2 tiered rustic vanilla cake with lemon curd - $140
Katie A.

I contacted Johanna about making a two tiered rustic cake for a friend's baby shower. I sent her a few pictures and she assured me that what we wanted was no problem. This past weekend on the day of the shower, I met up with her and she passed off the cake to me. It was wrapped perfectly for easy transport. Initially I was worried about how I would get it in one piece to the shower -- so this really eased my mind. I peered into the top of the box and it looked pretty good, and I was on my way. Upon arrival at the shower, we pulled the cake from the box (without any issues!) and it was absolutely perfect and just what I had asked for. The cake was delicious (white cake and lemon curd) and easily served the 40 people in attendance. We even had some left over. I will happily use Delicately Sweet Confections again when I need a fancy cake or dessert and will refer anyone who is looking for something similar their way. I felt pricing was very fair and her level of communication was great.

I was so happy with everything about working with Johanna at Delicately Sweet Confections. She was prompt and polite and listened to exactly what I wanted for my wedding cake and offered different options on how to achieve the look that I wanted. Johanna personally delivered it to my venue and decorated it with flowers. The design turned out even better than I anticipated! And the taste?! WOW!! It was a carrot cake with cream cheese filling and was so delicious that my mother (who hasn't eaten sweets in 3 years) had a big slice! Excellent reviews from all of my guests. The cake was a highlight of my wedding, for sure!

Johanna made cupcakes for my bridal shower, and cupcakes plus a small cutting cake for our wedding. The cupcakes were delicious and also beautiful, and she executed perfectly on the vision we had for our cutting cake (to go with our cake topper). We were also able to purchase Gluten Free cupcakes needed for some of our guests, and they were just as good as the others. Johanna was easy to work with in determining flavors and quantities. We scheduled and participated in a tasting to help us select wedding cake flavors and she offered a good variety to sample, it was a difficult choice. Communications through the ordering and purchasing process were professional and timely, and most importantly we had cupcakes that everyone loved! If you want a high quality, professional cake or pastry for any occasion, I highly recommend Delicately Sweet Confections!

Johanna was such a joy to work with! She made our wedding cake and a variety of desserts and we got tons of compliments, especially on the delicious bundt cakes. Johanna's options are plentiful and she is flexible. She requested that I have a decision on what I wanted a month before the wedding, and I literally changed my mind the day it was due and it was no problem for her. Additionally, her set up presentation is lovely. She made for us: our wedding cake (lemon cake with blackberry inner icing and buttercream outer icing), mini blueberry and raspberry bundt cakes, cream puffs, merengue's, and 2 different flavors of macarons which she and my wedding planner, Julia Pavlovski of Wedding Wise Seattle, boxed up all pretty together the night before out big day. The only thing I wish had been different is me being able to have more than one bite of cake and one merengue! But life just isn't always fair for a bride. *sigh*

OMG, the cake! Our wedding guests (and us) loved it and wouldn't stop talking about it! I was lucky enough to have a piece saved for my breakfast the next morning. The best breakfast ever. :) Working with Johanna for our wedding was a pleasure. She responds promptly over email and communicates well. Payment was very easy and done online. I follow her Instagram and asked her to recreate a design in our wedding color, which she did beautifully. Her cake designs are really pretty, plus she also makes other smaller desserts in lieu of cake. Our cake and frosting tasting was so fun---we went in thinking we would get chocolate cake, but were blown away by the snickerdoodle cake with cinnamon frosting---you have to get it! We loved it so much that I plan to order it again for a birthday.

We decided we wanted to have a dessert buffet and a small wedding cake for the bridal party instead of trying to get a large cake to feed everyone. Boy did Delicately Sweet Confections deliver! Johanna made a suite of desserts that were all color coordinated with our wedding colors (she even did a blue gradient on our macaroons). Not only were they beautiful, but they were also delicious too. I couldn't be happier with how everything came out. The only regret I have was not ordering more desserts.

Wedding Cupcakes by Delicately Sweet Confections

I had desserts from Delicately Sweet Confections at my wedding (November 2010) in lieu of a traditional cake. Upon consultation and discussion, the owner Johanna, whom I had purchased from at a few Farmer's Markets, helped me choose two flavors of cupcakes to offer my guests- yummy pumpkin and red velvet! Additionally, we decided that a it would be a good idea to have a small cake, we requested a square Hummingbird, to serve as a cupcake pyramid topper for cutting. Regarding the order, whenever there was questions about the details from either our side or hers, Johanna effective communicated. She also worked with my request to supply and/or use specific cupcake decorations and wrappers to match my decor. The cupcakes were full of flavor and had a great texture. Our guests liked the fun dessert. The topper cake was a great addition to the traditional elements of our reception. The cupcake display and cutting cake looked great in our photos and were a wonderful focal point in the reception space. It must be noted that, when the big weekend arrived, a snowed in Seattle did not stop my cupcakes from arriving on time for setup by Delicately Sweet employees and my venue's workers. Recommended!

Johanna was awesome to work with for our elopement mini-wedding. We hired to Johanna to make a small wedding cake and a dozen cupcakes for our wedding. She was incredibly responsive, detail oriented, and also patient in answering my questions about our cake. I consider myself an accomplished baker, and was incredibly impressed at her flavors, cake consistency, and final product! We first got a tasting box, just to see what we liked. We ended up getting browned butter cream cheese frosting, vanilla cake, with raspberry curd filling. We also threw in a dozen cupcakes, (half snickerdoodle flavored)--and had it delivered so we didn't need to worry about anything. Her delivery was exactly on time, and everyone our tiny wedding complimented the cake and wanted to know where it was from! Thank you, Johanna! Highly recommend Johanna because of her responsiveness, attention to detail, and expertise. She literally thought of everything so we didn't have to.

It was such a pleasure to work with Johanna. She made a small cake and mini cupcakes for our wedding and they turned out beautifully and were so delicious! She was easy to work with and very affordable. We were able to rent cake stands from her and she came and set everything up on the wedding day. Thank you for everything, Johanna!

We are so happy we went with Delicately Sweet Confections for our wedding desserts! Johanna is wonderful to work with and is passionate about what she does. We had a tasting appointment several months before the wedding and got to try all the options and choose exactly what we wanted. The cake turned out beautiful! We also had her make 3 different flavors of cookies, which were supposed to be wedding favors. However, guests couldn't resist and they were ALL gone before the night was over - huge hit! Would definitely recommend Delicately Sweet Confections for any dessert needs!

They currently offer Matcha, Hoji-Tea, Kuro-Goma (black sesame), and Yuzu (Japanese citrus). The shop itself is very small since it's basically a window shop, either renting space from or connected to Tamari Bar. It's more like a little dessert stand located on the restaurant's patio area, with only a few outdoor tables available. The soft serve was okay, but not as creamy as I was hoping for, and it melted pretty quickly. If you decide to add a syrup flavor, I'd recommend asking for only a small amount. Mine came absolutely drowning in syrup, and honestly, the flavor tasted pretty artificial and overpowering.

First, the negatives that didn't affect my rating: parking is a pain, but that's expected for this neighborhood in Seattle. Seating is also very cramped and tight during the dinner rush. Annoying, yes, but understandable. What did affect the rating was the food itself. The Oreo brownie bingsu looked beautiful, but honestly it just was not very good. I've had much better bingsu elsewhere, even at chains like Snowy Village. It felt more Instagram-worthy than actually enjoyable. The mango cheesecake crepe was even worse. My friend and I literally scraped all the filling off and just ate the crepe itself because the toppings tasted so artificial. The mangoes tasted frozen, the syrup was overly sweet and processed tasting, and the whole thing lacked freshness. For the price, it was genuinely disappointing. The final bill ended up being over $40, which would have been easier to justify if the desserts were memorable, but they really weren't. One last thing: I don't mind tipping when there's actual service involved, but this is essentially counter service where customers are also expected to clear their own trays afterward. Having the tipping screen pop up at checkout after that experience just felt excessive and awkward.
