WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF stands for Welcome Taco Fanatics according to their neon sign inside. But I was saying WTF for the wrong reasons. I had come here once before and as a new concept to me at the time, the birria taco and ramen was an intriguing combo. But on my second visit I was less than impressed. I ordered 2 birria tacos and 1 chicken and 1 al pastor taco with side of rice and beans. It took almost 40 MINUTES to get just these 6 items! WTF!! I like that the birria tacos are deep fried. But the birria consume', which is like the au jus for the tacos, must be ordered a la carte. WTF!! This doesn't make sense. It's like ordering french fries then having to pay for ketchup. By the way, if you order the Birria Ramen, you only get the Tapatio instant noodles cup of ramen with a little bit of birria meat inside which they charge $11.99. It doesn't even come with a birria taco. WTF!! On a side note, the tacos are small, like a little bigger than street taco small. You would have to order at least 4 just for yourself which will put you close to $20! WTF!! The other thing that was highly irritating was that the digital menu boards were constantly switching graphics and did not stay on the single image of the menu. WTF!! So you cannot read the menu for an extended period of time without interruption. This place is way over-priced for what it is, almost to a point where they are ripping people off. I would have given 1 star to Taco Spot but the fact that the cashier threw in my consume' at no cost (probably due to the fact that we waited so long) awarded them an extra star. I've been wanting to try The Taco Spot for quite some time and I'm sad to say that I'm a little disappointed. I think part of it is my fault though. I wasn't aware that when I ordered the Ramen and 2 Birria Tacos Combo that I'd be getting a $2.50 container of Tapatio Instant Noodle Soup with extras thrown in. There wasn't a lot of Birria in the bowl, which was even more disappointing. It tasted okay, but it just didn't wow me. I felt like I could have done something similar with the instant Ramen that I have at home. I will, however, give credit where credit is do and say that the two Birria tacos were excellent! I absolutely love the Taco Spot in Mesa! It was my fist time ever going to Taco Spot but had heard really good things about it from my 3 adult kids. I got the Birria ramen with two tacos and two surf and turf burritos that were large and just pack-filled with steak and shrimp!! Wow! They were AMAZING!!!! I couldn't wait to go back even though it's much farther away. The young male kid though taking our orders was not friendly at all and couldn't even muster a smile or thank you when I went with my 3 kids and we all ordered separately. He truly seemed to hate his job! It wouldn't kill that kid to say hi and thank you. I found out there was a Taco Spot in Chandler not far from work so I couldn't wait to go there since the Mesa one is far from work and home. The service was very good. The guy behind the counter was very friendly and helpful. However, when I got home, my burritos were noticeably smaller than the ones in Mesa and it hardly had any steak in it at all,and the shrimp was all at the bottom end of the burrito. When I first started eating it, I thought they left out the shrimp till I was almost finished eating it. The burritos just were not as good as the Mesa Taco Spot burritos; not even close! I was so disappointed. I definitely won't go to that location again, so I'm looking forward to going out of my way to the Mesa location to get those awesome big, stuffed burritos and ramen, or trying the Tempe location. Inside it's pretty clean but staff not helpful I let them know it was our first time there but they where not helpful at all . The absolute BEST Carna Asada fries I've EVER had in my life until I became deathly ill. (Yes, very ill!!! ) The front staff are super nice, especially Leslie.. she's so friendly and patience ( watching her take others orders who seemed confused). Came in for the first time to try out their street tacos which are $2 on Tuesday. I had 4 birria tacos and 2 al pastor, accompanied by a consome. Unfortunately the tacos were beyond tiny, I literally removed one tortilla and combined 2 tacos into 1 and still didn't fill the small tortillas. The Al pastor was bland with no flavor. We ordered the loaded fries with carne asada, the Birria ramen, two Birria tacos with consomé and two without cheese so they were served as soft tacos instead. Out of everything that we tried, we thought the loaded fries were the best. The carne asada had a nice flavor. The tacos were just ok and the ramen just didn't do it for us. A Birria ramen sounded like a great idea since we love both, but the flavors didn't work for us here. We added salt and lime juice but it still left a lot to be desired. It was also pretty spicy making it hard to really enjoy the dish. Just to be fair, we think now that we have tried Birria taco with consomé twice, it doesn't seem to be the kind of flavor we are looking for. Our experience with Birria tacos has been only on a soft corn or flour tortilla with a ton of toppings including pickled onions which have an extra punchy flavor. Because of that, we feel that we are finding the flavor of Birria without all those toppings flat. Prices here are on the higher side. We paid $56+ for the food. $17.58 for the ramen alone. We were somewhat surprised the tablet was not turned to us to add a tip but we later saw that there was a 4% checkout fee! Seating is very limited. Food came out and I give it five stars! The tacos were loaded with meat and not fillers. The nachos are noteworthy. The chips are thick and fried fresh so they don't get soggy underneath all the cheese and toppings galore. So much meat. No sour cream and guac but it was so good with the meat, chopped onions jalapenos and cilantro it didn't need anything else. The topping to chip ratio was great! Wish there was more shrimp but at least there was a lot of steak. Service could be better. It was a small place and super busy the whole Time we were there. But would totally go back. We came after the UFC fights on a SATURDAY and wanted to try this spot before they closed because we haven't tried it and I get it 30 minutes before they closed but clearly they already cleaned up because we ordered about $120 worth of food but all staff had terrible attitudes, they were making faces, reiterating the same thing over and over. "You know this will be Togo right" even thought from the beginning or ordering we said "it's going to be togo" ourselves and there were people in there with us at the same time, we just so happened to be the last order. Then they played the it's going to be 20 minutes for carne asada after saying no shrimp and we agreed that it was ok then cashier goes "wait let me ask the kitchen first" and of course the window is right there and we see they want to say no but have to say yes for the business. Entire time staff was just giving us dirty looks. Walking past us she was even side-eyeing us lol like we get it. I've worked in the food industry, I know how it goes. If you want to get out on time, you clean up right away but that doesn't accommodate the last minute stragglers. I figured this was a small business brand since its owner operated but I guess they don't care about business at all and would much rather get out early. taco spots are also known as one of the top foods for people to come late night after drinking but if you want to get out earlier adjust your times and attitudes. Pros: -The birria was good for my first time trying birria in the states. Nothing compares to good ol' birria in Mexico though. I would; however, eat it again. When it comes to taste it is all about opinion and preference. In my humble opinion, I was not a fan of the tacos as a whole. The birria itself, great. Not a fan of the cheese melted on the tortilla or the type of corn tortilla they choose to use. Could definitely use more cilantro and onions. Horchata - super sweet and they use extra cinnamon. I've had better. Cons: -The size of the establishment is tiny! They had 1 cashier/server and a line out the door. This place is super busy. -Consome was not what I expected. It was kind of bland. I really liked the very cool, very clean looking truck. Jose recommended their shrimp/steak taco. It was one of the best I ever had and a great value packed with large shrimps and premium steak. Finally got to try the Taco Spot after wanting to for quite some time. It was okay, nothing special but not bad. We tried their birria tacos and burrito, as well as their asada quesadilla. I lived in Southern California for 12 years and this is the closest I've found for Southern California style tacos in the east valley. They have a great mix of various tacos, burritos, quesadillas to choose from and are very generous portions. When I first looked at the choices I had to go with the tacos and specifically the birria and Surf and turf tacos. First off both the tacos are packed with meat and for me, two tacos are plenty to enjoy. What I loved about the tacos is they grilled cheese on the tortillas to add that cheesy gooey with a slight crisp. Love that! Also they make their own tortillas so you get fresh corn tortillas. The birria is packed with meat that was really tasty with the grilled cheese made it a perfect tasting taco. The surf and turf taco was awesome! It's got really tasty carne asada with on the smaller side shrimp with pico and great tasting sauce plus the grilled cheese made it a perfect tasting taco. I wouldn't mind having two of those tacos next time. Once again one of the best taco spots I've had in east valley.
