Tamales were good and pretty big. The masa was moist and wasn't too salty. Maybe could've used less masa but it wasn't bad. The filling was carnitas and it was seasoned just right. I'd say if you're craving tamales outside of the holidays (Christmas tradition for us to have) this place is a decent alternative.

The Tamale Factory will never let you down. Steaming pots of tamales always ready for a quick pick up. The staff is very attentive and quick. Prices have gone up but just know they haven't cut back on ingredients. The draw back...the BART construction traffic you'll encounter on Story & Capitol. Alum Rock, south to White or Tully, north to White are better options. Enjoy your tamales-

Lousy service! Went there to pick up order for a friend's memorial. Everything was ordered and paid for in advance; 6 dozens of tamales with 2- 32 oz containers of sauce/ salsa for $328. For whatever reason the 2 people working there knew nothing about the order and did not know how to confirm it even after calling a supposed manager. They had me waiting over 30 minutes while they helped different customers coming in making purchases. In between other customers they slowly prepared my order. This was extremely irritating as I had to drive 1 hour to deliver the tamales on time. Mind you I speak Spanish. On a positive note I tasted a pork tamale which was not only thick, but delicious. They keep their front door open with saran wrap.

Seems like it can be difficult to find good tamale places open for earlier lunch, so it was grand to stumble across The Tamale Factory. There's plenty of parking in the strip mall lot. There also weren't any other patrons present when I stepped inside the little shop. Tamales are $3.50 each or $42/dozen for pork, chicken, sweet, and jalapeno. Corn tamales are $4 each. Chile rellenos tamales are $4.25 each. Menudo is available on weekends for $13 for a 32oz cup. Salsa and sour cream costs extra at $4/small, $5.50/medium, $9/large containers. I ordered a dozen pork, chicken, and corn tamales to-go. The lady helping me scooped them out of the huge, steaming steel vats behind the counter. I liked the green pork tamales the best of the 3 I tried. It was the most flavorful, followed by the sweet corn tamales. The chicken tamales didn't seem cooked all the way. At least, the masa (corn flour) was wet and not completely steamed through. I ended up throwing them in the microwave for a few minutes to solidify them up. Not a bad place overall to grab tamales. I recommend the pork and corn ones. They are pricey, but it seems like everything has gotten pricier lately unfortunately.

How much are a dozen tamales?

Are the green chile and cheese tamales vegetarian (no lard?)?

They use lard; very tasty. No vegan options accept thier chili relleno.

Is the masa for all tamales made with lard?

Do you sell masa fresca by the pound?

    I believe they do?

    Do they have vegan tamales?

    Unfortunately they do not.

Hello! I have a board meeting I'm hosting Thursday evening and I need about 2 dz pork tamales and 1 dozen Jalepeno cheese, do I need to call in advance to make this order? Thank you in advance!

Not necessarily. Tamales is pretty much all they do there and that doesn't seem like an inordinately large order; I would imagine they should be able to fill that no sweat. However, with that said, it might not be a bad idea to call ahead and…

How many tamales can I pick up in store before having to place an order?

I know they told me 3 dozen didn't require an order. I think it's 5+

How far in advanced should orders be placed?

If it's for Christmas I would do now. They told me anything under 3 doz they take orders. So I just showed up

Do u have any vegetarian options I know some paces use lard?

Our only vegetarian option is currently the corn and sweet tamale. We do use lard in our jalapeño and cheese tamales.

Do they have elote as in corn on the cob with mayonnaise and queso?

We do not, our corn elote is in a husk as well, just like our other tamales. We do however offer green salsa, red salsa and sour cream for you, if you’d like to drizzle that on your tamale.

I had the carne asada burrito, it was good but nothing over the top that made it stand out. My friend had enchiladas with mole. We were most excited about dessert and decided to share the churros and Tres leches. It was a nice touch that the churros and Tres leches did not come plain, a little pizzazz since they were both served with berries, whipped cream, and a cajeta style sauce. We waited 1.5 hours to be seated while half the restaurant sat empty. After we were seated, it took about 30 minutes for anyone to ask if we wanted drinks, another 30 minutes before our order was taken, and then an hour for the food to arrive. Throughout the wait, several servers were gathered in the corner talking and laughing while tables--including ours--were left unattended. Unfortunately, the food didn't make up for the service. The meat was dry, lacked flavor, and the shrimp was so chewy that I couldn't finish it. It was honestly one of the worst shrimp dishes I've ever been served. I've seen countless influencers giving this place glowing reviews, and after eating here, I simply don't believe them. My experience was the complete opposite. If you appreciate good food and good service, I would strongly recommend spending your money somewhere else.

The staff were attentive, gave great menu recommendations, and constantly came by to refill our water. Very spacious dining room. We started with the Queso Fundido, served on a small hot plate with chilis, garlic, and oil on top. It's basically a block of cheese served with chips. Even with the hot plate, it didn't stay gooey for long, but it was a pretty good starter. The Coconut Campachano was creamy and refreshing. My wife is Latina, so we're pretty familiar with authentic Latin/Mexican flavors, and from the moment we walked in, we were a little unsure of what to expect. We completely understand we're in Willow Glen and that Copita is going for a more upscale take, but for us, authenticity and flavor still have to be at the heart of the experience. Our waitress was very friendly and polite, and this review is absolutely not a reflection of her service. However, when we asked about the style of the food, there seemed to be a little hesitation in explaining it, which made us even more uncertain about what we had gotten ourselves into. I don't like bashing restaurants or their food, so I'll simply say that, unfortunately, the highlight of our meal was the chips and salsa. The cocktails, on the other hand, were good and definitely not shy on the alcohol! Also, don't expect large portions. The restaurant is clearly aiming for a more upscale presentation and experience, so the plates reflect that. Overall, Copita just wasn't for us. This was our first visit and unfortunately will probably be our last. I genuinely wish them success, but I think a few changes, especially when it comes to the flavors and authenticity of the food could make a big difference.
