Let me explain why this place is a legendary goodie spot!... Nearly every time I fly in or fly out of John Wayne Airport, I have a hard time going anywhere else!! Without fail, I can walk up to this place and there's either a short line or a very long line, but there's always a line. These guys have a few different secrets to success: 1. Extremely friendly staff.!! tonight I'm going to Spotlight Ruby because she was extremely kind and helpful as we just wanted to get some water and she was able to take care of us on the side without needing to wait back in that really long line. 2. I can easily stop at the fact that this place hand rolls their tortillas.. one of the most exciting things that my kids love about this place is watching the handmaid tortillas being made and knowing how good they taste! Real MAIZ! The flavor of the tortilla alone is undeniable and extremely Mexican taste. 3. The tacos are literally made with love every single one of them.! each one is packed with meat and just watch out because if you don't eat them fast enough, the hand made fresh tortilla will begin to fall apart!! 4. Churros churros churros.!! yes I had to say it three times to get your attention because these are hand pressed churros that go right into that delicious fryer and then come straight out into a little box and rolled in that cinnamon and sugar that those churros are known for!! , Chuy, and delicious!! not to outdo your expectations, but just wait till you dip it into the sauce it comes with 5. My family will literally hold me hostage at the airport just to make sure that I came home with a fresh bag of tortillas. You're wondering if this is any different than the flavor of the tacos? Not at all every single chip is that same legendary taste. 6. The salsa bar is one of my favorite items because they do not hesitate to keep it clean and restocked with all your favorites. They also don't skimp because these are the same sauces that make some of their tacos, legendary and they're allowing you to get even more of each one on your own.! This place isn't that big but for some reason, it's the right size for the amount of people that they rotate in and out of here. The vibe is extremely useful. It seems comparable to a beachside college town vibe with a cross between yoga and Health nuts wanting to get an authentic local flavor at a reasonable cost. If these guys can keep the balance that they have of price and quality this place will continue to be generational as I sit down at this table tonight with three generations of taco lovers Cheers!! and I hope you get a chance to experience a little bit of what I've shared above!!

I tried out Taco Stand for the first time about 4 years ago and it still remains as one of my fav places to eat. You can't beat their yummy tacos and burritos for such a great price. I always get the carne asada burrito with a side of guac. Can't forget to get the avocado salad and extra pico at the salsa bar. It's literally the perfect combo. The line at this location moves a bit slow, but once you order the food comes out pretty fast. So definitely worth the wait.

Stopped by after a long shopping day at South Coast Plaza! It was my first time visiting the Costa Mesa location, and wow... it was packed. The parking lot is surprisingly small, and I managed to grab what seemed to be the last available spot. I'm not sure if there's additional parking nearby, but I did see several cars circling the small lot or waiting with their hazard lights on, hoping someone would leave. That wasn't even the most memorable part, though. The moment I stepped out of the car, I was hit with the incredible smell of grilled meat, tacos, and burritos. It immediately made me even hungrier. Thankfully, the food lived up to the aroma. Otherwise, I would've been seriously disappointed... or maybe I was just starving after shopping all day! Either way, you know it's a good sign when the line stretches out the door. Despite the crowd, the line moved surprisingly quickly. It looked like a lot of people ordered their food to go, which makes sense because seating is pretty limited. There aren't many tables inside, and everything is fairly close together, so I wouldn't recommend coming with a large group. We ordered two tacos and two burritos, and I went with the carne asada burrito. It was huge and definitely filling! We also wanted to try the churros, but unfortunately, they were sold out by the time we got there. I'll definitely have to come back for those. The carne asada burrito was excellent. It was packed with generous portions of juicy, tender, and well-seasoned steak, and every bite was flavorful. It paired perfectly with the sauces from the salsa bar, which was almost as busy as the ordering line. After trying a few, my favorites were definitely the habanero salsa and the avocado sauce. The habanero had just the right amount of heat for me, as most places don't make their spicy sauces spicy enough for me, but this one actually had a nice kick without overwhelming the other flavors. The avocado sauce was smooth, creamy, and balanced everything out perfectly. It added a nice richness to the burrito. Overall, it was well worth the wait, and I can definitely see why this place is so popular. I'll be back, and next time, hopefully early enough to grab an order of churros too!

Not sure how this is the first time I've ever been here, but I will definitely be back! I originally tried to order online and then it told me they weren't accepting online orders. When I arrived, there was a decent amount of people in front of me, however, it took just under 20 minutes. I was shocked that after ordering, my food took less than 5 minutes! I only got two tacos which was the Baja fish and the Mar Y Tierra taco (special menu). Both of these were really good but shockingly I loved the Baja more! Next time I would probably try one of the burritos. I also thought the chips and guacamole pricing was very good and looked like yummy in house tortilla chips.

Expect a wait but the Tierra de mar taco on the specials menu is absolute fire . It is made with shrimp, carne asada and a deep fried cheese topped with avocado, onions, cilantro and their famous sauce! The churros are freshly prepared as you order and the corn, the chips and guacamole and the fries and all additional items you can try if you fancy! If you are a taco lover you don't want to miss the opportunity to try this spot, they even have mushroom tacos for vegans and everything on the secret menu is worth considering...

Really reasonable prices, fast service and great food. What's not to love about The Taco Stand?! I had a Sonora taco, which comes on a flower tortilla and includes beans and Asada, and it was delightful! The only thing they did not offer that I would have liked to have was iced tea.

One of my favorite burrito spots in California! There's a reason why the wait is always so long and people wait a lifetime - because it's so WORTH! Came during my lunch hour and almost fell into a food coma at work after. HAVE TO GET CALIFORNIA BURRITO! I only ate half but still felt so full and had the other half for dinner - and it was still bomb CLASSIC!

Coworker recommended it, so we took a trip over. Parking as always is horrible in The Lab, so I went to the liquor store next door to get my boss a layoff gift before my last day next Friday. But coworker grabbed us Mar Y Tierra burritos. It was quite delicious, even without the salsa or spicy mayo. The tortilla was fighting for its life to contain everything, but that's what foil is for. Also pretty affordable for Costa Mesa. Was like $14, and really filling. Vibe and service were probably nice, coworker wasn't in a panicked state after grabbing. But again, parking is horrible in that center, and shows no sign of improving. Bike over and grab one.

We stopped by The Taco Stand today at the Costa Mesa location. The parking lot is on the smaller side, and while there is indoor seating, you may need to wait for a table since it gets pretty busy. There is also some outdoor seating available to the left of the restaurant or at 1954 bakery. They offer the usual taco meats, burritos, and beer. We ordered two Baja Fish Burritos, what was supposed to be two California Burritos, and a churro. There was a mix-up with our order, but the staff was incredibly nice and ended up comping a California Burrito. In my eyes, the customer service was impeccable. The employees were constantly cleaning tables, picking up after guests, and helping everyone who came through the door. The atmosphere is very casual with a street-food vibe. If you don't want to wait for a seat, takeout, eating outside, or even enjoying your meal in your car are all good options. They also gave us complimentary churros in exchange for a review. The flavor was good, but the texture wasn't quite what we're used to. The inside was a little chewy and soft, whereas we prefer a crispier, hollow-style churro. As for the food, the Baja Fish Burrito was excellent--crispy fish with plenty of fresh vegetables. The California Burrito was also very tasty and packed with generous chunks of steak. The size of the burritos are pretty big. For the price point, service, and food quality, we would definitely come back.

Located in beautiful Costa Mesa is The Taco Stand. Lines at 6:40pm was already out the door & there aren't enough tables to really accommodate patrons. With the lines out the door, it is comforting to know that this place must be good. Orders: Fish taco-a nice strip of grilled fish w/lettuce & tomato was both satisfying & filling. Usually the fish taco's that I have gotten are small, so this was a pleasant surprise. -California Burrito includes French fries(no beans) & Carne Asada. It was filled w/tender well marinated pieces of meat. -Carne Asada w/pinto beans was as expected & good. It was fun to visit this well patronized place.

Coming from SD, I usually love The Taco Stand, but unfortunately I left feeling just a bit disappointed with this location's food. Not sure if it was on off day or just this location, but I found everything lacking a bit of flavor. The meat options all felt under-seasoned, and none of the salsas packed a punch (except for the habanero!) Burrito pricing is great, while tacos are on the pricier side. Overall, the food was still decent and did the job, but definitely not worth fighting for your life in the camp parking lot for.

Tacos 3/5 - these were just ok in my opinion. I don't know if they were having an off day or something because I've heard good things about this place but the tacos were missing some flavor. Salsa bar was nice but none of the sauces were anything special. Churros were really good though! Long wait on a Saturday night and not a lot of seating.

BE PREPARED TO WAIT. I stopped by 2 times during my time in costa mesa, and the food was amazing both times. I came around 8:30pm on sunday and had to wait around 45 minutes to order and for the food. I stopped by at around 2pm on Monday and had to wait 20min. The food was worth the wait. I highly recommend al pastor anything. I loved the tacos and burritos -- both were very juicy and flavorful. They have have a sauce bar with pico, onions, lime, and of course sauces which can enhance the taste.

This place is the spot for tacos! I was in between meals and wanted something to hold me over for dinner so I got 1 Baja fish taco to go. The price was good, the taco was big and delicious, and the aioli sauce was so good. This place was packed for a Sunday afternoon and it was definitely worth the wait. I'll have to come back hungry and try everything. read more

Great taco place! It was my friends and I's first time. The service was amazing, nice, and fast. We enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant with nice seating and great music. My fiancé and I were told by some friends of ours to check out this place out! We've moved nearby just recently and every time we pass by there's always been a line! Well we finally made it at an early time to beat the rush and it was still packed! The dining area is somewhat small for how popular and packed this place gets! We both shared carne asada fries, and the first few bites without any additional sauces and WOW! Made to perfection. Of course you gotta try a bit of all the sauces to see which is your favorite. Ours is the green salsa and cilantro salsa. Beware, the red and habanero have a super spice to them! Enjoy! read more

In the past, I've tried their Al Pastor Burrito and it was pretty good! So highly recommend trying out the burritos. Today, I was craving something a lil more sweet and ended up trying out their churros after hearing good things about it. Ultimately, it was solid for what it was. It comes with three churros and a container of what I believe is condensed milk. Can absolutely tell it was made fresh since it was served pipping hot, a really nice crisp/crunch when biting into it, and it wasn't overly too sweet or cinnamony (big +1 for me). I will say the inside was a lil more cakey, so if you're into that, you'll love this! Not to mention, I've been to a few different locations and this one is the best one I've been to by far with the staff always being super sweet! read more

I've been here many times and would have liked to order lunch take out for client meetings many times but the website doesn't allow take out orders. The phone doesn't go to a live person nor does it even go to the CM location. I asked a question as to why no one answers the phone and they don't allow take out considering in order takeout from Encinitas and mission Viejo several times a week, to find out that the taco stand reported my question instead of answering it and I received a BS REPLY from "Yelp HQ." Seriously? Give me a break. read more

Ive been to The Taco Stand in Vegas about 5 years ago and it w as amazing. Barely realized about two weeks ago that this location here is the exact same restaurant lol and it's been open for 3 years. The Taco Stand at the Camp does not help the parking problem there but that definitely beats driving down to San Diego to get their tacos. I'm a happy camper with just the carne asada and Baja fish tacos, carne asada fries, plus a Mexican Coke in a bottle. Add their house cilantro cream dressing to anything and it will taste amazing. That thing is like crack. Such a shame we waited way too long for our food to come out though. I hope they get their efficiency down to better serve their customers before they get hangry. read more

This place has the freshest and most bomb tasting food. I love the cali burrito and the carne asada fries!!! No matter what you order it's all as fresh as fresh is. The churros are absolutely AMAZING!!!! Everything about this place is awesome!! Everything is made to order. Staff is nice and friendly and what better way to kick off whatever you're doing with some BOMB food. When a place is always busy, that's when you know this is where it's at. read more

Finally I get to try these homemade tortillas I've been hearing about. Came on a Saturday around 5pm and was thrilled we were only 3d in line. I should have known we were in for a long wait after noticing everyone in the dining area was waiting for their food. I ordered 6 tacos to-go and 45 minutes later our order was ready. Yes 45 minutes later!!! The employees seemed extremely lackadaisical making the tacos and were more just goofing off as we could watch through the glass window as we waited outside. The tacos were great... but not worth the wait. Maybe this is how they roll as I always see lines out the door when I drive by. For a taco stand with JUST tacos and burritos this place is a bit overrated. But worth a try if you're patient enough to wait. read more

Came here for dinner on a Sunday night around 6:30 and it was super packed. They have seating but for the amount of people in there, it was still pretty crowded and people had to stand or wait for tables to clear up. The salsas, sauces and limes were self serve. My friends and I got a couple diff types of tacos. The Al pastor, carne asada, fried fish, shrimp, and their specials which were Al pastor tostada and carne asada tostada. The al pastor and shrimp were okay in my opinion. The carne asada was really good and the fried fish was pretty good too. The tostadas were excellent and crispy. Because it was so busy, they forgot our Al pastor tacos and we had to go up to the counter and let them know. The cashier and pick up area get really hectic. The cashier delivered our Al pastor directly to our table after though. Overall, this place is pretty good but if you can, go during an off hour so it's not as hectic and you'll get good seating. read more

I've been wanting to try the Taco Stand since the Laguna location opened. My mom finally did a few weeks ago and RAVED about it, so we ordered take out from the Costa Mesa location last night and it was phenomenal! The baja taco, chicken quesadilla, and carne asada fries were lovely, as was the carne asada burrito, althought I wish it came with rice over fries inside. You could tell the meal was good quality, not overly cheesy or fatty, the meats were all cooked perfectly, and no one felt gross afterwards! The pricing is also absolutely beyond! It competes with chain fast food restaurants while offering food with 10x the quality. Love it here! read more

This is one of our favorite mexican food spots and a staple in our family! Usually pretty busy so be prepared to wait for a table to open up unless you come at a non-peak time! This place feels authentic but with a modern/updated twist. The tacos and burritos are super good and they have so many yummy sauces (the Chipotle Salsa is our FAVORITE)!! I think they changed some of their flavors/recipes recently but thankfully the quality is still there. The staff is efficient and friendly as well which is always a plus (Erica is so sweet)! So good!! I got to try this place in San Diego first before trying the Irvine location but the Irvine location held up just as well. I got the camaron taco and the shrimp was sooo good. This taco is a bit more expensive than some of the other tacos but I like it because it comes with more in the taco like avocado. The service was decently quick and there are a fair amount of tables though you may need to wait for one while you wait for your food to be made. I do like the look of the inside though! I love this place because of their sauce and toppings bar where you can take unlimited amounts of salsa and limes and more. Parking is kind of a mess here because there really aren't enough parking spots for rush hours so just beware of that! Overall, some of the best tacos in the area! read more

I recently visited The Taco Stand and let me tell you, it was a feast for the senses. First of all, let's talk about the food. I had the pleasure of indulging in the carne asada and al pastor tacos, and my taste buds were transported straight to flavor town. The meat was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy, with just the right amount of seasoning. And the toppings! Don't even get me started on the toppings. The cilantro, onion, and salsa fresca were like a symphony of taste explosions in my mouth. It was so good, I could've eaten a dozen more if my waistline and self-respect weren't holding me back. But it's not just the food that made this experience so great. The service was top-notch as well. The staff was friendly, efficient, and didn't bat an eye when I grabbed extra lime (because, let's face it, the only thing better than a good taco is a good taco with extra lime). And the ambiance? Don't even get me started on the ambiance. The colorful decor and lively atmosphere made me feel like I was on vacation in Mexico, instead of just a few blocks away from my office. I love the food here. Tacos, burritos, churros. And very reasonably priced. Working nearby, I've frequented this spot quite a few times since they opened. However, there is a major issue with their ordering system. I gave them the benefit of the doubt that they would work out the kinks having just opened, but it's still an issue. My coworkers have all had similar experiences. Today, I ordered online and arrived when they said it would be ready. I went to the register to ask about my order and the server looked through a stack of receipts and pulled mine. She said she would let the cooks know that I was there. At that point, I think my order ticket went to the back of the line and I waited an additional 20 minutes. I noticed the cook place a bag near the window without calling a name and walked up and saw it was my order. Had I not, I would have waited for more time. The point of online ordering is to place an order in advance. I've eaten up most of my lunch break waiting for an order I already waited for having placed it online. Great spot, great food, but the inefficiency just ruins it. I hope they can figure it out. read more

I was at this restaurant a few months ago and the service was excellent. For some reason I moved to another state and today I returned from vacation and decided to take my brother to eat here. The worst idea I had, I asked to speak to the manager to tell her that the bathroom was very dirty and the young lady was very rude, she ignored me. I thought she hadn't heard me but I think she didn't understand me so she sent the cashier to ask me what I needed. I was annoyed. She started talking to me in Spanish. Later I realized that she is rude even to the employees. We decided not to return. We spent almost 100 dollars and we had a bad experience, nothing like the service they had given me a few months ago. What a shame. I don't visit the OC often (even though its only 30 min away), but this was one of the stops we made when we were down here. I think this location just opened up. We came in here during a nice busy lunch hour. The person at the register was trying his best to keep up with the orders, churros and drinks. We ordered the Cali Burrito, pastor tacos, churros and asada tacos. Everything but the churros were a bit mediocre. The flavor is there, but just didn't hit the spot for me, but i'll give them a pass since it was like their second week of opening and they were trying to get everything out as fast as possible. We (customers) can be a bit selfish when it comes to expectations during a busy shift. Will probably try again when it cools down, but I wont ding them on this experience. The Taco Stand in Costa Mesa absolutely lives up to the hype. The food was incredible -- fresh, flavorful, and easily some of the best tacos in Orange County -- but what really made the experience stand out was our server, Arianna. She was genuinely warm, attentive, and made us feel welcomed from the moment we walked in. She knew the menu inside and out, gave excellent recommendations, and checked on us the perfect amount without ever being overbearing. Don't worry, the taco stand has the pinnacle of Baja style Mexican food that you crave, enjoy, and never forget. This is the place you recommend to your mother. Fresh, beautiful flavors, and the perfect salsa bar. If Lupita is working you're in good hands, she is the best. Perfect music playing all day sets the mood for the perfect lunch or dinner. I've been a loyal customer of this restaurant for nearly a decade, consistently bringing family, friends, and neighbors along. I even tip generously for to-go orders, which is not common. Unfortunately, my recent visit was a letdown. I ordered online in advance to save time, but ended up waiting over an hour past the promised pickup time. When I asked the staff for help, my concerns were brushed off, and the food that finally arrived was subpar. This is the most WONDERFUL taco place. You know it's going to be good when the line is always long and the service is more than fantastic. My order: one Al Pastor taco and one Carne Asada taco. I like to get chips and guac and NEVER. skimp on the mild salsa. It couldnt get better than this. The Orange County dream dare I say. The creme of the crop. Just amazing.
