So, I visited this place and I think I've found my new favorite dive bar. Let me start with the bartender, Erica. She was working the entirely alone and this place was full. Her command of the bar and the ability to be friendly is an art that many bartenders have lost. My Cosmo was by far one of the best I've had. Great pool table, the balls roll clean. Selection of jute of music was vast, which is important in such a diverse area. Over all I had a fucking blast and will be back at least twice a week. Love this bar. I grew up hangin out with friends in the park down the street, getting pizza from The Pizza House across the street. This place always drew my attention. As soon as i was old enough i stopped in. And was not disapointed! Really divey. small, but nice. One pool table, jukebox and the bartenders are always super friendly! The female restroom is very nice and always clean. Best one ive seen in the area. Nice soft soap lol. Sometimes the locals get super smashed and get a lil loud but it can be amusing. Besides all bars are a lil loud. No smoking section but you can go out back in the ally. Not a bad place to chill and knock back a few beers! If you plan to drink a few beer, the pitcher is a dollar cheaper and they fill your mug and give u a full pitcher. Happy hopping :) read more

Good prices, decent selection and pretty clean. Juke box has 3 zone sound, so if you're either into or not into the tunes, you can move your locale and be happy. Very cool old-school NFL helmet collection on the wall in the pool room. TV if you wanna watch the A's. B St is always interesting too. No complaints at all. read more

Place was garbage. Barrender has huge attitude. Basically said i didnt tip him good and tried kicking me out i tiped him 20% on a 8.00 tab. He acts like his job is so hard i ordered a drink finished it pretty quick went to order another and he through a fit because he had to make another one. He said why didnt you just order two. I could go on but i wouldnt recommend this place to anyone. I dont know the bartenders name but some fat bald guy with a beard. read more

Stein lounge is the spot to be either after work during the week or late night on the weekends. The brother bartends I met are really cool people. Good conversations with them. It's a really nice bar chill and relax. Tvs are on, music is good and you don't have to worry about an angry/fight atmosphere. read more

I walked in around 11 pm last night with a few friends and we got asked for our ID's. She then looked at all of them and asked how much we all had to drink already tonight. It was our first bar of the night and none of us had anything to drink yet. We then answered and told her we haven't had a drink tonight and she then told us that our friend walked in swaying and that she wouldn't serve him, but would serve the rest of us. We decided to take our ids back and take our business elsewhere after that. The attitude we got from the bartender shocked me. I was really looking forward to trying out a new bar, but we were treated poorly and would not recommend anyone to come here. They didn't treat their customers the right way. read more

If you want to have your own true Bukowsky experience, it is likely to happen here. It can be depressing and a bit dodgy seeming if you aren't used to really dicey bars... And maybe even if you are. I have a high threshold, but even I would not hang around here late at night. You won't find cheaper, stiffer drinks, but at one point I felt as if I were in a lunatic asylum. This is a cool chill bar to go to if you're not trying to be around a rowdy crowd. They have a juke box and 1 pool table. There is so much to look at on the walls. The bathroom is fairly clean, doesn't smell bad at all. They have a wall full of old school autographed baseball players and little car collection. It's a family owned bar. There's a whole bunch of cups hanging from the ceiling that's been collected over the years. It's a chill place to go solo or with a friend. I've only been here once for a beer after a long day of work. If you want to go somewhere where the crowd is jumping, this ain't it. But they have big screen tvs visible from all places of the bar if you are looking to go down and watch a game. read more

I adore the Stein Lounge! Best Bloody Mary I've ever had, and I've had more than a few. Any review I've seen here with a slam on the patrons or bartender 99% likely means the reviewer is an a-hole, because the folks who work there and the patrons are always rock solid. House pickled eggs? Yup! killer top shelf bourbon selection? Definitely! Pool table? Of course! funky shit hanging from the ceiling? You betcha! This is and shall remain my bar of choice in Hayward, and I highly recommend getting the Bloody Mary - you will be glad you did. As for the 1-2 star reviewers, you should probably avoid their recommendations because these people clearly have no taste. The Stein is a great place to go for a drink, and hasn't been yuppified. Down to Earth, relaxed atmosphere and always a generous pour of a cocktail. I'm shocked that the area's hipsters haven't taken it over because it's that kinda joint - funky, original, old school and I pray they keep it that way forever. read more
