I'll be honest, I've never been much of a food truck person. Growing up, they weren't really my go-to for meals. But I know things have changed--food trucks have come a long way since then, and now you can find some top-notch dishes being served up, not just here in the East Bay, but across the country. Take this Mexican food truck, for instance. I hadn't heard of it before, and I probably wouldn't have if it weren't for the countless hours I've spent enjoying too many beers at Ghost Town Brewing over in West Oakland, off Adeline St. It's not a part of town I usually hang out in, but GTB is cool, and Taco Panzón... well, read on. Usually, I don't grab food when I'm out drinking, but that changed once Taco Panzón showed up. After the first time, there was a second, and then, "Hey, Taco Panzón is here again!" Now, I'd say 8 times out of 10, if their grey truck is parked outside, I'm ordering something. I started with a veggie burrito, but over time I've worked my way through all their options--carnitas, asada, pollo, and chicharrón. Every one of them is excellent. Each burrito comes with a choice of mild (green) or spicy (red) sauce, with pickled jalapeños on the side if you want some extra kick. Their tacos are just as tasty--I've tried a few different meat options there too, along with their tortas and nachos. Speaking of the nachos, they come loaded with meat (if you want), beans, cheese, jalapeños, and salsa. I've only ever had them fully loaded, and they're amazing every single time. The prices are a bit higher than some other authentic Mexican spots I've been to, but the food pairs perfectly with a GTB beer. Step aside Sinaloa, Taco Panzon is now my go-to for carnitas and al pastor tacos that is tastier and at a better cost! The meat on the carnitas has a delectable tenderness with a slight bite/crunch to it that is sublime. It's not as oily as Sinaloa's, and when paired with a side of cucumber, is pretty refreshing. The al pastor has a sweet taste and is not shy about being bold in BBQ flavor. The tacos come up with your usual radish, pickled carrots, jalapeno and sauce (mild or spicy), and also cucumber. You can see and taste the individual ingredients in the sauce that they use for the tacos. And the spicy version is pretty forward -- I would say it's spicier than the average. I also like their deluxe carne asada burrito which is a relatively thin but long, and tastes pretty good too. It's fairly balanced in taste with sour cream and beans, and won't leave you feeling too overwhelmed. I like ordering this with 4 carnita/pastor tacos. Martha and staff are friendly and courteous. I managed to spot them a few times at GhostTown Brewing off Adeline on some weekends from 2pm-8pm , but otherwise you're better off catching them around lunchtime off Campbell and West Grand. If you want to be sure, you can always call Martha, who can tell you where and when they will be serving. They take credit cards too. read more

When your car window has been "bipped" (as the kids say) and you're waiting for it to get replaced, one might long for a bit of culinary respite. On Grand Ave, there are a plethora of Food Truck options but you would be wise to pass up the rest and head to Panzon. I recommend the Tacos over the Burrito unless you're planning to eat while driving. Please don't drive and taco. The extra $1 for Avocado is well worth it. The put a heavy slab on each Taco and layer it within the Burrito so that you get a chunk in every bite. Pro tip: ask for refried beans and both salsas. read more

The entire ambiance, the crew that frequents it; it is a community you want to be a part of. They have two chairs you can sit on and gulf down some tacos and be on your way. Not somewhere to sit and dine but for a quick pick me up it is highly recommended. The lady taking my order was friendly, and warned me against the hot sauce. She told me it would be 20 minutes, which the GPS confirmed, however I took a wrong turn... When I arrived she told me my food had been ready for a while, and I gave her the $20. I sat in my car an killed 4 tacos, probably could have eaten the burrito two but paced myself. An hour into my journey, I opened the burrito and ate it as I drove, not only was it delicious but, full of meat! This place is unbelievable! Today was my first time and I got 3 tacos deluxe (carnitas and al pastor) and the entire time I was making yummy noises and looking at them in disbelief. Mind you, I lived in the mission for 11 years, and have hunted all over the bay for the best tacos available. These are seriously legit. Can't wait to go back! The hours are super limited. It's so flavorful and they even put a little bit of pineapple in the taco. It's pure heaven. The chicken is properly spiced and really good, tender, and amazing. This place is a must-go.
