    Green chile burrito (before)
    Steve B.

Found this gem while looking for tacos and decided to give it a try. As others mentioned it's a little confusing trying to find the place, but just let your nose guide you inside It's like you stepped into a restaurant in Mexico with the workers busy, yelling out orders, smells of fresh food coming in the back and can't wait to order "everything". Didn't take me long to order once I made up my mind (10 minutes lol) but I finally settled on tacos, happy burrito and green chile burrito (yes it's a lot of food, but hey I wanted more than that and had to settle on these to give a fair review) Friendly staff, clean surroundings, great options to choose from the salsa / fixins bar. Even if you're not in the neighborhood give them a try and see for yourself how good they are

    Carne asada torta. YUM!
    Lien S.

I've had my eye on this place for a few years now and I finally went to try it and I am so glad I did! Originally, I wanted to try their torta milanesa (breaded beef) but when I asked which is better between the milanesa or carne asada, the lady at the register said carne asada. Omg, if you haven't tried their torta yet, it's a must! It was so flavorful!!! The carne asada was perfectly seasoned and tender. Wasn't dry at all. The chunks of avocado were fresh and bright, lettuce was crunchy, and the grilled onions were soft and sweet. There was a thin layer of refried beans in there too. I usually don't eat beans and didn't know that was going to be in there but it actually went well with everything else! Top it with some red/green sauce from the sauce bar. Honestly, it didn't really need any sauce but I love food saucy and spicy (the sauces weren't spicy at all though). The torta was pretty big. I saved the other half for later. It's located inside of a market. You'll see it as soon as you walk in. Plenty of tables if you want to eat there. Service was great. Friendly workers and friendly people inside too. I will definitely be back again to try the milanesa next time!

    Happy Burrito

I was confused about the entrance of this restaurant but when entering the mercado, there it was. It felt like a hole in the wall. I tried the Happy Burrito for breakfast, which was filled with steak, chilaquiles with green sauce, beans, and cheese. The burrito was quite large, and the tortilla was notably soft. There is a salsa bar as well. One thing I missed was eggs in the burrito, which I thought would be standard for a breakfast item. Nevertheless, the meal was satisfying, and I'm curious about the other dishes they offer!

Still the best! Can't get enough. I could eat here everyday! Have to get to 85 characters to post this update. Made it!

Finally found some authentic Mexican food! Truly a hidden gem in Chandler. We came on a Saturday night and there were a few folks eating but it wasn't busy at all. It was super easy to order, the menu is expansive. My husband had the Cubano Torta and I had the Vallarta burrito. This burrito was as big as my forearm, no exaggeration. Filled with three types of meat, potatoes, avocado, and cheese, I could barely eat a quarter of it. It was massive. This spot is located in a small plaza with lots of other businesses. It was like taking a step into Mexico. Lovely staff, great food, and a truly authentic experience. We will be back!

Authentic Guadalajara style sandwich artisan style roll stuffed with carnitas and drowned in savory tomato sauce. Salsa bar with pickled red onions, jalapeños, radishes shredded lettuce limes. Everything was delicious and the portion was generous. Service was friendly and efficient. The restaurant ambiance had an authentic feeling of being in Mexico.

Sort of a confusing place because it's tucked in a shopping area. We heard this place is great from friends and it was. I got a beef torta and it was a darn good sandwich. While we were waiting we realized that we were the only non Hispanic people in the place. I'm a firm believer if the folks of that cuisine eat there it's going to be good. The salsas had great flavors and weren't too spicy. The portions are generous.

First time back after 10 years for another Torta lunch with my 2 sons. From Seattle and this place delivers! Love the Tortas.! :)

These tortas are delicious. The red chile is super spicy with taste. I will definitely be coming back to try more items from the menu.

Service was great and the food was very delicious. I recommend this spot for sure. I had the torta and a taco. Super good

Torta Cubano in all its glory...

I havent been in the area long, but finding a decent Mexican restaurant has been a challenge...until today. Tortas Ahogados came up on yelp & one of the first pics was of the ever illusive Torta Cubano. Few places make this & even fewer make it well. It looks great & tastes even better here. I will definitely be back to work my way down the menu. The torta is big, so some folks will want to share, but its a big menu, so you'll find something you love...

Wow!!!! Typically like to keep these little gems to myself. But, this place is legit. True authentic Mexican food. It's in an indoor mini-mart. So you know it's bomb! I ordered the cubana torta (under $9 bucks) It hit all levels of my childhood growing up in La Puente, Ca. As you're ordering your food, you have a woman making fresh tortillas. Gotta come back for tacos :-) Side note: menu prices are cheap. Anytime you can get a Carne asada torta under $8 bucks. #winning

We love this place with friendly & welcoming staff to make your meal like your eating at home with no cleaning up chore. We stopped for an afternoon snack and enjoyed chatting and living a good life.

Still great!! Mexican comfort food as I visit frequently when I need a change up. The staff is always friendly and given that my Spanish is pretty weak, they still make me feel at home when I come thru. I sometimes want to stand at the register as they prepare food just to watch as it reminds me of several other home-style kitchens with my friends. This last time around, we had the Torta Cubana, Torta de Pierna (Shredded port, avocado & sour cream) & some al pastor tacos. All so good... We got greedy when ordering but managed to finish all but half of the Pierna Torta. Everything was good as expected. Remember, this isn't fast food as it's prepared once ordered but it's not a long wait. This place stays in my rotation.

We tried the chicharonnes, which we did enjoy, but the avocado purée that accompanied it tasted very preserved - Possibly with citrus or something else? The tortillas also did not have much flavor. They tasted almost like something pre-packaged that you could purchase in the store. I expect more robust flavor profiles for House-made tortillas. We also tried the ribeye which we ordered medium rare but it came out medium well+. When we told our server about the steak, she did offer to have it remade but we hate wasting food so we declined the offer. We wanted to try the tres Leches cake because we saw another table order it and it looked so interesting. We didn't want the ice cream on top so we asked if there was anyway they could sub out the scoop of ice cream for a single small churro. Our server told us if we purchased the churros, she would give us the Tres Leches on the house to make up for the steak mishap. We accepted the deal though I don't think it appropriately addressed the issue. The tres leches was dense and firm, not like any other that tres leches I've ever had. The churros had a filling (either cajeta or dulce de leche - I really couldn't distinguish) that in my opinion, did not add value. I would've preferred a percentage off the bill or some other proposal to make it right. It just really wasn't there for me. I've talked to several people in the East Valley about this restaurant since I dined there, and seems my experience was shared among those people too.

The nachos ended up being the star of the night. They were loaded, flavorful, and very satisfying. There was plenty of food and they were more than enough for both of us to share. My husband ordered the burrito and finished it pretty quickly because it was on the smaller side. After that we both ended up just sharing the nachos and we were completely full. Since this was a delivery order I cannot speak to the dine in atmosphere or service, but the food was packaged really well and everything arrived intact and still fresh. Nothing was soggy and the portions held up well for delivery, which I always appreciate. The nachos were definitely the highlight and something I would absolutely order again. It was clean, the staff responded quickly to me, but I was the only person at lunchtime on the restaurant side, and there were only two people on the bar side. Despite that it was loud. They need sound attenuation, My server was prompt, and freely shared her menu favorites when I asked. Sadly I'm not really a mole fan, her recommendation, but did try the enchiladas divorciadas. First the chips and salsa... the salsa was basically puréed tomatoes. No heat at all. Just some salt. I asked for something spicier and the server found me some habanero salsa. That was tasty, but it probably had very little habanero in it. Again, no better than a low-med heat. I grew up across the southwest so to me that was disappointing. The enchiladas? I really wanted to like this place but honestly? It was unseasoned boiled and shredded chicken, wrapped in a raw / untoasted tortilla. And drowned in some that was not enchilada sauce. The red sauce tasted like tomato sauce. I'm used to red sauce being pepper based. The spicier and more roasted the better. No pepper discernible. The green sauce tasted like it had a hint of green Chiles but mostly tomatillo. Also boring but better than the red. Neither was good. I ate it, I was hungry and it wasn't greasy, but... this was a midwestern spice-hating simulacrum of an enchilada. No bueno, demasiada aburrida. So to sum it up; decent but slightly loud facility, wonderful server, and I would say forgettable food but the reality is it was unforgettably boring.

My wife can be pretty particular when it comes to carne asada, so she was a little hesitant when I suggested we share it. After a few bites, she couldn't get enough! The carne asada was flavorful, tender, and clearly high quality, and the burrito itself was packed with great ingredients and balanced flavors. The added guacamole was the perfect finishing touch. As much as we loved the burrito, Espo's has become a go-to spot for our family because of their Taco Tuesday special. Their 10-taco plate for around $12 is an incredible value, especially for families. We love that you can mix and match between carne asada, carnitas, ground beef, chicken, and shredded beef, making it easy to get something everyone will enjoy. The restaurant also has that fun, authentic hole-in-the-wall feel while still being a well-established local favorite. It's the kind of place that locals know and love for good reason. And as we can all see from their business managers response to my review, they still refuse to take accountability for their extremely rude service staff. They clearly don't want to do better. I would avoid this place if I were you and I was reading reviews, there are much better places.
