Our group of six stopped by The Sunken Well Tavern around 10:30 on a Saturday for brunch while in town for a wedding. We were seated right away on their patio, which was very cozy with heaters and fire pits. The menu sounded great and they had a lot of featured brunch items that were a little fancier. I went with the sausage, egg, and cheese on English muffin with a side of cheesy grits. Our food came out pretty quickly, but one of the sandwiches was wrong, which they fixed right away. The sandwich was basic but tasty, and adding hot sauce made it even better. I loved the cheesy grits - they were more coarse than other grits I've had but I still really liked them. I had a few bites of Nate's sandwich, the New Jersey sunrise (Taylor ham, home fries, two fried eggs and American cheese), which was very hearty and tasty. Service was decent, they were pretty busy so we did have to ask for a few things, but we had a nice time. I'm putting this spot on my list of places to revisit when we're back in the area.

We found some street parking and were sat pretty quickly for our party of 4. Friendly service, and already somewhat busy on a Sunday morning around 10. There is a friendly stray cat that comes around and it's pet friendly outside. It was nice and quiet and a nice day to sit outside. I ordered a cup of coffee and the tater tot bowl. The tater tot bowl was good and had chunks of sliced Chorizo. I did wish it had more Chorizo and I think the ground Chorizo might be better with the dish but overall good. My friends enjoyed their meal as well and they do also have cocktails.

Amazing experience every time! It's usually busy on the weekends, but totally worth the wait. We're always greeted warmly and made to feel welcome. The atmosphere is cozy, with beautiful paintings on the walls -- and they're even for sale! This place has the best crawfish étouffée I've ever had. If you've never tried it, give it a shot -- you won't regret it. Steve, the owner, is awesome. When he's not back in the kitchen cooking, he comes out to greet us, which really adds a personal touch. Overall, just an amazing experience. I always recommend this place to friends and family!

Everyone enjoyed their dishes, which is rare when I have BOTH of my parents with me! Service was good. It wasn't crowded the mid-week evening we went. Food came relatively quickly. It's a small space with interesting artwork- some for sale, I believe.

My buddy and I stopped in for a quick bite while passing through. The place has that rustic and historic vibe with art work from local artists adorning the walls. Josh was the server who helped us and he was very attentive and helpful. A pretty cool dude in fact. I had the classic burger, but found it to be mediocre. The patty itself didn't really fit the bun and the flavor was average. My buddy had the roast beef with horseradish and the onion rings. The roast beef was balled up like the burger and there was little to no horseradish. The onion rings were good, but not excellent. Flavor was average as well for both. For drinks, atmosphere, and maybe a quick bite, it may be worth a try for those who are curious, or passing through.

Fence background- great outdoor seating with umbrellas!

Met my daughter for dinner. While she was hung up in traffic the waitress was so friendly, and helpful in recommending & letting me try a couple of their specials on tap. We had a great selection of apps & sandwiches were great!!

Sunken Well knows how to do a good hangover brunch complete with hearty biscuits and gravy and the cheesiest potatoes. They have a nice patio to enjoy some sunshine which usually includes a visit from Archie the neighborhood cat (who loves a good snack if you're willing to share just one bite). There can be longer wait times on the weekends which means orders can take a bit long but the food is always worth it. Three words: Get. The. Pancake. Your belly will thank you for it!

We've been to the sunken well tavern for dinner service but wanted to try their brunch today. Of course it's a Sunday in downtown so they were busy! We were seated right away at the bar area and promptly greeted with menus. I was really excited when I received the brunch specials for the day. They had so many yummy options! Pictured: Country Fried Steak Western Omelette Both were very tasty and served with large portions. The country fried steak had an amazing flavor, the cheesy potatoes were delicious, and my eggs were cooked to perfection. Next time we go I want to try the stuffed poblano. I witnessed many come out of the kitchen and it looked like a masterpiece.

The Sunken Well Tavern is my favorite brunch restaurant in Fredericksburg! I reserved tables for a birthday party and it was the easiest process. Other local restaurants over complicated the process but not "my spot" LOL. We had adults and several children in our party. I couldn't have asked for a better experience!

We saw this place on a tour & decided to check it out. We were not disappointed. Made it there for brunch, which my hubby was thrilled about. He ended up with the shrimp & grits. (It's a favorite of his & he rates restaurants this way) and I just went for a burger. Burger was great & was cooked exactly like I wanted. The fries were almost sliced to be thin but were very nice. Almost a fry/chip consistency. Hubby loved the shrimp & grits. He got 7 shrimp (most places give 6 or less) and said he felt like the sausage must have been locally sourced. Course grits & nice sauce made it for him. Only issue was it's very small & seems to be a local favorite. Go in off hours for the best experience

Charming bar with seasonal offerings. Service was a bit slow as the place was packed, but the service performed efficiently and did their best to ensure everyone was seated and taken care of. Special drink of the day included the prickly pear margaritas which was refreshing and tasty. The peach and blackberry crepes were a special treat with strawberries and whipped cream!

Staff were all perfect. Oysters, wedge salad, (2) filet with 2 sides, and 3 drinks, and peanut butter pie dessert. $200 + $40 tip. Upon entering, I informed the hostess that I had a reservation, and I was then escorted to my table. Shortly thereafter, Trevor came over to introduce himself. I advised him that Merlot is my preferred wine, and he graciously showed me the available Merlot selections. I chose a half-bottle of Duckhorn. For my meal, Trevor recommended the steak and the soup. Both were delicious. The soup was excellent, and the mashed potatoes were clearly homemade, which was a nice touch. My only disappointment was that the steak was heavily charred--almost blackened. I was also surprised that the entrée was not accompanied by a vegetable. Despite those minor shortcomings, the meal was delicious, and Trevor provided excellent service throughout the evening. In fact, I suspect that because of the overly charred steak, the restaurant generously comped my coffee, which was a very thoughtful gesture. Overall, this was a very enjoyable dining experience. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and Trevor's knowledge and attentiveness contributed significantly to my positive experience.

Service: The first impression was a little mixed. The hostess wasn't very welcoming when we asked about a booth for our family of five (two adults and three younger kids) and didn't seem open to exploring the option. Thankfully, our server, DeQuandre (Deq?), completely turned that around. He was friendly, attentive, and offered great recommendations. We appreciated his visits as he was energetic and very hospitable, highly recommend asking for him when you visit. Food: We started with the buffalo dip. It comes with chips, but Deq was awesome and add some pita, which was a great call. The pita was slightly crisped (almost lightly fried) but still soft inside and paired perfectly with the dip, which had great flavor and good chunks of chicken. For burgers, we ordered the Spicy Wrangler (March 2026 Burger of the Month) and the Whiskey Burger. The Wrangler had a lot going on but the flavors worked well together. The Whiskey Burger was delicious, the sauce was a bit sweeter than I usually prefer, but the bacon was excellent. Only critique would be the burgers were slightly underdone even for medium, but still enjoyable. The onion rings were a standout, though the breading-to-onion ratio leaned a little heavy. The fries were decent but nothing particularly great about them. Atmosphere: Casual and open, but fairly loud. Even though it wasn't very busy for a Sunday lunch, the music and bar noise made it a little difficult at times to hear others at our table. I wouldn't consider this a date night type atmosphere, more casual open dining. Drinks: Solid beer selection with enough variety for most tastes, plus a small cocktail menu and a selection of wines. Overall: Harry's Downtown is a solid spot for a casual lunch or dinner. If you're in the mood for a good burger, or consider yourself a bit of a burger enthusiast, it's definitely worth checking out. This visit was positive enough to plan another visit to explore other delicious sounding menu items. We'll definitely be requesting Deq when we return! Thank you!

For dinner on our first night, we opted to give Brocks Riverside Grill a try and we were not disappointed. Our waitress, Mckewen, was super friendly and helpful with both ordering selections when both of us have Shellfish allergies and later pairing our entrees with wines. For starters, we ordered drinks. My wife ordered a glass of Chardonnay and I ordered a Spicy Margarita. We shared an appetizer of Crispy Brussel Sprouts and bread rolls that came with a delicious oil and garlic dipping sauce. The main dining area was sparsely attended by other dinner patrons, with large windows to one side overlooking the river. For entrees, my wife selected the Roasted Beet Poke Bowl which she described as "light and refreshing" and I ordered the 16-oz Marinated Ribeye, cooked to Medium along with sides of mixed Seasonal Vegetables (sliced Zucchini & Squash) and Redskins Mashed potatoes with an order of mushrooms to go on top of the steak. I also ordered a nice glass of Merlot wine to go with it. The portions were generous, and the entrees perfectly prepared, and very tasty. If there was any fault at all, it was that the ribeye was a little too laden with a ring of fat rather than simply marbled, but otherwise no complaints. For dessert, I ordered a slice of Key Lime Pie and my wife ordered Crème Brûlée. Both were appealing to the eye and each bite beckoned us to take another bite. It is certainly someplace we would go to again.
