    The Fresh Prince
    Leon L.

I was craving sushi as of recently and I crossed paths with the sushi stand. The name of the rolls and the originality of them really attracted me so I naturally ordered. They were BOMB ! I got myself the Fresh Prince and I highly recommend. Freshness and quality products! My partner got the Surfin USA' and he mentioned the tempura being very crispy! Will deffo come back and try their other items.

Staff members were friendly and helpful at the San Juan Capistrano Sushi Stand and the wait was not long. I especially enjoyed the presentation of the sushi rolls (see picture). The food was good: average/acceptable for sushi., though a little pricy. I give it 4 stars: Good.

This place was great! Karen made a wonderful suggestion since this was my first time here. What she suggested was great! Would come again!

The presentation for their rolls was really cute, I loved how everything you needed was in the box for an easy set up. They have several different options on the menu and I tried the fresh prince roll because they said it was very popular. It was okay, not bad at all but definitely not the best sushi I've tried and I love sushi. May come back to try something else in the future.

My husband and I are HUGE sushi people and we wanted a quick roll that is still delicious and fresh. This did not disappoint. Very good sushi for price and you get a lot of it.

Sushi stand kids poke bowl! Delicious

A bit pricey but for the ambiance it's definitely worth it, fresh food, good portion too. Friendly staff.

We love The Sushi Stand. We try to come here for an indulgent treat twice a month. It's a hidden treasure! Best sushi in town! They have flavors you've never tasted before!

    California Sushi Roll

Told me it would be 10 minutes for my order to be out turned out being around 25 minutes so not good if you're in a rush. California roll was pretty good though.

Realistically it's a 4.8 for me which is saying a lot. Let's begin with the service; the service is great, no complaints. The ambience is nice, the World Cup was playing so win win. Food: Edamame: warm and seasoned well California roll: made to perfection Spicy tuna crispy rice: WOW the cilantro and raw jalapenos is chefs kiss- this is a must Yellowtail roll: elite, every bite felt like a breath of fresh air, I was genuinely impressed Soy paper salmon: a unique roll that taste like a proper Oceanside appetizer I am genuinely impressed. I ordered a spicy seafood udon, but it only contained two pieces of mussel, a few tough, dried calamari rings Finger size), a couple of tiny scallops about the size of baby fingernails, and three pieces of baby shrimp. The soup lacked any seafood flavor and had an overly salty, unappealing red color. The price seemed unreasonable compared to the quality of the food. It's no surprise that they only had two tables occupied on a Saturday afternoon at 1:30 PM. I recommend they consider changing the restaurant's name from "Sushi Kara" to "Kara Sushi." If they are truly Japanese, they would understand the significance of this.

Stop by next door to get my nails done for a wedding and decided I had some time to kill before my next meeting so I stop by. Keep in mind this was after the lunch rush so plenty of seating and no wait time i got in around 2;53pm and was pretty happy to be seated right away. I was hungry and I missed eating here, prices were still affordable and delicious. My meal came out to be less than $25 and yes, that is with tip. I ordered an appetizer of Shrimp and Vegetable tempura, coke and a shrimp & veggies tempura udon. Perfect combo on a gloomy day, and honestly, I need to head here more often. I did past by the other day right before 6pm and there were people waiting outside for a table so it's a great spot. I'm telling you guys, its the go to place in SC. Their sushi is pretty darn fresh too, if you don't want to drive all the way to Irvine or L.A.

It does feel a little cramped inside but they do their best to accommodate as many diners as they can. The two servers were running around and being efficient and attentive as possible which I recognized and appreciated. Looking at the menu, they have a variety of sushi rolls and other non-fish options such as udon and teriyaki plates. Also, I felt like I was transported to pre-2010 days with the prices. Never seen a menu with prices under $15 for everything and $3.50 for a handroll? It's no wonder why this place is poppin. To be honest, while the fish quality is not stellar, it still tastes good and flavors are satisfying. Plus considering the price, you can't expect to have 5 star cuts. I would recommend the tataki special roll (spicy tuna with seared cajun tuna on top) and the baked salmon roll (CA roll with baked salmon eel sauce on top), these two were my favs. I would recommend!

I ended up here in the middle of the day while working in the area. Never been before. I try to avoid chains when I can and pick something new each time. This place caught my eye, and I'm glad I walked in. It's a small, family-run vibe -- and I mean literally. Looked like a husband and wife running everything themselves. They were both super polite, calm, and you can tell they really care about the food and about every guest who walks in. No rush, no attitude, just warm hospitality. I went with something safe for me -- ramen and salmon sushi. And both were just... really solid. Not overcomplicated, not trying to be something fancy. Just good food made right. The broth had depth, noodles cooked right, and the sushi was fresh with balanced flavor. No complaints there at all. The place itself is small. Not a big dining room. A few tables inside, clean but definitely more of a takeout-focused spot. They don't have a restroom available inside, which kind of confirms that they expect people to grab food and go. And honestly -- I would. Not because it's bad to sit there -- it's fine. But this is the kind of meal that hits even better sitting somewhere by the ocean with the breeze. I'd definitely order takeout from here and eat outside by the water next time. I paid around $30, which is very fair for the quality, especially in California. They do ask about tip at checkout before you get your food -- that part always feels a bit weird to me, but I get it. Overall -- 5 stars for the food and the heart behind the place. I'll remember it. And I'll be back -- probably to pick up a to-go order and take it straight to the beach.

Plenty of parking and jsyk there is no public restroom. As for the food, everything tastes great! You get a great amount of fresh fish for the most affordable prices in the area. The sushi rice tastes good and I appreciate how the rolls aren't stuffed w/ rice to make up for the lack of fish. I especially like the Aloha roll, Lollipop roll, Crunch (shrimp tempura) hand roll, and the sashimi & carpaccios are all fresh. Love how you can get pickled wasabi (real wasabi) for a reasonable up-charge. All of their salad dressings are made in-house too! Great place for a quick & casual bite to eat. They got treats for dogs and lots of friendly vibes to share. Super accommodating to all, and can confidently say that they treat their regulars so well. Always happy to support a local, family-owned business! Thank you :)

There is very limited parking and even though it is not always busy you may want to make a reservation because of how limited the seating is. Food quality is good. We had a Baja Crudo, we had bluefin Nigiri, shotgun roll, house, salad, edamame, a side of rice. The rolls could have been wrapped a little tighter, in our role, we did have a little bit of the fish that couldn't be eaten due to it being not as well cleaned and chopped as the rest, and the edamame serving was a bit small. Service is very friendly. Expect a slower pace as the restaurant is very calm and casual. It is in an older building and the ambience is amazing during the day when you can see the ocean but very rootsy, and a little rundown at night. Overall, we had a nice dinner at a very reasonable price and will probably try it out again.

Sushi Speakeasy Bliss…read more Behind a locked door, we found a sushi speakeasy that felt like a dream. Just us, the chef, and the hostess--both sake sommeliers--delivering an unforgettable omakase and sake pairing experience. It started with a crisp cucumber salad and house-made dressings, followed by fresh wasabi so generous it deserved applause. The sake pairings elevated every bite, each one more perfect than the last. Then came the showstoppers: soft-shell crab with the best ponzu sauce I've ever tasted and five different fishes prepared as both sushi and sashimi, so you can experiment and compare. Amberjack shined until salmon--yes, the common salmon--stole the night, proving it could be extraordinary. The finale? Elevated takoyaki perfection. I'm scared to check the bill, but I'll be back for a celebration. Hidden gems like this don't stay secret for long. Reservations only and the hostess said they would open for lunch just for you.

I'm almost home and now I gotta cook dinner for one? Lame. I decided to get off at the San Juan Capistrino exit and find a place to eat. Turning to my trusty Yelp App I ran a search for restaurants. I get repeated "cannot log onto server" and realized that my Blackberry is being a total tool again. I pulled over to a random shopping center and stumbled on Sushi Tai. Now, I don't want to come off as a super flamer, but to be honest the thing that attracted me to this place were the two handsome sushi chefs. They looked mad cool. Real cultured fellows, like a couple of ex-Yazukas. I walked in and was seated immediately by one of the servers. I looked over the trendy menu and had a WTF moment. Bulgogi... Soju... Haemul pajeon... the menu has more Korean dishes than Japanese! I totally felt like I got tricked. Just then my Blackberry started working again. I Yelped the place to see what I was getting myself into and found out this place has '$$$$'. Damn you Blackberry. Had I known, my cheap ass wouldn't have walked in and sat down. I started to sweat bullets and the '$' lights from Bravo Burger seemed to taunt and snicker at me. As I was about to get up and make a run for it, a gorgeous blonde chick startled me and dropped off some water. "Damn it", I thought, "I don't want to look like a cheap-o, in front of this server. No turning back now." I looked through the menu and ended up going with the sashimi special + miso soup. The soup was a bit watered down and it wasn't anything special. When the server brought me the sashimi special, I realized I'm gonna need more food. The sashimi special was well presented and had 10 very thin slices of Salmon, Tuna, Albacore, Yellowtail, and Halibut. Typical Fishes. For 25 bucks, I was hoping I'd get to try a baby sea lion or Shamu. The thing that really stood out with my meal was the homemade wasabi. It hand a hand-ground texture and it didn't have a kick like most commercially made wasabi. It was a really pleasant balance. The sashimi was pretty amazing. The tuna melted in my mouth, as did the other fishes. All the fishes were very fresh and well cut. By the end of the meal, I realized that I was stuffed. I was thoroughly impressed. Overall I was happy with the service, cleanliness of the restaurant, and the taste of the food. My bill came out to be 35 bucks with tax + tip, which is on the pricier side. I typically wouldn't spend that much on a meal with just me and rather save this kind of money for a nice meal with friends or fiancé. But needless to say, I found a really good "Japanese" restaurant. As I walked out, I decided to swing by Bravo Burger anyways, just because I've never had it before and I was worried about getting hungry on the drive home. See Part II of my dinner tonight at Bravo Burger! A little about my credentials: I first got into cooking & food when I was in college. After being rejected by numerous girls and getting zero action, I decided it was time for a change. I needed a new makeover to boost my geeky, engineering image. I applied for a cooking position at a Mediterranean-Italian Restaurant near my home and learned to cook all sorts of pastas and dishes. I never became a professional chef, but I continue to enjoy & love food. 9 years later and 55 lbs heavier, I am now an engineer that travels all over the world trying new foods and learning about different cultures.
