Moving here from LA, and being from the Mexican part of Santa Rosa, I was aching for a good burrito. The Taco Stand fits the bill and for a pretty good price to be honest. It's just down the street and less than 15 bucks for a decent if small California burrito. It's a medium sized taqueria with a cute pink aesthetic. Admittedly there are slim pickings for meat choices, but their carne asada is I'd say decent, tender and mildly asada'd. The pastor is very red and very sweet, which I'm personally into but to a lesser degree. My partner had the fish taco at some point, and it was unremarkable but solid. The tortillas are actually pretty good, too. The service is objectively terrible. Which is actually an achievement for a counter-serve taqueria. First time I came after a long day at work, it took them 20 minutes to get through 4 parties' orders in front of me. Then the cashier/ general worker locked eyes with me and spent another 4 minutes dusting two churros to then walk out and give to someone in the dining room. Then for some reason the woman who I got my actual food from was dismissive of and didn't believe that I bought a bag of chips. I came for a burrito to leave in like 10 minutes, and spent 45 minutes total waiting getting progressively hangrier. Comparing this to higher volume, much higher quality, and much more... *Mexican* places in LA and SD, it's unacceptable. Subsequent visits have had me place online orders, walk past the line, flag down a line cook, and get out with my order in 30 seconds. And I've enjoyed munching on my (rather small) burrito at home each time since. I almost begrudgingly come here because I can't find any acceptable Mexican food within 10 minutes driving from my apartment. But it does hit the spot when I need it. read more

Holy moly. That was probably one of the best carne asada tacos I've had. The asada was super juicy, tender and cut in thick chunks. They did not skimp out on the meat or guac on the taco. It is a bit on the pricier side for a taco but the quality is definitely there. You can also add cheese to the taco (I believe it's an extra 0.99 cents for it) but it was pretty worth it. The cheese is melted onto the tortilla and not just sitting on top of the taco. I also tried the Sonora taco. I preferred the simplicity of the carne asada taco over the Sonora as there are more toppings such as beans and they used flour tortilla over corn for the Sonora. They have a salsa bar with a variety of delicious salsas you can try out! It was pretty crowded on a weekend during lunch (food came out pretty quickly considering) and parking was quite challenging but totally worth. read more

What a bummer... spent $50 to wait 20+ minutes for 6 cold tacos and a greasy burrito.The flavor was okay for cold meat, but probably would have been great while hot. My only gripe about this location is the parking and how small the dining area is, none of which are faults of The Taco Stands really but the food comes out hot and delicious just like the other locations. I will say the dining area feels pretty small, getting to the sauce bar is cramped and messy with everyone spilling everywhere so it's dirty there and usually the tables/bar seats. I don't think I've seen anyone clean tables like they do in Mission Viejo. I've got burritos and tacos here, all veryyyy good and fresh! No complaints on the food! As a San Diego native, Tacos El Gordo sits at the top of my list for the best street tacos. However, the taco stand has been a good fill-in when I can't get down to SD. Usually I go for the carne asada and al pastor tacos. The carne asada tacos has huge chunks of steak that is grilled welled and accompanied with a good guacamole. The al pastor is also seasoned well and paired with a green sauce that compliments it well. What I also appreciate that the taco stand is it's salsa bar, especially the chipotle sauce and the pickle red onions they offer. Be warned, this location is located in a busy area and shared a small parking lot with a bunch of other stores. I've often driven around the parking lot for 15 to 20 minutes just looking for a spot. read more

We love The Taco Stand and go to the one in Mission Viejo all the time. We went to the Costa Mesa location because we were closer. We ordered our usual, the California burrito and 2 asada tacos. When we got home to eat, the first thing I said: this burrito is way smaller than the one we get at the Mission Viejo location. I could tell right away it was smaller. The flavor was still there but the size was not the same. If we wouldn't have gotten the 2 tacos, we would still be hungry. The service was also not as great as the one in MV. Overall, we would skip this location and go to the one we know won't disappoint read more

One of my coworkers ordered the Al Pastor without cilantro and onion and they ended up also not putting pineapple on hers and mine. Disappointing. i've always heard great things about this place so i wanted to give it a try. one thing i noticed is that they have so many sauce options but there was a bit of a line at the station. i got the asada and it was decent but i feel lacked a bit of a smokey or flavorful taste that i've experienced at other taco places. i think the tacos are just okay. although, it's super busy and packed. we placed an order for pick up because of how packed it is on a saturday night. it's pretty bright and there's tables but a lot of people do grab and go as well. read more

Our neighbor introduced us to this spot over the weekend, and as someone Hispanic who's tried countless taco places, especially around Santa Ana--I can confidently say this is hands down the best taco spot in OC. The service was outstanding. The gentleman cleaning the tables truly deserves a raise, he was incredibly attentive to all the guests and even helped us find a place to sit. The tacos are perfectly portioned, and the asada was cooked to perfection. We also ordered the chips with guacamole (a full pound of chip) and they were absolutely delicious. They offer a great variety of salsas to suit every taste, which really elevates the whole experience. The interior is tight, and parking can be a challenge, but once you're inside, you're greeted with friendly staff and delicious food waiting They've got a full salsa bar with options ranging in heat and flavor. I tried each of their salsas and they all add to the food. I ordered the Mar y Tierra fries, an al pastor taco and an elote and honestly, the fries are the standout. For twelve bucks, you get a generous serving loaded with shrimp, steak, avocado, and fries that somehow stay crisp under all that weight. The shrimp had real flavor, the meat was seasoned well, and every bite hit. The only miss was the avocado, which looked a little brown and past its prime. Awesome taco stand in north Costa Mesa. It is similar to the other taco stands. I have only been to the one in San Diego. The food was amazing there but the location was crappy. This taco stand is right by the lab and the anti mall. Parking might be an issue during busy time but the food is amazing. I had the grilled fish burrito that was delish but likely next time I will stick to chicken or al Pastor. About a half dozen tables with room to sit for 20 people. Not much room outside in the parking lot. But you can take you food to the lab and sit at one of the outdoor seating areas. read more

Taco Stand started in the San Diego area and was inspired by the taco stands in Tijuana. They offer tacos, burritos, quesadillas, churros, and other extras. I was happy to see they had opened up a location at the Camp in Costa Mesa near my work, so I stopped by for a weekday lunch. The place was extremely busy and it was a little challenging to find a table. Mar y Tierra ($11.89) - This burrito was served with grilled shrimp and steak, melted cheese, cabbage, avocado, tomato and chipotle sauce. It was huge and would satisfy the hungriest of eaters. I loved the flavor profile of all the ingredients, although my only complaint would be that some of the steak pieces were slightly chewy. The salsa bar had some great salsas including my favorites: cilantro cream sauce and chipotle mayo sauce. Pollo asado taco ($3.99) - Served on small corn tortillas, this taco came with flame grilled chicken, cilantro, onions, guacamole and salsa. While I did enjoy it, it was street size, and I feel like the burritos here are better value. Churros ($4) - The churros here are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They are served with a sweetened dipping sauce made with condensed milk. I really enjoyed them and would definitely get them again when I'm craving something sweet. Overall, I was impressed with the food here, especially the burrito and salsa bar. read more

Service was fairly fast - came here on taco Tuesday and they made sure they were moving as fast as possible. Also, Ariana was taking my order and she's very friendly. This is easily one of my most favorite places for Mexican food in Orange County. They are San Diego style and they do a great job. It's always packed and the lot for parking is small, but it's worth it. I love their burritos and tacos with the shrimp and asada. Everything I've had here is delicious. This place was suggested to me by fellow Yelp elites so of course had to come check it out. The place was very busy during lunch and does take a little bit of time to order and get your food so order ahead if you're on a time crunch. I got 3 tacos to try and grabbed a bunch of their sauces and salsas to try. My favorite by far was the Al pastor. The meat was juicy with just enough sweetness to be the perfect flavor profile. My husband grabbed the California burrito and agreed that this spot is worth checking out. Will for sure be returning to check out more of their tacos. read more

Let me start by saying that I was kind of hesitant to go to the spot given the fact that the tacos are a little bit more expensive than some of the tacos I've had locally around LA that are literally super cheap and super good. We got two cokes and a total of five tacos and it was a total of $30 which is kind of up there. However, I will give the restaurant that these tacos were actually surprisingly very good. The nopal taco was probably my favorite, which I did not expect followed by the shrimp. The Asada taco quite frankly for me the meat was just cut a little too big. It was hard to eat it because it was kind of chunky. Normally when you have Asada tacos, the meat is cut thinly and in smaller pieces. Which I prefer tbh. Service was OK. I will say the place is packed and it took us about 10 to 15 minutes to get a table. I think the spot in general has a really cute vibe to it. It kind of feels a little like you're at a shop in Mexico, because of their decoration and their paintings on the wall. I will definitely visit again! read more
