Ordered catering - it was fantastic!! I can't speak for inside the venue (yet!), but we ordered a catering meal for 30+ at work and the spread (literally) was so impressive. They brought everything in with real dishes to serve on and tons of food. The gnocchi and truffle mushrooms were out of this world!! The brick chicken was delicious, fall off the bone... the flank steak was melt in your mouth. The roasted vegetables were perfectly seasoned and grilled. The salads had a great dressing and lots of fresh toppings. Overall, really impressed with the catering - the food was impeccable, the server who came was very attentive to the set up, and the entire staff was appreciative. I am looking forward to visiting the location in Norwalk... and also they just opened a location in Greenwich! read more

I made a reservation here for a group of 10 for a work dinner on a Wednesday evening. Even though we were running a little late, the staff was super nice and accommodating and assured us that our table would be ready. The best way that I can think to describe The Spread, is an American-style tapas bar. We tried a bunch of the small/medium places and as my entree I got the Endive Salad and a Mako Shark Taco. Both were very good. The endive salad had a lot of my favorite ingredients: apples, cranberries and white balsamic. Though I do wish that the apple were a little more flavorful, they did not seem very fresh and the taste was nearly lost. I also really liked all the tapas we tried. Some of my favorites: Brussel Sprouts, Truffle Fries, Burrata and Veal Ricotta Meatballs. read more

I really love The Spread in Sono. Service is always top notch- friendly with lots of staff to help. Excellent wine, cocktails, and consistently delicious food. Some dishes n shared plates have a fun and delicious modern twist. I had a delicioussss Rosé here for a while, but I think it got removed off their drink menu. But luckily there are many other good choices. I really love the Southern charm the small non-matching plates give.. when they serve you their delicioussss (!!!) homemade cornbread and butter to start! Yumm, yummm!! read more

We came for dinner on a Saturday at 6pm and tables were empty which was nice. It got crowded around 8pm which is typical for this area. My 3 star rating is due to the weak cocktails, small portions and waitress being clueless. Ordered a bourbon and tequila cocktail couldn't taste either alcohol in them and for $12 that's not what we expect. We ordered martinis afterwards bc at least you're sure there will be alcohol in them. We were seated after having a drink at the bar and were not seen for 10 minutes until I flagged down a waitress who said she's not ours but she will get the gentleman that is. 5 minutes later she came back and said she actually is our waitress and messed up. We ordered our drinks and decided to order all appetizers and meals in 1 shot in case she took forever again. The cauliflower and Brussel sprouts apps were ok. Brussel sprouts were better than the cauliflower as a recommendation. The menu is confusing as it has small, medium and large plates and that's just annoying. So obviously small plates are appetizer and large plates are entrees but what exactly are medium plates we ask. She says in between large and small entrees. Ok then so 2 of us ordered the octopus medium plate and the other people ordered a hanger steak and gnocchi. They never commented on the food being good, I didn't ask. My octopus was good but oh so not an entree (I'm a 5'2 female). Afterwards my fiancée and I went to another place to eat bc we were still hungry . Normally come here for take out because their dinner service is usually pretty slow. But this past Sunday we decided to actually come in for brunch BIG MISTAKE. We came in around 11:30, they had few tables and no hostess to greet us. Waiting around ten minutes we decided to ask the bartender if we could sit down. Their hostess was waiting tables? (Not entirely sure). Finally sat down and ordered drinks and food simultaneously, waiting over an hour for the food to be mediocre and cold. Huge waste of money and time. Overall, the place looks very cool coming in but service is horrendous and waiters unapologetic as they walked by without asking how we were. If I knew what a disaster my meal was going to be, I would've waited across the street for the hour- probably would've gotten out earlier. Won't be coming back, even got take out. *Giving 2 stars because their take out is good but would've given no stars after this. read more

The servers didn't seem to understand we wanted the oysters, apps, and entrees to come out separately, not all at once. Tonight my fiance happened upon this eclectic eatery in Norwalk. From the moment we entered I could tell it was our kind of place...tasteful decor, imaginative menu and seating available inside or out. It was a beautiful evening so we chose to dine outside. We were barely seated before a fresh carafe of water with glasses were placed on our table. Then our waitress arrived to take our drink order giving us a few minutes to peruse the dinner choices. My fiance chose fresh oysters as his appetizer while I sipped on a cold Michelob Ultra. Within 10 to 15 minutes our main course had arrived. He had selected fresh scallops over a bed of fresh greens and whole grains. I decided on fresh halibut with steamed vegetables. Both meals were prepared to perfection! Throughout the meal there were waiters always freshening our waiter glasses and clearing away any unnecessary dinner plates. The owner or manager ( honestly really not sure exactly what his role was ) stopped by many tables to check to be sure the patrons were enjoying their meals. He stopped by our table and engaged in a brief conversation in Spanish with my Chilean fiance! All in all it was a lovely experience! I am so glad the spread took over after Harlan closed. The layout is the same but it feels like a different place. They do still have the outdoor lounge in front of the entrance in the courtyard/traffic circle. Came here for a date night with a girlfriend - food was delicious, ambience is nice (warm and welcoming), staff was very accommodating and attentive, bill/cost wasn't outrageous for what we got. All in all, a suggestion as a great place for a small group of friends, casual date night with the SO or just even a drink alone at the bar. read more

Extremely disappointed by the customer service. My friends and I were looking forward to a great brunch but instead we were greeted by a very rude host. We kindly requested to be seated at a table with chairs, instead of high top bar stools with no back. An older gentlemen with a physical disability would be joining us. The host made a very big deal of this and made us feel beyond uncomfortable and unwelcome. By the way, as we looked around we saw at least 6 open tables with chairs available. When we told him we were going to leave he walked us right out of the door while rolling his eyes and scoffing. Spread is an unexpected find in SONO. The rose sangria was perfectly refreshing for a warm sunny day. The stuffed avacado with crab was excellent and was our favorite dish of the night. Go early as it sells out quick. The burrata is unique with tomato confit, roasted almond and and espresso balsamic vinaigrette giving it flavor and texture that burrata can be missing at other establishments. The roasted smoke shrimp was so unique it isn't like any shrimp dish you've had before. The steak tartar with quail egg was perfect. As good as we've had anywhere in town. For dessert, the flaming ice cream, wow! Delivered personally by the chef. The service was great, on the ball and the dishes were served with minimal wait. A wonderful thing when the movie theater is right next door and you are pressed for time. Our server Sean was fantastic. His recommendations and insights on the menu were so helpful, spot on and described the uniqueness of the dishes that the written menu just can't deliver. To the management, seriously, have Sean write the menu for you! The written menu doesn't read 10% as interesting as the dishes and chef's creations deserve and Sean described them. I'm not in love with the menu, I never know what to order but it's a nice place to come for drinks, small plates and a cool vibe. The first time I came I was blown away with how awesome this place was, just what Sono need. We ordered a bunch of random things that were all pretty good. I love the little lounging area when you walk in to the right. I've been here about 4 times and the service is great each time. The waiters are helpful and honest. They have a good DJ and it's a nice causal spot to hangout, take your time, talk loud and enjoy the night. I don't remember the name of the cocktail we all ordered here once, but it was deliciousssss. More recently the "special-ness" has faded for some reason, not sure why but I still really like this place. read more

Stopped in for brunch today and had a pretty solid experience. Cool atmosphere great sangria upon check in, and friendly service. The Alaskan Benedict with fries was delish. Eggs were cooked perfectly, the fries were hot and crispy and the salmon tasted fresh. I ordered the hollandaise on the side because I like it light and I was very satisfied. The grilled cheese was awesome and the kale salad was also quite tasty (though very simple, and pro tip- don't order the dressing on the side if you want to enjoy this salad, after all, kale begs for dressing.) Only disappointments were the fact that the chocolate banana crepe was served room temp and not hot (that's how the server intends) and the French press coffee (this is their regular coffee) was pretty bad. I'm gluten and dairy free, as well a pescatarian, so I appreciated how accommodating they were towards me and my order. I was asked by Yelp to rewrite, sorry no I was forced to rewrite my review of The Spread because "it lacked immense details of my dining experience". It also "fell outside the guidelines of Yelp". What really happened is the boys at The Spread and their friends didn't like what I had to say. So, without further ado, here goes....again. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- First Visit On my first visit to this establishment, I believe it was a cold, starry night. Not a creature was stirring not even a mouse. The bar had around 5 people in it and the dining room about 5 as well, give or take. I was introduced to two of the owners, by a mutual friend. Note, I am not friends with the owners or affiliated with The Spread in any way. I had a meatball sampler, I forget exactly what it was called, but it was cold and not very flavorful. Eh, we all have off nights. I'll be darned if there weren't 3 other restaurants doing the exact same dish. They say imitation is the best form of flattery. So be it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Second Visit Came back to try dinner with several of my friends. Service was kind of all over the place, but it wasn't bad enough to complain about. On this night we sat mid way in against the wall. For those of you that have never been here the restaurant has windows at the front that are completely open to the street. Sounds nice right? However when you allow smoking directly in front of the building, those big beautiful windows with billowing cigarette smoke coming in can really make you lose your appetite. That pretty much ruined it for me right there. The GM introduced himself and was kind enough to offer us their Beef Tongue small plate. The arugula was top notch. I'll leave it at that. I had the gnocchi and my wife had a fish dish but she can't remember exactly. It was not memorable Yelp...again sorry. Just a little honesty here. There's no rules against honesty, is there? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Third Visit I was literally dragged back by friends that were wanting to have drinks and apps. I don't drink so I had an app. More or less I had a couple of tacos, the brussel sprouts and the roasted beet salad. Again, I wasn't impressed. The dishes were again cold and the presentation was lackluster. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fourth Visit Oh joy!!!!! It's the holiday time again and I was invited to a Christmas Party. Guess where it was? My favorite place, The Spread. On this night I believe it was a custom menu, so I can't really remember everything that was served. And that's exactly my point. Nothing stood out and nothing was memorable. There were some mini sliders that were good and the only reason I remember them is because Barcelona makes them as well. That's the restaurant that's directly across the street from The Spread. The sliders were cold, but at least on this night the service was friendly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- As for the ambiance it's a bar with sports playing on two or three televisions to one side and a dining room on the other. It's all one big open room though. If you're a real foodie like me, I would not recommend this place. If you like a bar crowd, deejays after hours, cigarette smoke while you eat then this is your place. If you like amazing food, then keep looking. I'm glad they're a huge success in Norwalk, good for them. Best restaurant in Connecticut? I don't think so. How's that Yelp? I had high hopes for the spread. It is so disappointing when good food is overshadowed by poor service. I came with a group of six other adults on a Saturday night. I believe we were the first seating at 6:30pm. While I was last to arrive, the rest of our party was there on time and the first (my sister) checked in before the reservation time, around 6:20pm. Upon checking in, she was promptly informed by the host that another party had reserved the table for 8pm. She was turned off by the way she was approached; here we were, a large group looking forward to an enjoyable evening out. It set the tone, and not in a positive way. They made it clear that we needed to be out by a certain time, which was an unsettling start to our meal. Our party ordered a generous number of plates to share for our table, as well as cocktails and bottles of wine. The table was small for 7 adults, and it became a challenge to find space for our plates. So much so, that it made it difficult to enjoy our food. The waiter was friendly and helpful; however, the runners who brought our food out were disorganized and even aggressive in their service. Mid-bite, one of them practically shoved a plate right in front of my face! We ordered very generously, wanting to try all the noteworthy items..the beef tongue was delicious, but the octopus portion was small and failed to impress. Overall, the food was good, but it was difficult to enjoy when we were constantly trying to reorganize the table to make room for dishes and glasses. We had just received our dessert menus when the host/manager approached us. He started by asking us about our experience, but then proceeded to inform us that the next party had been waiting for our table and then PRESSURED us to finish up. We were certainly NOT lingering...we hadn't even ordered our desserts! Because of the small space, the waiting party was standing just a few feet away from us, staring us down while we hurriedly finished our food. I have no doubt that the manager didn't take any accountability for that party having to wait. The tension was palpable. We felt so uncomfortable that we passed on dessert and asked for our check. Our party all agreed that we will never be coming back to the Spread again. Perhaps management should reconsider their reservation process. Turning over a table of 7 adults on a Saturday night in 1.5 hours was obviously too ambitious and beyond their ability. We were certainly not at fault in any way for the pace of our meal. They should consider the experience of their patrons, over whether they can squeeze in one more check. The entire experience was insulting, to be honest. It was not our problem that they failed to manage their reservations properly. Essentially, we were told that we had overstayed our welcome and were pressured to leave. That was humiliating and completely ruined our night out. I never expected to be treated so poorly at a restaurant. Who do you think you are, the Spread??!!
