I have had great food and great service every time I visited The Spot. The staff is friendly and very accommodating to young children. I feel fortunate to have a restaurant like The Spot in my neighborhood. Not only is the food delicious, interesting, and consistent, but their staff is competent and wonderful and the price is right. I frequent The Spot with my 3yo son and he loves it - the giant aquarium is a crowd pleaser, as is the relaxed, surf-inspired decor and vibe. The have ample seating outside in the warmer months, and although the only frontage they have butts up against busy Shelburne Rd., it's still nice to have the option to dine outside when the weather permits. I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal there, and I hope they continue in their awesome groove for years to come. read more

What a pleasant spot! It reminds me of where I live in SoCal. I wondered about the potted Palm Trees out front; could they possibly be alive through a VT winter or are they fake? We went there for lunch as an alternative to South End Kitchen with no seating available. They had a great Steak and Arugala sandwich special I asked about on the way in, to learn not available rarer than past medium. My partner went for it anyway after I ordered the BLT with "soft bacon", and Jake said his would be prepared medium rare, so I changed my order to the special. He soon returned to report medium rare 'not available' so I switched back to the Mahalo. We both enjoyed our sandwiches with chips and a pickle spear. Food was good, but pricey compared to back home in San Diego where a choice of french fries or a side salad would be included at that price. Our server must be a chain smoker as he reeked of smoke on each visit to our table. Unfortunately they were not busy so he had plenty of smoke breaks during our visit which was unpleasant. read more

The exterior is pretty cool in a retro-California way, but every moment spent on the interior left more than something to be desired. Two out of four meals were prepared incorrectly. The omelettes were skimpy, both in eggs and in filling, and the chicken sandwich probably doesn't deserve the name--there was so little meat I had to remake the sandwich into a half just to have something between the slices of bread. The smoothies were fine, but nothing to write home about (though a member of our party made his dairy allergy known to the server who nevertheless brought his smoothie made with yogurt). A sandwich ordered without tomatoes came with tomatoes and an omelette ordered with guacamole came without guacamole. You get the picture. The menu looked awesome, the food was a letdown. I finally got to eat at The Spot! I had been wanting to go ever since they converted it from the old gas station. It's an adorable space, led me to think the food would be of better quality. The Hawaiian theme is a little kitchy/tacky. The food was decent, a friend of mine got Huevos Rancheros and it looked like they might be making their own salsa in there, which I like. Another friend, after ordering a ham, egg & cheese breakfast sandwich, asked our waitress, "So is the ham deli-sliced, or--" and the waitress cut her off and said "No, it's like, real ham. It's like, legit," which obviously was not helpful at all. When we all drained our water glasses within 10 minutes of arrival, the waitress waited for us to ask her for more half way through the meal, and then said "I don't think I have enough." Enough...water? Are you kidding? One thing, I'm not saying waitstaff MUST exude confidence and panache in order to be likable/successful, but I'm saying that the best DO, so if you want to be awesome, don't act like your clients are bothering you when they ask you for shit. A menu with great variety in its nod to its surfing theme. The portobello mushroom stack is amazing, the crab cakes are 99% crab minus the typical bread crumb filler-tender, light & wonderfully crabby! The entrees clearly use fresh ingredients and have great flavor. The fish tacos are ambitious and though the fish a little overcooked, they are worth tackling. Fun Thursday surf movie night! My wife and I are up in Burlington for a wedding and took a chance on The Spot this morning. The sunny day didn't hurt but anyways we found the huge windows, surfer gear, and big palm / draecaena plants to be a great atmosphere. The coffee was fabulous. We had omelettes - one was the daily special with goat cheese, tomato, spinach, and basil. One was bacon, spinach, and blue cheese. Both were fabulous with plenty of cheese and thick bacon. I ordered sides of guacamole and salsa and both were clearly home made and excellent if needing a little salt (I appreciate that they might want to leave the sodium low and let people add it as they like). Our waitress was super helpful even though the place was jammin and had our waters filled constantly... maybe they've been reading their past yelp reviews and shaped up :-) Home fries were mixed regular and sweet potato which was nice. Basically the visit made our morning. read more

The Spot is a pretty nice place to grab a bite to eat. I've gone here for breakfast and lunch, and of the two I found lunch to be a lot better, despite it being significantly more crowded. They have a pretty decent amount of vegetarian options, and the staff is very nice. read more

Great place! We were passing through Burlington on our way to Shelburne Farm and found this restaurant. The food was great and the service was friendly. I had a great BLT on yummy bread with a side salad and my husband a chicken sandwich that was excellent as well. They have a great kids menu. We added a side of fruit to my daughter's lunch - it was lovely - lots of nice fresh fruit. If I'm ever back in Burlington, I'll definitely visit again. read more

I've been here three times since we moved to the area - so that's three times in about 6 weeks. We really enjoy the breakfast. Eggs, pancakes, toast, homemade jam - all are fresh and served hot just the way we ordered them. The coffee is very tasty and the seating inside and out is comfortable. The service matches the theme: laid back. We do get refills on coffee and waters, but they are not in your face every two minutes, which I find is a positive thing. Try the huevos rancheros or the Bonzai Pipeline. The panckes are also very fluffy and yummy. The only reason I can't give five stars is because I think it could be a little cheaper. But, I moved from an area of New York that's cheap to live in, so maybe I am dreaming hoping for less expensive food in this area of Vermont! read more

Well, I've finally had the chance to check out The Spot. Having lived on the West Coast for a time, I was excited to try out their breakfast burritos. My first experience with them wasn't bad at all. I ordered takeout on their website, got the food with no fuss. I had ordered the Tsunami, which reminded me of San Diego, so I was pretty happy. A week later, I convinced my wife to have Sunday breakfast there, along with our 10 month old daughter. We took a table outside and the hostess brought us a high chair. It started out well, but from there it was mostly downhill. The waitress we got could not have been less interested in actually taking our order, serving us food, or being nice in any way. It took forever just to place our order, let alone get our food. But you know what, that's ok, I'm a grown up, I can be patient. You know who can't be patient? A 10 month old. So when I ordered a cup of fruit so I could feed the baby, and ASK for it to come out as soon as possible, I thought maybe that's what I would get. However, they didn't bother with that until the rest of the food came out. Not that I could have asked her where the fruit was, because our waitress went MIA for the interim. When the food did come, it was alright. My burrito was good, I had the Ole this time, but my wife ordered what were possibly the most boring pancakes I've ever seen. When we asked for a small plate to put the fruit on for our daughter, we were ignored. We had to keep asking for things to get them and at the end of the meal I had to go back inside just to get the check. It's too bad. I've heard good things. Their burritos were good and I've heard good things about the fish tacos. I saw another waiter who I think may have been the owner. That table was getting good service. However, if you expect even the bare minimum from the waitress that I got, you'll be disappointed. read more

We stopped at this place on a whim on a Saturday afternoon. It was full and we had to wait, which we expected and was fine. The hostess asked "Do you want to put your name?" "In what?" my companion asked. It was ten minute or so. After sitting down at the table where the hosted just pointed to, we were given our water and menus, after a short time our order was taken and then we waited......... and waited..... and waited......When our meal finally arrived it looked fine. My friend's The Hamilton sandwich looked good until we noticed the American sliced cheese (ew) was not even melted. He said it was fine anyway. I had ordered a cheese quesadilla with roasted veggies. The vegetables were not roasted at all, they seemed to have been microwaved as was the shell, it was mushy and chewy. We were going to say something to the host but she didn't seem to care and off we went never to return. I am afraid they are riding on their cool Surfer Dude Atmosphere. The Spot has been one of my favorite breakfast places since a friend introduced me to it about a year ago. I love the simple Hawaiian theme and the staff and atmosphere are typically very inviting. I've ordered a couple of dishes that weren't exactly top quality because the ingredients didn't seem super fresh in comparison to other things they serve, but even so they were ok meals. Now that I've found some favorites, I always leave satisfied. For example, their Huevos Rancheros is consistently delicious, as are the Pancakes served with local VT maple syrup. The coffee, homefries, and smoothies are great additions to your breakfast, but possibly the best addition is their buttered English muffin with strawberry jam...yum! read more

I have to give this place 1 star. After reviewing the menu online and making a point to go to it we were very disappointed. Not in the food though because we never got a chance to eat. We were sat and served water. After waiting for over 20 minutes we thought we were in luck because a server came and took orders from 2 tables next to us but walked right by us. She got their coffee and again walked by us. A 2nd waitress then took another tables order. Normally I would have waived someone down but at this point we did not want to give this place our money. It's funny because there seemed to be other reviewed very similar to our experience. We decided to drive down to the Skinny Pancake and had a fantastic breakfast. Everyone else at my table loved their lunch entrees so I'm giving it 2 stars, but I will say my grilled chicken sandwich was laughable. The avocado, lettuce, tomato and onion on rye toast were so delicious that is wasn't until I had eaten half of it that I realized the grilled chicken breast had been pounded completely flat -- my first half was maybe a quarter-inch thick, the second half was so flat it was the thickness and consistency of paperboard. Basically, it was a condiment sandwich, not a grilled chicken sandwich. I would have sent it back had I not already eaten the first half. Also, the chips that came with the sandwich were the bottom-of-the-bag crumbs -- chips the size of a quarter. This was my first time eating there so I was excited to try it out, but I probably will not go back. A grilled-chicken sandwich with potato chips should not be a complicated dish! I am a terrible cook, but I could have made this better myself. read more
