I took my mom to the Sweet Spot for breakfast and I have to say I was a little underwhelmed.. Our server was Amelia and she was pretty much doing everything; she was waiting tables, cleaning tables, and seating people and with so much on her plate some things slipped through the wayside. We ordered chicken & waffles, which came out hot, fresh and were very tasty, but the coffee was definitely a little weak and needed an expresso shot, but the Expresso machine was not working. They have an array of Java drinks on the menu board, but with one of the main pieces of equipment down selections were limited. The tables still had dishes and leftover food on them and needed to be cleaned but surprisingly the bathroom was in good shape. We wanted some coffee and the Sweet Spot popped up as an option we never had so we decided to try it out. Since we originally only went for coffee and decided we wanted food once we got there, this ended up being a to go order experience. The server that helped us was nice and the place had a few people in it for a weekday morning, but wasn't busy and we didn't have to wait to long for our coffee and food. I ordered a latte, it was fine. Nothing spectacular but it hit the spot. I also ordered pancakes and bacon. When we got home the first thing I noticed was my 2 pancakes were huge and fluffy, so that was a plus. I also noticed my order of bacon was supposed to be 4 pieces and was actually like 8. So, that was really fun! The reason for my 3 star review is because that beautiful surprise double order of bacon also had a surprise piece of thick long black hair.... That really put a damper on the food mood once I saw it. I saw it after the fact so, yes I had already eaten most of my food. The hair was in the bacon box on the extra slices. It's been awhile since I last ate at the Sweet Spot. I will be the first to admit that my expectations were pretty low. However, I was shocked to see that they were packed on a Sunday morning. Thankfully we were able to be seated immediately at what looked to be the last available table. I took that as a good sign. We sat for awhile before our server came to greet us. We hadn't realized that the menu was via a QR code on the table. Once I pulled it up, I was pleasantly surprised to see a menu that was a bit more elevated than the traditional diner food that I remembered before. Just a note that the menu definitely favors carnivores. I ordered the Cali Breakfast Bowl but switched out the cheese and asked for my bacon on the side, which I gave to my son. My daughter ordered the fruit crepe. My son was happy to take advantage of the gluten free French toast. The food was good. My kids ordered an iced chai with oat milk and a hot chocolate with oat milk. Neither were blown away. So I probably would stick to basic drinks like juice or coffee. The inside, quite appropriately, looks like coffee shop. Indeed there is a section of the restaurant devoted to being a coffee shop. My daughter and I stopped here for breakfast. She ordered a chicken sandwich and I ordered the biscuit and gravy bowl. We also both ordered a side of grits. There were a few shortcomings with service that I would not have expected as I have found those to be rather standard for a sit down restaurant. For instance, there was no creamer on the table. We had to ask for it. Then when I asked if the scrambled eggs were from fresh eggs, as opposed to poured out of a carton, the waitress smirked at the suggestion. The grits were not creamy and did not come with butter. When I asked for butter I was given some sort of butter substitute which tasted awful. Finally, we were only given one refill of our coffee during the meal. That being said, my daughter enjoyed her sandwich and seemed to like what she was served there. Almost empty restaurant. Semi full staff. 4 filled tables.... After long wait, someone from the bar area finally said seat ourselves. Ordered drinks, did not receive menus. Didn't know menus are only available thru QR code because no one mentioned it or even where to find menus.. Overheard it (while waiting forever for water and coffee) from another waitress who sat the table long after us. Coffee was bitter and couldn't eat pancakes - no flavor at all beyond bread. Syrup was watered down so much, it was no longer sweet nor represented maple flavor. If food was good, I could easily overlook the service. But food was below a 1 star rating except for the bacon, which was a 10. Busy for a Sunday Brunch and a bit of wait but worth it. Went last Sunday from Brunch and while it was busy and we had to wait a bit, they did an excellent job of moving things so the wait was totally tolerable and understood. We were seated promptly and given our menu's and our server came back shortly but we had still not digested the menu items. We did not realize they do not served a Lunch Menu of Sunday which was a disappointment for my wife who was looking forward to Meatloaf. Stick with the Breakfast Menu. I had the Biscuits and Gravy which were good but not outstanding. Biscuits had a bit of doughy consistency and the gravy was very neutral. The Hash browns which were my side were good but would have like them to be cooked a bit more on the flat top. Should have asked that myself up from. Service was fantastic and food was great. We had a family group of 6 and we got a variety of brunch options on a Sunday. Our server Stacey, was fun, attentive, and took great care of us. A couple of us got omelets, which were nicely filled with our selected fillings. My wife got Avocado Toast, which was very fresh and tasty, topped with scrambled eggs. This was our last meal in Concord since our vacation was coming to an end. Service was good. Prompt, friendly (bordering too much chit-chat), attentive. The atmosphere is that of a regular diner; nothing unique that stands out. Definitely a little dirtier than I'd prefer (my youngest dropped her sunglasses onto the floor under our table; they landed in a pile of old eggs). I love a good, strong, fresh cup of coffee - especially in the morning. After taking a sip of my coffee, and then my salty ice water, I looked at my eldest and said: "if the food is anything like the drinks, we're screwed." Lol. The coffee was weak to say the least. It literally tasted as though old grounds had been run through several times over until there was nothing left to brew from them. Breakfast took a while to be served which is a bit unexpected considering there were only 3 total tables and the chicken tenders, biscuit and gravy were obviously premade/prepped and likely came frozen. Overall the food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great for sure. This is run of the mill, basic, you-can-make-this-at-home, breakfast. Sweet Spot: NOT SO SWEET! Food was not good at all, but the worst part was the manager/owner. My daughter ordered a waffle. It came out hard/overcooked AND cold. She asked for chocolate chips that would not even melt on the hard waffle. We spoke to the waitress (quite nice btw), who took it back but clearly came back with the same cardboard like waffle (btw chips were still not melted). So clearly food safety codes are not their thing since they supposedly reheated it (not in the microwave), so for clarity a dish that had been tasted at the table went back in from the customer and was placed in a cooking vessel (gross!). When the waitress came back she said "I'm sorry they said that's just how the waffles are" to which I asked, "cold?" The manager came out and said nothing was wrong with the waffle and that he wasn't going to make another one. It took everything in my power not to walk out. What a disappointing experience. This used to be a nice place Would never come back to this dump, specifically because the owner was a complete jerk. And to boot a cup of luke warm tea was almost 4 bucks and their "fruit cup" (also nearly 4 bucks) was completely out of season, hard and spoiled. SAVE YOUR MONEY. DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!
