I did not expect for this town to have only 3 restaurants, 2 of which were not open yet because we were the first ship that arrived this year lol ! Considering the situation, this place was pretty decent. We walked off the beaten path in skagway and ended up at the station bar and grill. It was super busy, but within 20 minutes we got a table at lunch. Service was great! Food was served quickly and accurately. Food was also tasty. I would return next time I'm in Skagway. read more

We came here for a bite before getting back on the ship we ordered around 3:10pm and by 3:45 we still didn't get our wings and Philly cheesesteak...we asked for our check and it was $71...we asked for itemized bill and it had 18% auto gratuity even tho we never got our food to eat there and the waitress told me it's because people on the cruise lines don't ever tip!!! Our family of 4 had lunch here while visiting during our cruise. I had the halibut sandwich and chowder and both were hands down the very best I have ever had! The fish was perfectly seasoned and cooked, the tartar sauce was delicious on my sandwich and the few fries I snuck to dip. The chowder was so think and creamy, plenty of clams and flavor to die for. It wasn't full of potatoes like most. My wife and mom both had fish and chips. They could have easily shared and still have leftovers. I gave it a try and it was really good. My mother in law had the prime rib sliders which were loaded with meat and a delicious horseradish sauce that was the perfect amount of heat! Two thumbs DOWN. We went here to get halibut fish and chips. They proudly told us that they didn't have halibut fish and chips. They were the only place in town that served the (inferior) cod fish and chips. We got some and shure enough, it was inferior. When we got the bill we saw that they had added an "automatic" 18% tip. We paid cash and when we got the change we saw that they didn't bother with any coins. They just rounded it off "in their favor". This is one of two places that's open in the off-season (the other being Glacial Coffeehouse) and for that they enjoy enormous praise! This is also, functionally, the only "bar" open in the off-season. Luckily the folks that work here are really friendly. The tap selection is decent, with a local brew or two on tap. My sister & I stopped in for lunch to get away from the cruise ship crowds downtown. We got lucky & we're seated right away. The restaurant has a "dive bar" atmosphere and it was great! My sis ordered crab cakes, which were large & really good and a burger. She was pleased with her lunch. I ordered the halibut burger. Also really good! Our server was very attentive & he made sure we had everything we needed. My only word of advice...watch your check. We were in Skagway during our cruise to Alaska. We asked a local for a recommendation for a good restaurant, not one for tourists. He recommended The Station. He did not disappoint! Lucy was our server and she was phenomenal! We ordered the crab cake appetizer and then fish and chips. The crab cakes were delicious! Three good sizes patties with a yummy sauce. The fish and chips (cod) was some of the best I've ever eaten. So hot and flaky. Their tartar sauce had dill in it which was such a great complement to the fish. Alaskan King crab legs were 1. Not fresh (even though we specifically asked the waiter if they were fresh and were told "Yes! Absolutely"). 2. Freezer burned 3. Overcooked. The food was inedible. We complained to the manager and he did not care! We asked for the food to be taken off our bill since it was inedible and he refused. We paid $200 for food that we could not eat. On vacation and stopped in for something light to tide us over before getting on the White Pass train line. It was the right decision. Absolutely delicious Alaskan Clam chowder, Sidewinder fries, and fresh brewed Ice Tea. Hidden Gem. All the YouTubers talk about the Red Onion Saloon and the Brewing Company. Just keep walking because just around the corner is more of a mom & pop style restaurant/bar with friendly, fast service and delicious food. My dad & I shared Fish & Chips, Pulled Pork Sliders and an order of Onion Rings. Soooo Good! Christian was our server - Nice guy. Totally worth the 18% tip they tack onto your tab. At the end of a long day, Asked the bartender at Happy Endings for a good place to eat that was non-touristy (even though we were fresh off the cruise ship), and this was her recommendation. Score! The clam chowder was so chock full of goodies it classified as a stew instead of a soup - best I have ever had. Fish and chips were excellent. I can't say enough great things about this place! We almost didn't go as it is a few blocks beyond the main stretch but we were convinced by the reviews of the clam chowder. I am so, so, so glad we did! The BEST clam chowder I've had (super thick, big chunks of potato and clams). On the advice of our incredible waitress, Beth, we all ordered the mermaid burger. It was life changing! BIG, juicy filet of Halibut. Perfectly seasoned. My grandmother (who is 94!) said it was the beat halibut she's had in her life.I had the bleu, bacon potato salad on the side. I'm not a huge potato salad fan but it was very good. We overheard Beth telling other customers about the homemade sweet potato ice cream. Despite the four of us being completely stuffed we immediately ordered some. INCREDIBLE! Imagine a less sweet version of sweet potato pie filing complete with small pieces of sweet potato. The texture was really interesting- not smooth like traditional ice cream but thicker and, I want to say grainier, but that doesn't sound appetizing and this was truly delicious. A note about the waitress, Beth. She was really awesome. We came with my 94 year old grandmother who would not have been able to walk back to the cruise ship. When I told Beth I was concerned about the return back she immediately said not to worry and she would figure it out- even if she had to drive us herself! It didn't come to that (she called a local shuttle service) but she was so caring and thoughtful that I don't doubt she would've.
