Beautiful fanciful cakes and they taste soooo good! We had the Carrot Cake inside a mermaid tail and it was one of the moistest carrot cakes ever. So worth it. Thanks!

We were referred to The Sweet Side by our wedding planners. We spent $996 (including a $125 refundable deposit) on dessert for a small wedding with 30 guests. Leading up to the wedding Mindy was very difficult to communicate with and she repeatedly sent us emails asking for information that had been provided previously (e.g., day of contact, vendor access to venue, etc.). There was also a miscommunication a month before our wedding that resulted in a surprise $110 delivery charge, $55 rental fee, and $125 refundable deposit requirement. If you asked The Sweet Side team, they would say that our planners did not tell them that they needed delivery or rentals in advance of our initial invoice. If you asked our wedding planners, they would say that conversations were had months prior with The Sweet Side team and that delivery and rentals were supposed to be complimentary. For what it's worth, delivery and rentals were included in the initial invoice with a $0 line item. When we asked The Sweet Side to honor their initial invoice and waive the delivery/rental fees, they refused. Since I was not involved in those conversations I can't say whose version of the miscommunication is more correct, but after experiencing firsthand how difficult Mindy is to communicate with I tend to believe our wedding planners. Since it was only a month before our wedding we opted to pay the extra fees rather than try to find a new dessert vendor. Fortunately, the desserts the day of were a much better experience. The desserts were delivered on time and were a big hit. We ordered the predesigned magnolia cake, 8" round, with carrot cake and cream cheese on the inside and buttercream frosting on the outside ($181). It was DELICIOUS and just the right size for our small wedding. We also ordered the "sweet bites bar package" ($525) with French macarons, brownies, and cheesecake shooters. The package is advertised as intended for 50 guests but it was just the right size for our 30 guests. The macarons were especially delicious and several guests commented that they were the best macarons they had ever eaten.

You want beautiful and delicious cakes? - say no more and check out The SweetSide bakery (www.thesweetsideseattle.com). A wonderful, local, small business TL;DR - I was super happy with my custom cake. Highly recommended for delicious, beautiful, and reasonably priced custom cakes. I haven't tried their other sweets, but based on the cake I'd bet you a box of macarons its all delicious. --- This review is for a custom cake I ordered for my wife. She's a major sushi lover and thought it would be great to surprise her with a custom sushi cake (a cake that looks like sushi, not made of sushi)! PROCESS: After looking at several greater Seattle area bakeries, I found the SweetSide to be one of the more reasonably priced options for a custom cake and decided to inquire further. The team was SUPER nice and responsive. They worked with me on what look, feel, style I wanted for the cake. They offered different pricing points and examples of what they could do. They then offered a bunch of choices of flavors for cake and filling. I was able to make my payment online and just like that I was done. I only had to wait for the pick-up date. CAKE APPEARANCE: I'll be posting pictures to this review, and they should speak for themselves. It was absolutely amazing! Matched my expectations exactly as we had communicated about. It was almost too good to eat! CAKE TASTE: I might be typing delicious about 24 times this review... it was delicious! I chose chocolate cake with nutella buttercream filling. It was SO good! The cake had great texture, the filling was not too sweet, and if you wanted that extra bit of sugary bite, the fondant actually tasted good! It was really sweet, but would balance well when eaten with the cake and filling. I repeat, the fondant was actually good! PRO TIP: as the team suggested to me, let the cake get to room temp before eating... its worth the wait. Extra notes: -my process was done all online (email/website) but they have a cute storefront, as well as a phone number to call. -the team seems very skillful and creative. If you have a vague idea for a custom cake, just talk to them, and you might be surprised with what you come up with together. -for any custom cake at any bakery, make sure you inquire well before you need to the cake. (a couple weeks prior at least to make sure they can accommodate) -the team seemed genuinely excited to work on the cake, and see my wife and my reaction when picking up the cake

We had a fantastic experience getting a small, custom wedding cake from The Sweet Side! We knew we just wanted a cutting cake and we wanted it to be Seattle Kraken themed. I worked with the team via email to design one that was in our budget. They came up with 4 designs for us to pick from! The flavor was rich and incredible and we enjoyed it for many days after. For our tasting, it was during Covid so we got a little to go box with tons of small bite-size pieces of cakes and various frostings to mix and match. That was such a fun date night experimenting with flavors at home! Cannot recommend The Sweet Side enough :)

Clearly a response created by her. Mom shaming me? Wow.

It pains me to write this, but please read this to understand. The 1 star is not about their cakes (their cakes are GREAT and delicious!) But in particular ONE PERSON who has made a big enough service impact for me to NEVER RETURN (I didn't get her name, but she answered the phone and is the girl that came out to give me the cake - so in this review her name will be RUDE CHICK) Background: I had my baby shower cake designed by the amazing Tamela that I came to return for a second cake. Tamela was great and designed another beautiful custom cake for me. I prepaid for the cake and called in advance to ask if someone would be willing to step outside of the store to handoff the cake since I was on my own and would have my baby in the car and didn't want to leave her. Tamela was leaving for the day but said it was fine and that someone from the store could help. I called 20 minutes before I was going to arrive to let them know in advance I would be there. RUDE CHICK picked up and I asked if I could give her cash for extra candles since I couldn't come in to make an additional payment to the cake. As soon as I parked RIGHT OUTSIDE the store (with baby in the car) I called back to let them know that I was right outside. The RUDE CHICK explained "We can't take your cash you have to come in for the candles". I explained that I am with baby otherwise I would - so no need for the candles, I'll just pick up my prepaid cake. RUDE CHICK doesn't say anything but "Hold on" - and I'm left waiting for a few minutes while I'm just right outside sitting with baby. RUDE CHICK returns and says "I'm not Tamela, and we don't come out and do this. We are really busy and have a lot of orders to take care of." Unbelievable. I explained that I was already outside, that I called in advance and that I'm not going to leave my baby inside the car to get the cake. RUDE CHICK decided to put me on hold AGAIN. After putting me on hold for about 5 minutes.. she COMES OUTSIDE WITH THE RUDEST RESTING B!@%$ FACE, stares me down and just hands me the cake without saying a SINGLE WORD and walks away as I am talking to her to say "hey, you don't have to be so rude". So whoever that chick was - because of your attitude, AND your lack of customer service AND empathy for mothers.. I will never return for a cake. No matter how great the cakes taste and how amazing/talented/wonderful Tamela is. RUDE CHICK, whoever you are - you need an attitude and empathy check. There are many ways that you can communicate with customers that you might disagree with- but you chose the wrong new mom to mess with. - - - - *UPDATE* shortly after my review was posted- I received a response from her (included here in images). She seems to think it's okay to mom-shame me and forgot that I called in advance and asked if it was okay to have this brought out since I didn't want to leave my baby in the car. If the answer was no, I wouldn't have bothered to come and would have asked someone else to go pick it up. Simple as that. It's unfortunate that due to her lack of follow through and memory she thinks she can be even more rude and that it's okay to leave a baby at home alone. Who in their right mind would do that? Guess RUDE CHICK would.

I would recommend the Sweet Side to all brides - we had a really good experience. I worked with Mindy for a 2-tiered wedding cake and some additional sweet bites for a dessert bar. She did a great job of answering all my initial questions and worked with me up until after contracting. We got a to-go tasting box and the hard part was narrowing down the two cakes and icings we wanted on the cake. We went with their famous carrot cake and cream cheese buttercream and the almond cake with swiss meringue buttercream. I also ordered their variety pack of bars to try, and they were really yummy too. The only downside of the tasting experience is that they don't offer tasters or anything less than an order of 3 dozen of an particular item off the Sweet Bites menu if you want to try it (i.e., the fruit crisp shooter we ordered for the wedding, we never got to try it beforehand). Being a foodie and a type A person, that was a bit of a bummer and a little risky but not a huge deal. I liked that you could rent beautiful white dessert displays from them - it was one less thing to worry about when planning a wedding and they looked great. My now husband and I were pretty set on a simple design and we sent them a picture of what we liked, and they delivered exactly that! The cake was simple yet still a statement and delicious. After being on a diet for months, I choose to have leftover cake as my choice for breakfast the day after the wedding. Yum!

I stopped by over the weekend and tried the almond croissant and an iced vanilla latte. I was honestly surprised by how reasonably priced everything was, especially considering it's in such a tourist-heavy area. For comparison, the coffee shop upstairs (storyville) had lattes for around $8.50, while here we got two coffees AND two pastries for about $24 total. For the quality, I thought that was a really good value. I order vanilla lattes everywhere I go, and this one was fantastic. The space itself is also pretty large -- we were able to find seating easily even on a sunny Sunday afternoon in Seattle. It was very crowded, but still found a spot and the long line went by quickly. I'd definitely recommend stopping by if you're visiting Seattle!

When asking for the most popular item, the friendly employee said the almondine (almond croissant) would be the must-try. I have to say- it was a great croissant, but not the best I've ever had. However, I did think the pricing was very reasonable here. There is a small selection of indoor seating, and of course, they have a full coffee menu to enjoy, too. The vibe felt somewhat formal and not the cozy local bakery vibe I enjoyed at other spots in Seattle. The hardest part about visiting Pike Place is that there is so much to choose from and so much competition. Are there better bakeries? Probably. Is Le Panier great and easily accessible on the main strip of Pike Place? Yes. That fact makes it a great choice for your pastry needs.

Through several visits: Baguette, Large ($7.95) - Great baguette with bubbling golden exterior complete with the perfectly baked crust even after waiting 3 hours before cutting in and eating. The interior has the perfect moisture level and is delightfully soft and chewy. The taste overall has a deep developed flavor. This is a great baguette. The only problem - the price. I can find ones for half the price that are maybe 80% as good as this one. (5/5) Seasonal Biscuit ($4.50) - This biscuit definitely isn't Southern-style. It's more of a drop biscuit, combining a relatively soft and tender interior with a nice exterior crust, without any flakiness or layering. The interior is almost cake-like in texture and crumb, and is plenty moist. They add plenty of fresh black pepper inside. It's distributed very evenly, giving a peppery bite with every mouthful. Parmesan is added to the top of the biscuit before baking, giving plenty of umami and richness but only on the upper layer. (4/5) Green Vinaigrette Cafeteria Style Pizza ($6.25) - The pizza is kept under a warming lamp, so it starts getting a little dried out after I assume a couple of hours spent there. I do love the base though - it's focaccia-like giving a really crunchy dark golden brown crust underneath, which supports the toppings. The pizza slice has lots of structural integrity and doesn't flop over. There's a base of fragrant concentrated tomato paste-like flavor which is topped with a very even layer of cheese. Since it's warmed rather than freshly baked, the cheese starts congealing a bit. The cheese is peppered with parsley, garlic, and a bunch of mustard seeds, giving a special zing. The toppings go all the way to the sides of the pie, making it great for people who dislike crust. Even though it's cafeteria style pizza that's kept under heat lamps, I quite liked it. I wonder if I can get a really fresh slice if I get there right at 11AM when lunch starts. (5/5) Chocolate Croissant ($6.10) - Great lamination with a very aesthetic honeycomb pattern. Baked on the harder side, causing fantastic crispy flaky layers to flake off, but also creating a darker golden brown character that is on the verge of bitterness. Nicely buttery soft and chewy interior. Chocolate is a darker variety, probably somewhere around 70%, so it has a pleasing balanced sweetness and chocolate flavor. It's not typical baton, instead seems to be a section from a bar. Still warm and melty even through I didn't eat the croissant until ~30 minutes after purchasing. When cooled down further, some red fruity notes start appearing, so this seems to be be pretty high quality. (5/5) White Sourdough ($12.60) - Now this is a loaf of bread. Superb crust, probably 2 or 3 times as thick compared to competitors, creating a supreme crusty bite with a chew approaching a hard crunch with almost caramelized molasses notes on the bottom. The interior is moist and tender with a pleasing slight sourdough tang. It's a superb piece of craftsmanship. (5/5) Kouign Amann ($5.80) - This is another heavier bake with some acridity development on the top surface. Unlike many other bakeries where the kouign amann is basically a differently shaped croissant with sugar glaze, Sea Wolf's version feels more in line with tradition. The crumb is denser and richer, more like brioche. There's interesting black speckling inside which I believe is due to the inclusion of espresso powder given the mild coffee-like flavor. The crust is again baked hard, but it's lighter and not as flaky as the croissant. They sprinkle just a bit of salt on top of a very light caramelized sugar glaze. It's not very sweet and I didn't find it too salty unlike some other reviewers. (5/5) Plain Focaccia Slice ($4.80) - Good quality olive oil, some salt sprinkled on top to boost the flavors. Light and airy interior, but the exterior is a little wan, being more light golden brown and lacking some good crusty crisp especially on the fried bottom. Quite oily. (4/5) Sea Wolf gives out free sourdough starter, which can be requested from the cashier. Since picking it up several weeks ago, I've gone through several feed/bake cycles for making sourdough focaccia. I've visited Sea Wolf 3 or 4 times in the last month. That's a testament to how high quality their pastries and breads are. I think the only thing stopping me from visiting more is thanks to the starter I got from them fanning my baking instincts. I bake so much now that I don't have any need to buy their bread! Note: Sea Wolf charges a 3% credit card fee. This is not noted on their menu - it only appears in the POS right before paying. Kind of sketchy. Bathrooms - Single unisex room

They also have mochi donuts and other pastries but I fell in love with the cinnamon rolls. Inside has plenty of seating and the staff is friendly. Prices are standard. Wish I lived closer!

I visited Dahlia Bakery in downtown Seattle during a business trip from Florida, and it turned out…read moreto be a really memorable breakfast stop. I ordered an extra bacon and cheese sandwich on a toasted English muffin, and it was excellent. The muffin was perfectly toasted, the bacon was crisp and flavorful, and the cheese complemented everything really well. It was simple, fresh, and very satisfying to start the morning. The bakery itself has a very pleasant atmosphere. It feels warm, welcoming, and comfortable, making it a great place to sit down and enjoy a quiet breakfast in the city. To finish, I tried a slice of triple coconut cream pie to go, and it was absolutely heavenly. Rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced, it easily stood out as one of the highlights of the visit and something I won't forget anytime soon. Overall, Dahlia Bakery delivered great food, a relaxing atmosphere, and an outstanding dessert. Since I was only in Seattle briefly for business, I'm not sure when I'll be back, but I'm glad I had the chance to experience it.

I've been to Temple Pastries a few times now, mostly for getting pastries and drinks to go. As the…read moreother reviews indicate, there can be very long lines depending on the time of day that you get there. There really has been no rhyme or reason on when there are long or short lines, but for your sake, hope that you get a short line. Inside, there is a decent amount of seating upstairs and downstairs (though only one bathroom), but this seems like it would be a great spot to meet with a friend or coworker or try to get some work done. I'm a big fan of the horchata brioche donut, so that's what I recommend you try. The pastries are reasonably priced and freshly made, and if you don't like things that are too sweet they will be perfect for you. I think the only complaint I've had is the drinks the barista has made can be very hit or miss, especially once with Chai I had. The barista was nice enough to remake the drink, but that's probably one area of improvement. Overall, this is a great little spot and I look forward to coming back again.

The breakfast sandwiches available after 0700 are savor-y and packed with flavor. I see issues with customer service and I get it. Sometimes, the person taking my order isn't very thrilled. The other day, when I asked to confirm a particular drink was mine (as the drink was prepared for to-go instead of here), I received a judgemental stare. But I come here often and have learned how busy they get. I get exhausted just watching them! and I am so grateful this cafe is here. As someone coming from another cafe-focused city, this was the first place that really made me feel like I was home. Stellar food, beverages, and ambience. Only other complaint is lack of outlets for charging.

I ordered a 16oz iced oat milk mocha and loved how perfectly the chocolate was incorporated into my drink! It tasted sweet and the coffee added the robust flavour I love in my mochas My boyfriend had never tried a Moroccan Fog before and he loved how sweet it was without him having to add sugar. He especially loved that it had just the right amount of mint flavoring without being toothpaste For breakfast, I ordered their fruit danish! I love that they had different options of fruit to pick from and I chose blueberry! The pastry was perfectly flaky and I loved how fresh the blueberry tasted. My boyfriend ordered the chocolate croissant because he was excited at the idea of the chocolate being piped through the croissant and also drizzled over the top, but it turns out the dark brown parts on top are just design and not more chocolate. Still, he was pleased with the amount of chocolate in the croissant and the bite I had was heavenly. The champagne cake caught my eye as I was ordering and I just had to try a bite, it was absolutely delicious and fresh. I loved how light the cake was and the layers of flavour through the whole dessert! I love how bright and airy the cafe is! My boyfriend and I were easily able to find seating by the windows and enjoyed the gorgeous view of the space needle and people watching as we shared breakfast. The staff here was also patient and welcoming. We'll definitely have to come back and try more of their pastries!!

All the pastries except for the regular butter croissant were available, and we were able to place an order for the kimchi focaccia and sakura swiss roll, which were slated to come out around 10am. Service was super friendly! I got the hojicha latte, the okonomiyaki frittata, black sesame cookie, kimchi focaccia, and sakura swiss roll. The hojicha latte was rich and earthy in the best way, and it went really well with the black sesame cookie, which had a great strong sesame flavor, and the texture was perfectly chewy! The focaccia was pillowy and chewy at the same - I could've eaten five of these on their own. The frittata was my least favorite item, but by no means am I saying that it's bad! I thought the sauces overpowered it a bit, and the frittata itself was a bit bland - I couldn't even tell it had sweet potato in it, but it was cooked really well. There was ample seating in the heated patio, but parking was a little confusing, though we got lucky with the small lot right next to the store. There were a lot of signs that said no parking along the street in front, but it seemed like a lot of cars were parked there?

I don't know if they rotate their pastries or if they just sold out of everything but only items on display case were the chocolate cookie, sesame cookie, the sakura chiffon roll, savory focaccia, apple cake and maybe one other item. I really was looking forward to trying a cardamom croissant or bun but they didn't have either available. My iced latte was alright. Nothing to go crazy over. The cherry foam for an additional $2.00 was very pretty but that's where it stopped at. Absolutely no cherry or sakura flavor. Disappointed. The sesame cookie had a great smell to it. The aroma of sesame was strong. The cookie had a nice crisp to the edge and a chewy center. The sesame taste wasn't as strong as the smell. The spicy chicken sandwich on special was not spicy at all. It was overwhelmingly sweet from the orange glaze/sauce on the kitchen. It was a decent sandwich and I definitely finished it. Just not something I would gravitate back to. I understand the reviews about how this place doesn't live up to some extra hype. It's decent, solid and a great option for the area but to go out of your way for and wait thirty minutes in line? Not really.
