This is how you know it's good!

You know when you walk into a place, and you see an old lady making tortillas by hand, and putting them on a griddle, and making them fresh, it's going to be a great meal. I get a pit in my stomach just thinking about those fresh tortillas. I was here with some co-workers at the recommendation of a Sacramentoan who was familiar, and he won the prize for picking the best place of the trip. The plan was to get some appetizers then order a meal... but the appetizers were so good, that we just got more of those. The bacon wrapped shrimp were so good. Bacon and shrimp go together like bacon and eggs, bacon and turkey, bacon and LT, bacon and scallops, bacon and bacon, bacon and cottage cheese (try it before you judge), bacon and bloody Mary's, and bacon and chocolate. Where was I, oh yea, that appetizer... the shrimps stood up on their own but the red tomatoey sauce it came with was amazing! We also filled up on the chips and poblano sauce and the hearty quesadilla. And the classic margarita was fresh and simple and just right... the baby bear in my adult version of Goldilocks. Service was awesome with the bartender making delicious drinks and the waiter taking care of us by bringing more shrimp and even more shrimp! I'd go back if someone else was driving (parking wasn't the easiest). Cinco Starros

Always LOVE this place! We go here often and they never disappoint! Neighborhood gem with excellent service, a great vibe, and the most delicious food! Was craving the ENCHILADAS SUIZAS [Mary's free-range chicken enchiladas, jack cheese, crema, tomatillo salsa, with arroz rojo and refried beans topped with queso fresco] And it was still very yummy! Love everything about it! * Note: parking is a challenge so be patient... once you've settled yourself in you will know it was well worth it. Would I go back? YES!! Always :)

Luna Mexican Kitchen continues to impress with its commitment to fresh ingredients, bold flavors, and beautifully prepared dishes. This visit, I ordered the meat platter, and it was an absolute standout. The platter arrived loaded with a generous variety of perfectly cooked meats, each with its own distinct flavor and texture. Every bite was tender, juicy, and well-seasoned without being overpowering. Paired with fresh handmade tortillas, flavorful rice, creamy beans, and an assortment of house-made salsas, it was the kind of meal that encouraged mixing and matching different combinations throughout the meal. The quality of the ingredients really shines here. Nothing felt heavy or overly greasy, and every component tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The portions were generous enough to share, but the flavors made it tempting to keep the whole platter to myself. Service was attentive, friendly, and efficient despite the restaurant's lively atmosphere. The staff checked in regularly, kept drinks topped off, and made the entire experience feel welcoming.

This restaurant has a great atmosphere, making it a wonderful spot for date night, a girls' luncheon, or a group dinner. They offer plenty of seating in three areas: indoors, a semi-enclosed patio, and a covered open-air patio. The first time my husband and I dined here, the weather was quite hot, so we sat inside and had a nice experience. Our server was very friendly. He brought out plenty of chips and salsa, with eventually a refill (or two). The chips were so delicious, and their two sauces were addicting. The green sauce can be quite spicy depending on the batch of chiles they use. I started with a Paloma, which was served in a terracotta mug. It was slightly sweet and tangy, just the way I like my cocktails. For our main, we shared the Mixed Grill (chico) for two. The combination of meats and vegetables was tender but not seasoned. We used their wonderful sauces as the condiment for the dish. Their house-made corn tortillas were soft and held their shape when folded. My most recent visit was with a group of four girlfriends for a weekday lunch. We arrived at 11:00 a.m. and had just about every seat available to us. We decided to sit in the semi-enclosed patio, which was lovely since the weather was mildly warm. The only downside to this area was the curious flies. The overhead fans weren't enough to keep them at bay. Two of the ladies ordered the Chile Verde. It had big chunks of tender pork, but this time it was a little too tangy and lacked any spiciness. By the time we finished, the restaurant was almost completely full. It was a good time to leave, as it was getting quite loud. I'd love to come back and try more items on their menu.

I've been wanting to try more Mexican food and stumbled across LUNA. The outside patio seating was pleasant and perfect weather during my visit. As I entered the restaurant there was the aroma of fresh tortillas being made. Upon sitting down I was presented with fresh homemade corn tortilla chips along with two salsas (mild and medium) Tortilla chips were thick with just the right amount of crunch. Tasting the green (mild?) salsa was my favorite. It had a great tomatillo flavor with a creamy spiciness. It was a good reprieve from my main dish. A Paloma was my drink of choice this time. I'll preface this by saying I'm not a fan of tequila but when presented with the cold clay mug rimmed with salt and topped with orange and grapefruit, I was impressed. It was delicious, so refreshing, fragrant, and cold! A nice counterbalance to my meal. Chilaquiles was a dish I wanted to try. They had delicious chips again cooked in salsa verde. Covered with eggs (any style) fresh crema, avocado, and onions the chilaquiles exceeded my expectations. So simple yet so flavorful. Mixing up quantities of ingredients in each bite made for a delicious experience. My favorite element being the sharpness of the onions which cut the richness of the dish. I'm generally not a fan of refried beans but these ones had such a unique and satisfying flavor which complimented the dish well. My server, Luis was very helpful and quick to check in and make sure I was doing okay! I cannot wait to try out their fish tacos and various drinks from the menus next time!

Landed at SJC and headed straight to this Bib Gourmand resto before my first meeting of the day. Loved the warm and inviting space with its charming banquettes, wrought iron chairs, and rustic wood tables, and couldn't have asked for more accommodating service as staff graciously allowed me to order from the lunch menu even though it was still breakfast time. The gluten-free Steak Salad (a quarter pound of all-natural hormone-free grilled skirt steak, organic mixed greens, roasted corn, avocado, cherry tomatoes, Point Reyes blue cheese, balsamic vinaigrette) hit my macros beautifully and was a joy to both my eyes and my stomach, while the complimentary housemade tortilla chips and salsa utterly destroyed said macros but were totally worth the sacrifice. :D

We drove to San Jose to try Luna Mexican Kitchen, and it was well worth the drive. The restaurant has plenty of tables available inside, outside, and under the covered patio. The food is authentic, healthy, and delicious. We started with the Fruta con Chile, which was perfectly soaked in chile and lemon. My skirt steak was great, and my wife loved her chicken bowl. Along with the fantastic food, the service was excellent. The Mexican music playing in the background took the entire experience over the top for me.

I finally made it to LUNA on the Alameda for lunch today. I've been to the Pruneyard location several times, but have wanted to try this one for a while. It was busy at noon on a Saturday, but fortunately they have a large tented outdoor dining area, in addition to the regular indoor restaurant, to accommodate everyone. I was almost immediately seated and given water and chips and two types of salsa. Both were too spicy for me, but the chips tasted good. I ordered the steak salad, which is what I've had every time I've dined at the Pruneyard location. It was very good, although the steak portion was teeny tiny. That was disappointing. But the greens were fresh and delicious and I loved the fresh avocado and roasted corn on top. Even the salad dressing was perfection. A few random notes: My waiter was running around like crazy trying to help all of the diners at his tables, but still came by and checked on me a couple times. The restaurant is LOUD despite being outside. They allow dogs on leashes outside. The dedicated parking lot is small, but I was able to find a spot. I didn't notice much of a difference between the two locations other than the small size of the steak at the Alameda restaurant. I would go back to either location.

Pros: - Pricing is good for the amount of food that is given. - Great for sharing - Chips w/salsa - Ceviche was delicious Cons: - Service was very slow, even though the restaurant started to clear out. - Everything was dirty. Our cups especially. They mentioned they are running out of cups, but that isn't an excuse to give out water to the table with every cup being stained with Tajin. - Everything on the sharing grill was a bit bland. - Restrooms are terrible. There are only two single stalls and the line to wait is in the way of the workers, so we had to move back and forth to let them through.

We visit Luna often because the Mexican food is consistently fresh and delicious! Our absolute "must-order" is the lamb barbacoa paired with a side of queso flameado. The barbacoa is a generous portion served with beans and pickled vegetables--we love adding the queso right on top for the perfect bite. Another standout is the Camote (charred sweet potato), which is excellent. While we've explored other menu items like the New Quesadilla Fritas, Carnitas Burrito, and Steak Bowl--all of which were good--nothing quite beats the lamb barbacoa in my opinion!

Delicious!!!! Not a big restaurant, and it is street parking. I recommend coming when it's not busy lol Food was fresh. Quality ingredients. Server was on point. Everyone was enjoying. Will come again.

    Mole poblano enchilada

We decided last minute to come get a bite to eat after my daughter's birthday party. I don't usually have such high expectations when I go out to eat anymore because i don't want to be disappointed I will start off by saying as soon as we showed up at the host stand , a young woman approached us to ask how many was in our party and showed us almost immediately to the only table inside that kidy cornered right next to the bar , the seating sucked but we were so hungry && didn't want to sit outside in the cold with my young child so we sucked it up . There was a drunk guy at the bar and I was afraid he was gonna back into my sister since their backs were so close but they didn't thank god && it worked out. But I defiantly was keeping an eye out just in case But the server was very attentive , and the food was sooo goood. Everything was 10/10 . We had the mole enchiladas , the shrimp ceviche , elotes and my sis had a modelo negro Michelada . We left so fulfilled and it was a great decision. The server brought out my babies food fast && that I really liked cuz she was so hungry . It was a $120 well spent . It was kind of pricey for sharing a dish && getting 2 appetizers but it was worth it . Will def be back !!!!

    Horchata
    Amanpreet S.

If you are looking for date nights, or for casual dinners, this place works in both cases. We were served chips and salsa to begin with, the chips were slightly too oily for my preference but otherwise great. We started with the horchata, which was probably not the best horchata, but still not too terrible either. We ordered the Enchiladas Suizas and Mole poblano con pollo. The enchiladas were delicious, and the quantity did not disappoint either when I compare to some other mexican places in the similar price point. The chicken in the Mole poblano was a little dry, but shoutout to our server Ray, who replaced it for us. We then went with the Lamb Barbacoa which was terrific, it was juicy, tender and buttery. The server was very nice and patient with all the questions we had on the menu. Would definitely visit the place again. Note: Seems like there is a long wait time during the weekends, so I would advice on getting on the wait list early. Parking can be tricky as there was not much around, and you have to either do a couple of rounds around the block, or go in the residential lanes to find one.

They don't have any happy hour

    Celiac disease friendly?

the menu is labeled well with allergens and they do have various gluten free options.

Is there a wait for outdoor seating during the weekday around lunchtime? I am planning to go with a small group of people from work. Thanks!

Yes there is a wait for outdoor and indoor seating. It gets pretty pack so I would recommend going early just incase.

Do you have covered outdoor dining with heaters during December?

Yes, we have covered outdoor dining, with some heaters.

Do y'all have happy hour? If so, when are your hours?

    No happy hour

    Do they have live marriachi?

    Yes every morning

Are dogs still allowed on the patio during covid times?

Yes. I have seen people with dogs while I was there.

What kind of cooking oil is used?

    Manteca

Are you reopen for indoor dining?

Yes! They are back open for indoor dining (covid compliant of course)

    Is the patio dog friendly?

    Yes it is.

What time does breakfast end on Sundays?

    Breakfast is 9-3pm everyday!

If a party of two decides to take a chance without a reservation on a Friday evening, what is a typical wait time?

I don't think you would wait longer than 15 to 20 minutes. I have showed up as a party of two several times without a reservation and actually walked in twice even though they said they were booked. There is also bar seating that is first come…

We have tickets to see Wicked and need a place close to the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts. We love Mexican food and Luna looks great. If we were there around 4:30 on a Sunday afternoon, would we be able to leave by 5:45 to get to the show?

If you have reservations , otherwise , expect to wait 20-30 minutes to be seated plus extra time to order , eat, n go.

    Can I cancel a reservation?

    Absolutely.

    Is there a kids menu?

    Yes

    Is there private parking lot?

Yes, but it is kinda small. There is plenty of other parking nearby though on the street.

Yes. We love our furry friends! We have a front patio.

What time and days do they do happy hour?

Hi Analilia, we do not have a happy hour.

Can Luna accommodate a party of 12?

Yes! However, due to our intimate size, our ability to serve large parties is a bit limited. To request a large party reservation, please visit our website at www.lunamexicankitchen.com and view our Reservations tab.

What is a good time to go? Can we do reservations?

My daughter made reservations on line through open table and it required a credit card to hold it. The table was for 6 people and she was told that if we were a no-show she would be charged $25 per person. I'm not sure if it works the same if you…

Slightly sweet white bread and generous amount of egg salad inside the sandwich. Creamy mayo taste that isn't too sour or tart, lots of egg in it. Perfect for an anime con next door. 2) Cappuccino: -I got this no sugar and sugar free and it came out with some pretty latte art. I thought it was mostly ok and boyfriend thought so too, but after several sips and when it was too late since we really had to get to the con, it just became too disgustingly sweet for him and he had to throw it away. 3) Yuzu Fresh Fruit Sparkler: -Yuzu puree with sparkling soda water. -Refreshing and not bad, but even after mixing this was a bit sweeter than what I would have liked and again, in our rush to leave, we couldn't really get this adjusted. I ended up pouring most of it in a water bottle to enjoy later and put in my bag. But ended up not finishing it in the end. Maybe next year I'll try again or just stick to the food stuffs.

Ambience kind of reminds me of an open tavern, but more... modernized and simplified I guess? Anyways- I work at a doggy daycare and the Vietnamese coffee here hits all the points for me: smooth, creamy, delicious, and TURNS ME INTO AN EVEN BIGGER ENERGIZER BUNNY THAN SOME OF THE DOGS I WORK WITH. Love love love!!

The…read moreplace has a chill, cozy feel , nothing over the top, just a nice spot to sit and eat without feeling rushed. I tried one of their signature sandos and it was really solid. The bread was soft and fresh, and everything inside tasted balanced rather than heavy or greasy. It's simple food, but done properly, which makes a big difference. Coffee was also better than I expected and worked well with the sandwich. The staff were friendly and easygoing, and even though it was fairly busy, the wait wasn't long. Overall, it's just a nice, low-key place for a casual bite. Nothing overly fancy, but definitely somewhere I'd go back to when I'm in the mood for a good sandwich and a relaxed atmosphere.

This is one of the breakfast places in Downtown San Jose that you do NOT want to miss!…read more I stumbled upon this place after the Yelp app recommended me to try -- so you know I had to give it a try. Upon entering, I loved how spacious the place was, especially with the variety of foods they had: egg sandwiches, matcha lattes, coffee, and lots more. I was fortunate enough to try their egg drop in a jar alongside bacon and cheese, and their matcha latte. Both were very delicious and had a very natural taste to them :) They had self-order kiosks but at the same time, their hospitality and customer service was on par. They were very accommodating with regards to dietary restrictions (especially when it came to the milk selections for lattes, matcha was no different). I will definitely be coming back to this place to try more! (Hint hint: I may also try their other location as well -- that to.be saved for another time)

It was the perfect spot to enjoy the fresh air and made for a really relaxing atmosphere. The restaurant has a great vibe overall, especially if you're looking for an outdoor brunch. (Have not been inside) I ordered the steak chilaquiles, and I'd give them a 8.5/10. The flavors were really good, the sauce was delicious, and I liked the addition of the eggs, avocado, and queso. My only complaint was the steak. I ordered it medium rare, but it came out medium well, a bit dry and was tougher than expected, making it difficult to cut. It was still tasty--just not cooked quite the way I was hoping. The mimosas were good too, a great value. Nothing that really stood out as amazing, but definitely nothing bad about them either--they got the job done. What really elevated the experience was the service. Our server Rebecca was attentive, knowledgeable, kind, and incredibly quick throughout the meal. They checked in at the right times, answered our questions confidently, and made us feel well taken care of without ever being overbearing. Overall, I'd come back, especially to sit on the patio again. With a more tender steak, this meal would've easily been an 8.5 or 9 out of 10!! :)
