I got the plate recently which came with a greek salad, an main entree and a side of fries. the gyro was served open face with pita bread so if you want more traditional get the sandwich. I am so glad that I discovered this place!!! Th Spot is located in the same plaza as Fork and Pasta, and across from the St. Augustine Catholic Church on University. I have been looking for Greek cuisine, most importantly, a good gyro since I moved to Gainesville and let me tell you...I have found it! I usually order the lamb gyro, which is slices of lamb wrapped inside a pita with diced tomatoes, cucumbers and onions. The tzatziki sauce is then put over the meat and some is spread onto the pita bread itself. You can get the meal or the gyro itself - either is great depending on how hungry you are. It gets pretty busy during lunch hours, but I usually don't have to wait long to receive my meal. There are a few tables within the shop, as well as some tables in the main corridor of the plaza that is shared with guests eating from other restaurants. It seems as though this shop is family owned, which is a plus for me because I love supporting the locals and places that are not necessarily a chain restaurant. The Spot has satisfied my cravings every single time I have gone and the portions are huge for a great price. I would definitely recommend trying this place out! read more

Good location right off UF campus near Murphree dorms. HUGE portion on the gyros with fries. Good pricing and offer combos with fries or fries and drink. Limited seats inside restaurant, but some overflow in the mutual walkway shared by all businesses. You order at the counter and they bring tray of food to your table. The food was pretty good with most of the four saying this. The lamb meat was a tiny dry, but they gave us extra Zeke sauce to add. Lot of fries. In addition to offering mostly GREEK food they also have a number of American foods to please those in your party that like that type. This would be a good place when you go to Gator football and basketball games since it is an easy walk from both venues. The Spot is...well, it's my spot. This is one of my go-to lunches during the work week. Service is quick, super affordable, and really good! I'm a sucker for the chicken souvlaki--marinated & moist chicken, lettuce, cucumber, tomato & that addictive tzatziki sauce. The portion is pretty massive--I always struggle to finish the whole thing, as does my coworker, who is not someone known for leaving anything on his plate. I start with that because it wasn't clear what to do since the tables are out in a court area and it felt like you're just walking out on your food lol. Talk about bang for your buck! For about $10, it came with a Greek salad, plenty of slices of gyro meat, crinkle fries, pita bread, and a side of tzatziki sauce. I ended up taking about a quarter of it home to eat later. I thought everything was cooked very well to be quite frank. The flavor in the Greek salad was a little underwhelming but it wasn't bad, I'd say average. The gyro meat was delicious, lots of flavor and sliced into bite sized pieces. The fries were crispy and paired well with the tzatziki sauce. Nothing special about the fries honestly but they were cooked well. My friend ordered their French dip. It was a decent sized sandwich for the price but definitely salty. Not unbearable salty but the kind you notice on your tongue quite immediately. Final Thoughts: I had a very enjoyable first experience. At the end of the day, their food isn't mind blowing or life changing but it is definitely worth a visit. Parking is a little difficult but other than that, I'd love to see more people come out and try this place. I thought the price was excellent for the amount of food I got and the older couple working at the time (probably the owners?) was quiet but very welcoming in their own way. This is quite possibly my favorite Greek restaurant I've been to in Florida. Extremely close to UF campus, and locally owned this place is amazing. The portions are great, the owners are extremely nice and welcoming, but nothing beats the food. I always usually order either the Gyro or Chicken Souvlaki platter, and every-time the food is hot and fresh! Their Gyro meat is incredible, and the chicken is always juicy and well seasoned. The Greek salad is great too, they have a house Greek vinaigrette which is incredible. If you are in the Gainesville area and looking for a great fast option, please give this place a try. The Spot is located just north of the Florida campus on one of the streets off of 26. Parking is located somewhat on 26 and on NW 1st Ave, just above the restaurant. However, right next to it is the entrance and exit of a parking garage. We were there for about an hour and paid $5. Service: Order your food at the counter. We were told to take a seat at one of the tables off to the right and our food was brought to us in about 8 minutes. The tables were nothing to write home about, but adequate for the job. Atmosphere: Typical college semi fast food place. It looked like it split down the middle as far as eat in or take out. it shares some tables out in the corridor with other fast food restaurants. Food: it had your standard college fare, sandwiches, chicken wings, hamburgers, quesadillas, and, then, some greek food. We had the gyro platter which came with a greek side salad (good), fries (hot and crispy), tzatziki sauce (ok) and pita bread. All in all, quite a bit of food for less than $10. The gyro meat was good and plenty enough. It was sliced not in stripes but in smaller pieces. We have moved away from Gainesville and had an opportunity to make a quick visit. We were worried that The Spot would be closed for summer and we would not be able to get some good Greek food. Fortunately, they reopened on the day we visited, June 15, 2019. We spoke with the owner and he said they would now be open until next summer in 2020. The food, as usual, was very good and plentiful. I had the gyro platter which comes with a salad, gyros, pita, taziki and fries. Very tasty. My better half had a Greek salad with gyros. She was happy. I sent a picture top my son who used to live here and he was jealous. This is a great place in Gainesville. Seek it out if you are visiting Gainesville. This is my favorite place to eat when I'm on campus! Its a short walk from Library West. The Gyro platter is absolutely delicious and I order it every time. It comes with a heaping amount of grilled lamb, pita bread, french fries and Greek salad- $10 + tax. Their Tzatziki sauce is yummy and I always ask for extra sauce. The portions are generous, so you definitely will be full. I always share my platter with another person. I also like the baklava and cannolis! Service is good here and fast. Great quick lunch spot! One of the best Gyros I've ordered at a restaurant in the U.S., pleasantly surprised. Will for sure be heading back on our next Gainesville Trip. The bread was soft and fresh and the meat was of great quality. They didn't skimp you out on any food either.. the plates were full. The gyro meat is delicious, as good as the best Greek place you have been. The pita is great as well, as is the the tatzicki. The included Greek salad was also great. Don't sit in the restaurant itself, sit immediately outside of it in the hall. The store itself smelled bad, but that had little effect on the experience in the hall. So good! Got a gyro and fries--the gyro is well-balanced (if not a little salty) with a good amount of meat, and the fries came out super hot and crispy. They were seasoned with some rosemary, which was a nice touch. Food came out quickly. Expect to be full and I mean stuffed from any meal you order. The chicken schwarma was a very generous portion and priced adequately for what you get. Likewise the gyros are quite fulfilling and come in a variety of different styles. This 100% a mom and pop store. Occasionally the owner will take your order then retreat to the kitchen and yell at the husband or chef to start cooking the dish. If this environment doesn't fit the atmosphere you want, then you're missing out on home-made recipes. The Spot was not the spot for me, but it may be the spot for you. I normally love greek/Mediterranean food, but I found The Spot to be a little lack luster. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood when I went. Maybe I went on an off-day. What I ordered: Classic gyro. The meat was good (though lacked a bit of seasoning) and the tzatziki had a good balance of dill and lemon flavors. I didn't feel my other ingredients were particularly fresh/crisp. Eating the sandwich was also a challenge, and it fell apart into a mess. I think I would prefer the platter. Don't bother with the fries. Nothing special. Location vibes: Quaint feeling. The seating is patio furniture inside the plaza area. I liked that experience. I walked over from work, so I didn't have to worry about parking. It is great if you work for/near the university. Money matter: Very reasonable for dining out. My sandwich, fries and drink were about $9. It was way more food than I could eat, so you should come very hungry. Walking in, we were greeted warmly and given a few moments to look over the menu. We had read the other reviews about the excellent gyros and decided to give them a try. Glad we did! The meat was tender, flavorful and not greasy, and there was plenty of it. The Greek salad was wonderful, too. But OMG, the fries! The fries were crunchy and spiced just right and we loved them so much, we ordered more! Love the vibe here -- a brand new, spiffy place where you walk up, order your food, and sit down. They bring it to you. This place is right next to Cheese Daddy, and the two places share an indoor eating space filled with tables. Looks like there will be a few more restaurants opening here soon, and in one of the spots, a new Hyppo just opened (gourmet ice pops - see my review for one of their other locations!) This place will definitely be one of our new regular spots, cuz they have lots of different sandwiches, burgers and wings to choose from too. PARKING: Don't park in the garage (too expensive).
