops for every item on their menu. While my son had simple steel cut oats, they were the perfect texture and I liked that they gave the sides in little cups to be put on in the quantity that the customer wished. The sandwich croissant was so flavor soul and beautifully balanced. We did have to ask them to take it and warm it up, so if you get one of these beautiful sandwiches, make sure you specify that you want it heated prior to them bringing it to your table. Disappointed. We often go to Sparrow for their Ocean rolls. The day before Thanksgiving we got there at 8:15am and joined a long line of folks outside in 28 degree weather waiting to get inside to the counter, testimony to Sparrow's good work. However, after 25 minutes we got to the counter only to be informed they were out of Ocean rolls. A simple note or a quick trip by an employee outside to those in line (we weren't the only ones disappointed) would have save all some trouble. We sympathize greatly with small businesses trying to cope during these ridiculous times, and appreciate those businesses (monetarily and otherwise) who bend over backwards to treat their employees right. But, unless customers are treated equally well it won't matter how well you treat your employees. read more

This place has redeemed itself. The first time I went there I ordered the torta and some sort of fruit tart and I was not impressed with either. The 2nd time I went there, my mom said to get the popular bacon sandwich on a crossiant and the Ocean roll (cardamom is a very unique addition) and both were really good. If I go back I will make sure to stick to those 2 items. On a weird side note, beware of the Tabasco. It looked to be 25 yrs old and was no longer red, but rather a cloudy tan. read more

Incredible texture and the perfect balance of sweetness and savoriness. We also got lunch here, and both the monte cristo and bacon breakfast sandoh were really really good. Delicious and a must stop in Bend! Doors open at 7am and there are usually a handful of people waiting for fresh baked goods! Everything everything everything on the menu is delicious! Fresh, many healthy options, and oven-baked goodies that had me coming back everyday of our trip to Bend. I got a delicious cortado, but it was the Ocean Roll and the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies that had me swooning- and coming back for more! Cookies are larger and perfect for splitting and sharing with friends! I never had to wait in too much of a line, and even if I did, worth it for sure! There are several tables outside for dining and coffee chats, and there are several cute little shops nearby for browsing. I will miss Bend and most definitely miss Sparrow Bakery. I don't live in Bend so this review is based off of the single time that I came here. I think my bf and I got lucky because we walked in on a Sunday morning and went straight to the cashier to order. I am European and love to have tasty food. A big part of the food in Europe is bread. Being in the USA for the last 20 years I found the bread in this country is completely junk. I do not know why. This is a must-visit for every day that we spend in Bend. Sparrow is beyond awesome, especially for cardamom lovers. Try their famous Ocean Roll, and be spoiled for any other pastries involving cardamom. They also offer a cardamom old-fashioned cocktail... (one of these days...) Other standouts include the "everything" croissant, all of their other croissants, house made granola, cinnamon knot, macarons, etcetera. We have not visited for lunch, but I would assume that their lunch offerings are every bit as delicious as their breakfast menu. read more

Wow! The bacon croissant breakfast sandwich was so so good. Bacon had that extra sweet crispness. We also tried their unique cardamom ocean roll which went well with the coffee. Kiddo had a salmon bagel which also tasted great. Overall will definitely come back! We were there around 8:45 on a Wednesday and it started to get crowded as we were leaving. read more

This location is WAY better than the teeny tiny Scott Street location. There is room here to sit down and enjoy your breakfast. The visual ambience is great, although the audio ambience is not. The music playing at 7am on a recent visit was Beastie Boys, Aerosmith, Naughty by Nature, Cypress Hill, etc. Not how I want to start my day. How about a little Mozart, Ella Fitzgerald, or Frank Sinatra, or nothing at all? Other than the music, this place is two thumbs up. Friends ordered the avocado toast and breakfast sandwich and enjoyed it, especially the avocado toast. There are two locations in Bend. One is very small with long lines and nowhere to sit really and the other is spacious and beautiful. The absolute best. The Ocean roll and it's counterpart the Chocolatine (?) are perfection. Flakey and a bit crisp outside, soft inside. We had an avocado toast. There is a tanginess to the avocado spread. They top it with arugula which is so fresh and not tough or overly spicy (mostly what we get in the Midwest). There's a few select timers that you can come here when there's no line, I have yet to find out when that is to experience it but either place is worth at least a little bit of a wait. They have other stuff that's just as good but you'll have to wait to find out from me and it's going to be a while, the cardamum latte and ocean roll is my thing right now.
