I gave them 4 instead of 5 stars only because my otherwise wonderful breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel came slightly over crispy & with American instead of the requested Swiss cheese. the following are excerpts from an email complaint i recently sent via the Sun Shoppe website: "i just received a rather unpleasant phone call from one of the Sun Shoppe owners. she was upset that i borrowed a pillow from one couch to use on the other as a platform for my laptop. she also maintains that i don't purchase enough food/beverages on a regular basis to justify sitting in your cafe for longer than one hour at a time. finally, her insinuation that i waste the employees' time is completely unrealistic. i simply greet people & engage in polite conversation while there." i'm not making anything up - while i was there, she actually called to chastise me on all the above topics for about five straight minutes. clearly this woman has too much free time & spends it targeting innocent customers at her family business with vindictive zeal. for context, they have a webcam mounted behind the service counter which is evidently monitored by her all the time. at the risk of sounding obvious, that sure isn't the way to endear yourself to (formerly) loyal patrons. she should probably consider attending charm school, taking heavy medication or maybe both. i also feel sorry for her employees - they're obviously psychological prisoners to this coffee version of the Soup Nazi. enter the Sun Shoppe at your own risk. read more

Wow! The Sun Shoppe and Cafe has been an establishment catering to artist, poets, college kids and intellectuals, high school seniors learn to enjoy coffee there, and my kids leaned to control themselves in a restaurant at the Sun Shoppe. When I first started going to the Sun Shoppe there were local bands playing there 2 days a week on a mini stage, and there were some fantastic artwork for sale by starving artists on the walls. At one time I would have given this place 5 stars, but I think that over the years, with the several changes in ownership, something has been lost. It could be me not wanting things to change, but yes some things did need improving, such as the roof/ceiling, the place is much cleaner now, and the food is a little different. The tea they use is the same as I purchase for my home, the Republic of Tea, and they carry a large selection. Bagels are really good, and my favorite item there is the tuna fish in a pita. The Tuna is white solid albacore with jalepenios, and to this day, I can't eat Tuna fish without adding jalepenios. There is a good variety of healthy choices of food to eat as well as coffee and deserts. Music all depends on the staff that's working, usually it's something weird, but not overbearing it's a nice place to have a discussion, meet with friends, play a quick board game, discover the meaning of life, solve the worlds problems. Most people I meet there are quite progressive, but the conservatives they get are peaceful. Parking is tight, like most places downtown, but at least there are spots in the back where you can park. There is a pottery place next door, and a music shop close by. There are still artwork on the walls you can buy, but not as wild as the the older stuff. Love coming here, as a local it's nice to have a place other than chain coffee stores to go to. The atmosphere is cozy and warm. They have a variety of food and salads as well as coffee and smoothies. The also offer dessert options and some pastry items. It is a nice place to bring a book and relax. Everyone who works there is very nice and always has great recommendations if you don't know what to get. It's in a great location to grab something and just walk around the downtown Melbourne area. read more

Made excuses until I asked for a refund. Stalled me until they had it done then handed me a warmed lunch able. I threw both dishes away and I hate wasting money. Don't waste your time. read more

Went there one night with my friend after arriving into town to visit her. Was craving coffee but didn't want to go to a Starbucks or Dunkins. Grabbed a soy cappuccino and an iced chi tea. Both were great and had no complaints. The barista drew a flower on my cappuccino with soy milk which I loved because not a lot of places do that. I like this place. Always have, but with the turn over in owners every few years it kind of throws you off. I miss the original owner but that was nearly 15yrs ago. Could use an upgrade in the painting and the bathrooms need to be upgraded. The new owner makes a great chicken salad sandwich on a croissant (untoasted) with alfalfa sprouts. Yum Yum!! The most interesting and relaxing spot Melbourne, the best of Brevard. If your looking for a great place to people watch, or a nice place to sit and relax with a cup of coffee or a sandwich (Personally I don't drink coffee, but if I happen to be in the Sun Shoppe on a chilly day there is no resisting a cup of heroin). The staff and the customers are very friendly, also, this is defiantly a locals spot and on the east coast of Florida (tourist capital of the world) it is a very nice place to escape to. People from all walks of life come here so everyone feels welcome. The only time you may want to avoid the shoppe is during Friday Fest, a monthly street party in downtown Melbourne, there are swarms of high school students that flood the shoppe, but if you don't mind the crowds there is usually a local band playing a show. read more

Very casual and relaxed atmosphere. Good coffee, many different things to snack on. Its not a 4-star steak house, its a coffee shop. Don't expect a waiter with a french accent to serve your coffee. I ordered a tuna melt yesterday to go. When I got home, it was ice cold as if it had been sitting in their fridge, and the cheese had never been melted. I called right away and spoke to the owner and she would not make me a replacement. I'll never go back. I'm in the restaurant biz (management) and I would never lose a customer over a tuna melt, especially since they didn't give me a tuna melt!! read more

This is a friendly, local café with a relaxed feel to it and outdoor seating -- a nice break from the burnt coffee chain. Espresso is good, properly brewed, but not great. I like the veggie type sandwiches they have like the avocado and cucumber, a healthy alternative. The Cuban sandwich I had tasted good, but a bit sparse on the meat I thought. I like their big bagels, specifically the pumpernickel. When I used their WiFi, it was free and fast. I like the people that serve here, they're always pleasant. Overall -a very nice café. read more
