The State is pretty good! This was my second time going to their happy hour (Mon-Fri 11am-6pm). I got their bacon wrapped dates for $7 and spinach & artichoke grilled cheese for $10, both of which were delicious! The service was okay this time around. The hostesses seemed annoyed and didn't even smile or greet us upon entry, then printed the menus and walked towards the tables without letting us know they'll be seating us. We were initially seated at the back of the restaurant, where it's very very dark. It does go with the restaurant's speakeasy vibes though. We then requested to move to the patio for some light, which they accommodated. We also requested to open the floor-to-ceiling windows, which interestingly enough, they said they could not (it was sunny and cool with no rain or wind). It was different given that we've attended their happy hour with open windows before and loved it. read more

Can only speak for the drinks and ambiance as we stopped in here for pre dinner drinks. It was wine Wednesday (house wines 6$ a glass!) which was a solid deal. Some of us got the girl next door which was recommended by the bartender as the most popular drink (def recommend it was SO good). The ambiance was intimate and modern, there's a more indoor section and a second section with open seating outdoors. A wonderful place for great daily deals and happy hour!!! We got their burgers and spinach artichoke grilled cheese with a side of onion rings and wowwww. Such great quality for the happy hour price! Fresh crispy onion rings and both juicy burgers and sandwiches--absolutely delish. A highlight I would mention is their coffee old fashioned. I've only gone for the Happy hour so far. Once with a friend and twice solo. They have a fantastic HH menu and 1/2 price wine Thursday. I've been there for taco Tuesday and it was delicious. The hamburgers are incredible and I also had a grilled cheese sandwich with artichoke and spinach and it was so tasty and I reheat it half at home bar staff is so incredibly kind. The service was attentive and quick; however, from the moment you walk into The State, DO NOT expect to enjoy your meal. Tonight, 12/29/2025, the restaurant kept its outdoor patio area wide open to the back of the indoor dining room. Cold air blew constantly through the restaurant as we tried to enjoy our meal. It's 53°outside! No matter where you are seated, you must endure whatever the outdoor temperature is. Making your diners miserable keeps them eating and hurrying out in order to make room for more uncomfortable people. To make matters worse, The State kept all of their ceiling paddle fans running helping to make the room even colder. The food, the food? The food was good but cooled off much faster because the dining room was unheated. If you choose The State, make sure you take your food home where you can eat it in comfort. read more

Every time we visit our daughter, we come to this area to try a new spot. As usual, we didn't get to the place we intended lol. This was a better hot than the last place we tried so that was good haha We came visited The State on a Friday night around 11pm for snacks and drinks. It was busy and most tables were full but there was hardly a wait. We were seated and told to use the QR code for the menu. I actually prefer this menu method. Except I forgot my phone so I kept having to look other peoples shoulders lol A server came over after a couple minutes to say our server would be over in a bit, she was his trainee for the night. Nice to have a heads up. She eventually made her way over and took our drink order. I like that they have the drinks organized by category like refreshing, sweeter, tropical, etc. That first round of drinks seemed to take foreverrrr to arrive. Fortunately they were all good, except the Lucille Ball tasted mostly of oj and not much vodka. Midway through our drinks, the food arrived (and we immediately ordered another round of drinks since they took so long). The bacon wrapped dates were *really* sweet but ok. The bruschetta should have been more toasted but had a nice balsamic drizzle. The short rib tacos were the star. But be warned those fresh serrano peppers are hottt! I immediately got heartburn but that bit was worth it. Our next round of drinks came after we were done with our food which was a bummer. We ended up foregoing anything else due to the wait. I would recommend this place for dinner but not for brunch. I've been twice now and the food is sub-par and comes out cold. They don't offer bottomless mimosas and the other drinks are just OK. Definitely go and try the meatballs though, they are fantastic! read more

The breakfast sandwich was so bad! The bun was so soggy and wet that it literally fell apart on my first bite. It was so awful tasting as well. I took two bites and that was too many. The food is amazing! I had the side Caesar salad that comes as a wedge and it was seriously the best Caesar I've ever had and I've had a lot! I also ordered the avocado lettuce wraps and it was super yummy. My hubby ordered the Bourbon Bacon burger and neither of us can stop thinking about that food! Ambience was nice but the patio is super echoey when the windows are closed. A bit loud but the food made it all worth it. First time here, came with friends who have been here before it was remodeled. I thought the inside was very nice, not too dark. We started off with poutine fries. They were incredible. Not "authentic" poutine but the flavor was so good it didn't matter. They were piping hot. The meat was tender and juicy. The cheese was perfectly melted, and the gravy was the right amount to not cause the fries to be overly soft. In our group there was two drunken pig burgers, spicy patty melt, and Lobster Mac n cheese. I got the lobster Mac n Cheese, and it's the reason my review is 4 stars and not 5. The cheese was too "wet" so it kinda sat at the bottom of the bowl instead of coating the noddles. Not sure if this is why it felt bland. I actually had to ask the waiter to bring salt. I had a bit of my husbands burger and his onion rings. Incredible. The meat is pretty smoky flavored and so juicy without being messy. The onion rings were probably my favorite. Literally the BEST onion ring I've ever had. The friends really enjoyed their food too. The crust on the patty melt was the star. I didn't know what to expect after reading Yelp reviews. Came here for bday brunch and this place gets 5 stars for playing all the rnb jams! It was a party of about 14 and we were seated on the patio area. The server was very attentive for a large party. I ordered the State burger and Love potion 9 drink. The drink was perfect not too sweet and def packed a punch. I enjoyed it. The burger was great and I got onion rings instead of salad for $1 more. The onion rings are beer battered and delicious! So, I went to The State on Saturday 11/08 at around 1045 a.m. I planned on just having 1-2 drinks and some lunch. I was greeted by the hostess and was told they only had one server so there would be a little wait. I said that was fine and asked if I could go to the bar, grab a drink, and sit out on the patio/window seat. She said I could do that and that the server would be with me shortly. Well, I sat in the window seat sipping my whiskey on the rocks and was never greeted by the server and/or even acknowledged for 45 minutes. The server was a middle-aged gal with white/blonde hair...I didn't get her name. People around me had been greeted and served or at least given some water. O.k., it's whatever, I've had crappy service their before so no biggie. Then, I placed my near empty drink glass in front of my chair and put a napkin over the top and a makeshift coaster on top as to "say" I'm coming back. Right, that's the protocol I believe? I went to the restroom, and, upon my return, there were two people sitting where I was and my glass was gone. Now, I'm like WTF? So, I sat there again waiting for service. Ten minutes went by and still nothing. I went to the bar and grabbed another drink and went back to my window seat. All the while, everyone around me got drinks and food served to them. I drank my 2nd glass of whisky and realized I wasn't going to get service! Was it because I went to the bar and brought my drink into the "server's" area? IDK, that shouldn't have been a reason to give me horrible fkn service. Then, on my way out, the middle aged white haired server had the audacity to loudly yell, from the hostess' podium, "have a nice day." Here's the thing, someone there needs to read a book on customer service and ensure the entire staff is moderately aware of the standards. I'll easily take my business down the street to Don Orange, Darby's, etc. and bring my ppl with me! BTW, I went over the Hate Burger and had a delicious double smash burger. read more

First time coming to the restaurant and I was super impressed! We had a huge party of 20 and we were seated right away. Our server was great and super polite. He knew about everything on the menu and could give you answers to any question you could think of. Ambiance is super cool with TVs above the bar. I had a vodka sour and it was delicious. The food came quickly and everyone was super happy with their meals. I can't wait to come back here to try more cocktails and food! Only thing that brings this place to four stars was the fact we were seated at the table in the middle with high barstools. Some of us had black unsteady cushioned chairs that weren't that great. I was surprised The State wasn't as busy on a Saturday night. I made a reservation with ease and was seating quickly. For an appetizer, our server recommended the Fried Brussel Sprouts and it was much more than we expected. The goat cheese dip added the perfect tartness to the apple cider reduction. I've ordered the Pesto Chicken Sandwich in the past and absolutely loved it. However, when I ordered it tonight I noticed the bread wasn't as fresh and almost stale. Most of the food on this menu was excellent. I didn't think the spicy chicken sandwich was my favorite, but the burgers are excellent as our many of the appetizers. They have a happy hour, which is also great for small bites. Definitely a great place to get a cocktail or a beer if you prefer. I enjoy their old-fashioned. Here it is about 2 or so weeks after my visit and I wanted ti make sure I left a review for the great experience I had at this bar/restaurant. The service was impeccable. I'd came in the night before for one drink and it was tasty, so the next day I decided to come back for brunch. The hostess remembered me from the night before and gave such a warm welcome along with other employees. My server was great and made me two drinks that weren't on the menu. I told her how I liked my cocktails and she surprised me with two dif drinks. Both delicious. Food was great!
