We like this place very much and go here regularly. Our visit Sunday was not up to par. The place was fairly empty; the bar area busier. Ordered cocktails and waited... Server came to take food out order and we asked about our drinks; be here in two minutes. Our food order was in front of us before our drinks ever arrived. Lesson learned, don't let them pressure you into ordering food until drinks in hand or they add bar staff. Burgers were awesome as always, as are the fries. Another pet peeve: one diner is finished with their meal and they come to clear dishes while the other person is still eating. This was not necessary; there was no wait and the place was at least half empty. Haven't experienced this at Tavery before and hope this was a one time off afternoon. I thought the mahi mahi tacos were good and the reaction to other dishes ranged from good to ok. Calimari was just ok- not crispy. Service was fine. Pricing was fair and even a bargain, $13, for a good glass of Pinot. We skipped dessert. The hostess was sweet. Came here for happy hour, but we actually ended up paying full price. It's fine though. The food was good. The pretzel bites were a little bit stale so I wouldn't get those again. The flatbread was pretty good but a little bit soggy. The wings were delicious and the calamari were delicious. We decided to try something different close to home and checked out The Tav'ery in Bronxville. To our surprise, the road was closed off for a live music event sponsored by the Bronxville Chamber of Commerce. The band, a group of young guys, played a mix of low-key rock. The generous outdoor seating was a pleasant surprise, with tables set up on the sidewalk for two or four people. Because the street was barricaded, larger tables with tablecloths were arranged in the street, seating six to eight people--ideal for groups. Initially, I was hesitant about ordering a martini because the drinks are served in plastic cups when dining outdoors. A dry martini straight up in a plastic cup didn't quite appeal to me. But on the bright side, I decided to try one of their cocktails--the Coco margarita. It was strong, tasty, and even had a piece of coconut in it. I enjoyed it so much that I ended up having two! There were a few appetizers that caught our eye. On the waitress's recommendation, we went with the coconut shrimp, and it did not disappoint. The shrimp were fried to perfection with just the right amount of coconut flakes and batter. I loved how the batter stayed put when you bit into the shrimp. The sake soy sauce dip was next level--it was so good that I saved it to use with my fish & chips after we finished the shrimp. My entree was the fish and chips. The batter was lighter and much airer than the shrimp . Both batters equally good. The fish batter had a yellowish tint--perhaps from a touch of curry powder, though it wasn't noticeable in the taste. The fish was cooked perfectly, moist on the inside. I wasn't a big fan of the the chips. They are called sidewinder's. I prefer a more classic "chip", but that's just personal preference. The dish also came with a small side of coleslaw and tartar sauce. The menu described the coleslaw as "zesty," but it wasn't tangy, which I didn't mind. The tartar sauce, however, had a real zing to it, which I didn't care for. I ended up dipping my fish in the flavorful soy sake sauce instead. My husband ordered the skirt steak with vegetables, and it was a hit. The steak was nicely marinated and tender, while the vegetables, including small sliced baby potatoes, were cooked to perfection. He thoroughly enjoyed his meal. Overall, we really enjoyed our time here. The staff was very friendly, and the restaurant itself is quite charming. However, when we return, I think I'd prefer to dine inside so I can enjoy real dinnerware and proper stemware for my cocktails. While the casual setup is understandable for outdoor dining, (plastic cutlery, paper-like plates and bowls, plastic cups) I prefer a more traditional experience (glass stemware, real plates and cutlery) when I'm paying for a higher-end meal. read more

Today I had the pleasure of having lunch here with my God Daughter after a busy day running errands. I had to try the Pat LaFrieda Burger as recommended by the magazine "Westchester." That burger did not disappoint. My Goddaughter had their cod, which, although was lite and delicious, but after she had a bite of my burger, she had to eat the rest. Five Stars Isn't Enough! The Tav'ery is an absolute gem! I went yesterday and I still can't get over the food and service. I grabbed a table outside on a perfect day, and the atmosphere couldn't have been better--relaxed, vibrant, and ideal for enjoying great food. The calamari? Off the chains. Perfectly crispy, seasoned just right, and easily some of the best I've ever had. The sauce with it was incredible! And there's a reason why the Pat LaFrieda Original Beef Burger was voted Best Burger in Westchester--because it absolutely deserves it. Juicy, flavorful, cooked to perfection... it's the kind of burger you think about days later. I also tried the Chicken Francese--not bad at all, solid dish, but the burger definitely stole the show. Also I judged the fries on the look early but they proved me wrong. The fries were actually incredibly. This is the first time in my life going out to eat and being this shocked of how good everything went where I needed to leave a review to explain it. You need to get the calamari & Pat LaFrieda Original Beef Burger! Shoutout to Emma, our server--she was incredible! I had the unfortunate pleasure of going there for lunch last Friday. The restaurant was not busy, but it took the waiter over 10 minutes to come to my table. I ordered the French onion soup and the Chicken Francese. The onion soup came quickly and one taste you knew that it was microwaved. The soup was so hot it burnt my tongue while the cheese was not hot. After the second taste, i realized the the soup was spoiled. Had a horrible sour after taste. The the chicken came to my table. While the Francese sauce was good the chicken was so hard and tasted old. This was the worst meal I ever had in all of Bronxville! Owner not customer focused. Came for a quick beer before catching train in quaint Bronxville. 14 of the 16 outdoor seats were empty but the owner would not let me sit there as the tables were only for dinner orders. I offered to leave if there were any arriving tables when I was there and she reluctantly said I could sit for a few minutes but that I would be moved promptly at 5:30 pm! I guess she showed me!
