I'm new to the area and had been invited here by a number of tinder dates , so I had been expecting something outstanding. Though like my dates it didn't meet the hype. On my one and only visit so far, I ordered a chai latte. It tasted like nothing more than hot milk with some form instant flavored powdered added. ...honestly to put it simply, it tasted like disappointment. Sever disappointment. As for the remainder of the shoppe and my visit. The "vibe" is alright. I did not find it inspiring enough to ever come back to utilize as a mobile office. I can't help but wonder myself if the popularity is purely out of prime location and convenience rather than the menu being that good. Perhaps I'll give it a shot again in the future, but for now the weird artificial chai I had left enough of a off taste in my mouth to detour me from pardoning again right away. read more

Went here on a date, and I suggested this place as it's a local option, rather than the typical Starbucks or the like. I'm a bit disappointed. The decor as a whole is relaxed, but yet dated, and the furniture outside is rather flimsy. Inside I noticed some attempted repairs on the wall that weren't done so well. The actual service area looked a bit cramped, but not necessarily dirty. I was a bit concerned when I looked up to see Hershey's syrup bottles on a rack above. More on that later... My date and I both ordered mochas in different sizes. However, the mugs that were brought out appeared to be the same size, which was a bit surprising considered they've taken Starbucks' size naming convention (tall, grande, etc.). The mugs themselves seemed to have been worn out as the printing on them had been "smeared" off. The coffee itself was a basic drip brew with, unfortunately, a "burny" taste to it that reminds me of all the cheap Maxwell House that gets brewed in my company's office. And it was rather clear that the "mocha" really consisted of the Hershey's syrup. The next morning, I noted that my own coffee and chocolate protein shake had the same taste! All in all, I'm a bit saddened really, because I like to support local businesses anywhere, but this was just a subpar experience. Oh well, I guess, because it made for a good laugh with my date later! I'd suggest this place look at expanding the coffee options to include some artisan blends and/or single-origin coffees to promote this place as a relaxed, chill environment with great coffee without any flashy decor, maybe even keep the dated furniture to keep that sort of hipster vibe. Could become a cool place for FIT students or young professionals in the area. read more

I had to do an illustrative essay for class of a place that is relaxing for millennials, i chose the Sun shoppe... so i decided to post it on here. Imagine driving by Downtown Melbourne and seeing the perfect little cafe. One with the right number of signs and posters in the windows, and two appealing plants on each side of the entrance. An ideal area for my classmates and me to study homework, hang out and chat or drink an iced or hot coffee. The Sun Shoppe has been here all this time and, I wish I would've found it sooner. *Contently opens door* The atmosphere is very cozy with frames covering the walls. The first painting that caught my eye and loved was an abstract Statue of Liberty. More importantly, there is a section where local artists can display and try to sell their artwork. Four comfortable chairs with blue cushions surround many circular wooden tables. In the middle, there are smaller tables and chairs for what appears to be for coffee dates. It is to our advantage that the bigger tables have enough space for my classmates and I to place our backpacks and binders on the surface to study. No procrastination. Even better this joint has wall outlets in convenient places for our laptops and phones. At a distance, there are two couches and lamps; a long thin glass table stays in between them. As I take a seat around the corner, I could almost visualize my friends and me staying here for hours and hours. I would love for this place to be our spot every Friday or so. Make it a tradition -- a place to hang out and socialize. Best of all, I'm lucky the Sun Shoppe has board games like Scrabble and Chess, and I'm even more fortunate that my friends know how to play. Coming here by yourself is acceptable too, but I prefer the company. More to the point, I would admire gathering all my old friends and coworkers to try and catch up. Surrounding myself with the right people makes me genuinely blessed. Did I mention they have outside seating? How amazing do you think the weather in Florida would be like in the evening? My best friend and I drink coffee religiously. A lifesaver that the Sun Shoppe closes a bit late for us to have each other's company. Over to the left side of the structure, the staff is waiting for you to order. And after carefully reviewing the menu, I try something new. As the barista gives me my iced cold brew with almond milk, I gladly walk back to my table. Next to the creamer and sugar table, there are countless cards for businesses and fliers for local events. The Sun Shoppe is not loud or crowded and, the staff is short but works quickly and efficiently. To illustrate, no long lines and you'll get your coffee or small pastry swiftly and the tables are neat and clean. So, in the future, as you're in the Sun Shoppe parking lot, be prepared to experience a homey feeling. There is also a small bell at the top of the main doors so, it's a nice feeling when you enter. Mellow music is playing every hour and it's not loud at all. Artists like, Coldplay and Nick Drake enclose this scene. It's a beautiful setting to get homework done, meet up with friends and obtain caffeine. Take some pictures and, don't forget to tip. I would recommend telling your closest friends about this cute cafe. Stopped by here the other night for a casual meeting. This place is full of hipster types young and old. They have some food and snack offerings here if you are hungry. What a great breakfast place. Just toolin' up the coast to JAX and stopped here for breakfast. My dirty chai with soy was excellent. The veggie wrap was delicious, the wrap & hummus were tasty and fresh and all the veggies inside were fresh and crisp too. My wife said her coffee was delicious (and the sign on the register said they serve fair trade). She said the hummus, tabouli, & pita were great. She said the stuffed grape leaves weren't as good as she was hoping. Over all, everything was excellent, the staff were friendly and polite, and our food was delicious and served promptly. I'll definitely try to make it in again (if I make another trip to Melbourne). Okay, I did end up back in Melbourne two weeks later on business. I ordered the same items- dirty chai & a veggie wrap but, this time I also got a side of Tabouleh salad. The Tabouleh salad was a bit too tangy for my taste. Also, the staff was not as friendly this time. Still, I would recommend this place, but I'm lowering my rating to 4 stars- service with a smile means a lot. read more

Nice selection of salads, sandwiches and drinks (non-alcoholic variety). They also serve breakfast all day long if that's your thing. Great location on the west end of downtown Melbourne. We went there for lunch and it was packed. But we ordered and sat down & our food was brought out to us within a few minutes. I am a usual here and have been for a while now! I've tried a lot of food and drinks here and I'd have to say that if you are looking for food, the California wrap is where it's at! If your thinking a smoothie or ice blended drink, my favorite is the Kim's delicious packed with a coffee, peanut butter taste. My usual drink of choice though would have to be the heroine or the dirty (double shot) hot chai! Sun Shoppe has a nice and relaxed vibe here and while going to FIT, the bar area was my place of study and getting my work done preferred over the library while enjoying your smoothie, coffee or tea. For Melbourne (and in particular the downtown) it is the only place I would go to and hang out. Their coffee is not very good....a commercial brand as I recall the last time I was there in Oct '08....their food prices are too high but I do like salads there...big bowl w/ yummy dressing. I wish they would sell more locally produced beverages and homemade foods (stop selling COKE products and premade side items like potato and macaroni salads). This place is near and dear to my heart. I have been here a few times in the past, but I frequented it the most when I worked at the Henegar Center just down the street in the summer-December of 2018. I would go there a lot before or after working for a coffee or wrap. The people at the counter were always so friendly and we had great conversations about upcoming shows at the Henegar and things going on in the area. Last year, one of my friends had her birthday lunch there and it was so much fun! We got our favorite table by the big windows facing the old house across the street. Downtown is also fairly close to my high school so after a photography club meeting or a Friday after school me and a few friends went to the Sun Shoppe for coffee and just to talk. They have card games and other game stuff you are free to use. I've also come here after school to do homework. I have so many wonderful memories here and will for sure miss it when I move away to college. This is a perfect study spot !! Make this your to go for great service, cozy and small town feel, and great food! I would highly recommend their wraps and Black and white latte. Unlike the other reviewer, I disagree that the prices are expensive. They are fully inline with what you would expect for a cafe of this style. In fact, some of the food is very reasonable. This is a cute addition to Melbourne. I love the interior and the atmosphere is genuine. However, when I went with a friend to have a cup of coffee, we waited over 20 minutes for someone just to get back behind the counter to take my order. Granted, it was kind of packed but didn't enjoy the wait. Maybe if they considered investing in televisions or some music, I wouldn't have minded the wait as much. I used to be a fan of the sun shoppe. It has been around for a few years and the food is decent, with generally better drinks. The decor is outdated and needs to be updated but it is not unbearable. The staff at the counter are usually nice and helpful. So why would I give it two stars? Well for starters, I have noticed that the greens are no longer as fresh as they used to be, the cold coffee tastes watered down and the pastries have always been stale so I would never recommend them. On top of this, one of the owners is very rude. I am writing this review at the shop right after she came over and insisted my family and I purchase food. We had just sat down and were deciding what to order when she came over. We explained we would order and knew the process but she stood there staring at us and then told us we need to order to help with her bills. I have been coming here, mostly for take out, for 8 years and have never had this experience but I have never dealt with this lady either. She then refused to let us join the tables and said she preferred I sit separate from my family if I need the space, even though I have seen people join tables before. She was rude and chose the only black people in the shop at the time to bother. All in all, I love the spicy tuna melt here but its not worth it to me to return. Thank god for The Sun Shoppe & Cafe! You'd think on the "Space Coast" of Florida that there would be dozens of cafe's offering free wifi access, but this is one of only a few that do, and it's hands down the best! Drip coffee is $1.25 and refills are a Quarter! And it's GREAT coffee! The sandwiches range between $6 and $7 and the salads are $7. They put plenty of food on the plate and are very conscious of the appearance of your food/plate and every dish looks good. I've been here almost everyday for 3 weeks on this most recent and my last visit to FL., so I've eaten just about everything on the menu, and it's all good. A nice diverse crowd hangs out here and everyone has been extremely friendly. read more
