Cool as a Cucumber Oaxacan Skies

Exceptional service and an amazing Friday lunch experience! Even though the place was buzzing, we were seated quickly. We ordered the deliciously filling breakfast bowl and swapped the eggs for rice. The banana chocolate smoothie was rich, refreshing, and honestly was my dessert. We also tried the sweet potato waffle, the steak bowl, and 2 cocktails: the Cool as a Cucumber and the Blue Oaxacan Skies. Every single item hit the mark Left full as a tick! If you're looking for a spot that delivers great food, great drinks, and great vibes, you found it!! Can't wait to come back!

We drove to San Jose to try Luna Mexican Kitchen, and it was well worth the drive. The restaurant has plenty of tables available inside, outside, and under the covered patio. The food is authentic, healthy, and delicious. We started with the Fruta con Chile, which was perfectly soaked in chile and lemon. My skirt steak was great, and my wife loved her chicken bowl. Along with the fantastic food, the service was excellent. The Mexican music playing in the background took the entire experience over the top for me.

I finally made it to LUNA on the Alameda for lunch today. I've been to the Pruneyard location several times, but have wanted to try this one for a while. It was busy at noon on a Saturday, but fortunately they have a large tented outdoor dining area, in addition to the regular indoor restaurant, to accommodate everyone. I was almost immediately seated and given water and chips and two types of salsa. Both were too spicy for me, but the chips tasted good. I ordered the steak salad, which is what I've had every time I've dined at the Pruneyard location. It was very good, although the steak portion was teeny tiny. That was disappointing. But the greens were fresh and delicious and I loved the fresh avocado and roasted corn on top. Even the salad dressing was perfection. A few random notes: My waiter was running around like crazy trying to help all of the diners at his tables, but still came by and checked on me a couple times. The restaurant is LOUD despite being outside. They allow dogs on leashes outside. The dedicated parking lot is small, but I was able to find a spot. I didn't notice much of a difference between the two locations other than the small size of the steak at the Alameda restaurant. I would go back to either location.

Pros: - Pricing is good for the amount of food that is given. - Great for sharing - Chips w/salsa - Ceviche was delicious Cons: - Service was very slow, even though the restaurant started to clear out. - Everything was dirty. Our cups especially. They mentioned they are running out of cups, but that isn't an excuse to give out water to the table with every cup being stained with Tajin. - Everything on the sharing grill was a bit bland. - Restrooms are terrible. There are only two single stalls and the line to wait is in the way of the workers, so we had to move back and forth to let them through.

We visit Luna often because the Mexican food is consistently fresh and delicious! Our absolute "must-order" is the lamb barbacoa paired with a side of queso flameado. The barbacoa is a generous portion served with beans and pickled vegetables--we love adding the queso right on top for the perfect bite. Another standout is the Camote (charred sweet potato), which is excellent. While we've explored other menu items like the New Quesadilla Fritas, Carnitas Burrito, and Steak Bowl--all of which were good--nothing quite beats the lamb barbacoa in my opinion!

Delicious!!!! Not a big restaurant, and it is street parking. I recommend coming when it's not busy lol Food was fresh. Quality ingredients. Server was on point. Everyone was enjoying. Will come again.

If you are looking for date nights, or for casual dinners, this place works in both cases. We were served chips and salsa to begin with, the chips were slightly too oily for my preference but otherwise great. We started with the horchata, which was probably not the best horchata, but still not too terrible either. We ordered the Enchiladas Suizas and Mole poblano con pollo. The enchiladas were delicious, and the quantity did not disappoint either when I compare to some other mexican places in the similar price point. The chicken in the Mole poblano was a little dry, but shoutout to our server Ray, who replaced it for us. We then went with the Lamb Barbacoa which was terrific, it was juicy, tender and buttery. The server was very nice and patient with all the questions we had on the menu. Would definitely visit the place again. Note: Seems like there is a long wait time during the weekends, so I would advice on getting on the wait list early. Parking can be tricky as there was not much around, and you have to either do a couple of rounds around the block, or go in the residential lanes to find one.

This hit the spot for a neighborhood Mexican restaurant! The restaurant itself is small but has an extended patio space. It's quaint and unassuming but the food was great! We ordered elote, enchiladas rojas and pork chile verde, and chips were complementary. The chips were thick, which I like, and I thought the entree serving sizes were decent. I loved the fresh tortillas and the verde sauce was flavorful! I probably could've used a little extra pork for my third tortilla. Service was standard. Our waitress was friendly and food came out relatively fast; we didn't quite feel like we were getting pushed out but it was maybe a little quicker than anticipated for a Saturday date night, but there was also a wait when we left. Would definitely come back!

Maybe it was because I was with someone amazing, but it was an amazing experience. We were well taken care of the moment we sat down. Wait staff was awesome, and consistently came by to make sure things were good and waters were filled. We sat outdoors in the "patio" setup but no complaints. Even though it was a chilly winter morning, we were very comfy. They have the space covered and multiple heaters. As someone that likes being toasty more than cold, I was more than happy in the space. They had a number of options I wanted to try, and I'll definitely be back to make sure I try them. We came during the morning, expanding the choices to breakfast options. I got the steak and eggs option, and enjoyed everything on my plate. The meat was cooked to the temp I requested, as well as the eggs being cooked to preference. The meat was good, and wasn't tough at all. The beans were good. The nopal was also good; personally, I enjoy it when the nopal isn't too bitter/sour, so this was good for me. Texture was good as well. Really can't say anything bad about the main. We also got the tacos dorados to share, and they were good. They're also an eye catcher, as people looked over to see what it was. Hot chocolate was good, but do be careful as it is hot. Cute cups too. Great time, and I'll be back. My wonderful companion had chorizo, and they made remarks about their enjoyment as well.

Luna never misses. Ray the bartender is the real deal -- great drinks, great attitude, and the whole team brought the best vibes. Awesome dinner and even better energy. Mention this review for extra smiles n delightful service.

We ordered the churos and the burrito, the food was next level and the service was very fast! Highly recommend for good mexican food!

My partner and I haven't been to Luna in a while and decided to have some lunch here. We haven't officially sat in every seating area that they have. They have plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. If you are outdoor they do have heating. Today we sat at a table near the bar and their bar is first come first serve. Our waiter was attentive to us and food came out promptly. They were able to answer my questions and recommended items off the menu. Overall the food is good, nothing spectacular but definitely a good solid meal.

Oh my gosh, 10/10. AMAZING menu/food, AMAZING service, AMAZING cocktails. Literally obsessed. It's hard to find a restaurant that is consistent in food and service. Shout out to Rudy and Ivan. EVERYTHING was equally delicious. We enjoyed the following items: - Quesadilla - Ceviche de camaron - Elote (off the cob) - Diablo Lobster Enchiladas - Mixed Grill Cocktails: Carajillo, Paloma, Lolita Desserts: Choco Flan, Churros, Bread pudding All items were well thought out and well balanced. Not too salty, not too sweet. Just perfect. I will be back!!

We have tickets to see Wicked and need a place close to the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts. We love Mexican food and Luna looks great. If we were there around 4:30 on a Sunday afternoon, would we be able to leave by 5:45 to get to the show?

They had some Fanime specials for the con (katsu and egg salad sandwiches, spam musubi), seasonal drinks, of course coffees and teas, and non caffeinated drinks, as well as some food too (heated up pastries, both sweet and savory). There's a restroom with a code and a couple seats and tables with outlets to charge your devices. Service was welcoming and efficient especially after the crowds started to pick up. I got the: 1) Egg Salad Sando: -You can tell these were handmade in store. They had cute washi tape to hold the packaging together. -Solid egg salad sandwich. Slightly sweet white bread and generous amount of egg salad inside the sandwich. Creamy mayo taste that isn't too sour or tart, lots of egg in it. Perfect for an anime con next door. 2) Cappuccino: -I got this no sugar and sugar free and it came out with some pretty latte art. I thought it was mostly ok and boyfriend thought so too, but after several sips and when it was too late since we really had to get to the con, it just became too disgustingly sweet for him and he had to throw it away. 3) Yuzu Fresh Fruit Sparkler: -Yuzu puree with sparkling soda water. -Refreshing and not bad, but even after mixing this was a bit sweeter than what I would have liked and again, in our rush to leave, we couldn't really get this adjusted. I ended up pouring most of it in a water bottle to enjoy later and put in my bag. But ended up not finishing it in the end. Maybe next year I'll try again or just stick to the food stuffs.

When walking, we missed the restaurant initially because this place is clearly, a hidden gem, especially being hidden along the nightclub strip. We were blown away by the curated vibes. From the thoughtful decor to The Office being projected on the wall. It felt hip, fresh and refined. We decided to craft our own drinks - Arnold Palmers, his favorite. But they only had sparkling lemonade, which actually made it even better. We shared a salad that had some cooked pears and squash alongside the greens, walnuts, cranberries and blue cheese. I do feel like the cooked sweet elements overpowered the salad with their sweetness and textures a bit. Wondering if a refreshing pear for crunch or more dressing could have brightened it up and provided a salty, sweet balance. I ordered the Short Ribs with a parsnip purée and roasted carrots and it did not disappoint. Everything paired beautifully together, perfectly salted and cooked. I finished the entire plate. Dad got the Pork Chop and while it was overcooked, he loved the flavors happening in the dish and was pleasantly surprised by the refreshing treatment of the kale. The staff was attentive and very friendly. Overall a great experience. We would definitely come back!

This is one of the breakfast places in Downtown San Jose that you do NOT want to miss!…read more I stumbled upon this place after the Yelp app recommended me to try -- so you know I had to give it a try. Upon entering, I loved how spacious the place was, especially with the variety of foods they had: egg sandwiches, matcha lattes, coffee, and lots more. I was fortunate enough to try their egg drop in a jar alongside bacon and cheese, and their matcha latte. Both were very delicious and had a very natural taste to them :) They had self-order kiosks but at the same time, their hospitality and customer service was on par. They were very accommodating with regards to dietary restrictions (especially when it came to the milk selections for lattes, matcha was no different). I will definitely be coming back to this place to try more! (Hint hint: I may also try their other location as well -- that to.be saved for another time)

Hey there party People…read more Decided to venture into Willow Glen today on the hunt for something new to try. Boy howdy did we hit the Mother Load with "The Table". We hit the Brunch hour and the place was rocking. We were able to sit right down amazingly. There is a fabulous patio to people watch and enjoy the California weather. Our server Charles was really great. He walked us through the menu giving us the 911 on watch to order. Most of the plates were perfect shareable bites. Making it easy to try multiple plates and really get your inner Foodie on. We started with the Seasonal Banana Pancakes with crushed walnuts and cinnamon maple syrup. Inside the pancakes were fresh bananas and the walnuts were crushed very small but added a great texture. Moving on to the Chicago Steak sandwich don't get confused but in Chicago they refer to Roast Beef as steak. The Au Jus dip was very flavorful without being a salt bomb. Loved the potato roll they used all round a killer sandwich. Going a little outside the box we tried the Jerk Chicken Sandwich. The pineapple slaw with this amazing peppery chutney type sauce played so well with the acid of the pineapple. Another must have sandwich. I ask you how can you go to a new restaurant and not have some dessert. With everything else being so good our expectations were pretty high and we were not disappointed. The Giant Profiterole is exactly that GIANT and stuffed with White Chocolate Gelato and Hot Chocolate Sauce that you can drizzle over the top. To fricken die for good. If you are in Willow Glen and you don't stop here you are missing out on something wonderful. Be kind to one another

When we were seated, we were given a list of items that were not available. I originally wanted to try the pancakes but ended up ordering the chicken sandwich instead. This was genuinely one of the worst chicken sandwiches I have ever had. It was extremely gristly, fatty, and made with dark meat, which felt like an odd choice for a chicken sandwich. I'm not sure why this cut of chicken was used. The fries were alright, but they did not come with the sandwich and cost an additional $5. Our total came to almost $90 for three entrees with no beverages. I was especially frustrated because my sandwich was inedible. For the price and quality, I will not be returning and would not recommend this place.
