I realized that The Grindstone was still in the area and could offer curbside pickup (which my mom assisted with!) - although you can also order for items to be shipped. The online ordering was easy and straightforward with good descriptions of the products. I was able to get a good variety of olive oil (their own brand from Greece), balsamic vinegar, dipping spices and local honey (was great to know I was supporting another local business with my purchase!). We had a small miscommunication about the pickup, but it was quickly resolved and relatively easy from their showroom. My dad has enjoyed the items he received and we were both pleased to be able to say we supported a local business that's dedicated to ethical and healthy products.

When I entered I was overcome by a horribly strong odor of what seems to be a combination of bad incense & herb burning for many years. The store suffered from the 4Ds.....dark, dingy, dusty & dirty. In fact any merchandise that isn't sealed should be considered used as it is all tainted with a layer of residue from the burning of items. In so far as pressured sales, yes they do suffer from that also even to the extent of as you're heading toward the door. The couple of items I had a somewhat interest in the shopkeeper could not demonstrate or explain them correctly. Personally I couldn't get out of there quick enough to get fresh air in my body. To add to the dismal experience I had to maneuver myself around beer cans in the parking lot.

I immediately fell in love when I walked through the door. The store is located in San Marco which is known for their boutiques and it fits right in. It's a small family owned store featuring unique blends, rubs, spices, oils, teas, and lots more! At the tasting I bought one of the featured hot sauces. It's called "Surprisingly Mild Guajillo Ghost"! It's "surprising" because this sauce is made with ghost chili peppers which is the world's hottest pepper. She allowed my friend and I to try multiple tastings. I ended up buying three different items just based on the samples. She, and her husband (I think), make all of the spices, sauces and dressings and they are good, good, good!!!!! Great prices and great quality!!!!! The owner was also a wealth of knowledge on the city and surrounding areas. We chatted for 15 minutes and she gave us multiple reccomendations on things to do in the area and other good local bussinesses. Definitely a place to stop by if you are near the Jacksonville Landing!!!
