Another important thing to note....everywhere we called had a set menu because of it being a Mother's Day weekend (really expensive). We checked out the station because it was a unique looking place built around train cars...who doesn't like trains!! It sits right next to the Amtrak station, so you get to watch them come and go. Ordered some basic original buffalo wings and they were really tasty. We were not super hungry so we only ordered the wings and some beer. The ambiance was cool as said before. This is a really cool spot! Right next to the train tracks and has a really cool and relaxed vibe to it. We came here on a Thursday night to hear some live music and grab a drink and a snack. My one minor complaint is that we did not really get any service while we were here (there was a server serving tables but she never came to help us, so I went to the bar and grabbed a drink myself). Someone in our group wanted to go the The Station after dinner since it was walking distance and sing karaoke. It had been along day for my husband and I but we went along as we didn't even know it was there. Got there and it was a cute place next to the Amtrak tracks. It was 9pm on a Thursday and the place was empty. We sat down and grabbed some drinks at the bar. My martini was excellent. We got up as a group and sang a couple of songs. Started to have some fun. Well my husband who didn't really want to come here wouldn't let go off the mic. Some others groups started to arrive and we let them have a few turns. The train went by which was very cool. Groups celebrating various occasions. Great people watching. Needless to say, we ended up having a blast. The friendly bartenders were super nice and made great cocktails. What a find. Visited this past Sunday. I was really disappointed with this experience. The restaurant ran out of forks & 3-4 drink options, which was frustrating and made the service feel disorganized from the start. Unfortunately, the drinks were poorly made, and the food was just as disappointing. On top of that, the ventilation was terrible! It was extremely hot inside and made it uncomfortable to enjoy the meal. We were also looking forward to the live band, but they started late and then ended their performance early, which was a letdown. Overall, between the poor food and drinks, uncomfortable atmosphere, and disappointing entertainment, this was not an enjoyable experience. I wouldn't recommend it based on my visit. read more

A group of us went to an event put together by Event Brite for the Luke Combs cover band. We paid extra for the table reservation. It was supposed to be from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The starting band started 1 1/2 hours late. The event ended at 6:00 PM. The food was not good. They did not have everything offered in the menu. Visited The Station for a date night. Have always been curious to dine in due to the train look. Visited on a Friday night and they had a cover charge of $20 for the band performing for the night. However watching the performance was optional, so was seated away from performance area. Which had a more private cozy feeling with window view from booth. From the hostess to the waitress received friendly service. I had my appetite set on the shepherd's pie but found out that due to new management that was no longer on the menu, so I went with one of their brisket burgers & side of coleslaw. My husband and I had a horrible experience at The Station recently. (It had nothing to do with our server, he was great and doing his best! The food was just awful.) I ordered a steak and asked for it to be medium, and it came out well done. The "house made chimichurri" on top couldn't have been more than a quarter teaspoon. I took a bite and it was flavorless and tough. The server said he would ask the kitchen to remake the steak. Half an hour later, the rest of my party was done eating and a second steak came out that looked worse than the first one. I decided not to wait for a third and left hungry. My husband ordered the salmon. The asparagus was missing from his plate entirely, and the salmon came covered in an aioli that hadn't been listed on the menu description. He hates aioli, but was too polite to send it back. I will say that the brussels spout appetizer was pretty good. But we will not be returning to The Station. read more

Alright people... this is a South County hidden gem with TONS of potential. Looks like this place is going under NEW management and heading in the right direction. This was my first time trying this place out and I enjoyed my time there. With this restaurant being in the heart of San Juan Capistrano, I'm sure this place will thrive. The restaurant it self is built around a train perfectly made for its location. The inside is beautifully designed and decorated in theme with this vintage shabby chic vibe. A place you Instagram lovers would love to take those "look at where I went" photos. There are a couple of things I would update, however at the end of my visit I ran into the new owner and he was 12 steps ahead of me and read my mind! We came in specifically for the live music which was such a surprise to hear how good they were - "Love Covers" from HB, check out their Instagram! No cause by the band, but this place was Dead. I'm not sure if it's cuz it's a Thursday, or perhaps because it as left a bad taste in the local's mouth (I read some of the reviews), or if it's just a transitional period for what it will become. So the first thing that I would make sure you're aware of is that this place goes by multiple names on different sites depending on where you're looking. "The station" "Paddy's at the station" and it also comes up, depending on where you're looking, as an Irish bar. If they are shooting for an Irish bar, I got every vibe except for that. When we walked in, we were greeted by a server and by the new owner. Very welcoming very educational, very friendly. I feel like this place took me back to a vintage lounge and definitely has the feel that they could have a speakeasy somewhere hidden in that location (which they don't, but man that would be a money maker!) some updates to the menu are coming this week, as well as to the drinks and spirits thy serve. Overall, I would definitely check this place out, regardless of what some of those locals have to say. Although I am coming from barely north Orange County (almost LA county) I feel that sometimes locals take for granted a good thing. Make your way down there. Check the spot out give this new owner a chance. I'll be going back this Friday to watch a cover band that they are promoting. I'll definitely update this review. Worst service ever! Bar is terribly understaffed, there was no host to seat people for over 15 minutes and the train car was absolutely freezing. They messed up the food order twice (I am allergic to dairy) and the server was scrambled, needed training. I asked for lavender drink without the egg white in it and she said the bar was too busy to do any special orders. The band "Teenage Noise" was amazing. We will not be back. read more

Where to begin... if an establishment is to host an event (Luke Combs cover) I would have assumed they would be ready for a crowd, but that was not the case. Half the drinks on the menu were not available, there were only 2 servers, and let us not forget they ran out of forks. As for the event I would recommend they never host another unless if it's in the middle of winter considering the place is too hot and there is no air conditioning. And due to the heat inside, the event that was scheduled from 2pm to 8pm, basically did not happen. Opener began at 330pm and the headliner performed only one or two songs and left by 630pm. Needless to say my group and I learned our lesson... never pay for a table unless we are guaranteed the event will actually happen, but most importantly we now know to never return to The Station. read more

My family and I love this place! We used to come here back when it was Paddy Station and always appreciated the fun vibe, especially the free arcade games, which my husband and son loved. Fast forward to a few weeks ago: my husband and I returned for a long-overdue date night, and we were blown away! The place has been beautifully renovated with stylish furniture, a great ambiance, and that night they had amazing DJs Bobby Mac and Malia Ward, spinning tracks that took me straight back to the good ol' days of Sunset Strip nightclubs in LA. I danced like Britney Spears in her IG videos! We loved it so much, we came back with our son a week later for dinner. The food did not disappoint, highly recommend the pretzels, wings, and truffle fries. That night, we also had the pleasure of meeting the owners: Randy, Luke, and his gorgeous wife, who was so sweet and down-to-earth. They made us feel incredibly welcome. What we love most is the vibe: during the day, it's a laid-back, family-friendly restaurant, perfect for kids and casual meals. But at night, it transforms into a lively bar and club scene with great bands and DJs,adults only! It's the best of both worlds. This place is friendly, has great food, music, and service, just bring back the old arcade games, please! That was such a fun touch. The live bands are top-tier, the service is outstanding, and our favorite waitress, Lili, always takes such great care of us. We sat in the bar since it was a childless date night for us. Our bartender/ server was absolutely amazing and personable and I wish I could remember his name but he was a taller African American man who was dressed so nicely and had beautiful longer braided hair. I was so impressed how no matter who walked in, he knew his regulars and their drink orders and remembered details about their lives. We love a personable, caring server/ bartender. With that being said, we had amazingly made drinks and well as indulged in yummy appetizers and entrees. We will be back and I highly recommend. read more

Great location, fun layout and the band ( The Brightsiders) were both great fun and seriously talented. Service was efficient and courteous. Beer and Margaritas were great . The food was the only letdown hence the two stars- but we were told the chef was new so, on the basis that everything else was great, we will try again next month to see if the food comes up to par. The Mac n cheese had no sauce - just a light sprinkling of cheese but our server took it away and comped us for that order. Chicken wings and the short rib were both too dry and the asparagus was undercooked. On the basis that the food improves I see no reason why this can't be a great (5 stars) venue and restaurant. One less star because a family member's band who was contracted to play there had a very successful night and The Station paid them via check and later that check bounced and communication has been made with The Station but with little response. So my family members band was out $450 plus a $25 bounced check fee!! The Station keeps telling them that they'll be getting back with them for payment but the band is getting the runaround. Every time l've eaten here, the staff has been so friendly and accommodating! I really enjoy chatting with the sweet, attentive servers and friendly bartenders. I love the salmon and halibut, farmers market salad, and sweet potato fries. I don't eat red meat and the kitchen is always great about adding extra veggies for me. When my daughter is visiting from college, she always gets the flat iron or Boursin chicken with garlic mash and cleans her plate! The ambiance is that perfect mix of clean, spacious and nice but not ever stuffy. Love the couches and palm trees and the patio on sunny days! It's also a fun live music venue and a great place to meet friends for a game of pool, drinks and apps. They've respected the history of the building while making it welcoming and accessible to everyone. Watching the train go by from their huge dining room windows is amazing. Paddy's is under new management, and it feels cleaner and more upscale. Our server was so nice and told us about the new owners and their plans going forward. I'm excited to see how it goes. Came for the fish and chips and boy, we were not disappointed. The place is a little hidden but the inside is so cool (an old rail car). The food was delicious and the service was great. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars? There was no changing booth in the restrooms for a baby and it was very warm in both the train car and the main dining area. Quality/Quantity: We only ordered dessert as we had dinner earlier in the evening. The only reason we ate earlier is that we came to watch a friend perform with his band. Yes, they had live music. So, on to the food. We ordered crème brûlée, chocolate brownie with ice cream, and coffee. All were good. The crème brûlée was very tasty and was served with whipped cream and fruit. The brown was huge and packed with flavor and drizzled with caramel. Both were very good. Value: I felt it was reasonable. 2 desserts and a coffee was about $30 including tip. Overall: This place is really cool. Seating literally inside of an old train, live music, good food, and most impressive is a free arcade. Our server was nice but overall, there appeared to be no manager in charge and staff didn't seem to care much, or sort of gave up given the thin crew there. It's unfortunate because the place has great opportunity/potential but is poorly run. Congratulations on your new venture! As long-time patrons, we were genuinely excited to see new owners take over and start freshening up the place. We've always loved the welcoming atmosphere and great food, and it's nice to see those traditions continue. That said, we've noticed a few changes to the Sunday event that might be worth revisiting. Since the updates, attendance seems to have dropped quite a bit--maybe around half--and we thought it might help to share a few observations from those of us who still come regularly: - Dance Space: The added tables encroach on the dance floor giving us less room to dance. - Ceiling Fans: It's been noticeably warmer since the fans were removed. The large fan in the room does not reach the tables sufficiently. Most guests bring their own handheld fans just to stay cool. - Window Treatments: We've heard new ones are on the way, which is great! In the meantime, the bare windows make it unbearable and blinding during the afternoon just before sunset. - Pool Table: I suppose it's good to have the only one in town, but in this setting it feels a little out of place and takes up space that could fit a couple of dining tables instead. From a business standpoint, that might even bring in more revenue than a few folks playing pool for an hour. - Music Volume: We love the live bands and appreciate the country-western focus, but the volume often feels a bit too high for the size of the room--my smartwatch even warns me it's dangerously loud regularly. We're really grateful that you've kept the great food, friendly vibe, and country bands we love. We're cheering you on and hope this feedback helps as you continue shaping the space.
