The tofu was plain but thoughtfully crumbled (?) so it wouldn't be as hard and tasted great with just the herbs and veggies. It tasted even better with the 2 dipping sauces (creamy sesame + sweet chili sauces which are included in each order. The marinated chicken was really flavorful and salted just enough without being too salty. Again, delish in its own but I doused mine in that chili sauce :D The rolls were brimming with julienned carrots, cucumber, bell peppers, tomatoes, and pieces of lettuce, perilla leaves, mint, cilantro, egg, and even avocado-- each bite definitely had a satisfying crisp without being too crunchy. It was almost a creamy mouthfeel, and I loved how fresh everything tasted! They come neatly packaged but beware that they fall apart at the end, so ready your spoon or fork to scoop up the filings! It's a ghost kitchen (no real storefront), but the person up front will ask you which store you're picking up from (SSam!). The staff member (Gary) came to hand me my order-- He was friendly and seemed thoughtful as he double-checked if I indeed did not meet utensils or napkins as listed on my order. The most popular menu item is the SSAM - a rice paper wrap filled with crispy vegetables and your choice of protein (spicy pork, beef, tofu, chicken). They also offer rice bowls and salads. Not only do I love both cuisines, but I also love a healthy meal. I decided to give it a try and my overall experience was just okay. Most likely a one time thing for me. First things first... They do not have a storefront. They operate as a ghost kitchen in Midtown Manhattan and share a commercial kitchen space with a few other businesses. They offer both pick-up and delivery. You have to place your order/pay online via one of their third party ordering systems. Their website/socials does not clearly state that they're a ghost kitchen and that they don't accept orders/payment in person. If I had known this, I would've saved a lot more time. Secondly... the service could've been better. I visited on a Friday evening. Upon walking in, you'll see a large counter for pick-up orders and then a few small tables to the side if you want to dine in. There was one employee at the counter. I was not greeted and she wasn't too helpful or engaging. I was initially confused because I didn't know you couldn't order in person. This was my first time ordering from a ghost kitchen, so excuse me if I'm SlOOOOoow... lol. So I scanned the QR code on the counter with my phone and placed an order for the bulgogi ssam ($16.49). It took around 20 minutes to get my food. The owner finally came out and I overheard him and the employee at the front discuss the delay in service. Apparently there was a miscommunication between the two... The owner was very nice and apologetic - he gave me a Korean grape soda on the house. I appreciated the gesture. As for the wrap... I don't think it was worth the ~$20 (including tax + tip). -The portion size is suitable for a healthy snack or light meal. If you're very hungry, this might not do it for you. Mind you, I'm a 5'1" 115 lb gal and I was still hungry after eating this. -The ratio of meat to veggies could be better. Too many crunchy veggies and not enough meat to balance it out. -The bulgogi (marinated beef) was not very flavorful and tasted bland. Was it even marinated??? -The veggies and other ingredients (egg, cucumber, carrot, apple, bell peppers, tomato, lettuce, avocado, onion, mint, cilantro, perilla leaf) were fresh. -What I did enjoy was the texture of the rice paper wrapper and the flavorful sauces. The wrapper was soft, chewy, and slightly sticky. Both the peanut sauce (peanut butter, soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, ginger, garlic) and the signature sauce (pineapple, fish sauce, garlic, chili, lemon) were very good. The peanut sauce was nutty, creamy, and savory while the signature sauce was a blend of tangy, sweet, fishy, and spicy. The sauces saved my wrap and added all of the flavor I needed. Overall, I did not taste the fusion of Korean & Vietnamese flavors. I really just felt like I was eating a Viet summer roll appetizer. The prices don't give you great value. While everything was delicious, I would have preferred fewer crunchy vegetables and perhaps something soft to diversify the texture. I cannot recommend enough! I popped in here by chance during a work trip and I actually received one of the best service experiences I've ever had in my life. The restaurant (ghost kitchen) itself was a little bare bones when I went because they had opened not too long before - but the owner himself greeted me when I came in, asked me what I typically like to eat and recommended items based on my answer, and then went back to the kitchen to make the food fresh himself. He said he had just hired one other employee and was actively teaching her as well. He checked in multiple times and let me try some other items I had never tried before. I was ordering for myself and one other person and ordered 3 ssams-- spicy pork, bulgogi, and marinated chicken. My personal favorite was probably the marinated chicken for a lighter protein option. The bulgogi was also very good and had more of an authentic korean profile with the perilla leaf inside. These were much more filling than expected. I was super confused walking into this place, it is a shared kitchen that also cooks Mexican food and Jersey Mike's oddly enough. Hard to find, it is across the street from a big AYCE Korean Bbq restaurant. When you walk in, it is a totally sterile environment and does not look like a restaurant. No signage or decor anywhere. I asked for a menu and they said they don't have one, you have to order online. The owner happened to be in the front and walk me through the ordering method. Apparently, this is a fusion cuisine that comes out of Korea and Australia somehow. I ordered a half-and-half Ssam roll. Half bulgogi and half spicy pork. They roll it up with fresh vegetables and egg in a rice paper wrap like a fresh Vietnamese spring roll. You then pour some sesame sauce and a pineapple spicy chutney that is ridiculously delicious. Absolute flavor bomb. The meat is so tender. Chewy texture of the spring roll wrapper and kick from sauces was amazing. If I lived here I would eat here weekly. I only had half of one of my bulgogi wraps with some of their rice chips and I was full but I ate another half because it was so good. The dips that came with the chips and the wrap were delicious! For the amount of food I got (I ordered a bulgogi wrap and the rice chips) for $20 this place is a great deal especially for this area. I was told that there is usually a sitting area to wait for the food but the building is currently undergoing some construction so that was not available.
