Perfect "spot" for a quick lunch that is hearty and very reasonably priced. I've had the gyro and veggie gyro. Both are large portions and super fresh. The veggie gyro has chunks of carrot, mushroom, zucchini, onion, peppers, lettuce, tomato, with a creamy tzatziki sauce on a warm pita. The gyro meat was very tasty. There aren't many Greek restaurants in Gainesville, so when a coworker suggested we eat here for lunch I was very excited, and The Spot did not disappoint! I had the spanakopita plate which included a salad and pita bread and it was both filling and delicious! The bread was so soft I couldn't resist eating all four pieces and the spanakopita was very flaky and warm. The salad was also a nice size, so even though it was lunch I left feeling like I got my money's worth. The service was also very quick, I received my food within 7-10 minutes and had plenty of time to eat during my lunch break and still walk back. I will definitely be popping by again soon! read more

Shockingly good gyro sandwiches. I've only been here twice, but the sandwich was impeccable both times. I'm a gyro fan -- I like the crispy bits when the meat has turned slowly over the heat. This gyro meat is the best I've eaten in Gainesville. It's tender, juicy, and the crispy bits are perfect. The pita is soft, thick, doughy and super-fresh. The lettuce is lovely -- also very fresh, crispy, nice in every way. (NOT shredded confetti.) The tzatziki is very good: Not too garlicky, and it's nicely thick. The sandwich also has fresh tomatoes and cucumbers in it. The combo with fries and a drink is reasonably priced and very generous in size. Both times I ate here, the fries were cooked to order and perfectly done. I liked them a lot even though they are the crinkle-cut style, not my favorite. The Spot is the underrated gem in Gainesville's midtown area, across from the University of Florida campus. Parking tends to be difficult given how packed the area is, but the food and service here is absolutely fantastic. All food is freshly made and the portions are large, so as far as quality and quantity you certainly get your bang for your buck. They specialize in Mediterranean dishes, such as souvlaki and gyros, but they also have some American food options like hamburgers. I personally always get the souvlaki platter, which comes with chicken, pita, fries, tzatziki sauce, and a greek salad, and I always find myself so full afterward from the amount of food in that dish. The staff is always friendly as well (I believe they are a family but I'm not totally sure). It's a shame that this place doesn't seem as crowded as places like Sushi Chao or Designer Greens whenever I go; The Spot to me is, as it's name says, the best restaurant spot in midtown. read more

Went here for lunch in the middle of a work day and it hit THE SPOT. You can get a platter with a lot of food for just $10 bucks. The pita bread came out warm and fresh as could be. Everything tasted fresh off the grill. Definitely a great place close to campus if you're looking for some Mediterranean food for a good price. And the people were nice as well. It's in a little food court with many other options close by, so everyone in your party can choose what they would like and sit together in the hallway of them all. Aside from the excellent service and great Gyros, I was offered coffee and fries for free multiple times. On Tuesday the chef saw that I was coughing and she brought me lemon juice! The spot has some good greasy food. The gyro sandwich or gyro platter (just the meat with other ingredients on the side) is the best gyro in town. Place is oddly situations next to parking lot entrance but within the area are several other opening up spots of eateries. The place is reasonable priced and a/c even in the semi looking outdoor area. I got the open gyro which was explained to me as a smaller version of the gyro platter. I can't imagine how big the platter is Bc my meal was large enough. Came with salad with feta cheese fries plentiful gyro, vinaigrette dressing on side and Tzatziki sauce. The Atmosphere: 3 stars The giant menu boards featured the typical blue and orange motif common in UF territory, which was a nice nod to what I'm sure is a large portion of their regular customer base. The restaurant itself is part of a building with a central indoor corridor lined with tables and chairs, connecting it to other restaurants (and restaurants-to-come) in the same shopping center. It had a very "mall food court" vibe, although that's not a terrible thing considering you don't come to a place like this for the ambiance. You come for the food. The Food: 5 stars Nice Greek-American menu, putting Greek platters and sandwiches alongside burgers, ruebens, and quesadillas. The lamb gyro is absolutely amazing. Delicious meat wrapped in a warm pillowy pita and topped with cool, creamy tzatziki...drooling just thinking about it. BUT THE FRIES. Ah! The fries are a masterpiece. I am not a student and typically avoid anything near the university as places that cater to the students are often a disappointment to older diners. However, the food here is exceptional.
