The Tahoe Tradesman crew did a really fantastic and quick job of replacing our large redwood deck with TimberTech advanced PVC decking, which is meant to be fire resistant. It was about $5k more than redoing with original redwood, but since it doesn't need sanding or staining every few years because it's completely waterproof (in fact rain drops take several hours to dry out), it should pay for itself in 4-5 years. This was the first TimberTech deck they installed, so we were somewhat hesitant at first, but are happy with our decision so far. We chose cypress color (slightly reddish brown) instead of the darker brown of our siding because the darker sample got too hot in the sun, while cypress was similar to the real redwood. Of note, the plank length is slightly different than standard, so extra joists needed installing, which Chris didn't catch when he sent the quote, but kindly gave us free labor for that extra work (we just had to pay for the extra joists). They completed the job in 4 days (would have been 3 if it hadn't been for those extra joists). Very pleased with their work! read more

I called around for help, based on the reviews and the fact that The Tahoe Tradesman were highly rated and licensed electricians, we decided to go with them. They came out and gave me an estimate and then a couple of weeks later scheduled for the work. Chris was excellent! Great communication too! He is very knowledgeable and a skilled electrician that fixed the issues we had on the first visit and although he ordered the incorrect parts for the broken drawer, he quickly had them replaced and rescheduled for a second visit which he finished in a very timely manner. The final bill was less than what I thought it would be. We highly recommend and we are definitely going to use them again for future projects. read more

I unfortunately have an experience that mirrors Lisa B's experience. I hired The Tahoe Tradesman (TTT) to fix a hole in my deck and to stain the rails of my deck. The deck repair went well. It was efficient. Faster than estimate. Although I cannot tell exactly what I got charged. Next project was to stain. Unfortunately during the week of staining we had afternoon rains that delayed the project. Everything was scheduled to begin June 26th. Staining started June 1st. I was told according to estimate it would take 9 hours and 3 gallons to stain to do two coats. I have a small deck above garage and some reason was not considered decking in the original estimate. I was told maybe if they had time they would complete. I had friends staying at house all week. I arrived July 4th. When I arrived the deck project was only about 30% complete. Only one gallon of stain was used. Like Lisa I started to question Chris about what was going on and was immediately met with rudeness. I was blamed for all sorts of things and accused of being a "red flag". He laughably claims I gave him no access to house. No access to an outdoor deck!!!! TTT worked July 1st and 2nd. However they only worked 6.75 hours. Estimate for full job was 9 hours. They did not even complete first coat. So at the their pace the staining was going to take over 20 hours!!! A small strap and small blockage from BBQ caused stainer to completely stop project all together. They could have completed a lot more and left the covered areas for me. They were 2-3% of total project. So when I questioned TTT about why so little was done and why only 6.75 hours were completed in two days I was met with immediate distain. The owner falsely accused me of accusing his worker of stealing. Stealing?!?!!?. Stealing what? And he promptly cancelled the balance of the project and sent me an invoice for about $1100. I offered to try to come up with an amicable solution and his immediate response was to threaten to charge me interest and eventually refer me to a collection agency. I offered to pay for the deck repair and to dispute the incomplete staining later. He then revised his invoice down to $955 and insisted the staining job was complete. Was he attempting to overcharge me at $1100? But according to his time log the deck repair was about 1.5 hours. That means the staining was about 7 hours and supplies somehow $100. So at $1100 I was definitely being overcharged. But the staining job was not even close to half done. One big warning with TTT is he claims that when you sign the estimate you are signing a contract. And he calls it time and materials contract. He can charge anything for materials and not show any receipts. And the time part of contract stipulates apparently that he can time out or cancel any project at any time. Not exactly a customer friendly policy. Because of rain I told the stainer to take his time and just get it done but apparently the owner is more than willing to cancel overdue projects in order to start new projects on schedule. His contract is for his benefit not the customer. I have given many chances to compromise and make things right. Every time I am met with the same threat of interest charged and collection agency. All while insisting the staining job was "complete". Despite the fact that a tarp and toxic bucket full of used rags were left in the front of my house next to the steps. Never attempted to pick up. I have given Chris over a week to try to make things right but have to write this review. I have all the emails to prove everything I said here. Unfortunately. Chris will still not allow me to pay for completed job (repairing deck). but insists that I pay for 7 hours of staining and completing only 50% first coat and not attempting 2nd coat stipulated in estimate. Estimate was for 2 coats in 9 hours with 3 gallons. He only used one gallon before quitting and leaving supplies in yard. And wants to charge $100 for screws and single use stain supplies (rags and sponge brush). Now continuing to threaten to charge interest of 10% compounded over time then collection agency. My experience was great -- until we had a difference of opinion. Then I was met with rudeness, judgment, and intransigence. They walked off the job, leaving me with the need to take on the expense of another handyman to finish it. Plus, they insisted on charging me for the disputed work and sent me to a collection agency for it. Great experience with Chris from The Tahoe Tradesman! Chris helped me with a couple of chores that I just couldn't do on my own. He installed a couple of wired Nest CO detectors (including one at the top of a vaulted ceiling), and installed an electrical heater cable on a p-trap that kept freezing solid.
