The Standard is truly anything other than standard. A fine dining experience on East 185th street with excellent food, great customer service, and beautiful atmosphere. I love that this place is in my neighborhood and that I get to stop by at the drop of a dime knowing that I will have a delicious meal. I personally enjoy coming by myself and taking a seat at the bar. Their bourbon smash is one of the best I've ever had and I always get it. They also have an extensive wine list. The menu is a fusion between Moroccan and Italian cuisine. They have a ton of lamb dishes which is right up my alley. I think I've tried them all. My fave is the lamb risotto. The shank is soooo tender and the risotto is full of cream and flavor. The Moroccan spices really elevate each dish. I've also tried the lamb couscous, which is tasty also. Today I tried a Moroccan lamb sausage that was on the appetizer menu. Again, the Moroccan spices made it delicious. I also had the burrata salad. I will say that the tomatoes were a bit soft for my liking for this type of salad. However, they did put some type of spice mixture on top, which made it very flavorful and made up for the soft tomato's. I typically expect an heirloom tomato to be pretty sturdy. Their bread service is phenomenal: two soft dinner rolls, with a trio of hummus, olive tapenade, and oil and balsamic vinegar, that comes with every entree. It's truly irresistible. I love this place and have never had a bad meal here.

Beautiful ambiance as soon as you walk in and it flows thru the restaurant onto the patio. I ordered the bouillabaisse de Marseille. The saffron broth definitely made up for the unseasoned seafood in the dish. Friends ordered the bay of fundy salmon and one of the specials, mediterranean shrimp pasta. We also ordered a bottle of sauvignon blanc wine and it was perfect, crisp and clean. I can hardly wait to come back

I absolutely love this place. Such a beautiful little hidden gem. Beautiful ambience. Tucked in a place I would never expect. Great seafood selection and wonderful bartenders. They make a great espresso martini and that's all I ever made. There's only street parking and that's really the only downfall of this place. Other than that, I would recommend again and again.

Hidden gem! Food is always great and the portion sizes are pretty big even when ordering takeout. Nice ambiance in the front dining area but it fills up quick sometimes so I'd recommend making a reservation. Luckily the back patio is usually open no matter the season (enclosed & heated in the winter of course). Great date night place!

This restaurant has been on my to go to list for a few years now and I'm happy I finally got an opportunity to try it out. The neighborhood isn't the greatest and the exterior isn't too flashy but the inside and patio are very welcoming. The patio is actually very nice and maybe one of the little hidden gems in Cleveland. There's an outdoor covered bar and all the patio seating is covered. Table bread was served with tapenade, olive oil and balsamic, and an assortment of olives and cheese. We went through two servings. It was great. We decided to order an app and got the shrimp au gratin. Wow, what a home run this was. I've never had anything just like this, and it was everything I didn't expect. The shrimp was sizable, the mushrooms were tasty, and cheese cream sauce was perfect. Dip your bread in the cream and you have a happy face. The short rib entrée may be one of the best cuts of short rib I've ever had. I was definitely impressed. We also got the lamb shank and risotto meal and it was also pretty good. The only low point of the night - service was a little slower than average. But it was a great time overall and I'll be back.

Came back for a second time. Everything was just as good. Sat in the open deck this time, quite nice. We enjoyed the food just as much the service was great as expected.

I thoroughly enjoyed the culinary experience at the Standard. It is tucked into an unsuspecting area of Cleveland and is truly a gem. They accept reservations and appeared to have ample seating inside, outside covered and outside uncovered. The menu is truly a culinary experience. The 4-star recommendation is based on the menu being eclectic and not offering a few more simple/basic menu options for those that may not be adventurous with their palate. Luckily our group was open to the adventure and enjoyed our selections. The drinks were great, staff was amazing, and food was awesome. Everything was well prepared, seasoned just right, and delicious. I wish I had left more room for dessert options or if they offered a dessert flight. Everything was great and I highly recommend.

    Thank you

We arrived on time. The parking was $3.00. The restaurant is in an old carriage house on the campus of Case Western Reserve University. We were placed in a the back room near a mini door by a window and a view of the patio garden. The inside was very nice. I am a bit claustrophobic so I sat with my back to the corner while my husband had a view of the corner. Fortunately, he could see the patio which he liked. The other downside, was the couple of flies that kept buzzing to and fro around the window, We joked that we wanted inside on the nice late afternoon / early evening to avoid bugs. Hahaha. We laughed at that too as our week had us on Lake Erie covered with midgies one day and then biting flies a few days later. Gotta laugh, but I digress. L'Albatros! Our server Kyle and the team did a great job! We had water, bread with olive oil, as needed. We started with cocktails and the "French Toast". My husband enjoyed a nice white wine and I had the L'Albatros Original ( Absinthe, Lime, Pineapple, Mint ). I loved the cocktail, it was just a tad sweet, but the flavor was super ! The "French Toast" was a substantial slice of French toast covered with ragout of wild mushrooms and balsamic syrup and micro greens and shaved parmesan. It was lovely. My husband LOVES mushrooms, so this was perfect. For our mains, he ordered the shrimp pasta. Kyle shared that the cream sauce is made with Pernod, which my husband is not a fan of Anise/ black licorice,so he would not enjoy. Kyle offered that they could do a vodka cream sauce instead. This was a much better option for him and he really enjoyed. I ordered the Root Vegetable Cassoulet. It was topped with some breadcrumb mixture. It was the least successful part of the dish. While I normally like a crumble, this has an odd texture. The root vegetables were perfectly cooked and the sauce was delicious. For dessert, my husband ordered cheesecake. I had a bite and it was tasty. I ordered a cappuccino and it was made perfectly. Definitely a place we would both be happy to return to. Well done service, food and ambiance!

The braised beef was tender, but again, it felt pretty average and didn't have that wow factor you expect from a higher-end French restaurant. For what it cost, I expected something more impressive. The biggest miss for me was dessert. The strawberry balsamic cheesecake just didn't work at all. The balsamic flavor completely overpowered everything, and I honestly hated it. It was one of those desserts where a few bites were enough. Overall, the meal wasn't terrible, but I left feeling very underwhelmed, especially considering the price. There are plenty of places where I'd happily spend that kind of money, and this just didn't feel worth it.

An absolutely fantastic visit today…read more Our daughter is moving out of town, and for her "going-away" dinner she wanted one more visit to Cru. What a wonderful choice it turned out to be. From beginning to end, this was truly a remarkable dining experience. Every time we visit, it seems like both the food and the service continue to get even better. We had reserved a table on the outdoor patio and were seated promptly. We absolutely love the patio--its ambiance is second to none and, in our opinion, it's one of the best outdoor dining spaces in the city. This time, we decided to keep things light and ordered a selection of appetizers, a cheese board, and desserts. Since the menu changes four times a year, there's little point in listing every dish, as they'll likely be different by the time someone reads this review. A huge compliment goes to the entire kitchen staff. Every appetizer was beautifully prepared, and they even made a special zucchini blossom for our daughter, which was a wonderful surprise. A special thank you also goes to the pastry chef. The three desserts were outstanding, and the personal touch of writing "Good Luck in Chicago" in chocolate on one of the dessert plates made the evening even more memorable. We also want to recognize both sommeliers. During a previous visit, one of them had prepared an incredible house-made bar nut mix that we still talk about. We asked whether it was still available, and although he explained it was no longer on the menu, he went out of his way to prepare it for us on the spot. Our daughter absolutely loved it. Our second sommelier (whose name I unfortunately forgot) was equally wonderful. She took the time to recommend several excellent Pinot Grigios after my daughter asked for suggestions, and her knowledge and enthusiasm were greatly appreciated. Finally, a heartfelt thank you to our server, Julie, who provided warm, attentive, and professional service throughout the evening. She helped make an already special occasion even more enjoyable. As we were leaving, my daughter summed it up perfectly: "This was probably my favorite visit out of all the times we've been here." For a restaurant we've enjoyed many times over the years, that's about the highest compliment we could give. Thank you to everyone at Cru for making our daughter's farewell dinner so memorable. We wish you continued success and can't wait for our next visit.

We were able to try a variety of dishes, and everything felt thoughtfully prepared and made from scratch. Standouts for us included the vol-au-vent with escargot, rosti, filet mignon, scallops, sea bass, and the rich, creamy French onion soup. The flavors were well-balanced, the presentation was colorful, and some elements even had a fun, interactive touch (like the Parmesan crisp). One thing that sets this place apart is how versatile it is. It offers a bar area with happy hour, a strong cocktail and mocktail selection, and French-inspired bar bites like mussels and steak. There's also a more formal dining room for a sit-down experience, plus a private dining space available (free Mon-Wed, fee the rest of the week). They've also recently opened a café next door, which is worth checking out on its own--great selection of pastries, macarons, crepes, and coffee, along with wines, cheeses, and other French specialties. The atmosphere is elegant but still comfortable, and the service was attentive and professional throughout our visit. Overall, a great hidden gem whether you're looking for a casual drink, a full dinner, or even just coffee and dessert. We'll definitely be back.
