We came here last Saturday for dinner. It was pretty busy, but we were seated on the patio relatively quickly. I was a bit worried about it getting cold, but they had plenty of outdoor heaters so it was okay. I don't remember the name of our server, but she was very friendly and checked up on us often. We ordered the Mac n Cheese with bacon and Fish and Chips; both were delicious! The Fish and Chips were not the best that we have had, but they were still very good. My husband swears by the service at the bar, but I've been twice now and the table service is lacking. Both times we haven't been checked on in a reasonable time frame after receiving our meals, drinks forgotten, servers switched out, and both times I received my drink after our appetizers. The staff is just kind of blah, it's like they're renting a great location and they all have this, "if you build it, they will come," attitude. And people do come, their cocktails are good, their food is just okay, but there's nothing good enough for me to want to come back regularly. Having been a longtime regular at the state's location in Redlands I didn't think any place could top it however the states location and Rancho just my do that. When you first step in and look up the amazing decor of The Birdcage chandeliers their bar that is almost the size of the Redlands location and the unique community sink outside the restrooms is amazing and to top it off they have these huge doors in the front of the building that fling all the way open and just allows the Cool Breeze to greet you and opens the place up tremendously. The staff is so friendly you would think you're at a white tablecloth restaurant and the food you are partaking is so delicious and presented self on the plate you would think that you are down in Beverly Hills at the W Hotel. It is so amazing what the owners and management staff have created that I believe the Rancho location is going to be the place everybody looks forward to when they make their way out to Victoria Gardens and living 30 minutes away I can tell you that it will be worth the extra Drive every time just to come out and enjoy their new restaurant. Congratulations to Billy and Michael and the rest of the management staff and everybody that had any part in creating the new location you guys have really outdone yourself and you guys are what every business every restaurant should look at when they are training their staff and how you guys create such a warm environment that I wish I didn't have to leave every time I do have to leave so thank you guys for another amazing meal and I know there will be more to come and if you are reading this as a yelper you will not regret coming to the state. read more

The state always caught my attention when strolling at the Victoria Gardens. I was honestly disappointed. I went there for an expresso martini and it tasted like they put vodka in some overnight brewed coffee. I also ordered a salad band somehow it was SALTY! How is a salad salty. Not to mention there was a long wait that of course was not accurate... The waiter was also not attentive. They kept switching waiters on us without prior given notice. LITERALLY A MESS. Will not come back here but worth a shot. Maybe I just ordered the wrong things because my friends burger did look delicious; I am just not a burger person... I was told it's a 90 minute time limit from when I get seated. Not really understanding that as long as I'm spending cash but okay. The burger wasn't bad, it was just forgettable and not worth the price we paid for it. If I'm paying almost $20 for a burger, I hope it'll be worth it. My family and I were seated right away on the patio along with our three rowdy dogs. The restaurant is stunning. I'd love to one day check out the bar as well. Great environment and atmosphere with very friendly staff and wide-range, great portions of delicious food for a decent price. The State is the type of place to bring a big group of people. I'd definitely return. Dugan was our waiter and probably the most attentive server we've ever encountered. He was honest, vigilant, and consistent. He constantly checked on us, refilling our water, removing empty plates, and delivering our food in a timely manner. On top of that, he brought water/and refilled the bowls with water for our dogs. Very considerate. Thank you, Dugan! They have daily specials, and all-day happy hour on Monday's. Although tonight, I come in, I asked for a seat at the long table by the entrance, the host said she can't seat me there because there was a wait list. Well there was no one waiting, I go sit at the bar, and I was there over an hour and that table was still empty. So what wait list? I ended up getting two drinks, the same I order everytime but somehow I got charged more than every other time I've been there and the receipt says $4 up charge for each drink. ????? For the management team, I don't know what's up with this, but for a person that comes in all the time, this is how you lose loyal customers that know how it works and the prices but then this is the service I get. Brought the family to try The State for lunch. Food: Ordered the poutine as an appetizer to share with the table. Fries were crispy, gravy was good and everyone enjoyed it. I got the spicy burger, which was seasoned and cooked well. It had just the right amount of heat and was not overpowering. My wife got the fish & chips, which she thought were very good. Crispy and light. Don't know if they make their own tartar sauce but my wife said it was very good. Daughter got the mac& cheese, which she enjoyed and my boy did the State burger. I was going to bitch that my son's burger was underdone until he told me he actually ordered it mid-rare (yuck). Overall we had a pleasant experience at The State. If I had to gripe, the service was a little slow for not being very busy (Wednesday afternoon around 1:30) and the appetizer plates they brought us were dirty. Plate problem was corrected quickly with clean ones. I'll come back to The State but I think I would enjoy it more as a dinner and cocktails type of destination. read more

New favorite spot! I loved everything about this place: the decor, the music, the fact that the exterior wall is made of glass doors, the food & the drinks (I mean that's the bigger point, right?). We decided to try this place out last night, conveniently during happy hour. We ordered the bacon wrapped dates & brussel sprouts; bourbon & lemonade (4 happy hour dollars) and moscato; the state burger, caprese sandwich, & mac n cheese + bacon. Everything tasted great! We loved how many vegetarian options there were on the menu and the way the libations menu was arranged which made figuring out what to try less difficult (my cousin didn't have to ask whether or not a certain cocktail was sweet or not--appreciated). OMG!!!!!!! By far the best food and service!! We came in Sunday for Father's Day and it was a non forgettable experience. My server was Rene, and I will say it was the best service I have had in a long time. He cracked dad jokes with us the entire time and completely made me and my family feel extra welcomed, even with the 100degree weather outside. We will definitely return and ask for him. Let me start by saying that I'm not a huge American food fan. I like my meals packed with flavor and spices, so I wasn't expecting much when some friends decided on this place. Things we got: 1. Pesto Chicken Sandwich- it had tons of nice flavor and the chicken was so tender and delicious. Also came with a small side salad, which was a nice touch. 2. Nutella Grilled Cheese- I know. It sounds disgusting, but they use dessert cheese and the brioche was so crispy. Definitely a nice twist and tasted more like French toast to me. Bottom line, I LOVED it and highly suggest everyone trying this. 3. Drinks- all the ones we got were very well made. My bf's whiskey sour came out looking like a super fancy drink, so they do take their drinks seriously. I loved the layout of the restaurant and how spacious it was. However, they do have a system where you can put your name down and get texts sent to you so that made it more efficient. I've been here about 4 times and have always had a good experience when it came to the service and food. Last night was a little different. We went in for a birthday dinner, my husband made reservations a week and a half prior as we knew we had a large party, 15 to be exact. I want to be specific we had reservation for 7pm and there were 4 people at the host stand. There was one female wearing a mask I wish I would gotten her name but she was the only one wearing a mask. So I'm sure when the owners read this they will know who it is. Anyway my husband let her know we were there and she starts telling my husband that they tried to call us to tell us that our weren't going to seat us until later because it was crowded and my husband said someone did just call me and asked if we wanted inside or outside and it wasn't mentioned that it was going to be later than our reserved time and she snapped at my husband and said that's why I'm trying to tell you now. I'm sorry, isn't a reservation for a specific time to reserve a space for a specific time? You may want to school your hostesses on what that is. Let me correct that, she was the only rude one the others were kind but that might not be the best position for her. Then my girlfriend brought a cake that needed to be refrigerated and my husband asked them if they could put the cake in the fridge and she told my husband no they don't do that unless it's ice cream. My gf ended up asking and explaining we didn't know we were going to be outside when we had originally with the reservation asked to be inside so they eventually said they would hold the cake. Thank you for accommodating holding the cake when you couldn't accommodate our original reservation. This may be a teaching moment for the hostess I'm sorry we can't seat you, so we can hold your cake for you. Anyway they told us if we wanted inside we would have to wait 40 min after our reservation so we opted to sit outside. Once seated they made sure to let us know we needed to be out within 90 minutes. Wow. They put some outside tables together and there was an older woman there that was trying to be accommodating. And our waitress was fine. But every other person that came out yo bring food to the table or any drinks to help the waitress seemed like they were miserable to be there. Not sure if they hate their jobs or they ALL were having bad days. Super uncomfortable when you can tell people do not want to help you or are unhappy. Here's a clue if you don't want to help or assist anyone maybe don't have a job in the service industry. Food was great I have nothing bad to say about that. But I won't return to an establishment that provides terrible servicing. I would take mediocre food with great service over great food with bad service any day of the week, month, year. Rancho has needed something like this for a LOOOOONG TIME! My wife and I were here the day they opened and we're really impressed! The entire front side of the restaurant is sliding doors that open up to the outside.. the lighting, the ambiance, the modern rustic feel, the music, everything about the way this place looks and feels is amazing! We had the Drunken Pig Burger (hands down, one of the best burgers we've ever had) and the bacon wrapped dates (again, delicious!!) The drink selection is really good: they carry some IPA's that we've never had that were pretty tasty! I'd recommend the Avery or the Bootlegger.. For the service, everyone is extremely friendly and attentive.. and especially for being brand new, they've done a phenomenal job training their staff how to take care of their customers, without any major issues.. we ordered a side of ranch that never came, but I'm in the service industry, so I completely understand that things happen.. It didn't stop us from coming back again the next night with a group of our friends lol! They're also open later than most of VG, which is nice for those of us that want to have that LA nightlife experience without having to drive to LA!! Keep it up guys! We were underwhelmed by the fact the chicken was just tiny bite sized pieces of chicken. We were expecting a good portion like a breast or thigh. The flavor was just ok. Fennel Sausage Hash: I subbed with egg whites. The sausage tasted like bits of ground meat with fingerling potatoes, and cooked onions. This dish also could've used more flavor. It was a bit on the plain side. Truffle Burger: This was the best thing we ordered. It doesn't beat an Umami Burger truffle Burger, but it was pretty good. The patty had lots of flavor. The bun was a little bit on the dry side and the fries were a little over cooked for my taste. For brunch, I'd say this is a miss. Perhaps coming for lunch or dinner is a better option read more
