When I was in NYC a few weeks ago, this was my quick dinner stop on a night I was quite ravenous but didn't want to venture out too far. I loved the make-your-own concept but with a Thai twist most aren't used to. I got myself a plate of cabbage slaw topped with soft tofu and curry sauce, sweet potato with condensed milk, and a boiled egg. It was a unique combination of foods, but oh so good! I definitely got my protein in between the tofu and the egg. There aren't many places to sit inside, and it's probabaly more of a to-go place for locals, but nevertheless I enjoyed having my meal at one of the counters. read more

Kati Shop is the first fast-casual Thai eatery where you can customize your own curry platter. There's two Manhattan locations and a third opening very soon. Fingers crossed New Jersey is next!!! Y'all know I love a spot that's budget friendly, made with healthier ingredients, and still full of flavor. Kati Shop checks all three boxes! The menu is straightforward. You choose a base, a protein, a curry, and two sides. Everything is nut-free and gluten-free. Yep, you heard that right! The staff is friendly and helpful and will let you sample any of the four curries. My order: riceberry (base), lemongrass chicken (protein), massaman (curry), cucumber salad & mashed potatoes (two sides) ( ~$14). The platter hit the spot! The riceberry (purple-black jasmine rice) had a nutty flavor. The chicken was tender, but I couldn't taste much of the lemongrass seasoning. Not a big deal because the massaman curry was the star of the show! It was sweet, rich, and creamy with a fragrant blend of spices (cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, cumin). It's the most mild curry out of the four options, but it still brings a good amount of spice. The cucumber salad was refreshing, and the mashed potatoes were soft and buttery. To wash down your meal, I highly recommend trying one of their drinks. I've tried both the limeade Thai tea and home-brewed Thai tea. The Thai milk tea was made perfectly with a balanced blend of black tea, sugar, and condensed milk. It had a strong tea flavor with subtle notes of sweetness and spice. The limeade Thai tea (dairy-free) was a different take, but just as good. The fresh limes made the drink very refreshing and zesty. Seating is limited to a few stools at the counter tables, so this is more of a takeout spot. If you love the bold and aromatic flavors of Thai cuisine, but want a healthier and more balanced option, definitely give this a try! read more

Ambience was ordinary Got a chicken Thai plate . The green curry was fantastic . Really flavorful and tasty . Chicken was a bit dry ! Wish they fried it - which would have made it more flavorful . Kati Shop is a very good choice for a healthy and filling meal. The eatery is not large, but you could see that they serve a lot of take-out orders. My lunch consisted of the grilled salmon, on a bed of shredded cabbage, sweet potatoes, and cucumber salad. This was accompanied by a Panang Curry (dried red chili, shallot, galangal, kaffir lime). That curry was perfectly spicy and elevated each bite to an incredible level. I dipped every forkful into that deliciousness and it will be one of the things that will keep me coming back. read more

First of all, it was difficult to communicate with workers. :( second, the woman put only one scoop of curry to the rice that I've never seen.... :( oh really!! It wasn't enough for rice on the bottom.... This is for $12.99? There're some curry packed in the bag for less that this $ and more oz comes with. One woman who's done to me looked me so tired. I give another star because for atmosphere. Clean/self water service/napkins/restroom. Make sure if you're for take out, Enough curry on the top of the rice. But, the store should fix the portion of curry. they should poor at least 3-4 times. I hope management look for this review. I won't recommend their food. Love the food here. It's a fast casual Thai spot that serves multiple types of curry with lots of protein and side options. They have two locations, and this one is close to Bryant Park. Everything is super flavorful, and the curries all offer different nuances and heat level. I've tried the massaman and their house signature, and whole they're both delicious, I will warn that their house signature does bring the heat. One super fun thing is that they offer to to your mashed potatoes (if you choose that as a side) with massaman curry. It's the combination that I never knew I needed. I had this place bookmarked, so since I was in the area, I wanted to check it out around lunchtime. Once you enter, there's a curry aroma that surrounds you. It's nice but a bit strong. You know that you're in the right place. There's a rope that tells you where to stand on the line, so there are directions unlike other places. On the line, there are workers who serve you in a row as you go along. Based on what you order as a protein and other extra items that you get, that is what you get charged. I got the Jasmine Rice as my base out of two choices. For the protein, I got steak, and after that, I got a curry to put over the protein and base. My meal at Kati Shop was sensational. I ordered from here for the first time this week. The menu is simple and focuses on Thai-style curry over rice with a healthy blend. The meals are tray style and come with your choice of two sides. I ordered the lemongrass chicken with massaman curry. Massaman curry is my favorite style of Thai curry and it usually has potato in it but I actually preferred that this one did not. It was sweet and spicy but not too spicy for me. It was also very rich and paired well with the lemongrass chicken. Easily one of the best massaman curry dishes I've had. For my sides I ordered the somtum slaw and larb mushroom. These were both simply prepared (no oils or dressings) but they were good. In my takeout order I specified that I wanted my rice packed separately from the chicken (which I understand is different than the "over rice" concept). They didn't quite understand my note but when I came to pick up the order, they were happy to fix it. The store itself is pretty small with some counters to eat. I probably would stick to takeout. After hours of traveling from LA to NY, my first real meal was at Kati Shop, and it did not disappoint. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, even letting my fiancée and me sample the different curry flavors before we made our final choice. I ended up getting the coriander steak on a bed of riceberry, which was very fluffy. I went with a half-and-half mix of the Kati Signature sauce (which, albeit spicy, had the perfect spice level) and the Massaman sauce. On the side, I had a refreshing cucumber salad and Somtum slaw (papaya salad). The flavors of the dish were incredibly robust, but heed the staff's warning about the spiciness of the Kati sauce! I found myself chugging the water I brought and even asked for a couple of glasses from the restaurant. Overall, an excellent dining experience--definitely worth the stop! read more

Order was available promptly and the food was great. I ordered their kati signature curry with lemongrass chicken, cucumber salad, and larb mushroom ($12.40). Tasty, solid Thai flavors with a very nice spice level. Food portion was good and it also didn't feel too heavy (fried with a lot of batter, too oily, etc.). Echoing a lot of other reviews: The staff were friendly, polite and fast; the food was of high quality. Kati Shop follows the same build-your-own-plate / choose-your-own-adventure format as Just Salad, Dig Inn, Chipotle, and just about every other fast-casual lunch place in NYC. At the spotlessly clean glass counter in the back, you choose a base, protein, sauce and two sides. I had: - Salmon over shredded cabbage -- the fish was reasonably moist and fresh, a 3/4 inch wide slice, the cabbage fresh and crisp, not seasoned in any way. - House sauce -- If Bangkok street food were a 10, this would be an 8. It was legitimately spicy with a hint of coconut milk, but a touch acrid from I think un-tempered turmeric. - Larb mushrooms -- These were full of wonderful lemongrass flavor and beautifully marinated. I would return just for these. - Kale salad -- The kale was fresh, but a bit tough (not massaged to tenderness the way we like to make it at home) and either underdressed or not dressed at all. There are a few tables and some counter seating if you wish to eat in. The space is pretty and neat, full of light coming in through the glass front on my visit. But if you do choose to take out, the environmentally-friendly thick paper trays will last a few hours in the fridge even with damp ingredients if you have leftovers. With tax and tip (and no drink), the meal added up to around $18 -- not inexpensive, but also not unreasonable for midtown. Adding this to the lunch rotation. read more

Can't describe how nice it was to find this spot! The fact that everything is gluten and dairy free makes eating here with allergies easy and worry free. It was so delicious, I kept having to re-read the sign to assure myself I wasn't eating something I shouldn't! This is a really solid place to get some good Thai curry and tea! I came here for a weekday lunch and got the Kati Signature curry with chicken, larb mushroom, and kale salad. And, of course, a Thai tea. Yes. You read correctly. The Kati Signature. Like 5 chili pepper symbols compared to a measly 2 or whatever for the next highest level. The kind lady who was serving me warned me about the spice, and instead of taking it for the wise suggestion that it was, I got a little offended and insisted on the Kati Signature. Sigh. Thankfully when I was eating it later, my back was turned toward her so she didn't see me cough-sniff-cry my way painfully through my meal. One Thai tea was not enough to quell the heat. Would recommend ordering at least 2 unless your tongue no longer has any nerves. The curry tasted really good under all the pain, and the sides were pretty good too. My only complaint was that some sides were not available. I was also very impressed with the flavor and color of the Thai tea - apparently no artificial food coloring is used and it is all natural! My new favorite dinner spot to include in the rotation! The food is fresh and tastes clean / healthy! I felt great after eating my salmon bowl. I chose the purple rice which was great, and for my two sides: kale salad and the mushrooms. The kale salad was good and didn't have too much dressing. I would probably skip the mushrooms and try another side next time, but the salmon was AMAZING. Cooked so perfectly and very juicy! I also loved the Penang sauce I got to put on top. Really is a very unassuming little place imagine that could very well be a subway but with classic thai curries and three or four protein options. The premise is you build your plate with One of the four protein options, 4 Curries , two different kinds of rice and then you're two side veggies. There are some drink options as well from Thai iced tea to lemonade and some kombucha. I went with the green curry and the spiciest of the red. You can mix and match about which is an option. Definitely glad I stopped it on this place rather than walking 20 more feet to chick a filet The folks behind the counter are super friendly and would check in on me. I have ordered delivery several times from Kati Shop both at home and work and absolutely love it. Last night I introduced my partner to it. He is always skeptical of a make-your-own-bowl/plate style establishment, and when the food arrived and he saw the plates with separate sections for the sides, I don't think he was expecting much-- but after a couple of bites he, too, was like "wow!" This isn't the most traditional Thai place with the most extensive menu, but it's not trying to be, and I love that. The food is a bit lighter and feels healthier than the things we usually order at our other favorite Thai restaurants, but at the same time is not lacking in flavor AT ALL. Having been a fan for a while, I can specifically speak to the deliciousness of quite a few things: -Coriander steak- lovely quality meat, beautifully cooked and seasoned; -Lemongrass chicken- great flavor, generous portion, very white meat but not too dry; -Organic tofu- great texture, and the sesame seeds are a nice touch; -Green curry sauce- very rich, spicy, and authentic- and smartly served on the side, so the food is not drowning in it; -Shredded cabbage- a great meal base when you're trying not to go crazy with the carbs; -Boiled egg with prik num pla- sauce is dangerously spicy but so good; -Larb mushroom- one of the better mushroom preparations I have ever had; and finally, -Mashed potatoes with massaman curry- whoever thought to combine these two things is a true genius. The ultimate comfort food. The next time I am in a bad mood I may just order and consume several sides' worth of these potatoes because they are guaranteed to put a smile on your face. read more
